Fast forward a year and she is back to tell us how Briony is getting on, the fight for a specialist school and her feelings around the future now.

Its been a few weeks but Amy & Kirsty are back with a roundup from the half term break.

Kirsty has been flying solo whilst the hubby has been away and talks about the benefits that has actually had on Max and his routine in many ways.

Alex has been attempting to discuss his emotions and ask for more things this half term. But with the start of communication has been the outbursts of frustration which have been challenging for Amy.

And of course it wouldn't be a school holiday without another balloon incident.

Penelope is mum to son Connor who was diagnosed with Autism at 7, has had epilepsy since he was 8 weeks old and has a learning disability. 

He is now 24, drives and is looking to live independently.

Its not been the easiest of journey’s of which Connor is still on but Penelope  wishes that she had, had a crystal ball when he was younger to look into the future as she would have been amazed and in awe to see what he has achieved and continues to achieve.

Mary Long-Dhonau OBE: The Hardship Behind Raising A Son With Severe Autism03 Jul 202500:47:33

On this episode of Love Needs No Words, Amy & Kirsty are joined by Mary Long-Dhonau OBE. 

Mary also known as 'Flood Mary' is known in a work capacity for going above and beyond to support victims of flooding. But at home she is mum to Peter who is 28, Non Speaking and Autistic. 

Mary wrote so eloquently on LinkedIn about how difficult it is parenting a child and now adult with severe needs.

She describes the early days and the impact his behaviours had on the family, in particular his siblings. The teenagers years that were particularly difficult and the tough decision to send him to residential care, which, ultimately saved his life and gave the family their lives back.

Jessie home educated her son for two years whilst navigating the school system and explains to us that at its worst, her son's behaviour can be so overpowering and controlling, it can feel like you are in an abusive relationship.

With still little understanding of PDA in society, Jessie through her instagram page @mrsjessietownz is raising awareness and supporting other parents who have children with a PDA profile. 

As well as offering support to teachers and learning staff who have a PDA’ers in their setting.

The Boys Are Early Risers: 'Coffee Is Life' 22 May 202500:34:44

Their love of Coffee as both Alex & Max are early risers.

They discuss Ipads and the brilliance and downfall that they have had and continue to have on the boys.

They talk through the topic that is being discussed a lot in the SEN community at the moment - the fear that EHCP's will be taken away from children in mainstream schools. The anxiety they both have about that message and the detrimental impact they feel it would have on SEN children like Alex & Max that wouldn't be able to survive in a mainstream classroom without it. And also the impact they feel it would have on the other children in the classroom if EHCP's were taken away from those that need it.

Michael struggles with certain clothing so Kasia created a clothing brand called Blue Bee Mike to help children with disabilities like Michael who struggle with certain textures and to highlight the importance of the right clothes for kids with disabilities.

Kasia discusses the journey she has been on so far with Michael, the highs and the lows and explains how the business has given her a direction again.

Ruby: Ewan And Me: 'I Want Ewan And Everyone Like Him To Be Celebrated'14 Oct 202500:49:31

Ruby has the account @ewanandme on instagram where she shares her brother Ewan’s story.

Ewan is 23, diagnosed Autistic, has a severe learning disability and is non speaking and Ruby describes on her instagram about him reaching crisis point various times over the last few years, even loosing his sight in one of his eyes through a self injury.

Its been a journey of difficulty, emotion, hardship but one filled with so much care and love.

Ruby talks about her feelings from a sibling's perspective and that she has never been expected to take care of him the way she does, it just comes from a natural place of love and choice.

And that she wants Ewan and everyone like him to be celebrated!

Arthur has Autism and is non-speaking and Leona has been sharing his journey through her Instagram page @leonajadesmith.

Leona talks openly and honestly about Arthur’s initial diagnosis and how that made her feel, his global Developmental Delay and what that means.

His relationship with his sister and how that is blossoming, the transport to his school and the fear that came with that, the struggle she feels when Arthur is unwell as he can't explain what is wrong and finally the words she would say to herself if she could go back to the early days.

A lot of her work is dealing with Education Health Care Plans and other concerns parents have with the SEND system.
