113: How Your Choices Program Your Self Identity 08 sept. 202600:42:39

Every choice you make becomes evidence about who you are.

That doesn’t mean you have to make the “right” choice every time. It means that your self-identity isn’t fixed—and you don’t have to wait until you feel confident, motivated, or completely calm to begin becoming the woman you want to be.

In this episode, I’m talking about how your repeated choices program the way you see yourself. Each time you follow through on an intention—especially when life feels stressful—you give your brain new evidence about what you’re capable of.

You’ll also learn about your Window of Tolerance: the range of stress and emotional activation within which you can still access your values, think clearly, and make intentional decisions.

Expanding that window doesn’t mean eliminating stress. It means becoming more capable of staying connected to yourself while stress is happening.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

• How your everyday choices shape your self-identity
• Why identity is built through repeated evidence—not positive thinking alone
• What your Window of Tolerance is and how it affects your choices
• Why resilience means remaining intentional while you’re activated
• How small acts of follow-through teach your brain that you can trust yourself
• Why eating lunch after a stressful phone call, taking a walk after disappointing news, or stopping at comfortable fullness can be powerful identity-building choices

You do not need to transform your entire life today.

Choose one small action that reflects the woman you’re becoming—and let that choice become evidence.

112: How to Keep Going With Your Weight Goal Even When Life Gets Stressful25 août 202600:26:23

The goal isn’t to prove that you can keep doing everything no matter what life throws at you. And it isn’t to wait until life becomes easy again before you take care of yourself.

It’s learning how to stay connected to what matters while being honest about what you can realistically carry right now.

So ask yourself:

What does following through look like under these circumstances?

Maybe you do less.

Maybe you simplify.

Maybe you temporarily change the pace of the goal.

Maybe you protect just a few important behaviors and let the rest go for now.

That isn’t failure. It’s flexibility.

A stressful season doesn’t erase the progress you’ve made, and it doesn’t require you to choose between pushing at full capacity and giving up completely. You can adjust the plan, lower the pressure, and still keep moving in the direction you want to go.

And when your capacity increases, you can build from there.

You don’t have to abandon the goal just because you need a different way to pursue it right now.

Adapt the plan. Protect the progress. Keep the goal.

Because sustainable weight management has to work in your actual life—even when your actual life is stressful.

111: Understanding Your Nervous System For Better Weight Management11 août 202600:35:00

If you’ve ever noticed that eating well feels relatively easy when life is calm—and suddenly much harder when you’re stressed, overscheduled, underslept, worried about someone you love, or simply dealing with too much—there’s a reason.

Your nervous system changes the conditions under which you’re making decisions. And that matters enormously for your weight management.

In this episode, I’m talking about the connection between sympathetic drive, stress, recovery, and non-hunger-driven eating, particularly for women in midlife.

When your nervous system spends too much time activated, you may notice more food noise, stronger urges for highly rewarding foods, less patience for planning and cooking, more evening eating, disrupted sleep, increased alcohol cravings, and a general feeling of I just don’t have the bandwidth for this today.

That isn’t information to judge yourself with. It’s information you can learn to use.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What sympathetic activation actually is—and why it isn’t inherently bad
  • How chronic stress and insufficient recovery can influence hunger, cravings, food reward, sleep, and decision-making
  • Why non-hunger-driven eating often increases when your physiological and emotional resources are depleted
  • Why midlife women may need to become more intentional about recovery rather than simply demanding more discipline from themselves
  • How your wearables and biometric data can help you recognize patterns without turning those numbers into another grading system
  • Why the goal isn’t to eliminate stress, but to become better at moving between activation and recovery
  • How to identify the conditions that make autopilot eating more likely for you
  • What to do differently on days when your nervous system is already carrying a heavier load

One of the most important shifts I want you to make is this:

Stop asking only, “What should I eat?” and start asking, “What state am I making this decision from?”

Because your weight-management strategy shouldn’t assume that you wake up with exactly the same physiological resources every day.

Some days you have plenty of capacity.

Other days require more recovery, fewer decisions, simpler meals, stronger boundaries, earlier sleep, and a plan that asks less of you.

Learning to recognize those differences—and respond to them intelligently—is part of building a weight-management strategy you can actually sustain.

Your nervous system isn’t separate from your eating behavior.

It’s part of the environment in which that behavior happens.

110: The Hidden Cost of Self-Abandonment 28 juil. 202600:27:35

Have you ever wondered why you know exactly what to do to lose weight... but somehow you don't follow through?

What if the problem isn't a lack of willpower?

What if you've simply gotten into the habit of abandoning yourself?

In this episode, I'm exploring one of the most common patterns I see in coaching women in midlife: saying yes when you mean no, putting everyone else's needs ahead of your own, ignoring your body's signals, delaying meals, skipping movement, forgetting medications, and believing that being endlessly available is what makes you a good person.

The truth is, every time you leave yourself behind, you weaken your relationship with yourself. And when self-trust erodes, food often becomes the place we turn for comfort, relief, or reward.

Through real client stories and practical coaching examples, you'll learn why boundaries aren't selfish—they're one of the most powerful tools for protecting your health, your nervous system, and your ability to follow through on the promises you make to yourself.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  •  Why self-abandonment—not lack of discipline—is often the real obstacle to lasting weight loss.
  •  How over-functioning and people-pleasing quietly increase stress and make healthy habits harder to maintain.
  •  The connection between boundaries, nervous system regulation, and sustainable fat loss.
  •  Why food is often responding to a deeper pattern rather than causing it.
  •  A simple nightly reflection practice to begin rebuilding self-trust one decision at a time.

109: Why Your Attention Matters More Than Your Willpower14 juil. 202600:41:07

Have you ever reached the end of the day wondering...

"Where did all my energy go?"

You intended to make a nourishing dinner, stop eating when you were comfortably full, or go for that evening walk...

Instead, you found yourself eating mindlessly, scrolling your phone, or feeling completely depleted.

It isn't because you lack willpower.

It may be because your attention has been spent long before you ever sat down to eat.

In this episode, we're talking about something that affects every part of your health, your habits, and your weight loss—but almost no one is discussing it:

Your attention.

Modern life is constantly competing for it. News headlines. Social media. Imaginary conversations. Worry. Resentment. Other people's stress. Even well-meaning family members can unknowingly pull you into an "attention spiral."

And every time your attention is hijacked, it costs you.

Not just mentally—but physically.

I'll explain how chronic attention overload can keep your nervous system activated, influence your eating decisions, and make it harder to stay connected to the choices that actually matter.

You'll also learn practical ways to protect your attention so you have more capacity for mindful eating, calmer relationships, and sustainable weight loss.

In this episode you'll learn:

✨ Why attention—not willpower—is often the missing piece in sustainable weight loss

✨ What an "attention budget" is and why you can unknowingly spend it before dinner

✨ How stress, distraction, and divided attention increase the likelihood of eating on autopilot

✨ Why your wearable (like an Oura Ring or smartwatch) may already be showing the physiological cost of chronic attention overload

✨ Simple transition rituals that help you arrive at meals calmer, more present, and more intentional

✨ How setting boundaries around conversations, media, and technology protects your nervous system—and your eating habits

✨ Why learning to repeatedly redirect your attention is one of the most powerful habits you can build

This week's challenge

For the next seven days, simply notice:

What keeps stealing your attention?

Each time you catch yourself pulled into worry, outrage, imaginary conversations, doom scrolling, or someone else's emotional weather...

Pause.

Then gently ask yourself:

"Is this where I want to invest my attention?"

Remember:

Your attention is one of the most valuable resources you have.

Spend it like it matters.

If you enjoyed today's episode, I'd love to hear from you! Send me a DM on Instagram @ThriveInMidlife and tell me:

What has been charging your attention lately?

I'd love to know what you're noticing.

108 Emotional Sobriety: how to feel your life rather than eat over it30 juin 202600:29:32

What if the problem isn’t that you need more self-control?

What if the real work is learning how to stay present with yourself—especially when life feels uncomfortable?

In this episode, we’re talking about emotional sobriety: the practice of remaining emotionally present, honest, and connected to yourself instead of reaching for something outside yourself to change how you feel.

For many women, buffering doesn’t just look like overeating. It can also look like scrolling, overworking, people-pleasing, overthinking, procrastinating, staying busy, avoiding difficult conversations, or constantly putting yourself last.

The challenge isn’t that you’re weak or undisciplined. The challenge is that you’ve likely become very skilled at leaving yourself whenever life feels uncomfortable.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • What emotional sobriety actually means and why it matters for sustainable weight loss
  • The many ways women buffer uncomfortable emotions without realizing it
  • How emotional eating often functions as an attempt to create safety, relief, or escape
  • Why compliance, perfectionism, and people-pleasing can also be forms of emotional buffering
  • The difference between reacting to emotions and learning to stay present with them
  • How nervous system regulation supports emotional sobriety
  • Why self-advocacy, boundaries, and honesty are essential skills for lasting change
  • Practical examples of what emotionally sober behavior looks like in everyday life

I also share examples from coaching conversations, including:

  • Leaving a restaurant when the experience isn’t working for you instead of enduring it
  • Setting boundaries with adult children without managing everyone else’s emotions
  • Choosing rest without guilt
  • Staying with feelings of boredom, disappointment, resistance, or uncertainty rather than immediately trying to fix them
  • Learning to trust yourself enough to remain emotionally present, even when it’s uncomfortable

Emotional sobriety isn’t about becoming perfectly calm or never wanting to escape discomfort.

It’s about developing the capacity to remain connected to yourself while experiencing the full range of human emotions—and discovering that you are far more capable of handling those emotions than you’ve been taught to believe.

If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I know what to do, but I just can’t seem to do it,” this episode may help you understand why.

Because the goal isn’t more self-control.

The goal is learning how to stay with yourself.

107: Creating a Rebound Protocol When Nothing Seems To Be Working 16 juin 202600:33:58

Have you ever stepped on the scale and felt completely confused?

You’ve been trying.
You’ve been paying attention.
You thought things were going reasonably well.

And yet somehow the scale moved in the wrong direction. Or maybe you’ve hit a stretch where nothing seems to be happening at all.

When that happens, most women immediately assume they need more discipline, a stricter plan, or a complete restart. But what if the answer isn't working harder? What if the real solution is learning how to respond to setbacks with curiosity instead of panic?

In this episode, I share the exact rebound protocol I teach my clients when progress stalls, weight rebounds, or they feel stuck and unsure what to do next.

You'll learn how to stop spiraling, gather useful information, identify what is actually happening beneath the surface, and create a simple path forward without shame, punishment, or extreme measures.

This episode will help you:

• Understand why rebounds are a normal part of long-term weight management

• Recognize the early warning signs before a small wobble becomes a bigger setback

• Learn how to evaluate your habits objectively instead of emotionally

• Create simple experiments that help you regain momentum

• Build confidence in your ability to recover quickly when life throws you off course

• Develop your own personal rebound plan for future challenges

If you've ever thought, "Nothing is working," this episode will show you a different way to approach the problem. Because sustainable weight loss isn't about never getting off track. It's about learning how to find your way back.

🎧 Listen now and learn how to turn setbacks into data, confusion into clarity, and rebounds into opportunities for growth.

106: How To Move from Self Control To Self Trust 02 juin 202600:43:57

Have you ever felt like the only way you can lose weight is by being more disciplined, more controlled, and better at following the plan?

You’re not alone.

Many women come to me believing self-control is the answer. They follow rules, avoid certain foods, and constantly ask themselves, “What should I do?”

But over time, that approach becomes exhausting. It creates a cycle of dieting burnout, overeating, frustration, and starting over.

In this episode, you’ll learn why self-control isn’t the same thing as self-trust—and why the women who succeed long-term eventually make that shift.

We’ll explore how to reconnect with your body’s signals, make decisions from internal wisdom instead of fear, and build confidence that doesn’t depend on perfect compliance.

🎧 In This Episode You’ll Learn:

✔️ The difference between self-control and self-trust

✔️ Why dieting often teaches you to outsource your authority

✔️ The three types of safety required for sustainable weight loss

✔️ How restriction can unintentionally fuel overeating

✔️ Why uncertainty is part of the process—and how to handle it

✔️ Simple experiments that help you build trust with yourself around food

✔️ How to stay present during meals so your body can guide your decisions

105: The 12-Minute Window19 mai 202600:21:09

What if the biggest factor impacting your weight loss progress isn’t what you’re eating… but whether you’re mentally present while you’re eating?

In this episode, Heather explores one of the most overlooked patterns she sees in coaching women: spending the entire day thinking about food, weight, goals, and “trying to do better”… only to completely disconnect during the actual meal itself.

This episode will help you understand:

  •  Why so many women “go unconscious” while eating
  •  The surprising reason distracted eating has such a powerful effect on results
  •  How the brain uses food as a way to mentally check out from stress, responsibility, and decision fatigue
  •  Why weight loss may have less to do with constant self-control and more to do with a very small daily window of awareness
  •  The hidden connection between presence, satisfaction, fullness, and follow-through
  •  How to stay connected to yourself during meals without becoming rigid, obsessive, or “perfect”

Heather also discusses the research behind meal duration, why fullness signals are often missed, and how a simple shift in awareness may completely change your relationship with food.

If you’ve ever said:

  •  “I don’t even remember eating that.”
  •  “I was good all day and then checked out at dinner.”
  •  “I think about my weight constantly but still feel disconnected while eating…”

…this episode is for you.

✨ This conversation is practical, eye-opening, compassionate, and deeply relevant for women trying to lose weight without living in constant food obsession.

🎧 Listen now and begin building the skill of staying with yourself during the moments that matter most.

104: How To Master Distracted Eating 05 mai 202600:19:44

🎙️ Episode 104: How to Master Distracted Eating

✨ You don’t need perfect, distraction-free meals to lose weight.

If you’ve ever found yourself eating in front of the TV, scrolling your phone, or multitasking through meals—and then wondering why you’re still hungry or overeating later…This episode is for you.

Because the goal isn’t to eliminate distracted eating. It’s to learn how to work with it in a way that still supports your body, your goals, and your life.

🎧 In this episode, you’ll learn how to:

✔️ Understand why distracted eating leads to overeating (without blaming yourself)
✔️ Use simple awareness shifts to stay connected to your body—even while distracted
✔️ Stop the “I already messed up, so it doesn’t matter” spiral
✔️ Eat to your desired percentage full without needing perfect conditions
✔️ Create a realistic approach to meals that actually fits your lifestyle

🧠 What’s really going on

Distracted eating isn’t the problem. The problem is losing connection to your body’s feedback system—your hunger, your fullness, your satisfaction.

When you learn how to stay just connected enough while eating,
you can enjoy your meals, your environment, and your life…without overeating as the default.

🔑 What you’ll walk away with

A way to eat in real life—
at your kitchen counter, in your car, at a restaurant, on the couch—

…and still feel in control, satisfied, and aligned with your goals.

No rules.
 No restriction.
Just a skill you can practice and get better at.

103: The Follow Through Formula21 avr. 202600:42:11

In this episode, I’m walking you through the exact follow-through formula I use with my clients to turn intentions into consistent action — without relying on willpower.

You’ll learn how to:

✔ Identify the real reason you’re not following through
✔ Break any goal down into clear, doable steps
✔ Build an environment that makes success easier (and more automatic)
✔ Reverse-engineer your habits so execution becomes inevitable
✔ Make decisions ahead of time so you stop negotiating with yourself
✔ Apply this to real life — including movement, planning, and overeating

🧠 The Follow-Through Formula

Here’s the framework I teach inside the episode:

Name it → Build it → Reverse it → Decide it → Do it

When you apply this formula, follow-through stops feeling random…
and starts feeling repeatable.

💡 Real-Life Examples from Coaching

Inside the episode, I walk you through:

✨ A client who finally followed through on her morning yoga routine — not by trying harder, but by simplifying her first step

✨ My personal strength training system (garage gym, binder, schedule, cues — the whole setup 😄)

✨ How to reduce overeating by one time per week using a structured, data-driven approach

🍽 Applying This to Your Eating Habits

If your goal is to:

👉 Eat less
👉 Feel more in control around food
👉 Stop overeating as often

You’ll learn how to:

• Track your current overeating patterns
• Plan your week ahead of time
• Choose one easier day to practice not overeating
• Reverse-engineer your environment to support success
• Use awareness instead of willpower

🔁 Why This Works

Follow-through isn’t about being “better.”

It’s about:

✔ Building the right system
✔ Reducing friction
✔ Making decisions ahead of time
✔ Creating a clear first step

When those pieces are in place…

Execution becomes much easier.

🛠 Want Help Applying This?

This is exactly the kind of work I help my clients do inside:

👉 Private coaching
👉 Small group coaching
👉 And inside my Follow-Through Planner

95: When Life Changes: Devotion, Impermanence, and What We Carry Forward30 déc. 202500:17:40

As this year comes to a close, this episode is an invitation to pause.

Life doesn’t give us guarantees. Time moves forward whether we’re ready or not. And some days mark a clear before-and-after — the kind of days where nothing ever looks quite the same again.

In today’s episode, you’ll hear a deeply personal reflection inspired by three daily readings I return to each morning — The Daily Laws, The Daily Stoic, and The Daily Pressfield. Together, they point to a powerful truth: impermanence sharpens what matters, devotion gives us grounding, and wisdom comes from knowing what to hold tightly and what to hold lightly.

You’ll explore how this perspective reshapes the way you think about your goals — especially weight loss — not as something that defines your worth, but as a meaningful practice of self-respect, self-trust, and presence in your life.

This episode is for you if you’ve ever wondered:

  • Why it’s worth working toward change even when nothing is promised
  • How to care deeply about your goals without clinging to outcomes
  • What weight management has to do with identity, integrity, and becoming who you are
  • How to stay devoted to yourself through seasons of uncertainty and transition

You’ll leave with a calmer, steadier understanding of why this work matters — and why it’s also okay to hold it lightly.

As you move into a new year, this episode offers a gentle reminder:
Try. Care. Show up. And let life remain bigger than any single outcome.

94: How To Take Back Your Energy And Your Time 16 déc. 202500:35:29

If you’re heading into January thinking you need better routines, better time blocking, or more discipline—this episode will change the conversation.

Because the real issue isn’t time.
It’s energy.

In this episode, you’ll learn how protecting your mental, emotional, and physical energy is the missing link to easier follow-through, steadier eating, and less burnout—and how one simple phrase, “No, thank you,” can become one of your most powerful self-regulation tools.

This episode will feel like a deep exhale.

✨ What You’ll Get from Listening

After this episode, you’ll understand:

  • Why time management fails when your energy is depleted
  • How low energy—not lack of willpower—drives overeating and procrastination
  • The four types of energy that quietly determine how your days (and nights) go
  • Why people-pleasing directly drains the energy you need for self-control
  • How saying “No, thank you” protects your capacity without guilt or conflict
  • Why boundaries improve eating habits, mood, and consistency—backed by behavioral science

🧠 Why This Works

You’ll learn how boundary-setting:

  • Reduces decision fatigue and emotional overwhelm
  • Preserves self-regulation (the resource you need for intentional eating)
  • Increases agency, self-trust, and follow-through
  • Prevents burnout-driven nighttime overeating

In short:
When your energy is protected, everything feels easier.

📘 Planning with Energy (Not Pressure)

You’ll also hear how this concept reshaped the Time Management 101 and Weekly Planning pages in the 2026 Follow-Through Planner, so your planner supports your real life instead of demanding more from you.

🧩 This Week’s Simple Challenge

You’ll leave with a clear, doable challenge to:

  • Remove one unnecessary energy drain
  • Protect one recovery moment
  • Practice “No, thank you” once—on purpose
  • Feel the difference immediately

🎧 Listen now and give yourself a calmer, more supported start to January.

88: From Tactical Hell to the Light Side of Strategy30 sept. 202500:09:15

Are you stuck in the weeds with your weight loss? Counting calories, labeling foods “good” or “bad,” tracking overeats, and starting over every Monday? That’s what I call tactical hell — where every little action feels exhausting because there’s no bigger vision guiding you.

In this short but powerful episode, I’ll show you how to rise above tactical hell and step into the light side of strategy. When you commit to being a strategist, everything changes: setbacks become feedback, the details stop feeling like punishment, and the exhausting inner war with yourself finally ends.

✨ Imagine no more daily debates about whether you’ll work out. No more tug-of-war over alcohol. No more believing that overeating somehow benefits you. That’s the power of strategy — a clear, realistic commitment to your larger purpose that makes the path to sustainable weight loss so much easier.

By the end of this episode, you’ll be able to:

  • Recognize the signs you’re stuck in tactical hell
  • Understand the difference between a tactician and a true strategist
  • See how a strategic commitment makes daily actions flow with ease
  • Ask yourself the key question: Am I living in tactical hell, or am I ready to step into strategy?

🎧 Listen in and discover how shifting your mindset from tactician to strategist is the missing piece to making weight loss sustainable — and finally reaching your goals.

  • The step-by-step “Permission Experiment” that helps you rebuild trust with food
  • How to work through your biggest fear: What if I gain weight?

82: Easy Summer Protocols To Help You Follow Through08 juil. 202500:25:04

In this episode, you’ll learn how to make the most of the 12 weeks between the summer solstice and autumn equinox by creating your own summer protocol. You’ll discover how to divide the season into intentional phases, design habits that reflect the energy of summer, and stay aligned with your goals while enjoying the unique rhythms and pleasures this season brings.

Whether you want to simplify your food prep, increase movement, reset your energy, or just feel more present—you’ll leave this episode with a simple but powerful framework to design your summer with purpose and freedom.

📝 Key Topics Covered

  • Why summer deserves its own protocol
  • What it means to live seasonally and plan intentionally
  • The 3 phases of summer and how to use them for momentum
  • Summer mindset shifts that support energy, presence, and joy
  • How to create seasonal structure without over-planning
  • 5 reflection questions to help you build your own custom summer protocol
  • How summer protocols help with weight loss, consistency, and lifestyle freedom

❓ This Week’s Coach Homework

Take 10 minutes and answer these five questions to build your own summer protocol:

  1. What do you want to experience this summer?
(Think: feelings, events, sensory pleasures, vibes.)
  2. What seasonal foods or movement routines are calling you?
(Let your body lead the way—notice what feels good.)
  3. What needs simplifying right now?
(Where are you overcomplicating food, movement, or scheduling?)
  4. What’s your recovery plan?
(How will you rest, regulate, or reset when summer gets chaotic?)
  5. What will make this summer feel like a success?
(Let your definition lead your planning.)

Your answers are the raw material of your protocol. Once you answer, pick 1–2 habits for each of these five areas:
✔️ Movement • ✔️ Food • ✔️ Sleep • ✔️ Recovery • ✔️ Mindset

🎯 Final Thoughts

A protocol is just a plan you’ve thought through. It’s not rigid—it’s responsive. Summer offers the perfect environment to lean into freedom, but freedom without a little structure often turns into exhaustion, distraction, or regret.

Creating your own summer protocol gives you the power to be flexible on purpose, so you can enjoy this season while also feeling proud of how you showed up.

73: Understanding How Chronic Stress, Cortisol, and Sugar Consumption Negatively Affect Your Weight Loss04 mars 202500:51:41

I’m excited to share some game-changing insights into how feeling stressed and the stress hormone cortisol can make or break your weight loss efforts—especially when it comes to stubborn belly fat during perimenopause and menopause.

In this episode, I’ll explain why your body needs cortisol to function but how chronic stress pushes it into overdrive, directing your body to store excess blood sugar as fat and wreaking havoc on everything from your sleep to your energy levels. You’ll learn to recognize how your daily stressors—like meetings, deadlines, or the “lion-chase” feeling you get under pressure—contribute to elevated cortisol and sometimes increased visceral fat.

We’ll dive into why it’s crucial to keep tabs on your stress responses, using simple tools like the Oura Ring for biometric insights. You’ll see how everyday choices about food—like leaning on processed sugar—can compound stress responses and make it harder for your body to manage blood sugar.

Next, I’ll walk you through practical tips to break the chronic stress cycle and support your weight goals. By the end of this podcast, you’ll understand exactly how to manage your stress triggers, positvely influence your body’s hormonal responses, and keep your health on track—even when life is chaotic.

Your Coach homework this week is to track your processed sugar intake for one week, then swap at least one sugary item with a whole-food alternative in the week that follows. I can’t wait to hear your progress, so be sure to connect with me on social media to share your wins and challenges. This week, we're tackling stress head-on so you can keep making progress with your goals.

72: How To Build Unbreakable Movement Habits18 févr. 202500:35:15

In this episode, we’re talking about how to create movement habits that stick—no matter how busy or unpredictable life gets. If you’ve struggled to stay consistent with exercise, this episode will show you how to overcome common obstacles and develop routines that align with your lifestyle and long-term health goals. You’ll walk away with practical, research-backed strategies to make movement an enjoyable and unbreakable part of your daily life.

What You’ll Learn Today:

  • Why movement habits are hard to maintain and how to overcome the challenges.
  • How habit loops and your environment can support consistency.
  • Simple, effective strategies to build movement routines that feel natural and rewarding.

We’ll explore the reasons movement habits often break down, like all-or-nothing thinking, relying on motivation, or starting with too much too fast. Then, I’ll introduce you to tools like BJ Fogg’s Tiny Habits method and the science of habit loops to help you build lasting routines.

You’ll also learn how to use environment design to make movement easier and more accessible. For example, placing your workout gear in plain sight or using apps to remind and reward you. We’ll discuss the importance of choosing activities you love—whether that’s dancing, walking, or gardening—and pairing them with existing habits to make them stick.

Coach Homework:

  1. Identify a small, achievable movement goal for the week (e.g., 5 minutes of walking, stretching, or yoga).
  2. Pair your new habit with an existing routine, like brushing your teeth or enjoying your morning coffee.
  3. Celebrate your success each time you complete your goal by marking it on a calendar or simply acknowledging, “Great job!”

Remember, consistency beats intensity every time. The goal is to create movement habits that fit your life, feel enjoyable, and are easy to maintain over the long haul.

71: When It’s Time To Stop Food Planning & What to Do Instead04 févr. 202500:45:05

If you’ve ever felt trapped by food planning or overwhelmed by the pressure to stick to your meal plans, this episode is for you. Today, we’re diving into why food planning might not be the best strategy for your long-term success and how to replace it with a more intuitive, sustainable approach. By the end of this episode, you’ll feel empowered to make confident food choices in the moment, build trust with your body, and find freedom in your eating habits.

We’ll start by exploring the signs that food planning is no longer serving you. Are you eating just because it’s “on the plan,” even when you’re not hungry? Or maybe the thought of planning leaves you anxious or guilty because you’re tired of trying to follow rigid rules. When food planning becomes restrictive, it disconnects you from your body’s natural cues and prevents you from learning how your eating habits affect your energy, hunger, and results. I’ll guide you through the transition to food logging, a flexible tool that builds awareness without the rigidity of planning.

You’ll learn practical strategies like using a two-column food log—one for what you expect to eat and one for what you actually ate—or letting go of expectations altogether and simply observing your habits. We’ll talk about planning for types of food rather than specific meals, how to set intentional “overeats” in advance, and why reflecting on your weekly patterns is the key to making lasting changes. By the end of the episode, you’ll understand how to use food awareness tools to create sustainable weight loss, not as a compliance tool that forces you into perfection.

Coach Homework:

  1. Reflect on your current relationship with food planning—does it empower you or restrict you?
  2. If it feels restrictive, commit to food logging for the next week instead. Decide which days you’ll try it and track your experiences.
  3. Mark your calendar for a review session at the end of the week to see how food logging works for you.

It’s time to step away from rigid plans and into a new way of eating that feels aligned, flexible, and supportive of your goals. Listen now and start creating the freedom and trust you deserve in your relationship with food!

70: Why Sleep Matters With Your Weight And How To Optimize It21 janv. 202500:35:23

Are you struggling to lose weight or maintain a healthy lifestyle despite doing all the right things? In this episode, we dive into an often-overlooked factor that could be holding you back: sleep. Drawing on insights from Dr. Casey Means’ book Good Energy, I unpack the science of how your sleep impacts your hormones, metabolism, and even your hunger cues. By the end of this episode, you’ll understand why quality sleep is a cornerstone of your weight regulation and health in general and how to optimize it.

You’ll learn why poor sleep sends your body into oxidative stress and disrupts your microbiome, leading to inflammation, insulin resistance, and even weight gain. We’ll explore the powerful role of circadian rhythms in regulating your metabolism and how exposing your eyes to natural light in the morning can reset your internal clock. I’ll also break down how sleep deprivation alters hunger hormones, driving you to overeat, and explain why aligning your meal timing with your body’s natural rhythms can improve your health and energy levels.

I’ll share actionable, research-backed strategies to help you optimize your sleep, from simple changes like blocking blue light and setting a consistent bedtime to more advanced tools like wearable trackers for monitoring your sleep quality. Your homework? Choose at least three of these strategies to try over the next two weeks. Whether it’s spending five minutes outdoors every morning, dimming lights in the evening, or moving your meals earlier in the day, these small changes can add up to big results for your health and weight.

This episode will empower you to take control of your sleep and, in turn, your health. By the end, you’ll know how to build better habits around rest and recovery and feel inspired to prioritize sleep as a key part of your weight-loss journey. Tune in and get ready to transform your nights—and your life.

Homework:

  1. Choose three sleep strategies to implement over the next two weeks.
  2. Track your sleep duration, REM, and deep sleep using a wearable device.
  3. Experiment with meal timing and light exposure to support your circadian rhythm.

69: Setting Integrative Weight Goals For 202507 janv. 202500:33:26

In this episode, I’m encouraging you to set smarter, more effective weight goals for 2025 by focusing on body composition—not just the number on the scale. You’ll learn why traditional weight loss strategies, especially for women over 40, can leave you weaker and less metabolically healthy.  You'll learn how to use a smart scale like InBody to accurately track your changes in body fat and skeletal muscle. you'll also learn why this data is critical for setting realistic, sustainable goals that set you up for long term vibrant health.

You’ll hear me debunk the myth that you can’t build muscle while losing fat. For those of you who are new to strength training—especially if you’re overweight or have been inactive—this can be a game-changer for you this year. We’ll also dive into how tracking different data on smart scales can be more motivating and enjoyable than chasing a number on an old fashioned scale.

To make these changes actionable, you'll learn how to create personalized health goals using a smart scale. Plus, I provide practical strategies for how to be successful losing fat and reatining or gaining skeletal muscle mass.

Your Coach Homework:

  1. After listening, commit to reviewing your body composition data by finding an in-body scale near you.

68: The Power of Reflection - Learning from 2024 Without Self-Criticism31 déc. 202400:30:26

In Episode 68 of *Love Life and Lose Weight*, we explore the transformative power of reflecting on your weight journey—without judgment. If you've ever struggled to assess your progress or felt stuck in a cycle of frustration, this episode is for you. You'll discover how a thoughtful, data-driven review of your past year can unlock valuable insights and set the stage for meaningful, personalized goals in 2025. This reflective approach empowers you to see the bigger picture and focus on what truly works for you.

**Uncover the Patterns in Your Weight Journey**
Many people fear looking back at their progress because it feels too tied to self-criticism. This episode shifts that perspective, showing how the scale, body composition changes, and your habits tell a more nuanced story than numbers alone. By identifying patterns—such as vacation habits, work stress, or restrictive eating cycles—you'll learn how to pinpoint what’s working and what might need adjusting. Reflection allows you to move past surface-level judgments and dig deeper into the "why" behind your journey.

**Practical Tools for Meaningful Progress**
This episode is a working session designed to set you up for success. You'll gather your weight data from the past year, note significant events, and analyze patterns without judgment. The goal? To identify your wins and challenges, then use that knowledge to create tailored strategies for the year ahead. By embracing self-compassion, you’ll replace self-criticism with actionable insights that drive real change.

**Coach Homework to Get Started**
1. Write down your weight for each month in 2024 (or up to 18 months).
2. Reflect on the events, habits, or circumstances that influenced your weight each month—without judgment.
3. Identify patterns of success and challenges. Where did you make progress? What areas need improvement?
4. Use this reflection to set specific, achievable goals for 2025, focusing on strategies that have worked well.
Approach this exercise with self-compassion, celebrating your progress while acknowledging areas for growth.

65: Embracing Change: How to Let Go and Move Forward19 nov. 202400:40:56

In Episode 65, I’m talking about embracing change—a fitting theme as we head into the end of the year and think about a new year of possibilities. Here’s what's covered:

  • Why We Resist Change: Our brains are wired for safety and routine, so when faced with change, the amygdala (our fear center) often triggers anxiety. This is a natural response, and understanding it can help us navigate transitions without judgment.
  • Reframing Change as Growth: Resisting change is normal, but growth often comes from discomfort. Looking back, we usually see that the challenging moments brought us the most progress. I reference Carol Dweck’s "Growth Mindset" to illustrate how embracing uncertainty can foster resilience.
  • Strategies for Managing Change: To support a growth mindset, I suggest:
    • Becoming aware of your thoughts around change
    • Practicing self-forgiveness and forgiveness of others
    • Using mindfulness to stay present
    • Setting intentional goals and using smart time management to focus on what you can control
  • Homework:
    • Identify and reframe any negative thoughts around change.
    • Set personal intentions for the future and make actionable plans.
    • Try a self-forgiveness exercise to let go of lingering guilt.

64: Three Tools To Break Free from Overwhelm, Over-Planning, and Overdoing05 nov. 202400:47:50

In this episode, I introduce three powerful tools to help you overcome overwhelm, overplanning, and overdoing. These tools are designed to make it easier for you to prioritize what truly matters to you including weight loss. There more you can do that, the better chance you have to reach ALL your goals.

In this episode you'll learn:

•How overwhelm affects your weight loss journey and why addressing it is critical
•How to use the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance
•Strategies to shift your mindset around time scarcity and regain control over your schedule and tasks
•Practical tips for time blocking and restraining your to-do list to 3 items daily.

Coach Homework:
1. Download the Eisenhower Matrix worksheet by visiting my instagram account @ThriveInMidlife and comment MATRIX on any of my posts, and I'll DM you the link to download.
2. Practice leveling up your thinking about time and agency to experiment with decreasing overwhelm. Find 10 power thoughts about your time and practice thinking them every day for at least two weeks.
3. Classify your current to-do list tasks into each of the four quadrants using the Eisenhower Matrix: urgent/important, important/not urgent, urgent/not important, and neither urgent nor important.
3. Schedule out the days and times of your Quadrant 1 and 2 tasks into your digital calendar. Practice following through and give yourself the gift of completion.
4. Time block recurring tasks into your calendar so you can take those tasks off your to-do list forever.
5. Use this system for 4-6 weeks to organize your tasks, prioritize what’s essential, and delegate or delete tasks that don’t move you toward your goals.
