The Prevalence of Everyday Miracles25 Nov 202400:25:17

We wrapped up our Lift Up Your Heart events last weekend. It felt so uplifting to interact with women in our community. President Nelson asked us to "seek and expect miracles," and because we’ve been focusing on the miracles of peace, joy, courage, faith, and hope, they've become more prevalent in our every day. A goal here at Magnify is to build our community, so in this episode, you'll hear podcast host Courtney Spencer and producer Sarah Collins grab soundbites from both audience members and Lift Up Your Heart speakers share how they're seeking and expecting miracles.

Register for the Zoom book club where we'll be reading The Christ Child by Adam Miller. It will be hosted by contributor Melinda Brown.

Seeing Miracles and Purpose in the Right Now18 Nov 202400:35:02

It’s often easier in hindsight to see what God has orchestrated in our lives. President Eyring has even said, "When we find ways to recognize and remember God’s kindness it will build our testimonies.” In theory we know this works. And we do it in practice as many of us make gratitude lists this time of year. But how do we make it so that we’re seeing God’s great work in our lives like it’s second nature, be it a moment of hardship or joy?

It’s something that’s on our minds and the mind of today’s guest, Emily Ann Adams, who wrote that she’s working to see God’s imprints all over the pages of her life—even when she’s in the thick of it. It’s a practice that has led her to more genuine gratitude and greater faith. Emily is an author, speaker, and mother to five—one of whom she lost as a stillborn. This plays into her story and she’s shared many of her experiences and perspectives in her books. She’s a hiker, a reader, a bit of a history lover, and she says that she tries to strengthen her relationship with Jesus and her Heavenly Father daily.

Returning to the Childlike Wonder of Christmas11 Nov 202400:29:36

Magnify just announced our book club pick for November and December and it’s The Christ Child by Adam Miller. And this book will make your Christmas. If you're looking for that thing that will bring you that "Christmasy" feeling you love during this season, this is just the thing. This book takes us on a meditative and poetic journey to answer the question, “why did Christ come to earth as a baby?” It's all about how we can become more like the Savior by becoming more like a child—and those attributes that go along with it.

Podcast producer Sarah Collins is joined by BYU professor and philosopher Dr. Katie Paxman.

Join us for the book club Zoom where you can join in the dialogue with host Mindy Brown! December 5th at 7:00pm MT.

When Loved Ones Step Away from the Church: Finding True Hope and Peace04 Nov 202400:42:12

A topic that is on many of our minds is knowing what to do when a child or someone we love takes a different path that leads them away from the Church. We are hopeful that this episode will help alleviate some of the pain and anxiety that we feel when this happens. No matter your family circumstances, this is an important conversation in our efforts to be peacemakers.

Author, speaker, and Magnify contributor Melinda Brown appears as a guest on this episode with Michelle Torsak, Executive Director of Content for Deseret Book. Mindy has experienced her own child stepping away from the Church, and she opens up about her experience and advice. Mindy shares three truths she holds on to when dealing with these anxieties as well as provides practical applications for when we find ourselves in these circumstances. She shares this comforting line, "we are all wanderers."

How Listening Leads to Making a Difference28 Oct 202400:28:36

Part of our mission at Magnify is to help each other be a force for good in our own spheres of influence. Sometimes that happens in ways we least expect it to. Celeste Mergens, the founder of Days for Girls, grew up in poverty. It was her understanding of what children going hungry felt like that led her first to her knees, and then to fill a need. She believes that the things you go through don't define you, but they can always bless you. Her superpower? Gratitude, and that's how she has learned to ask the right questions, listen when others are speaking, and lead with assuredness.

Celeste is the founder of Days for Girls—a non-profit whose mission is to increase access to menstrual care and education throughout the world. She’s a speaker, who has been featured in magazines like Oprah’s O Magazine and Forbes, an author, and an award-winning businesswoman. Celeste is also a wife and a mother to 6 children and 19 grandchildren, and she loves spending time with her family. She’s currently serving with her husband as a mission leader in the Washington Everett mission.

Bonus Episode: Rock of Our Redeemer Book Club25 Oct 202400:40:05

Did you know we have a bookclub? This month’s pick was Rock of Our Redeemer by Elder David A. Bednar. Our community also does a public Zoom where you—yes you!—can join in and participate. This month it was hosted by Tammy Uzelac Hall. We decided to post the recording as a bonus episode where you can hear the host and members of our community jump in and share their thoughts on the book.

What Surviving a 30-Foot Fall Taught Me About Miracles21 Oct 202400:30:14

Whitney Archibald has been rock climbing for more than 30 years. She felt experienced and always followed safety precautions. But in the summer of 2023, she had an accident that changed her entire life. Through a series of small, seemingly insignificant mistakes, Whitney fell 30 feet to the ground. Miraculously, Whitney survived and was not paralyzed. This experience doesn’t seem like the most obvious time to see miracles, but that’s just what happened. Even through our most difficult and painful moments, and our most damaging mistakes, we can witness the miracles happening all around us if we open our hearts and let God prevail.

In this episode, Whitney Archibald shares her experience and how she learned about the not-so-obvious miracles through a painful experience. Whitney is a mom of five, loves being outdoors, and she also hosts and produces two podcasts. One for BYU called the Y Magazine Podcast. Her own is called How She Moms.

Join us for our final two Lift Up Your Heart events. We will be in St. George on November 9th and Salt Lake City on November 22nd and 23rd. As a podcast listener, you can use code PODCAST10 at checkout to save $10 per registration.

How to Navigate Polarizing Situations in a Christlike Way14 Oct 202400:29:27

In our lives, there are many scenarios we run into that feel polarizing or tricky to navigate. You might have someone in your ward that you feel strongly about because you disagree with their political viewpoints in the upcoming election, even though they hold a trusted calling. Or with General Conference just last week, perhaps you’re running into conversations at the dinner table that get heated because of how some messages are being interpreted. Or as you’re heading into the holiday season, you’re gearing up for a snarky comment to be made at the extended family party about your parenting styles.  However, at Magnify, we strive to be a force for good, and a powerful way to do that is by being peacemakers, especially in these polarizing situations.

So, with this on our minds, we thought it would be timely to have a candid conversation about how to navigate polarizing situations in a more Christlike way. Brooke Walker is joined by Shima Baughman and Natalie Hill Jensen in this episode.

Focusing on the Joy from General Conference Weekend07 Oct 202400:33:43

We’re just coming off a spiritual high from General Conference weekend. And sometimes, despite our best efforts, this weekend isn’t always the relaxing, sit-in-front-of-the-tv and let-the-rays-from-heaven-pour-upon-you kind of weekend. There’s fitting in Saturday’s errands and activities, getting family members together, learning to bake rolls as good as Grandma's once were, and trying to take notes and ponder on all the words of wisdom you receive. In short, it's sometimes exhausting! But here at Magnify, we’re focusing on the joyful messages we heard and reflecting on the glimmers that came through.

Podcast producer is joined by Magnify contributors and community members Kaylen Nelson and Kathryn Davis.

Making the Temple a More Intentional and Healing Experience30 Sep 202400:34:35

We’re diving in deep into a topic about how the temple is a place for healing. When we learn about and serve in the temple, many of us may assume that most people are serving in the temple for these three reasons: to feel peace, to serve, and to get answers. But have you ever thought about the temple as a hospital where people come to be healed? So when we were presented with this idea from today’s guest, we were immediately intrigued. Today we’re discussing how to make the temple a more intentional, meaningful, healing experience in your life.

Brooke Walker is joined by Dr. Wendy Ulrich. Wendy is a psychologist, professor, and author. Her book, The Temple Experience: Passage to Healing and Holiness, provides part of the basis of today's conversation.

Don't forget to register for Lift Up Your Heart! We will be in Idaho Falls on October 12th, St. George on November 9th, and Salt Lake City on November 22nd and 23rd. What It Really Means to Build Upon the Rock of Our Redeemer23 Sep 202400:35:09

We launched our latest book club last week and we are inviting you to be a part of it! We’re reading The Rock of our Redeemer by Elder David A. Bednar. For this episode, podcast producer Sarah Collins is joined by Mindy Brown and Maria Eckersley. They are doing a little kick-off for the month to get you excited about the themes of the book! Then, next month, you can join in a Zoom meeting to discuss the talking points of the book with like-minded women in our community. That will be on October 24 and hosted by Tammy Uzelac Hall. You can head to our website for more in formation. Today, our main hope is for you to feel the power of what we learned from this book: how to build stronger connections with Christ and what it really means to build upon Him as our rock.

Learning to Take Hold of God's Promised Eternal Joy16 Sep 202400:33:03

In April 2024 General Conference, Elder Uchtdorf said something poignant, "Life is not an endless sequence of emotional highs." However, he went on to say that joy can be found every day. There are joys that God has given all around us that we can enjoy temporally. He wants that for us! But there is also a higher joy that can only come through living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This joy is an eternal joy! In today's episode, Kathryn Davis and Kalo Latu discuss tapping into that higher, eternal joy.

How Prophetic Revelation Intersects with Personal Decision Making with Camille Fronk Olson09 Sep 202400:39:33

This episode is one of deeper learning and understanding of a gospel topic you may have wrestled with before. In this episode, Deseret Book President Laurel Day is joined by Camille Fronk Olson, author, teacher, and scriptorian, as they discuss the question, "how do I know if messages from the prophet are revelation for the church or just good wisdom?" They discuss scriptural occurrences, modern examples, and the tension of knowing what is revelation from God and what is counsel and if that difference matters.

Camille has been a pioneer for women in the Church Education System— having spent her entire career teaching scripture, most recently as a professor and department chair for the Department of Ancient Scripture at BYU. Even though she’s retired from teaching professionally, Camille is a popular speaker in various forums on Latter-day Saint beliefs, especially as they relate to women. She has written multiple books on the role of women in the scriptures and served as a member of the Young Women General Board and as a professor at the BYU Jerusalem Center. She loves traveling with her husband Paul, reading, and working in the yard, and perhaps most relatable: Camille loves a platter of nachos.

You Are on the Brink of Something Wonderful! How to “Count It All for Joy” with Tammy Uzelac Hall02 Sep 202400:29:57

This conversation is so special because it’s a reminder that the things that you’re going through that often feel so heavy might just mean you’re on the brink of something wonderful! That good things are around the corner. It’s a message to not give up. And we’re confident about this promise because of a scripture in James 1:2 to “count it all for joy.”

In this episode, a new host to the pod, Courtney Spencer, joins fellow podcaster Tammy Uzelac Hall. Tammy is the host of Deseret Bookshelf+’s Sunday on Monday podcast where she leads a Come, Follow Me study. She is a mom, a wife, a teacher, and a lover of cheese.

Embracing God's Unexpected Plans for You with Emily Snyder19 Aug 202400:34:06

We all want to make good things happen in our life, our hearts are full of the question, “are we on the right track?” And perhaps in pursuit of this righteous desire, we might be trying too hard. There’s a saying “Let go and let God...” Is that something we could do more of?

Emily Snyder shares the story of getting engaged at 46-years-old. She gets vulnerable about how hard it is to embrace the unexpected, but that taking the leap has led her to a stronger connection with God. Emily's resume is a long list of amazing accomplishments: she was a sixth grade teacher, worked alongside Chip and Joanna at Magnolia (fangirling here!), has served on the Young Women's Advisory Board, and is currently a senior product manager at the Church. Brooke Walker hosts this amazing episode.

Being Prompted and Guided—Not Overwhelmed—with President Nelson's 99+1 Invitation29 Jul 202400:34:43

Last month, President Nelson extended an invitation as he reflected his approaching 100th birthday. He shared about the significance of the number 100, and how it was used in the scriptures by the Savior in the parable of the lost sheep. “Though 99 of his flock were safely by his side, the shepherd went in search of the one who was lost.” The invitation then, is to go after the one.

To do that, President Nelson invited us to think about these three questions over the coming months: who do you know that may be discouraged? Who might you need to reconcile with or ask for forgiveness? Has one name been on your mind lately that you haven’t known quite why? In this episode, podcast producer Sarah is joined by Maria Eckersley, Jordan Murray, and Aleisha McDaniel as they chat about how they've been responding to the invitation.

What It Takes to Be an Everyday Humanitarian with Sharon Eubank22 Jul 202400:38:53

We are inundated with so much content everyday--both good and bad--and sometimes it’s hard for something to breakthrough the noise. This conversation with Laurel Day, President of Deseret Book Company, and Sharon Eubank is one of those that we hope breaks through for you. Sharon redefined big concepts in this conversation like: what it means to be a humanitarian, what a miracle really is, and the power and purpose of our covenants.

Many of us first became aware of Sharon when she served as a former counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sharon has an incredible view of the world through the work she gets to do in the humanitarian efforts for the Church and she is also a former business owner.

Taking Hold of the Stillness Already in Your Life with Carrie Skarda15 Jul 202400:36:05

Sometimes it feels like you’re running so hard that it’s impossible to make time for spirituality. This buzzword of mindfulness that we hear about seems impossible. But in today’s discussion, Brooke Walker sits down with author Carrie Skarda who helps us understand that we can transform my relationship with God through stillness without adding anymore to the spiritual to-do list.

Carrie is the co-author of The Power of Stillness and she and author Jacob Hess have a workbook coming that puts stillness practices into action. She is an avid reader, a Diet Dr Pepper addict, and a bit of a yogi.

Joining in this episode is contributor Shima Baughman. Shima shares a fun anecdote about her 5-year-old daughter having a crush and how she is in relentless pursuit of that crush. She gets real about how in her darkest times, she can feel God's love and that it will never leave her.

It's Always Worth the Effort: A Magnify Favorite24 Jun 202400:23:39

This month on Magnify, our team has put our heads together to share different episodes from our past nearly 100 episodes to bring you some of our favorite moments. This week, we are featuring some thoughts from Kalo Latu's episode, "No Entry Level Requirements." Kalo stated that we often get in our own way of creating a relationship with the Savior because we think there is an entry level to starting that relationship. But this reminder that we can all do it, no matter where we are on the path, was a great one to reflect on.

Paige Sommer, the Magnify Community content specialist, shares how miracles are all around us, that we can find joy in the tough moments, and includes some of Kalo's wisdom from her first episode.

Reflecting on the Strength of Meekness: a Magnify Favorite17 Jun 202400:18:41

As we continue to share some of the Magnify team’s favorites this month, this week's will help remind us about what it truly means to be meek. We did a series on peacemakers last year, where we picked the many attributes of a peacemaker, including meekness. And some thoughts might come to your mind like church mouse, or pushover, but on this episode, Shima Baughman explained that meekness is strength! In fact, that was the title of this episode.

Social media designer Anna Owens shares her thoughts on Shima’s episode and how she is working to be more meek by being receptive and teachable.

Deeper Learning: The Sacred Privilege of the Temple Garment with Melinda Brown28 May 202400:57:25

We’ve all noticed an increasing emphasis on covenants and temples! In April general conference the word “covenants” was used 194 times! There were 15 new temples announced, bringing the worldwide count to 350. And the First Presidency updated the temple recommend interview questions and issued a new statement on wearing the temple garment. It feels momentous!

But there hasn’t always been a lot of dialogue around this subject. In this episode, Michelle Torsak, Director of Content for Deseret Book, and podcast producer Sarah Collins have asked Melinda Brown, author and teacher, to join with her expertise. Mindy believes that when we understand the significance and purpose of covenants and the temple garment—the WHY—it makes honoring them a joy. And it gives us language to talk about it with others—especially our children. This conversation promises to expand your view of the temple! It’s a good one!

Peace, Hope, and Comfort are Miracles of Prayer with Kaylen Nelson07 May 202400:28:22

This year we felt the Spirit when a special message was given to us from newly set apart acting president of the Quorum of the Twelve, President Holland. He reminded us that, “God hears every prayer we offer and responds to each of them according to the path He has outlined for our perfection.”

Sometimes we might forget this or feel distance from this promise, but in this episode, Kaylen Nelson shares a takeaway that she heard from President Holland: our prayers never go to the “heavenly answering machine” and are always picked up and answered.

The Choice to Be Humble with Andrea Cabrera02 Apr 202400:29:51

If we’re honest, it’s all too easy to forget to rely on God and His good grace. But this is exactly what we need to do if we are humble followers of Jesus Christ. In a his October 2023 General Conference address, Elder Joni L. Koch said humility is a “vital catalyst for spiritual growth” and a “mandatory requirement for us to be ready to return to the presence of God.” Today we’re exploring what humility looks like for women who strive to come unto Christ.

Joining Kathryn in this episode is Andrea Cabrera. Andrea works in marketing and has a background in broadcast journalism. She has her own podcast, and the Magnify team asked her to go out and bring back three examples of humility from her circles. This episode features the voices of three of those women.

Mary Magdalene: An Example of Modern Discipleship with Janiece Johnson26 Mar 202400:25:11

At Magnify, our mission during this special week before Easter is to help us all feel a little holier by focusing on strengthening our relationship with Jesus Christ. As women, we can be powerful forces for good in witnessing the Savior in our every day lives. We can look to the example of the first witness who was a woman, Mary Magdalene.

Today's guest is Janiece Johnson. She is a research professor of religion and a production manager at Deseret Book. She has studied out the life of Mary Magdalene. Janiece wrote, "Understanding [Mary's] name begins to helps us see her power and her central role. She is a tower of strength--the Tower-ess or the Magnified one. Women [of the time] were not just on the margins, but central to the gospel and the ministry of Jesus. [Mary] becomes the first witness of the risen Lord and an example of power and strength to all of us who want to be disciples.”

Jesus Makes Our Family Tree Whole with Shima Baughman12 Mar 2024

There are some things in life that you have to often take a step back to see a bigger and better view. A tree can have some broken branches or missing leaves, but when it’s looked at as a whole, it’s always a beautiful image. The Savior can do the same thing with our lives, and when we rely on Him, our branches can be healed.

Kathryn is joined by Shima Baughman. Shima is a BYU law professor, an author, and her background growing up in Iran plus her experience around the world can help us lean into today’s message that the Savior’s sealing power can not only help us be with family forever, but find peace.

Placing Christ at the Center of our Lives with Cristi Brazao05 Mar 202400:24:06

It's common for women to want to be full of light and, like Elder Quentin L. Cook said, “striving to be full of good cheer.” When we are around people like that, it’s contagious and infectious. We wonder what that looks like and how to maintain it, so let’s chat about it!

This episode features contributor Cristi Brazao. Cristi is an assistant professor at Daytona College in Florida where she teaches writing and research, English composition, and African American literature. She used to sing in the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and her experience praising the Lord through song along with her convert backstory plays a role in our conversation today.

Let's Label Up! with Eme Martin27 Feb 202400:27:45

The last time you had to introduce yourself, what labels did you use? Did you talk about who you are, what you do, or what you love? All of these labels can be fun, and President Nelson even said that it can be a great way to describe ourselves, but they can also be divisive and restrictive. Today we are going to talk about the most important labels and how we can "label up"!

Eme Martin joins Kathryn on today’s episode. Eme says she prefers hugs to handshakes, sweet over salt, and travel by sea! One of Eme’s super powers is that she is great at making connections and friendships, and her experience will be perfect for this conversation!

Trusting in All of God's Promises with Maria Eckersley20 Feb 202400:29:41

We’ve heard it said to “expect the unexpected.” But we can feel at times like our expectations aren't always met. Elder Sabin shared a unique message in October 2023 General Conference. He said, “when nothing is expected and everything is appreciated, life becomes magical.” Doesn’t that ring true to you? This episode is all about about how we can find that magic in our lives through trusting God.

Joining in this discussion is Maria Eckersley, who is known for capitalizing on the happy moments in life. She is the ultimate “mom hacker”, mega party planner, and a devoted fun mom. She and Kathryn chat all things happiness in the gospel!

God's Love is Spacious with Melinda Brown06 Feb 202400:24:30

President Oaks shared in his most recent General Conference address that a distinct doctrine the restored gospel offers is in the definition of Heaven. The binary “heaven and hell” doesn’t resonate with us because we are taught that Heaven will be exactly what we want it to be! God wants us to be happy and to be in a place where we are comfortable. So let’s chat about this doctrine and the happy news that comes with it!

Kathryn is joined in this episode by contributor Melinda Brown. Mindy describes her perfect day as playing with her grandbabies, exploring along the beach, digging into a new book, and eating lots of scrumptious treats, definitely with frosting. She is getting her master’s degree at Duke Divinity school.

Did I See Jesus Today? with Hilary Craner30 Jan 202400:27:15

Sometimes we’re all guilty of overthinking it and making our own lives too hard. Maybe we even do it with our relationship with Jesus. In general conference, Elder Renlund shared words that helped to dial in our focus from his talk, “Jesus Christ is the Treasure.” This episode discusses seeing Jesus for who He is.

Hilary Craner joins Kathryn Davis as they discuss the question, “did you see Jesus today?” and how a story about bubbles helped Hilary reconsider her priorities. Hilary is a graphic designer who loves to sprinkle happiness into her designs. She loves to poke fun at herself over on her Instagram page with her obsession with 80/90’s nostalgia. Hilary says she’s all about the simple joys in life, which makes her a perfect fit to talk about simple ways to strengthen our focus on Jesus.

Finding Your Personal Why with Kaylen Nelson16 Jan 2024

It’s easy to fall into the belief that living the Gospel is a series of boxes to check.  A sort of list of behaviors and requirements meant to measure progress.  But the scorecard approach soon gets old and exhausting. General Young Women’s President Emily Belle Freeman challenged that perspective in her recent General Conference talk. And she shares her own personal "why" when it comes to gospel living.

Joining in this conversation with Kathryn is contributor Kaylen Nelson. Kaylen teaches religion at BYU and she considers herself a bit of a bookworm and she's a major "Swiftie". She just celebrated her first Christmas with her 1-year-old son. In this episode, Kaylen articulates her personal "why" and encourages listeners to do the same.

The Path of Happiness with Janelle Gardiner09 Jan 202400:19:55

Happiness: it’s something everyone wants. A host of different voices claim to know the secret to it. In October General Conference, Elder Choi asked the question, “Do You Want to be Happy?” and it seems like the answer is obvious! YES! But he goes on to share what our part is in finding and receiving truly lasting happiness.

On the Magnify podcast today is guest Janelle Gardiner. Janelle is a respiratory therapist, a professor and a world traveler. Janelle enjoys daily life with a large extended family–of 11 nephews and 6 nieces. She and Kathryn discuss the moments to hold on to when answering the question, "do you want to be happy?"

No Entry Level Requirements with Kalo Latu02 Jan 202400:31:03

Before we start making changes in our lives, we often feel like we have to be good enough, or that there is some kind of worthiness requirement. But we just have to take the first step! In the Oct. 2023 General Conference, Elder Costa said that, “Sometimes we may think, “I need to fix my life before I come to Jesus,” but the truth is that we come to Jesus to fix our lives through Him.”

Kathryn is joined today by Kalo Latu. Kalo has the best laugh and a true gift for “keeping it real”. Kalo teaches music at BYU and she’s a sports enthusiast and a foodie and I loved getting to know her personal story!

Actively Seeking Jesus in our Everyday Life with Andrea Cabrera12 Dec 202300:27:03

I think it’s safe to say — women have a tendency to look backwards over their own shoulders—in effect wondering if they are good enough, put together enough, prepared enough to meet the Savior if He came tomorrow.

This episode features Andrea Cabrera and Kathryn discussing Sister Amy Wright’s most recent address, “Abide the Day in Christ” from General Conference. Andrea is a bookworm, an electric unicycle hobbyest, and dreams to become the “Latina Oprah Winfrey.”

Divine Identity Creates Unity with Shima Baughman05 Dec 202300:27:45

We’d all like to open our arms wider to include others, understand each other and avoid the divisions we see in the world around us. So how do we look at others who are different from us with, as Elder Soares puts it, “the Savior’s eyes”?

"The more we treat people as sisters, the more they'll feel that sisterly love."

Today's guest is Magnify contributor Shima Baughman. Shima grew up in Iran, immigrated to the U.S. when she was little, and is now an author and law professor. This makes her an ideal person to share how we can bring more unity to our relationships inspired from Elder Soares' most recent address "Brothers and Sisters in Christ." Shima and Kathryn discuss her three spiritual takeaways.

Shima's three spiritual takeaways:

  • Love them because he loves them.
    • Our goal is to reach a kind of love where there is no light or differences between us. Where are are all one. Shima shares a story about helping a refugee mother and her own personal experience of being an immigrant, and how the Spirit whispered to her, "you are sisters."
  • Picture everyone wearing white.
    • Shima shares a thought she had while serving in the temple. We are united not only in purpose when we go to the temple, but we are physically all wearing the same thing: white. Wearing white tells a bigger story, which is that we are all united and made clean through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
  • Divine identity creates unity.
    • Shima shares the invitation that our prophet extended us: focus our identities on being children of God, children of the covenant, and disciples of Christ. This will bring us together more than anything. Differences can bring us closer.

Small and simple challenge: Ask Heavenly Father for ways that we can be enlightened through the Holy Ghost for ways we can improve on being united with others. One example Shima shares is to try to not treat people that are less-active or different from other ward members as less-than. Instead of inviting them to a church activity, ask them to bring something. Make them feel a part of the cause.
