| Ep. 76: Christians and Politics (Part 2) | 04 Sep 2024 | 00:34:22 | |
We’re back for part 2 of our chat with Blake Guichet about Christians and Politics. We chat about whether open borders and socialism are truly biblical, what it means that God is the one who raises up and brings down kings, and what this means for our political decisions as Bible-believing Christians. Wherever you fall on the political spectrum, we pray this episode will cause you to pray more, search your Bible diligently for truth, and trust yourself to the sovereign Lord of the universe whose purposes are always good, right, and true. | Ep. 75: Christians and Politics (A Chat with Blake Guichet) | 28 Aug 2024 | 00:40:11
Ever wondered whether Christians should vote and, if so, for whom? What about socialism vs. capitalism? Which is more biblical? And how will you handle it if you share something unpopular, and you receive backlash? We tackle all of these topics and more in this two part series on “Christians and Politics.” Make no mistake: This is two conservative women grappling with all of these issues from a biblical perspective. We are not neutral. And we believe your theology (bc everybody has one) should dictate the policies you support. Ultimately, God is sovereign. But He has, in His sovereignty, placed us in this world for our good and His glory in every area of our lives, including politics. We pray this will be a helpful episode for anyone wondering, “How now shall we live?” in this tumultuous age. | Ep. 65: Habits for a Sacred Home (A Chat with Jennifer Pepito) | 24 Apr 2024 | 00:33:40
Ever wondered how to create an environment of camaraderie, family connection, and meaningful discussion in your home? Continuing the theme from our conversation in the last episode with the Voetbergs, Jennifer Pepito shares her wisdom gleaned from years of investing intentionally in her own family, but she also shares mistakes and the grace the Lord has offered her in her imperfections. Be encouraged that you don’t have to “get everything right” to establish important traditions that become sacred and cherished in your family—even if none were passed down to you by your own parents! | Ep. 64: Passing Down the Good (A Chat with Elisha and Katie Voetberg) | 18 Apr 2024 | 00:52:29
Ep. 63: Passing Down the Good (A Chat with Elisha and Katie Voetberg) In a world that champions airing every bit of trauma/bad strategies passed down from parents, it’s rare (and refreshing!) to encounter young families who are, instead, holding with the positive traditions of their origin families and being intentional to praise the good (while acknowledging the not-so-good). Elisha and Katie Voetberg (who own/run our sponsor company, Voetberg Music Academy!) are doing just that—choosing to recognize + pass down the positive practices they were taught without turning a blind eye to the common pitfalls we all face as parents. They discuss what they love about their upbringings as members of larger-than-culturally-normal families. They share strategies for being intentional + wise with stewarding time with children + spouses. And they speak with maturity beyond their years that they credit to having parents who trusted them enough to apologize + pivot when things weren’t working. I know you’ll be encouraged + energized by this conversation! | Ep. 63: Christians Parents + The Library (A Chat With Good Book Mom) | 10 Apr 2024 | 00:38:53
Ever walked into a public library with your children, only to hurry them past the displays in the kids’ section because they’re almost all focused on promoting one secular agenda or another? You’re not alone. Choosing good literature for our kids--especially in light of the blatant bias many librarians proudly display--can be a challenging task in our current cultural climate. In this episode, Korie Johnson from Good Book Mom tells us all about how we, as Christian parents, can build relationships with our local library and its leaders in order to make an impact both on the books they promote and on the individuals themselves. You’ll be encouraged by her straightforward approach to choosing quality children’s literature (it doesn’t all have to be explicitly Christian!) and also her practical suggestions for how to interact with your library community to enact change. Korie has lots of great resources on her website where she vets and reviews hundreds of books so we don’t have to! | Ep. 62: Is the Child Free Movement Biblical? (A Chat with Jennifer Flanders) | 03 Apr 2024 | 01:06:01
“Child free” is a phrase that populates comment sections on social media, Reddit threads, news articles, and more. It’s more than a little trendy to at least entertain the idea of forgoing having children altogether. But is it biblical? I sit down with my good friend, Jennifer Flanders from Flanders Family Home Life, chat about the biblical implications of a child-free lifestyle. We also chat all things birth control and what it looks like to live a surrendered life before the Lord—in every area, including, but not limited to, our fertility. | Ep. 61: OVERSTIMULATED! (Part 2–Sometimes, It’s Our Fault) | 27 Mar 2024 | 00:32:39
In part one of this topic, we unpacked why “overstimulation” is such a commonly used term—especially in motherhood—these days. In this episode, we take a deeper look at some of the ways we might contributing to our own overwhelm. Because sometimes, all those “tabs” left open in our brain, driving us nuts, are the results of too many bad yeses and not enough good knows. Self-awareness and the ability to admit when we have gotten into bad habits or failed to heed wise advice are both crucial to reclaiming our mental peace in a way that honors God. | Ep. 60: OVERSTIMULATED!! (An Honest Look at a Hot Button Word) | 20 Mar 2024 | 00:32:19
Have you ever credited your frustration or overwhelm in a particular situation to “overstimulation?” If so, join the club! “Overstimulation” seems to be the word for mothers on social media (and many in-person interactions too). And it’s easy to understand why with so many things grabbing for our attention on top of a need to love and care for our families well. The good news is there is hope in the midst of the overwhelm, and we don’t have to be slaves to the things that make our brains feel like they’re full of bees. In this episode we’ll talk about the reality of feeling overstimulated (it’s not all in your head!) but also tackle practical ways to combat it with both compassion and grit. “Masculinity” might be one of the most hot-button words in our current culture. And one of the most misunderstood. Thankfully, my friend, Durenda Wilson, mama to eight, including five young men, is sharing her wisdom and experience with to help us understand the truth about raising boys. With humor, compassion, and practical action steps, she explains how important it is to parent our sons with intentionality and care for the unique ways that God has made them.

Have you ever found yourself nervous to announce a pregnancy, discuss parenting philosophies with a friend, or discuss school choices when your mother-in-law? Why? Because you’re afraid of what they’ll say! If so, you are far from alone. It’s so hard not to let other people’s opinions on the choices we make for our families affect our confidence in them. And yet, when it comes to issues that aren’t specifically addressed by Scripture, we have so much freedom in Christ to pray, seek wise counsel, confer with our spouses, and “do the next right thing” as unto the Lord—even if it’s not a conclusion our neighbor/cousin/mom/sister/friend would have reached. | Ep. 56: The Gift of a Special Needs Child (A Chat with My Bestie, Lindsay) | 21 Feb 2024 | 00:51:50
I regularly get asked if any of my children have a diagnosis with which we must grapple. While the answer is no, I do have firsthand knowledge of both the struggles and the joys of having a child with special needs through my friendship with Lindsay Long, my closest friend, business partner, and the illustrator of both M Is for Mama and Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad, and her daughter, Evie. In this episode, we talk about the grief that comes along with realizing that your child may never achieve some of the same milestones as other children with fewer limitations. We discuss the biblical principle of true contentment and the “joy set before us” in the privilege of pouring ourselves out for our children, regardless of disability. And we declare God’s goodness in hardship, even while acknowledging that we don’t always like the circumstances in which He has placed us. I have no doubt that Lindsay’s insights and experiences will be a blessing and an encouragement to all who listen—but especially to those who walk the sometimes lonely road of special needs parenting. Because motherhood (as with most things) is best done in community! Join us for a lively conversation about how “bad days don’t make moms”—in fact, they often give us an oppportunity to repent and model asking forgiveness to our kids. | Ep. 54: The Taylor Effect (Training Our Affections toward Christ when the World is Loud) | 07 Feb 2024 | 00:35:54
It would almost take living as a full-on Luddite to not know something about Taylor Swift. The sheer volume of interest, speculation, online posts, and photographs of just one person exemplifies our culture’s propensity to “obsess” over celebrities. One thing that sets “T Swift” apart is a dogged loyalty to/approval of/fascination with her: music, life choices, and person as a whole. And this includes many Christians who include themselves in the ranks of enthusiastic “Swifties.” In this episode, we examine what it looks like, from a biblical perspective, to be devoted first and foremost to Jesus rather than *any* pop culture icon, no matter how much nostalgia and warm fuzzy feelings arise when we think about listening to their music/watching their movies/living vicariously through their publicly broadcasted lives. This is not a bash on Taylor Swift but rather a call to every Christian to honestly examine to whom our affections are most devoted and by whom we are most influenced—Jesus and His holy Word…or the world. | Ep. 53: A Conversation About Deconstruction with Alisa Childers | 31 Jan 2024 | 00:50:25
When you hear the word “deconstruction,” what comes to mind? An honest examination of biblical truth? An automatic rejection of it? Something in between? In this episode, my friend, Alisa Childers—author, respected apologist, and, herself, a survivor of the deconstruction movement—does a great job of speaking to the need for defining our terms. After all, if nobody knows exactly what the term “deconstruction” means, it’s going to be impossible to bring it before the light of Scripture and examine it truthfully. Alisa and I also discuss why it’s important to understand this movement as moms who are charged with teaching our children God’s Word and encouraging them to seek truth over cultural trends. Be encouraged that clarity in this area is not only possible but crucial to combatting the cultural lies that tell us we know better than God. | Ep. 52: A Christian’s Response to Church (Part 2 - Church Hurt + Good Church Stories) | 24 Jan 2024 | 00:55:59
One of the more common buzz phrases I’m encountering on the Internet is the term “church hurt.” The problem, as with many popular phrases, is the true meaning of “church hurt” is hard to nail down, meaning anything from true abuse of power and spiritual neglect to a rightful accountability check of sin. Not only that, but since we are called to look not only to our own needs but also to the needs of others (Phil. 2:4), the intensely personal narrative surrounding church hurt often becomes more about the person who experienced (real or perceived) injury than it is about the God who heals every sorrow and is so near the brokenhearted. To further complicate issues, many in the church hurt movement seem determined to lump the entire entity of “church” in with what they deem a broken system, rotten to its core. And so, we must examine all of these claims in the light of Scripture. Is all church hurt equal? Should every claim be taken at face value? Is there still such a thing as a healthy church? We address all of these questions (and more) in light of Scripture in today’s episode. | Ep. 51: Halberstadt Birthday Traditions | 17 Jan 2024 | 00:24:39
One of my favorite things as a mom is figuring out traditions that our whole family will cherish for years. Our birthday traditions have evolved since we had our first almost 18 years ago until we have them down to, if not a science, a day of predictably fun (but also customizable) customs that everybody loves. If you’re looking for inspiration for creating traditions of your own, looking to switch things up a bit, or just needing encouragement that the effort to establish lasting traditions that will knit your family’s hearts closer together is worth it, then this episode is for you! | Ep. 50: A Christian’s Response to Church (Part 1–Don’t Be a Scoffer) | 03 Jan 2024 | 00:45:28
When it comes to the topic of “things Christians do” or “organized church,” it’s a bit of a free-for-all. You don’t have to be kind. You don’t have to be truthful. And you don’t have to take into consideration how making Christians/the church the butt of all your jokes affects the way the outside world looking in thinks about either/both (especially on social media). Except we do. Scripture makes it very clear that 1. The Christian church is the bride of Christ (and that’s a big deal) and 2. We will be held accountable for “every careless word” we speak—Matt. 12:36 (and that’s a huge deal!). Throw in Psalm 1, which urges us to avoid mockery and scoffing, and you’ve got a pretty compelling argument for treating this topic with the careful and honest handling it deserves. Does “the church” have problems? Yes. Will Christians fail us and do wrong things? Also, yes. But that’s not where the story ends, and I want to approach this series with the goal of bringing our attitudes and thoughts about church under the Lordship of Jesus Christ—just like we do (or should do) everything else. For those who watch via YouTube or Spotify, we apologize, but due to technical issues, there is no video available this week. We did it, friends! We made it through 2023 by the grace of God! And boy, do I mean that! There have been many moments this year that felt like too much, but tor Christ’s power at work in my life. I’m guessing you can relate! From book launching to our whole-family European adventure to a house flood to living in a rental for months while we renovate our entire downstairs, the Lord has shown Himself faithful time and time again. We're rounding out our Christmas series with a (mostly) lighthearted round of "Abbie's Favorite Christmas Things." This is such a special time of year to me, but, if I'm honest, this Christmas season hasn't felt particularly festive or fun, so this was a great exercise in reminding myself of the many ways that Christmas brings joy--the ultimate of which is the tiny baby who came to this world to save us from our sins! | Ep. 47: Let's Talk Christmas (Part 3--When Christmas Doesn't Feel Joyful) | 13 Dec 2023 | 00:19:38
It’s all well and good to give ideas for fun holiday activities and ways to bring the Christmas "magic." Family traditions are wonderful, and I will always advocate for their importance. But what about those for whom Christmas is a genuine struggle? What about the years when you’re just not "feeling it." There is hope in Christ for those who find themselves in this place. In fact, it is the whole hope of Christmas. Be encouraged, friends, that, even when you feel alone, the Savior, who came as a baby to grow up to manhood and sacrifice Himself for the sins of the world is by your side. | Ep. 46: Let’s Talk Christmas (Part 2 —Our Family’s Traditions) | 06 Dec 2023 | 00:37:33
One of the primary arguments I’ve heard against skipping Santa is that doing so will rob kids of the “magic of Christmas.”
The thing is: Nowhere in the Bible are we exhorted to do things for our kids that make them feel “magical” (in the sense of euphoria or warm, fuzzy feelings). But we are encouraged to “rejoice in the Lord” and to “give thanks in all circumstances.” And one way to do that in the Christmas season is by establishing family traditions that spark joy and fun and generosity.
In this episode, I discuss some of the specific things our family does to truly enjoy each other and praise God for His goodness during the Christmas season AND ways that we strive to bless others as well!
Hopefully, you’ll get some good ideas and be encouraged that there are so many good + wholesome + joy-filled ways to celebrate Christ’s birth.
P.S. One thing we’ve done that I forgot to mention is the Jesse Tree. Such a great tradition!

| Ep. 45: Let’s Talk Christmas (Part 1–The Santa Conversation) | 29 Nov 2023 | 00:30:42 | |
Every year, somewhere between October 1st and December 25, I start getting the same question on repeat: “Does your family ‘do Santa?’ Why or why not?” I tackle this question, and the why behind our answer, in this episode. As always, the goal in every discussion of whether or not to adhere to a particular tradition must be: Does it bring glory to God in the way that we practice it (if we do)? I also discuss three biblically sound questions to ask yourself as you approach the Santa conversation that may help clarify how you approach your family’s take on this. I hope you find this way of addressing “the Santa talk” edifying, encouraging, and helpful! | Ep. 44: When Gratitude Feels Hard (Our Actions Must Lead Our Feelings) | 22 Nov 2023 | 00:23:49
Have you ever felt like you have nothing to be grateful for? That your circumstances are too miserable to bear and that any attempt at thankfulness would be faking it? The Bible makes it clear that it is God’s will for us to practice continual thankfulness, and yet it also gives us lots of room for grief and sadness when life is so hard. Be encouraged that it is really is possible to honor God with our gratitude, even when we feel too weak to praise Him and even when our emotions feel the opposite of thankful. In this episode, we talk about a perspective shift that helps us to view gratitude rightly and to view even the most frustrating people in our lives through a lens of thankfulness. Praise God that He honors even our stumbling toward obedience in this area with the ability to keep going on the narrow path, even when we don’t feel like we have the strength to take another step. | Ep. 43: We Are Finite Beings (Assessing Where Our "Energy Points" Are Best Spent) | 15 Nov 2023 | 00:30:14
None of us have endless wells of energy. We all hit walls (of exhaustion or burnout or overwhelm) during certain seasons. Sometimes, it can be hard to know where our limited resources are best spent in particularly busy periods. Thankfully, we can turn to God for wisdom and rely on biblical principles to help us navigate the tricky waters of time management, learning to say no, and leaning into challenging seasons with the knowledge that we are right where God wants us to be! | Ep. 42: The Truth About “Honest” Motherhood (Part 3) | 08 Nov 2023 | 00:17:51
In a culture that assures us that the only way to be an “authentic” mom is to focus almost exclusively on the challenges and negative aspects of motherhood, it’s easy to fall into the trap of being afraid to speak out about the flip side of the coin: the truth that the joys and benefits of motherhood abound if only we have eyes to see them and the courage to proclaim them. Be encouraged, friends, that there is so much good in being thankful (just as we’re exhorted by Scripture), even in the midst of trials, and that rejoicing in good mothering days, far from being inauthentic, can be a beacon of light for other moms doing their best to keep their heads above water in the stormy seas of mothering struggles shared in the name of “telling it straight.” Bible References: Galatians 6:9 Philippians 4:4 Links: M Is for Mama Penny Reward System Leave a Review for the M is for Mama Show Paint & Prose Pre-Order Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad M Is For Mama Chore Guide M Is For Mama Meal Plan Sign-Up Find Abbie at:
| Ep. 41: The Truth About “Honest Motherhood” (Part 2) | 01 Nov 2023 | 00:29:32 | |
Last week, we talked about the view of motherhood that posits that the only way to be “real” is to expose the hard parts of being a mom and name them one-by-one. This week, we talk about how motherhood, far from stripping us of our true selves or primary identity, can be a wonderful avenue for helping us exercise our God-given talents + abilities in ways that honor Him, serve our families, and bring us great fulfillment as well. I share examples from my own journey as a mother, but as always, the goal is never to do things “Abbie-style” (or insert any other name) but instead to ground everything we do in the Word of God and His principles for life that will never change or lead us astray. | Ep. 40: The Truth About "Honest Motherhood" (Part 1) | 25 Oct 2023 | 00:33:52
Have you ever encountered a social media post that assures you that, unlike all the "other moms," they are going to tell you the truth about motherhood--and the truth is that "it sucks" and robs you of your identity? Maybe you've felt a tug of relatability? Or maybe you've felt your spirit revolt against what seems to be hopelessness and despair? No matter your response, be encouraged that God is not surprised by your struggles in motherhood (or anything else), and there IS always hope in Christ and a purpose in the growing pains we all experience as moms--even if only to draw us closer to the one who never leaves us or forsakes us. | Ep. 39: Stop Doom-Scrolling and Start Praying (A Word of Encouragement When the World Feels Scary) | 22 Oct 2023 | 00:18:40
Today's episode is a little different, but it's what I felt the Lord nudging me to say as I've received a number of panicked DMs asking for encouragement and reassurance in the midst of the uncertain and even tragic circumstances that so many around the world are enduring. Remember, friends, that we were never called to either a) bury our heads in the sand and pretend that suffering doesn't exist OR b) immerse ourselves only in doom and gloom and forget that we have hope in the Lord and an obligation to keep loving God and loving our neighbor. Also, prayer is powerful. I hope this episode brings you fresh perspective and vision! | Ep. 38: A Birthday Trip Recap Chat with Shaun (Banff, Alberta, Canada) | 11 Oct 2023 | 00:44:07
Shaun and I got the incredible opportunity to visit a "bucket list" locale "for my birthday" (I really did have a birthday while there, but it was mostly just a fun excuse to take a trip during a gorgeous time of year). It was one of the most enjoyable and relaxing trips that I can remember in recent years, and the scenery was beyond beautiful. (Special thanks to my nice parents for staying with our kids and keeping everything running smoothly at home.) I had so many requests for a trip recap + itinery + places we ate that I decided to ask Shaun to join me for a chat about all things Banff (or at least all things Banff that we experienced), and he said yes! We hope you enjoy and get some inspiration for trips of your own (whether to Banff or not). | Ep. 37: Crispy at Best Meets Really Very Crunchy (A Chat with Emily Morrow) | 04 Oct 2023 | 01:08:59
Friends! This episode was so fun to record. My friend, Emily Morrow (AKA: Really Very Crunchy) drove all the way from Kentucky with her family to stay with us for a weekend to celebrate at my Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad book launch party. While she was here, we sat down to chat about all things internet fame (hers, not mine), DMs, the origin of her account, finding and making lasting friendships, motherhood, Emily’s new book, and so much more. Is she really very crunchy? Does she mouth tape? What was she really thinking when I slathered her son in lavender oil after he got into his first ever bed of fire ants? (Ugh, Texas, c’mon!) You’ll never know until you listen! Find Emily on Instagram at @reallyverycrunchy (she also posts to Youtube and Tiktok under the same name). You can also pre-order her new book here! | Ep. 36: “How Do You Do It All?” (I Don’t, and I’m So Grateful for Help) | 27 Sep 2023 | 00:38:51
If you’ve ever wondered how someone else “does it all,” I’ve got a spoiler alert for you: They don’t. No one does (definitely me included). Plus, I truly believe there’s a better question we could be asking (that I share in this episode). And I chat about the Lord’s provision for help that has enabled me to do more in this season (without feeling like such a Lone Ranger) than I have in the past. Yes, there are some people that have more on their plate than others, and there are some seasons that allow for less/more capacity. But as long as we are more concerned with the Lord’s will and His perfect timing than with any desire to replicate someone else’s “system,” we can be truly content in the “good works that He has prepared in advance for us.” Be encouraged that, as you seek the Lord, He has you right where you need to be, doing exactly the right tasks you should be doing. | Ep. 35: Tools, Not Treasures (Body Image in Light of the Cross) | 20 Sep 2023 | 00:33:48
Ever been less-than-pleased with the body you see in the mirror? I've been there (in some ways, am still there at the moment). I would wager that, between pregnancy body changes, unrealistic cultural beauty standards (hello, air-brushing), and a tendency to be overly critical of our appearances, most of us women can relate to wishing we could tweak a thing or two about the way we look. But is that how God views us? If we look to Scripture, we quickly discover that, rather than swinging to one extreme or the other of either self-indulgence or vain self-obsession, we are to "offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God." (Romans 12:1) In other words, it's way less about how we look (a lesson I am constantly learning/relearning as my body ages) and way more about how we love God and love others with the resources (including the body) He's given us. I am still a work in progress in every area, including this one, but, as always, I'm so grateful the Lord is so gracious not to leave us where He finds us. | Ep. 34: Hard is Not the Same Thing As Good (Recognizing Our Limitations and God’s Provision) | 13 Sep 2023 | 00:31:07
If hard is not the same thing as bad, does that then mean all hard things are good? NOPE. In this episode, we chat about when hard really is bad, how the Lord can still teach us and shape us through those things, and when to “abandon” the hard because God is clearly offering a different path forward. Also, a super exciting update from our family that perfectly exemplifies the Lord’s gracious provision in the midst of the challenging aftermath of our downstairs house flooding. Pssttt…I also have a chapter about this in Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad. For our video audience, we apologize, but there is no video this week. Also the audio is a bit rougher than usual, we’ll be back to usual programming next week! | Ep. 33: Therapy and Jesus? (A Chat With Bible-Believing Licensed Counselor, Amy Waters) | 06 Sep 2023 | 01:07:56
In a therapy-centric culture, it can be hard to differentiate between biblical truth and secular psychology (some aspects of which are at complete odds with each other). Anytime I speak to the importance of addressing this phenomenon from a biblical perspective, I get one of two responses: 1. “Thank you for speaking up,” or 2. “Please don’t talk about this. You’ll keep people from getting the help they need.” So, which is it? Is it possible to question the “everybody needs therapy” narrative and examine it in the light of Scripture without hindering those who really do need professional counseling? To help answer that question, I invited my friend, Amy Waters, who is a Bible-Believing professional counselor and owner of her own wellness practice called Living Well, on the show to discuss things like the overuse of the Three Ts (therapy, triggers, and trauma), what it looks like to shine the light of Capital T Truth on them, and how we can discern if we need therapy or just need to find better community. I love her compassionate, measured, and, above all, biblical approach to this topic, and I think everyone who listens to this conversation will benefit greatly from the back-and-forth between two women who love the Lord first and really want to see women (and everyone else!) thrive in their God-given callings, however that can best be achieved in a biblical way. P.S. I mention in this episode that Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad comes out next week, BUT, that’s actually THIS week. It released yesterday, and is available just about everywhere books are sold! | Ep. 32: A Very Hard Week (That Was Still Not all Bad) | 30 Aug 2023 | 00:29:19
Goodness gracious, friends! If you want to have a challenging week, have the audacity to publish a book called Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad. I can't tell you how many people have said, "It sure does seem like you're under spiritual attack right now, Abbie," and I suppose I have to agree, since the Bible clearly says that our fight is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual realm. Still, the Lord has been so gracious to provide moments of respite and opportunities to recognize his mercies in the midst of the hard of back pain and scary episodes with wasp stings, and major publishing mess-ups, and, yes, an entire downstairs flooding so badly we are now living in a gutted kitchen. Even though some will call it "toxic positivity," I'm declaring my gratitude that the Lord has given our family a peace that truly passes all understanding through our current inconvenient, and sometimes frustrating, living situation. Be encouraged, friends. The Lord has not forgotten you in the midst of your struggles. He has a plan and a purpose for even this. Today, we're wrapping up Our Grand European Adventure recaps! This one's a bit of grab bag as I share some of the challenges (expected and otherwise), joys, and a few tips and tricks sprinkled in. Let's just say toddler twins were a handful...often literally. And we knew they would be. But it's impossible to truly plan for the level of emotional extremes you'll experience when you've got a pair of jetlagged toddlers. But the high moments far outweighed the hard ones, and I make sure to share a few core memories I'll never forget. (Oh, and the town I couldn't remember that some said we should have gone to instead of Pisa is Sienna!) Enjoy, friends! Also, be sure to check out the fantastic (hand-drawn! affordable!) educational printables from my sponsor, Arrows and Applesauce. I also share some of my favorite moments, as well as a low moment or two. Oh, and a buffalo. But you’ll have to listen to find out what that is! | Ep. 28: We Are the Parents - Part 2 (The Why Behind Our Homeschool) | 02 Aug 2023 | 00:27:53
Last week, we talked about the fact that we--not the government or the church or public education--are responsible for the well-rounded education of the children that have been gifted to our care by God. This week, we continue the discussion with the "why" behind our family's choice to home school, as well as some background on my own homeschool experience growing up. Be encouraged (but also sobered), moms and dads, that whatever schooling choices the Lord leads you to, it is you who must give an account before the Lord for what you have done to steward your children's hearts and guide them toward His ways. We cannot save our children or keep them in the narrow way, it's true. But we can do everything in our power (by God's help and grace) to be intentional to point them toward the Way Everlasting. | Ep. 27: We Are the Parents - Part 1 (Recognizing and Embracing Our God-Given Responsibilities) | 26 Jul 2023 | 00:27:32
Our culture abounds with memes poking fun (or downright mocking) the role of parents--playing up the cluelessness of dads (and moms too) and treating children as a burden to be escaped or, at the very least, outsourced. Not only that, but a rising trend toward the prioritization of the views of "experts" (even if that expertise has been conferred by a course or a degree, rather than experience or extensive research) over the authority of parents makes it clear that, if we don't embrace our God-given role as the primary disciplers of our children, the world is ready and willing to step in. But Scripture makes it very clear that, we, not the government or teachers or experts, are ultimately responsible for our children's well-rounded education. Be encouraged that *you* are best-equipped to parent your unique kiddos well because God is the one who equips you! "Have you ever had a miscarriage. If so, how did you deal with it?" I've been asked some version of this question for years, and while the simple answer is yes, in this podcast I delve into the way that my stories of loss have helped shape me as a mother and given me empathy for those who have walked the same hard road. Here, you will find space for your grief but also encouragement and hope for your future. Together, we tackle a hard, often hidden, topic with the grace of God and the knowledge that we can "mourn with those mourn" as well as spur each other on toward healing and renewed perspective on the goodness of God.
