Episode 51 of the conversations between Dr. Yogita Pant and Dr. Anil Chawla discusses the birth of the idea of King Yuddhishthir doing a Raajsooy Yagy and becoming emperor (samraat). Maharshi Naarad conveyed to Dharmraaj Yuddhishthir the message from Maharaaj Paandu asking him to do a Raajsooy Yagy. Yuddhishthir liked the idea but did not want to rush through such a major task. He first concentrated on building his reputation through implementing the preachings of Naarad regarding a king’s dharm. Subsequently, he discussed the proposal with his brothers, his ministers and his well-wishers. All of them supported the idea. But, Yuddhishthir was not satisfied. He thought that Vaasudev Krishn would be the best person to advise in this regard. So, he sent a special emissary to Dwarka requesting Krishn to come to Indraprasth for discussions. Krishn came to Indraprasth with the emissary. (Mahabharat/Sabhaaparv/ Lokpaalsabhaakhyaan Parv and Raajsooyaarambh Parv/Chapter 5-13).

Episode 50 of the conversations between Dr. Yogita Pant and Dr. Anil Chawla discusses the second part of the preachings by Maharshi Naarad to Dharmraaj Yuddhishthir. The first part was in episode 49. This part begins with Maharshi speaking about agriculture, irrigation and welfare of farmers. He also talks about taxation and the way a king should punish for wrongs done by offenders. Maharshi asks Yuddhishthir about corruption by his employees. Lastly, Maharshi Naarad speaks about the fourteen faults of kings. It is interesting to note that Ram had mentioned exactly the same fourteen faults of a king when Bharat had met Ram in the forest. Episode 41 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla discusses the events that led to Arjun leaving Indraprasth for twelve years. Some looters looted cows of a Brahmin. The Brahmin came to the palace of Paandavs and cried for help. All the weapons of Paandavs were kept at a place where Yuddhishthir was spending time alone with Draupadee. Violating their privacy was punishable. However, Arjun decided to walk in to pick up his bow and arrows. Arjun was able to overpower the looters and get the Brahmin’s cows back. As per the agreed rule, Arjun decided to depart from Indraprasth and go to forest for twelve years. His first stop was Gangadwar or Haridwar. At Haridwar while bathing in Gangaa, he was kidnapped by Uloopee, daughter of Naag king. The two married for a night and parted thereafter. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Arjunvanvaas Parv/Chapters 212-213).

Episode 62 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with the team of vaanars led by Angad feeling happy after Sampaati tells them about location of Sita in Lanka across the ocean. As they look at the ocean, the problem of crossing the ocean seems unsurmountable. The team is depressed. Angad tries to get the enthusiasm back. Angad asks each team member to say his capacity in terms of jumping across large distance. It is clear that the distance of one hundred yojan is too much for them. Jambwaan, the senior-most member of the team decides to motivate Hanuman. Jambwaan tells Hanuman the story of Hanuman’s birth and also the story of how as a child Hanuman had tried to catch the sun. Jambwaan also tells Hanuman of the various boons that Hanuman is blessed with. On hearing Jambwaan, Hanuman is filled with enthusiasm and starts preparing to cross the ocean. This marks the end of Kishkindha Kand. (Ref. Episode 61 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with Hanuman getting concerned about Angad’s decision to settle in Swayamprabha’s cave and not return to Kishkindha. Hanuman first convinces other members of the team to not go with Angad. Hanuman then speaks to Angad trying to tell him about the dangers of his scheme. Angad is not convinced with Hanuman’s arguments. Angad directs all team members to return while he fasts to death. All team members decide to join Angad in the fast to death. Gidhraaj Sampaati, elder brother of Jataayu sees the fasting team and is looking forward to get food as the team members die with hunger. But, Sampaati overhears the team members talk about Jataayu. Sampaati begs the team of vaanars to tell him about his younger brother. Sampaati hears about Ram and Lakshman as well as about the kidnapping of Seeta. Sampaati tells his own story and guides the team about Seeta being in the palace of Raavan in Lanka located at one hundred yojan across the sea. (Ref. Episode 60 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes some of the difficulties faced by the team led by Prince Angad. The three teams that had gone to north, east and west had returned as per the targeted time of one month without finding Seeta. The team that went to south faced a number of problems. They encountered thick forests, caves and even a daanav. They came across a dead forest where there were no birds or animals since the forest had nothing to eat and no water to drink. The team continued their search even though they were extremely hungry and thirsty. During their search they came across a cave which was hidden and seemed very dark. They decided to enter the dark cave in the hope of finding food and water. After walking through total darkness for miles, they came across beautiful divine scenery with golden trees, clear water and lots of gold and precious stones. A woman named Swayamprabha was guarding the place. She offered food and water to the team of Vanars. Later she helped them get out of the cave. Tara sees her life without Vaalee as meaningless and wants to do a fast unto death. Other wives of Vaalee and Prince Angad, son of Vaalee and Tara are also crying as Vaalee breathes his last. Seeing the tears all around, Sugreev is shaken. Sugreev’s happiness of victory disappears and instead deep sadness overcomes him. Episode 55 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the dialogue between Ram and Vaalee. After falling down on the ground, hit by Ram’s arrow, Vaalee confronts Ram, abuses him and scolds him for committing an act against dharm. Vaalee is respectful towards Ram but is extremely harsh in his criticism of Ram who listens patiently. When his turn comes, Ram answers Vaalee in an extremely logical and systematic manner. Ram first questions Vaalee’s competence to raise issues of dharm. Ram then explains his own competence and jurisdiction for punishing wrongdoers. Ram explains the crime that Vaalee had committed – having sexual relations with younger brother’s wife even when the brother is alive. Ram also explains that the crime is unpardonable and must be punished with death. A person who commits this crime is like an animal and must be killed like an animal is hunted down. There can be no notice of war to a hunted animal. When hunting the means and technique used to kill is immaterial. Hence, Ram killed Vaalee without any notice, while hiding behind a tree. Vaalee is convinced of his own crime and seeks apologies from Ram for his harsh words expressed earlier. Vaalee also seeks Ram’s blessings for his wife Tara, their son Angad and his younger brother Sugreev. Ram assures Vaalee of taking care of Tara, Angad and Sugreev. (Ref. Vaalee gets furious and is ready for fight again. Vaalee’s wife Tara makes an attempt to stop Vaalee from accepting Sugreev’s challenge. Episode 53 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with Sugreev having concerns about Ram’s capabilities to kill Vaalee. Sugreev tells Ram about Vaalee’s strengths and capabilities. Sugreev also narrates an incidence that highlights Vaalee’s high level of strengths. The incidence involves Vaalee killing Dudumbhi, a demon who used to have the form of a giant he-buffalo. Vaalee had defeated Dudumbhi in an open fight with his bare hands. Episode 40 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla discusses the events that took place after Paandavs along with Vaasudev Krishn reached Khaandavprasth, a thick forest. Krishn thought of Indr who understood the reason for Krishn’s thoughts. Indr instructed Vishwakarmaa to build a beautiful city at Khaandavprasth. A rich city with all amenities was built and was named as Indrprasth. After the city was built, Krishn departed telling the Paandavs that Devarshi Naarad would be visiting them soon. Devarshi visited them and told them the story of two powerful brothers Sund and Upsund who had been blessed by Brahmaa that they would not be killed by anyone except by each other. Sund and Upsund fell for a beautiful apsara Tilottamaa and killed each other. Naarad advised the Paandavs to make rules regarding living with their shared wife. Paandavs obeyed the Devarshi and made a strict rule. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Viduraagman-Raajyalambh Parv/Chapters 206-211).

Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. Episode 52 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the reason for animosity between Sugreev and Vaalee. Sugreev narrates to Ram the incident that made the brothers enemies. Vaalee was the elder of the two. After the death of their father, Vaalee was crowned as the king and Sugreev took to serving the king with devotion. One night, Mayavee, a demon came to Kishkindha and challenged Vaalee for a fight. Both, Vaalee and Sugreev, came out to fight the demon. Seeing the two brothers standing in unity, the demon got scared and ran for his life. Vaalee decided to chase him and kill him. In the forest, the demon entered a big cave. Vaalee instructed Sugreev to wait at the entrance to the cave while he went in. Sugreev dutifully waited for over an year. One day, Sugreev saw a huge stream of blood come out from the cave with big noise of fighting inside the cave. Sugreev thought that his elder brother had been killed. He returned to the capital where he was crowned as the king. In fact, instead of Vaalee being killed, Vaalee had killed the demon and also killed all his family members. Vaalee returned to find his brother Sugreev sitting on the throne. Vaalee was furious. He insulted Sugreev, threw him out of the kingdom and even took over his wife. (Ref. Episode 49 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla marks the start of Kishkindha Kand of Valmiki Ramayan. Brothers, Ram and Lakshman, reach the lovely and beautiful banks of lake Pampa. Beauty of the lake is mesmerizing. In the magical environment of the forest and the lake, Ram is reminded of Sita. He is stuck with grief and tells his brother Lakshman of his mental state. Ram seems to have lost his will to move any further immersed in the sorrow. Lakshman uses some strong words and pulls Ram out of negativity and depression. Lakshman pushes Ram to maintain his level of enthusiasm. Lakshman calls enthusiasm as the greatest force that can win over all hurdles. As they move close to Rishymook mountain on the other side of Lake Pampa, the brothers are noticed by Sugreev and his ministers. Sugreev is scared. Sugreev thinks that the brothers have been sent there by his brother Vaalee to kill him. To discuss the situation, Sugreev calls for a meeting of his ministers and associates. In the meeting, Hanuman pleads for a rational and reasoned examination of the situation without jumping to conclusions about the two brothers. Sugreev orders Hanuman to go and meet the two brothers to find out the reality about the two brothers. (Ref. Episode 47 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the journey of Ram and Lakshman as they move after performing last rites of Jataayu. A big raakshasee name Ayomukhee sees Lakshman and decides to make him her husband. She gets hold of him and informs Lakshman of her decision. Lakshman does not like it and gets free of Ayomukhee by using his sword to cut off her ears, nose and breasts. As they move forward, they meet a huge raakshas or demon, named Kabandh, who does not have any head or legs. Kabandh has huge arms which he uses to grab Ram and Lakshman. Kabandh wants to eat up the two brothers. Initially, Lakshman is perplexed and sees the situation as without any hope. But Ram counsels him and Lakshman regains his confidence. The two cut off Kabandh’s arms. With the arms cut, Kabandh explains his background and his story. Kabandh requests Ram and Lakshman to burn his body so that he can gain his earlier divine form. After his body is cremated, Kabandh acquires the lost divine form and guides Ram about the way to get back Sita. Kabandh advises Ram to go and meet Sugreev. Kabandh also advises Ram to make friends with Sugreev. (Ref. He tells Sita about his power, his huge army and about his invincibility. He tells Sita to forget about Ram and accept him as his new husband. He tells Sita about his large number of wives all of whom will now be under her. Sita is not impressed. She refuses his proposal in no uncertain terms. She tells him that he is no comparison to Ram. She tells Raavan that Ram and Laxman will come soon to liberate her and they will kill him. Raavan is furious. He gives Sita time of twelve months. If Sita does not accept his proposal during this time his cooks will cut her up and serve her meat for breakfast. Raavan orders Sita to be taken to Ashok Vaatika. Episode 45 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the meeting of Ram with wounded Jataayu. As Ram and Lakshman continue their search for Sita they see a huge bird lying on the ground. Ram thinks that the bird was a rakshas who had killed Sita. Ram moves to kill the huge bird. Jataaayu speaks and identifies himself. Jataayu also tells the brothers about kidnapping of Sita by Raavan and his war with Raavan. Jaatayu is close to death and is breathing his last. Yet, Jataayu tells Ram about the direction in which Raavan had taken Sita. Jaatayu also tries to give hope to Ram by saying that Raavan has embraced his death by kidnapping Sita and that Ram will soon kill Raavan. Ram wants to hear more from Jataayu but the king of birds meets his end under the loving eyes of Ram. Death of Jataayu saddens Ram greatly. Ram completes all the last rites for Jataayu the same way as a son does for his father. (Ref. After killing Maareech, Ram realized that some conspiracy has been played out on him. He turned back to walk quickly to the ashram. On the way, Ram met Lakshman. Ram was not happy with seeing Lakshman. Ram told Lakshman that his moving away from Sita was wrong. The brothers reached the ashram and discovered that Sita was missing. Episode 43 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the valiant efforts made by Jataayu, king of birds to stop Raavan from kidnapping Sita. Initially, Jataayu tried to reason with Raavan explaining to him that he was committing a foolish act which will not bring him any fame but will destroy his family and kingdom. Sensing that Raavan is in no mood to listen, Jataayu challenges Raavan to a fight knowing very well that the battle will be an unequal one given Jataayu’s advanced age. Raavan starts by shooting large number of arrows on the king of birds. Jataayu has only his claws and beak against the sophisticated weapons of Raavan. Nevertheless, Jataayu fights bravely killing the donkeys drawing Raavan’s chariot. Jataayu also kills his saarthi (chariot driver) as well his assistants and destroys his chariot. Finding himself under pressure, Raavan decides to make an escape taking along with him kidnapped Sita. Jataayu once again stops him and challenges him to fight like a warrior and not run away like a coward. Jataayu gets on Raavan’s back pulling out his hair and flesh. Raavan keeps Sita aside and continues the fight. Now, Raavan pulls out his sword and cuts off Jataayu’s wings and feet. Jataayu falls to the ground. (Ref. After they were settled and had some rest, Dhrutraashtr called Yuddhishthir and his brothers. Dhrutraashtr told Yuddhishtir to take half the kingdom and leave for Khaandavprasth. Episode 42 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the kidnapping of Sita by Raavan. Initially, Raavan tries to seduce Sita by putting on the appearance of a learned Brahmin and praising the beauty of Sita. That does not work. As a matter of duty to a guest, Sita welcomes Raavan disguised as a Brahmin offering him a mat for sitting, water for washing up and some food. Raavan realizes that his attempt at seduction has failed. He introduces himself and proposes to Sita asking her to dump Ram and marry him. Sita is furious and tells Raavan that he is nothing compared to her husband, Ram. Heated exchange of words follows. At the end of it, Raavan lifts up Sita and puts her in his chariot. Sita is helpless and starts shouting for help. (Ref. Episode 41 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with Mareech becoming a beautiful golden deer and moving around the dwelling place of Ram, Sita and Lakshman. As soon as Sita sees the golden deer, Sita falls for the beautiful animal. She wants the deer, live or dead. Sita calls Ram and Lakshman to see the deer. Lakshman immediately recognizes the deer as Maareech. Lakshman says that there is no golden deer and this is an illusion. Sita ignores Lakshman and continues to pester Ram to get the golden deer. Ram examines the issue from the perspective of dharm, arth and kaam. Ram does not negate Lakshman. Ram says that if it is Maareech, it is Ram’s dharm to go and kill Maareech since the raakshas had killed many munis and rishis as well as kings in the past. Ram takes his bow and arrows and goes in pursuit of the golden deer. As Ram’s arrow hits Maareech (golden deer), Maareech shouts out in Ram’s voice – O Seete! O Lakshman! Lakshman knows that this is not the voice of Ram. But Sita thinks that Ram is in danger. She tells Lakshman to go and help Ram. Lakshman refuses initially, but unwillingly goes when Sita abuses and blames him in the most horrible manner. (Ref. Episode 40 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the discussions that took place between Raavan and Maareech when Raavan went to Maareech seeking help in kidnapping Sita. Maareech tries his best to convince Raavan to not do the foolhardy kidnapping. Maareech describes his own past experiences with Ram. Maareech tells Raavan in clear unambiguous word that Raavan is bringing great harm to his own life, his family’s life as well as to his kingdom by taking up the misadventure. Instead of listening to the good advice from Maareech, Raavan becomes abusive and tells Maareech that the advice was unsolicited and not needed. Raavan tells Maareech that he has no option but to help Raavan in the kidnapping. Raavan threatens to kill Maareech instantly if Maareech chose to disobey him. Episode 39 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the developments on Ravan’s side after Khar is defeated and killed by Ram. Akampan, a rakshas from Khar’s army escapes from the war and rushes to Ravan. Akampan informs Ravan of the death of Khar and Dooshan at the hands of Ram in a war where Ram faced an army of 14,000 ferocious soldiers. Ravan is furious. He wants to immediately proceed to the place where Ram and Lakshman are staying to kill them. Akampan advises him against it. Akampan tells Ravan about Sita, Ram’s wife. Akampan tells Ravan that Ram is deeply in love with Sita. Akampan suggests that Ravan kidnap Sita. Akampan feels that Ram will be half-dead after losing Sita and then Ravan will find it easy to kill Ram. Ravan likes the suggestion. Next morning, Ravan goes all alone to the region where Ram is living. Ravan meets Maareech and requests him for help with kidnapping of Sita. Maareech advises Ravan strongly against kidnapping Sita. Ravan is convinced and returns to Lanka. Shoorpnakha, Ravan’s sister, had seen the Ram-Khar war and had seen her two brothers killed in the war. Shoorpnakha also reaches Lanka and meets Ravan when he is sitting with his ministers. She first insults Ravan for incompetence and then informs Ravan about the death of Khar and Dooshan. Ravan is furious. Shoorpnakha now tells him about the divine beauty of Sita. She describes Sita as the world’s most beautiful woman and tells Ravan to kidnap Sita and make her his wife. Women are Ravan’s weakness. Hearing the description of Sita's beauty, Ravan decides once again to kidnap her. He goes once again to Maareech seeking help for his wicked plan. (Ref. Episode 38 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with Shoorpnkha going to her brother Khar and complaining about Ram and Lakshman cutting off her nose and ears. She wants revenge and wishes to drink fresh foaming blood of Ram, Sita and Lakshman. Khar is furious that someone dared to do inflict injuries on his sister. He dispatches fourteen ferocious rakshas along with Shoorpnkha. The fourteen deadly demons are ordered to kill Ram, Sita and Lakshman so that Shoorpnkha can drink their fresh blood. They reach the cottage of Ram. In a very brief battle, Ram kills all the fourteen demons. Shoorpnkha is shocked. She rushes back to Khar and informs him about the surprising turn of events. She cajoles Khar to fight Ram and Lakshman. Khar treats it as a matter of prestige for the Rakshas clan. He orders his brother and the chief of army, Dooshan, to get the army marching with a single objective of killing Ram, his brother and his wife. Fourteen thousand soldiers march ahead along with horses, chariots and elephants. Ram sends Lakshman along with Sita to a nearby cave and fights the entire army all alone. In a fierce battle that lasts less than a day, Ram kills the entire army along with the chiefs Khar and Dooshan. Death of Khar and Dooshan, Ravan’s brothers, pleases all the munis and rishis who come there to bless Ram. (Ref. Episode 37 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla marks the start of a new life in Panchvati, near river Godavari, by Ram, Lakshman and Sita. On the way to Panchvati they meet Jatayu who introduces himself as Maharaj Dashrath’s friend. Jatayu promises to keep guard and take care of Sita as and when the two brothers have to step out. Ram and Lakshman build a cottage at Panchvati and start living there peacefully. One day Shoorpnkha, Ravan’s sister, comes there. She falls instantly in love with Ram and proposes to him. Ram does not want to insult a woman and replies with humour. The light conversation takes a gory turn when Shoorpnkha attacks Sita with the intention of killing her and eating her up. Ram rises to save Sita. The murderous attack on Sita must be punished. Shoorpnkha cannot be killed due to her being a woman. Episode 36 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes in brief the journey of Ram, Sita and Lakshman through various ashrams in dense horrible forest. A conversation between Sita and Ram is the highlight of this episode. Sita is concerned about Ram’s safety. She tries to convince Ram to live a peaceful life and not take up fights while they are moving in the forests. Ram appreciates Sita’s concerns arising out of her love for him. However, Ram mentions about his duty to protect the munis and rishis. Ram also reiterates his promise to the men of learning about saving them from the danavs. Ram says that he can give up his life and even his wife and his dear brother, but cannot think of forgetting his promise or doing dereliction of duty. Ram, Sita and Lakshman spend ten years moving through different ashrams of rishis and munis in the dense forest. They reach the ashram of Rishi Agastya who is known for his killing of some of the most horrible danavs. Ram is contemplating spending rest of his period of forest stay in the ashram of Rishi Agastya but Rishi Agastya has other thoughts. Rishi blesses Ram and gives him some of the most powerful divine weapons. Rishi then advises Ram to move to Panchvati, near river Godavari, and live there. (Ref. Episode 35 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla marks the beginning of Aranya Kand where Ram, Laxman and Sita live in a horrible forest full of cannibals and blood-thirsty wild animals. At the outset, munis and rishis welcome Ram and explain to him that he is their king even while he is living in the forest and he must act to protect them. As they move forward, they encounter the giant demon named Viradh who is immensely big and carries a huge spear with more than ten animal heads on it. Viradh is blessed by Brahma that he cannot be killed by any weapon. Viradh takes a liking to Sita. Viradh lifts up Sita and tells Ram and Laxman to run away. Viradh announces his intention to marry Sita. Ram is disturbed and sad but soon regains his composure. The two brothers fight Viradh and bury him alive since he cannot be killed by any weapon. Before death Viradh remembers his past life and even guides Ram to the way to the ashram of Rishi Sharbhang. Ram visits Rishi Sharbhang who is waiting to depart from this world. Rishi Sharbhang guides Ram and blesses him before entering fire and embracing death. (Ref. Episode 34 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with a discussion about idol worship in Hindu religion. The conversation moves on with the return of Bharat to Ayodhya where he bids farewell to his mothers and moves to Nandigram where he is to stay for the next fourteen years as a forest-dweller. On the other hand, situation changes for Ram at Chitrakoot. The rishis at Chitrakoot decide to move out of Chitrakoot due to harassment from Khar, the younger brother of Raavan. Ram tries to stop the rishis, but fails to convince them. Ram decides to move out of Chitrakoot since the place now reminded him of meeting his brothers, mothers and other family members. Ram, Laxman and Sita go to the ashram of Rishi Atri where Rishi welcomed them with open arms. Rishi introduced his wife, Anusooya to them. Anusooya had a long talk with Sita, blessed her and gave to Sita clothes, ornaments etc. The next morning Ram, Sita and Laxman started their journey from the rishi’s ashram to the deep and dangerous forest. Episode 33 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with a discussion about key defining features of aastik thought. Anil Chawla also explains the meanings of the words Hindu and Bharat. The conversation continues with discussing the attempt of Bharat to convince Ram to return to Ayodhya. Bharat has tried all the arguments that he could think of. As a last resort, he even threatens to sit on a dharna or sit-in-protest before the small hut where Ram was staying. Ram convinces him that such sit-in-protests are not appropriate for him. Exasperated, Bharat asks the people present to help him convince Ram. But the people see merit in Ram’s arguments and tell Bharat that they are unable to help him. At this point, the Rishis intervene. They tell Bharat to let Ram follow the path that he has chosen. Bharat is still not ready to give up. Ram uses the power of affection and love to get Bharat to agree. Bharat gets a pair of gold-studded footwear and asks Ram to wear it for a moment and return the pair to him. Bharat says that this pair of footwear will be put on the throne of Ayodhya and will be the king of Ayodhya. Bharat says that he will live in a nearby forest like a forest-dweller and oversee the kingdom but not as a king. Bharat seeks Ram’s permission for this arrangement. Ram has no option but to accept Bharat’s request. (Ref. Episode 38 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla discusses the deliberations that took place in the royal court of Hastinapur when Dhrutraashtr called Bheeshm, Guru Dron and other ministers for consultations. Gangaaputr Bheeshm declared that he did not want any animosity with Paandavs. He advised that half of the kingdom be given to the Paandavs. Guru Dron agreed with Bheeshm’s advice and further advised that the Paandavs should be brought to Hastinapur with due respect. Karn, who wanted Kauravs to attack Paandavs, tried to criticize Bheeshm and Guru Dron. Karn received no support and was put in place by Guru Dron who scolded him. Vidur also supported Bheeshm and Dron. Vidur pressed on Dhrutraashtr to accept the advice received. Pressed like this, Dhrutraashtr accepted the advice of Bheeshm and Dron. He deputed Vidur to go to Paanchaal and get the Paandavs back with full courtesies and respect. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Viduraagman-Raajyalambh Parv/Chapters 202, 203, 204 and 205).

Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Mahabharat teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich.

Episode 32 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla starts with Bharat offering the kingdom of Ayodhya to Ram as a gift. Ram refuses to accept the gift. Bharat now pleads that the mistake of parents ought to be corrected by the son. Bharat argues that his mother Kaikeyee and their father Maharaj Dashrath had made a mistake which resulted in the present situation and it is the duty of Ram to correct the mistake now. Ram is not convinced. At this point the chief Brahmin of Ayodhya, Jabali tries to use arguments based on naastik (non-Hindu) thought to convince Ram to accept the coronation. Ram is furious with the naastik thought. Jabali withdraws saying that he is not a naastik but was trying the approach as a last resort to try to convince Ram. (Ref. Episode 27 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla relates to the journey of Bharat to Chitrakoot. On the way Bharat meets Rishi Bhardwaj who welcomes him with caution and expresses doubts about Bharat’s journey. Bharat is heartbroken by the doubts. Bharat assures the Rishi that he is only going to Ram to get Ram crowned as the king of Ayodhya. Rishi is pleased. Rishi extends hospitality to the army and others accompanying Bharat. Next day, Bharat continues his journey. When Bharat’s caravan approaches Chitrakoot, the commotion unsettles the wildlife and birds of Chitrakoot. Episode 26 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla begins with describing the precautionary steps taken by Sumantr and Guh. Ram had begun his new life in the forest with brother and wife. During their first night in the forest, Ram became emotional remembering Ayodhya and all that had happened. Ram advised Laxman to go back to Ayodhya and take care of their mothers. Laxman, however, refused. The next day, they started travelling and by the evening reached the ashram of Rishi Bhardwaj. Rishi invited them to stay at his ashram. Ram refused the invitation and sought guidance from the Rishi about a good place in the forest where they could live for the next few years. Rishi advised them to go to Chitrakoot. Next day, they started their journey again and reached Chitrakoot after spending one night in the forest. In the meantime, Bharat along with the army and all key people of Ayodhya was on the way to meet Ram. Bharat reached the banks of river Ganga. Nishadraj Guh, friend of Ram, suspected that Bharat is on the way to kill Ram. Guh ordered his army on full alert and went to meet Bharat to investigate Bharat’s motive. After meeting Bharat, Guh is convinced that Bharat has no ill intentions. (Ref. When moving out from Ayodhya, Ram is followed by large number of citizens. Ram tries to convince them to return. But they refuse to go back and are determined to accompany Ram into the forest. Ram, Sita and Laxman spend the night along with all those accompanying them on the bank of river Tamsa. Next day they leave early morning when all those who had followed them were asleep. They reach the banks of Ganga where they meet Guh who was the king of Nishad community. Guh helps them the next morning to cross the river. After crossing Ganga, they are now in the forest. Ram and Laxman now get ready for the life in forest. However, first they must arrange for food and eat since they had not eaten for two nights and two days. (Ref. Episode 37 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla discusses the thinking that was taking place at Hastinapur after Duryodhan and his team returned with empty hands from the swayamvar of Draupadee. Duryodhan had various ideas for finishing the five sons of Paandu. He suggested all of them to his father Dhrutraashtr asking his father to choose whatever seems workable. Duryodhan also asked his friend Karn for his views. Karn disagreed with the views of Durydhan and instead suggested direct attack on the Paandvs at the earliest before they become stronger with support from friends and relatives. Dhrutraashtr asked that the two discuss with Bheeshm, Vidur, Dron and other ministers. (Mahabharat/Aadiparv/Vaivaahik Parv/Chapters 199, 200 and 201).

Mahabharat and Valmiki Ramayan are the two fundamental foundation epics of Hinduism. Mahabharat teaches one about every aspect of life. The struggle in the epic is the clash between two different life-values. Dwaipaayan Krishn and Vaasudev Krishn put in relentless and continuous efforts to establish and strengthen the same fundamental values and ideals for which Ram fought the war against Raavan. By learning and understanding this story and by adopting the learnings into our behaviour we can make our life happy and rich.

Episode 21 of the conversations between Yogita Pant and Anil Chawla describes the events of the night when Maharaj Dashrath breathed his last. Kausalya is immersed in sorrow and is very harsh on him, blaming him for the departure of Ram, Laxman and Sita. Maharaj Dashrath begs her with folded hands to not hurt him anymore. Kausalya accepts her mistake and begs pardon. Maharaj is pleased and goes to sleep. He gets up in the middle of the night remembering his past mistake of killing a rishi who had come to the river to take water for his old parents. He also remembers the curse that had been cast upon him by the rishi’s old parents – of dying in pain suffering from separation of beloved son. The pain is unbearable for Maharaj.
