Episode #164: Carolina Oliveira: Healthy Skin Aging, Cellular Senescence, and OneSkin18 Jul 202301:08:47

Our skin was designed to function as a barrier to protect our bodies from environmental stressors and pathogens, but unfortunately, our skin barrier is one of the main factors that is compromised as we age. Many of us are constantly looking for the next best thing to slow down and possibly even reverse these signs of skin aging, and my guest today is here to explain why focusing on products that work on the molecular level is the key to healthy aging.

I'm joined by Carolina Oliveira, the CEO and co-founder of OneSkin, to discuss everything you need to know about healthy aging in the skin. We cover cellular senescence, biological age, systemic inflammation, and the research being done at OneSkin to quantify these things. We also talk about some of the other factors that have an impact on skin health, and of course dive into the first peptide developed to reverse skin aging at the molecular level: OS-O1.

Carolina Oliveira is the CEO and co-founder of OneSkin. She holds a Ph.D. in stem cell biology and tissue engineering, is a co-inventor of 5 patents and co-author of numerous scientific publications. She relocated from Brazil to Silicon Valley in 2016 to found OneSkin, a fast-growing longevity company developing products to promote skin health by targeting aging at the molecular level. Carolina is an alumnus of IndieBio, the world's largest biotech accelerator and has been an active voice in the longevity field, pioneering age reversal skin research with OneSkin.

What we discuss:

[00:03:24] The skin barrier and why our skin becomes more fragile as we age

[00:08:30] Does nutrition have a big impact on skin health?

[00:16:05] The skin's biological age clock

[00:22:48] Does cellular senescence affect skin elasticity?

[00:28:07] Ingredients to avoid when looking for skincare

[00:35:37] How long does it take to see results from OneSkin products?

[00:43:22] How OneSkin products can potentially lower systemic inflammation

[00:50:09] The different concentration of OS-O1 in each product

Key Takeaways:

  • Cellular senescence is a process in which cells stop dividing after reaching their replication limit of around 50 times. These cells have accumulated various mutations that can lead to cancer if they continue to divide. Therefore, cellular senescence functions as a protective mechanism for the body. However, these senescent cells also secrete inflammatory signals that can cause neighboring cells to age faster.

  • When it comes to choosing skincare products, it is important to pay attention to the ingredients list. Some ingredients, like parabens and fragrance, can cause irritation or harm to the skin. Parabens are preservatives that have been linked to endocrine disruption, while fragrance can cause allergic reactions or sensitivity.  Websites like EWG can be a helpful resource for checking the safety of skincare products and their ingredients.

  • Advanced Glycation End-products (AGEs) are naturally occurring compounds that are formed when glucose reacts with proteins in the body. The accumulation of AGEs in the skin leads to the degradation of collagen and elastin fibers, which are responsible for keeping the skin firm and elastic.

Episode #163: Caleb Greer: The Therapeutic Benefits of Ketamine11 Jul 202301:06:34

The rise of ketamine therapy has been a hot topic in the world of medicine. For decades, ketamine has been used as an anesthetic in surgery and as a pain reliever. However, in recent years, it has gained attention as a potential treatment for depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. As the use of ketamine therapy continues to grow, more and more patients are finding relief from their mental health issues and an improved overall quality of life.

I'm joined by Caleb Greer, and we're diving into the world of ketamine therapy. We cover how exactly ketamine works and what people feel when using ketamine, plus how it can be used as an effective treatment for mental health issues. We also discuss the long-term effects of ketamine, how it can help inhibit pain, and the difference between ketamine and other well-known psychedelics.

What we discuss:

[00:02:01] The idea that drugs can be utilized for therapeutic purposes

[00:08:47] What do people feel when using ketamine?

[00:14:32] Using ketamine for chronic pain

[00:23:04] Ketamine can help people to see the fundamental sense of belonging

[00:31:20] Ketamine therapy can speed up the acknowledgment of changes

[00:39:04] Is ketamine addictive?

[00:51:52] How to access ketamine therapy

Key Takeaways:

  • Ketamine is a type of drug that is known to be dissociative. This means that it can cause a person to feel disconnected from the outside world, as if they are in their own world. Ketamine can also cause a person to experience a highly introspective state, where they are able to reflect on their thoughts and emotions in a deeper way than usual.

  • Ketamine is known to be anti-nociceptive, which means that it has the ability to block the signals that are responsible for registering pain in the brain. This means that ketamine can be used to effectively manage pain in patients who are experiencing acute or chronic pain.

  • Ketamine has been found to be particularly effective in addressing emotional dysregulation, which is a common symptom of various mental health conditions. By acknowledging and addressing this symptom, ketamine therapy can help people gain a better understanding of their emotions and learn how to regulate them more effectively.

Episode #162: Dr. Nick Bitz: Senescent Cells, Senolytics, and the Importance of Cellular Senescence04 Jul 202301:07:20

Did you know that by the age of 40-50, people have anywhere between 10 to 30% senescent cells in their tissues? Senescent cells are one of the hallmarks of aging, and can disrupt physiology throughout the body. Cellular senescence is the process by which cells permanently stop dividing but do not die off. These senescent cells linger inside the body and accumulate over time, affecting the healthy function of tissues and organs as we age.

I'm joined by Dr. Nick Bitz, and we're diving into everything you need to know about senescent cells and cellular senescence. We discuss why our bodies need some senescent cells, and some of the lifestyle changes we can make to support the body's ability to clear senescent cells. Plus, we answer the question: How young is too young to be worried about your senescent cells?

Dr. Nick Bitz is a Naturopathic Physician that specializes in Ayurvedic medicine. He is a leading voice in the natural products industry and currently serves as Senior VP of Product Development at Neurohacker Collective. His areas of expertise include nootropics, anti-aging medicine, biohacking, herbology, nutrition and dietary supplements.

What we discuss:

[00:04:18] Why our bodies need some senescent cells

[00:11:34] How young is too young to be worried about your senescent cells?

[00:19:18] Lifestyle changes to support the body's ability to clear senescent cells

[00:30:43] Optimizing health throughout the entire body

[00:40:53] Targeting different communities of senescent cells

[00:47:21] The importance of intermittent fasting

Key Takeaways:

  • 40 years old is the age where it is especially important to start taking steps to prevent senescent cells from accumulating in the body and causing age-related diseases, inflammation, weakened immune system, and cell damage.

  • Autophagy is the process by which cells break down and recycle their own components. Promoting autophagy can help reduce the formation of senescent cells, as it can help the body remove damaged cells and other debris that can accumulate and lead to cell senescence.

  • Senescent cells can accumulate in different tissues and organs, such as the skin, heart, and lungs, and can disrupt normal function. Therefore, it is important to address senescent cells in all tissues and organs to ensure optimal health.

[00:05:25] Why people stopped being able to meditate and do breathing exercises

[00:11:17] Stress, trauma, and PTSD

[00:51:38] The link between mental health and nature

[00:58:08] How Sensate works to improve the quality of your sleep

[01:07:07] The different use applications of Sensate

Key Takeaways:

  • The autonomic nervous system is responsible for regulating automatic bodily functions such as heartbeat, digestion, and respiration. It is deeply wired into our cells, body, and connective tissues, ensuring that all these functions happen without us being consciously aware of them.

  • Embracing discomfort and taking risks is key to transformation and development. By stepping outside of our comfort zone and exposing ourselves to "good stress", we can help build resilience and adaptability.

  • Humans are fundamentally tied to nature, and this is reflected in our nurture and survival responses. The human response to nature is complex and multifaceted, incorporating both physical and emotional elements. Our bodies are designed to respond to various environmental stimuli, both positive and negative, in order to ensure our survival.

Episode #160: Adam Wenguer: How to Enhance Your Focus, Improve Your Sleep Quality, and Reduce Inflammation With Full-Spectrum CBD27 Jun 202301:16:09
Did you know you can take CBD with your morning coffee?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Podcast, I chat with Adam Wenguer about the endocannabinoid system, which is a biological system composed of endocannabinoids, neurotransmitters, cannabinoid receptors, and receptor proteins.    Adam also shares the benefits of taking CBD both in the morning and the evening. While most of us are aware of the benefits we get from taking CBD to get into a parasympathetic state for better sleep, it works wonderfully to help enhance your focus and cognitive function in the morning.   Adam Wenguer is the founder and CEO of Element Health, producer of the most potent full-spectrum CBD on the market. He has a vast knowledge of the medicinal use of CBD/cannabinoids for human optimization and is an expert on the Endocannabinoid system. With a background in applied physiology, kinesiology, and human performance, Adam has over 20 years of experience working with professional athletes, company executives, and other high performers seeking to maximize their physical and mental capabilities.      Thank you to our sponsors for making this episode possible:   To Purchase any products from Element Health use code NAT15 to save 15% at https://elementhealthsupply.com/   Use code NAT10 for 10% off your order at https://www.timelinenutrition.com/shop/nutrition.   Go to www.DrinkLMNT.com/NAT to get 8 FREE single-serving packets with your order.   Go to https://oxfordhealthspan.com/en-ca and use code BIONAT15 for a discount.     Find more about Nathalie:   YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmholC48MqRC50UffIZOMOQ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/biohackingsuperhumanperformance Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nathalieniddam/ Website: NatNiddam.com Join Nat's Membership Community: https://www.natniddam.com/bsp-community Learn more about the 2023 Women's Longevity & Resilience Retreat: https://www.natniddam.com/longevity-resilience     Find more from Adam:   Website: Use code NAT15 to save at https://elementhealthsupply.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elementhealth/      What we discuss:   00:00:46: About Adam's addiction journey 00:08:16: What is the endocannabinoid system?  00:13:18: What is CBD? 00:14:28: How does CBD reduce inflammation? 00:17:42: Why aren't we in tune with our natural state anymore? 00:19:22: What should people look for in CBD products? 00:25:25: What is the beauty of full spectrum CBD? 00:30:09: What's the issue with CBD gummies? 00:32:31: Can CBD be used in the morning? 00:34:00: How can CBD help at night? 00:35:15: Can you use less CBD and still get the same effect? 00:41:52: How does topical CBD help with inflammation? 00:48:23: What type of supplements should you avoid stacking with CBD? 00:55:03: What does Adam think of biohacking? 01:00:09: How does your personality impact your healing ability?     Key Takeaways:
  • We all know that less is more, and that couldn't be more true when it comes to CBD. The goal with CBD is not to infinitely increase your dosage, but to reach a point where you need less of it. See, CBD has a thing called reverse tolerance where over time you you will need less of it to feel the same great results. This is due to CBD not directly binding to the receptors in the ECS. Instead, CBD is involved in communicating how to regulate various responses in the body. So once you've reached a peak in the optimization of whatever it is you're trying to improve with CBD, then your body may slowly need less of that CBD to keep up the same good work.

  • Newsflash: CBD can be used all day long — and not only as a sedative at night. The key to reaping most of its benefits is to take the right dose at the right time, depending on the effect you want to have. So if you want to feel focused without the jitters often associated with caffeine, a small amount of CBD in the morning should help. But if you want to slip into a parasympathetic state, then taking CBD is the way to go.

  • The quality of the CBD you intake is just as important - if not more - than the dosage you take in. You need to do your research to find out what the farming, manufacturing, and overall commercialization process is like for the CBD brands you buy from. You need to be intentional about what you put in your body.
Episode #159: Susan Bratton: The Ultimate Sexual Biohacking Protocol For Better Intimacy20 Jun 202301:06:46
Do you feel like your sex life took a hit as you grew older?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Podcast, I chat with Susan Bratton about sexual biohacking. Most women tend to let their sex lives die off as they grow older, especially if their body changes in ways where sex just doesn't happen to feel the same way that it used to. • One of the most common complaints women make once they reach menopause is that nothing feels good when it comes to love-making. The reason? They just can't get aroused like they used to. Given that your vagina is a muscle and not a gland, it can't lubricate itself without blood flow. Your vaginal tissue requires blood flow to seep through the layers of its tissue to wet the lining. But over time, as women reach menopause, the tissue thins out and tends to dry up. Thus, the importance of doing the work to bring blood flow back to your pelvic bowl - especially as you get older.

  • The #1 reason why women don't enjoy sex is that they're engaging in intercourse BEFORE their bodies are properly prepared for it! See, men tend to be aroused very quickly and are ready for intercourse within a few minutes of foreplay. On the other hand, women need an average of 20 to 30 minutes of consistent stimulation to be fully aroused. As a result, this makes sex less enjoyable as women engage in intercourse BEFORE enough time has gone by to ensure adequate blood flow has made its way toward their vaginal tissue - which would properly lubricate their vagina. And as women get older and the vaginal tissue thins out, it takes even more time to get aroused - making intercourse more painful than it used to be if they rush it.

  • Most women have been having sex like a dude most of their lives if not all of their lives. While it's something that women don't realize early on in their sex life, it becomes a lot more apparent after menopause when their bodies change.
Episode #158: Hannah Went: How to Turn Back The Clock On Biological Aging13 Jun 202301:10:34
Would you want to know when you are going to die?   In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Hannah Went, Director of Operations at TruDiagnostic, about the stories certain biomarkers can tell about our present health and our future health. From predictors of lifespan to predictors of diseases, there is a large array of biomarkers we can target to help identify a patient's biological age.    Hannah also shares what lifestyle changes someone can implement to increase their longevity and reverse the clock on their biological age so that it either equals or underpasses a person's chronological age. From limiting alcohol consumption to caloric restriction, there is a multitude of lifestyle changes one can make to increase their lifespan.    Hannah Went has a lifelong passion for longevity and breakthrough, disruptive technologies that drive radical improvement to the human condition. She attended the University of Kentucky and graduated with a degree in Biology. After graduation, she worked for the International Peptide Society as their Director of Research and Content. • Three different types of clocks examine biomarkers in terms of longevity: first-generation clocks, second-generation clocks, and third-generation clocks. They all examine different values that are indicative of longevity. Right now, the most precise clock is the third-generation clock as it is trained on direct biomarkers of health and disease, such as grip strength in people, aging-related brain shrinkage, dental health, lung function, and more.

  • Most of us have a biological age that is more advanced than our chronological age. While some factors influencing this premature aging can't be changed, our biological age is heavily influenced by our lifestyle. Alcohol consumption, tobacco usage, sleeping patterns, stress management, and exercise are some of the few lifestyle aspects that can reduce our lifespan.
Episode #157: Joy Kong, MD: The Healing Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy for Immune System Disorders, Cancer, and Cardiovascular Disease06 Jun 202301:21:42
Did you know that stem cell therapy can be used as a preventative measure?    In this episode of the Biohacking Superhuman Performance podcast, I chat with Joy Kong, MD, about stem cell therapy. Stem cell therapy is a medical procedure that involves the use of stem cells to prevent, and address various diseases and conditions. Stem cells are unique cells that can differentiate into different types of cells in the body and can also self-renew to produce more stem cells.   Dr. Kong explains the different sources of stem cells they can pull from, such as the bone marrow, the fat tissue, and even from birth tissues. Depending on where the cells are sourced from, each source of stem cells has its advantages and disadvantages. We also chat about how stem cells differentiate from exosomes, the future of stem cell therapy, and what the research is saying about stem cell therapy for autism.   Joy Kong, M.D. is a UCLA-trained, triple-board-certified physician. She is the president of Uplyft Longevity Center in Los Angeles, California, where she specializes in stem cell therapy, and ketamine therapy, as well as a wide range of therapeutic modalities to improve patients' overall health by enhancing their body's innate regenerative potentials. Dr. Kong is the founder of the American Academy of Integrative Cell Therapy (www.aaict.org), where she provides training to physicians on stem cell therapy. Dr. Kong also conducts clinical research on stem cell therapy and is a published author in scientific journals.      Thank you to our sponsors for making this episode possible:   CharaOmni: Visit charaomni.com and try out their Stem Cell Face Cream and use code NAT10 for a 10% off your purchase   Berkeley Life: Consumers may register and place an order using my code NIDDBL for 10% off at berkeleylife.com   Sensate:  Go to getsensate.com ad use code NAT to save 10% off your purchase of the Sensate - an ultrasound resonance device that can improve Sleep, HRV and stress response.   Profound Health: Profound-Health is my first choice for oral and sublingual Bioregulator Peptides - the Nature's Marvel Brand are oral Khavinson Bioregulators repackaged for the English speaking market. What we discuss:

[00:07:08] A bioregulator peptide is an epigenetic switch

[00:09:03] Who discovered bioregulators?

[00:11:55] Other than our own bodies, where else can we get bioregulators from?

[00:13:31] Taking extracts from tissues, glands, and organs to isolate bioregulator peptides

[00:17:31] The three different forms of bioregulator peptides

[00:21:54] How safe are bioregulator peptides?

[00:22:45] What are some of the organ systems that bioregulators address?

[00:25:34] Why bioregulators are often used in conjunction with conventional therapy

[00:26:35] Why bioregulators don't need to be used indefinitely

Key Takeaways:

  • Bioregulator peptides are molecules that can act as epigenetic switches, meaning they can modify gene expression without altering the genetic code itself. By selectively turning on or off certain genes, bioregulator peptides can help regulate a variety of biological processes, from inflammation and immune response to tissue repair and regeneration.

  • There are currently 21 bioregulator peptides that address many different organ systems and can be used to improve your overall health. These peptides are derived from various sources, including plant and animal tissues, and work by signaling cells to perform specific functions.

  • In many cases, bioregulators are used to enhance the effects of other forms of treatment. For example, they may be used alongside medication or physical therapy to help improve overall health and well-being. By using bioregulators in combination with conventional therapy, patients may be able to experience greater symptom relief and faster healing times.

Episode #155: James Barry: Pluck Seasonings and The Importance of Organ Meats30 May 202301:21:42

You may have already heard how important organ meats are when it comes to health optimization, but many people still shy away from the idea of consuming these organ meats in place of a steak.

But the truth is that the nutrients found in organ meats play a crucial role in supporting immune function, brain health, and energy metabolism, and my guest today is here to share why we should all be incorporating these nutrient-rich organs into our diet.

I'm joined by James Barry, the founder of Pluck seasonings, to discuss the many benefits of eating organ meats. We discuss why as a society we have moved away from eating organ meats, and the perception that certain foods are healthier than others. James also explains why he decided to start making Pluck seasonings, and how these organ meat seasonings compare to eating the real thing.

James Barry's 17 + years in the culinary field started as a private chef cooking for celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Mariska Hargitay, George Clooney, Gerard Butler, Sean "Puffy" Combs, Barbra Streisand, and John Cusack. Most recently, James launched his first functional food product, Pluck, an organ-based seasoning. It's the first of its kind and an amazingly easy and delicious way for people to get organ meats into their diet.

James is also a published cookbook author having co-authored the recipes in Margaret Floyd's book Eat Naked and co-authored the follow-up cookbook The Naked Foods Cookbook. He most recently co- authored the recipes in Dr. Alejandro Junger's book, Clean 7.

What we discuss:

00:07:19: It's easier to find organ meats when you buy your food online

00:11:38: The myths about eating liver

00:17:17: What is it about organs that makes them so nutrient dense?

00:22:55: Why certain organs are off the market

00:31:41: When did James decide to start making Pluck seasonings?

00:38:12: The perception that certain foods are healthier than others

00:47:03: Why it's healthier to cook rather than eat out

00:52:53: What are the best fats to cook with?

01:03:16: What percentage of organs do Pluck seasonings have?

01:10:58: What flavors of Pluck seasonings are available right now?

Key Takeaways:

  • One of the biggest myths about eating liver is that it holds a lot of toxins, making it dangerous for us to eat. While it is true that the liver acts as a filter for toxins within the body, it does not store toxins in large quantities. Instead, the liver converts potential toxins into less harmful substances or eliminates them altogether.

  • Organs are often considered to be the most nutrient-dense foods because they are rich in a variety of essential vitamins and minerals that are not found in muscle meat. This is largely due to the fact that organs have distinct physiological functions, and as a result, they contain unique nutrient profiles.

  • It's often healthier to cook at home than to eat out because you have control over the ingredients and cooking methods used in your food. When you cook at home, you can choose fresh and wholesome ingredients to make your meals, avoiding processed foods and excessive amounts of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats.

Did you know there is a connection between spirituality, a balanced nervous system and longevity? When it comes to biohacking, we focus primarily on the supplements we can take, the peptides we can use, and the different  technology we can implement into our daily life. But, what many of us forget, is that our mental wellbeing plays a huge role in our health. We can do all the biohacks we want, but if our mental health is not balanced, we'll struggle to optimize our health and longevity…plus, the brain-gut connection is a real thing!

My guest today is here to discuss why there's more to the pursuit of longevity than just biohacks and supplements.

I'm joined by Danielle LaPorte, and we're diving into the spiritual side of longevity and covering the corollary between the spiritual striving and the physical striving. We also discuss why a person's health history can be the key to healing, things you can do to eliminate any obstacles within your body, and how to balance your sympathetic nervous system with your parasympathetic nervous system.

Danielle LaPorte is a member of Oprah's SuperSoul 100 a group who, in Oprah Winfrey's words, "is uniquely connecting the world together with a spiritual energy that matters." Danielle is the creator of the Heart Centered Membership and the Heart Centered Leadership Program with 400+ leaders in 30 countries hosting conversation circles, retreats, and workshops in all kinds of communities and businesses.

What we discuss:

00:03:18: The light side and the shadow side of our obsession and pursuit of longevity

00:09:43: The corollary between the spiritual striving and the physical striving

00:14:36: The metaphors of the body

00:19:24: The correlation between pain and fear

00:26:01: The misperception that spiritual people are healthy all the time

00:35:16: Why going through a person's health history can be the key to healing

00:41:19: Why your entire life needs to revolve around regulating your nervous system

00:49:35: When we start to think differently, we will attract the right kind of healthcare providers

Episode #153: Leslie Kenny: The Hallmarks of Aging and Polyamines16 May 202301:14:04

While you may be familiar with the nine hallmarks of aging, over the past several years there have been an additional five added to that list. It might seem overwhelming to have 14 aging processes to keep up with, but it's important to understand that many of them, if not all of them, are essentially interrelated.

One thing we've learned about these processes that drive aging are that they are done at a cellular and systemic level. This gives us the opportunity to try and intercept and correct them so that we can live longer, healthier lives.

I'm joined by Leslie Kenny, Founder of Oxford Healthspan and Co-Founder of the Oxford Longevity Project. We're talking all about the hallmarks of aging, including how the processes are interconnected, and what we can do to slow these processes down. We also dive into polyamines, specifically spermidine, and how it can boost autophagy.

Leslie Kenny is an autoimmune survivor/thriver, certified health coach and Founder and CEO of Oxford Healthspan, bringing to consumers the latest scientifically based molecules proven to slow aging.

She is also the Co-Founder of the non-profit Oxford Longevity Project which aims to bring the latest scientific breakthroughs on healthy aging to the general public. Leslie holds degrees from Berkeley and Harvard.

What we discuss:

00:01:38 - The symposiums and organizations Leslie is connected to

00:11:21 - The first nine hallmarks of aging

00:15:25 - Inflammation, gut dysbiosis, and autophagy

00:22:22 - The effects of fasting on the body

00:30:09 - The dysregulated RNA process

00:36:03 - What are polyamines?

00:44:42 - How do people get polyamines into their diet?

00:51:40 - Synthetics vs. food derived

00:57:17 - The benefits of spermidine supplements

Key Takeaways:

  • Polyamines are derived from amino acids, and they play a role in slowing down the process of aging. The most well known polyamine is spermidine, and it helps to boost autophagy.

  • There are many other molecules in foods and whole food sources, so it is important to consume nutrients through eating whole foods.

  • The body is able to regenerate and self renew itself if we're able to remove the obstacles and facilitate those processes.

  • Leslie's top suggestions for longevity include eating intentionally, joyful movement, sleep, and early morning sunlight.

Episode #151: Dr. Bill Harris: Fatty Acids and The Omega-3 Index02 May 202301:23:00

I'm joined by Dr. Bill Harris, PhD, FASN, President of the Fatty Acid Research Institute and Founder of OmegaQuant Analytics. We're diving into omega-6s and omega-3s and discussing the benefits of these fatty acids and where they come from. We also cover the importance of maintaining a ratio of omega-6 and omega-3, and whether or not omega-3s have an effect on blood clotting and blood circulation.

Dr. Harris has been a leading researcher in the omega-3 fatty acid field for over 40 years. He has more than 300 scientific papers on fatty acids and health, the vast majority on omega-3. He has been on the faculty of three medical schools (Universities of Kansas, Missouri (at Kansas City), and South Dakota), and has received 5 NIH grants to study omega-3. He was the co-author on three AHA statements on fatty acids and heart health. As the co-inventor of the Omega-3 Index (and other omega-3 blood tests) and founder of OmegaQuant Analytics, Dr. Harris has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide based on the impact of his research.

What we discuss:

00:02:38 - Omega-3s and their effects on blood clotting and blood circulation

00:07:23 - The value of omega-6

00:11:54 - The ratio of omega-6 and omega-3

00:18:03 - Where do arachidonic acid and linoleic acid come from, and what do they do?

00:25:22 - The components of omega-3s

00:31:04 - EPA and DHA

00:41:35 - Is there a relationship between omega-6 and omega-3 levels and longevity?

00:46:31 - Fish as a source of omega-3

00:57:21 - Mammalian sourced omega-3s

01:06:35 - 3 things to keep in mind about omega-3s and omega-6s

Key Takeaways:

  • Looking at levels of omega-6 fatty acids in the blood can predict future diseases like heart disease and diabetes.

  • Increasing your levels of omega-3 is more important than worrying about getting your omega-6 levels down in order to have a good ratio between the two.

  • It's important to measure your omega-3 levels. These levels are predictive of good health outcomes and even cholesterol levels.

Episode #150: The Basics of Peptides27 Apr 202300:34:07

You've probably heard about peptides, and you may be wondering, "What are peptides? Why do I need to know about them?" At the end of this episode, you'll have the answers to these questions, plus so much more.

We're diving into the basics of peptides, and I'm going to answer some very commonly asked questions about both peptides and bioregulators. We're covering everything from the most important things to remember about peptides, to the different ways peptides can be administered. If you want to learn how peptides work, the benefits of BPC-157, and why most peptides are not FDA approved, you'll want to tune into this episode.

What we discuss:

00:03:34: What are peptides?

00:04:26 Insulin is a very well known peptide

00:05:33: Why most peptides are not FDA approved

00:07:49: Why there's not a lot of information about peptides in healthcare

00:09:35: How do peptides work?

00:11:20: The benefits of BPC-157

00:14:14: Using peptides topically

00:17:49: Important things to remember about peptides

00:20:07: The importance of getting peptides from a trusted supplier

00:21:27: Bioregulator peptides

00:23:59: Why bioregulators are highly bio-available orally

00:29:51: Where to find bioregulator peptide supplements

Key Takeaways:

  • Bioregulator peptides have been shown to help to extend human life, to reverse biological age and to restore function.

  • When you have a string of amino acids that's either 50 amino acids or less, that is automatically called a peptide.

  • The most common way that peptides are introduced into the body is by subcutaneous injection.

  • Copper peptides are very powerful when used topically, which is why a lot of beauty products incorporate copper peptides.

Episode #149: Karen Martel: Hormones, Longevity, and Vitality25 Apr 202301:16:18

Have you ever struggled with weight loss and thought to yourself, "I'm doing everything right…I have a healthy diet, I'm exercising, but the weight just won't come off"? You're not alone, and today we're discussing how your hormones could be impacting not only your weight loss, but many other aspects of your life.

I'm joined by Karen Martel, a Certified Hormone Specialist & Transformational Nutrition Coach and women's weight loss expert. We're diving into the world of hormones, specifically how hormone imbalances can play a major role in weight loss, insomnia, depression, and some diseases. Karen also shares how she is an advocate for women taking charge of their hormones as they move through different stages of life.

Karen is the host of the top 100 rated women's health podcast The Other Side of Weight Loss where she helps women to unlock the mysteries of female fat loss and hormone imbalance.

After struggling with her own health issues, Karen was determined to bring her knowledge to others with a bold new approach to women's hormone health and weight management. Karen's passion lies in helping women balance and optimize their hormones in peri and post menopause and breakthrough weight loss resistance.

What we discuss:

00:01:55 - How Karen got into the hormone space

00:10:54 - Why perimenopause is happening earlier

00:15:48 - How toxins are affecting hormones

00:19:15 - Birth control and the studies on progestin

00:25:50 - How the loss of hormones drives breast cancer

00:29:10 - Estrogen in the brain

00:37:20 - How estrogen is partly responsible for the production of serotonin and dopamine

00:45:45 - Ways to help treat severe PMS

00:53:01 - Why estradiol is so important

00:59:47 - How hormones and peptides go hand in hand for anti-aging

Key Takeaways:

  • There are a lot of chemicals in our environment that mimic hormones, and they are a lot stronger than your own actual hormones. It is important to try and clean up your immediate environment from all the toxic chemicals to prevent your body from running on these fake chemical hormones.

  • The loss of hormones drives almost every disease that is dangerous to women, especially breast cancer.

  • In the second half of your cycle when you start to produce progesterone, some women get severe PMS, which is also known as Premenstrual Dysphoric disorder (PMDD). The symptoms can include increased anxiety and severe depression.

Episode #148: Kyal Van Der Leest: Liver Health, Gut Health, and Detoxification18 Apr 202301:19:28

If we look back at the last 200 years, we can see that human evolution was not designed to deal with the drugs, chemicals, and pollutants that are part of the modern day world. This is why it is so important to support liver health for our overall well-being.

The liver is basically our processing plant for toxins. And it all comes back to gut health - when we have negative bacteria in our gut, that directly affects our liver detoxification pathways.

I'm joined by Kyal Van Der Leest, founder of LVLUP Health. We're discussing everything you need to know about how to optimize your liver health, and how it connects to the health of your gut. We also dive into the skin issues that can arise from the body releasing toxins, and how if your detox pathways aren't optimized, your skin is ultimately not going to look as good as it could.

Kyal Van Der Leest is a nutritionist, naturopath, and functional health coach turned formulator who now runs LVLUP Health. He founded LVLUP Health to create powerful cutting edge supplement tools that people could use to improve their health using the unique formulations that combine orally bioavailable peptides with naturopathic botanicals and nutritional supplement ingredients.

What we discuss:

00:02:29 - Why all health begins in the gut

00:04:35 - The different phases of detoxification

00:11:25 - Are detox products beneficial?

00:19:58 - The Complete Liver Complex

00:26:24 - How TUDCA works

00:33:29 - How releasing toxins can result in skin issues

00:40:44 - How AHK supports the culture networks of the skin

00:44:00 - Botox-like peptides

00:50:21 - How Botox can have an effect on your liver

01:02:28 - How the peptide Svetinorm is beneficial for the liver

Key Takeaways:

  • Svetinorm is a bio-regulator peptide that has beneficial effects on the liver, such as supporting protein synthesis.

  • When we have negative bacteria in our gut, that directly affects our liver detoxification pathways. By focusing on optimizing the health of our gut, we can lift some of the burden being put on our liver, and help support the detoxification process.

  • By supporting gut health, you will indirectly support skin health, too. If you don't have the inflammation from the gut, then you're less likely to be inflamed in the skin.

Did you know that the health of your microbiome affects your mental health, metabolism, and immune system? There's really no part of your body that's not affected by your microbiome health.

I'm joined by Awais Spall, certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. We're discussing how he combines Ayurveda, Functional Medicine, and peptides to create a protocol that helps optimize the health of the microbiome. If you're new to the system of Ayurveda, you'll want to tune in as we deep dive into the definition of Ayurveda and the three doshas it consists of.

Awais Spall FDN-P is a Functional Medicine practitioner based out of Santa Monica, CA. Prior to becoming a health practitioner, Awais worked as a formulation chemist for various cannabis companies. As a product formulator, Awais combined his knowledge of formulation chemistry with his background in Ayurvedic Herbalism. Awais has inherited much of his knowledge around Ayurveda from his grandfather, who was a renowned herbalist in Pakistan.

In his practice at Integrative Oasis, Awais combines the cutting edge science of Functional Medicine with Ayurveda to address various gut health issues.

What we discuss:

00:01:01 - What brought Awais to combine Ayurveda, Functional Medicine, and peptides

00:03:44 - The definition of Ayurveda

00:05:35 - The three elements of Ayurveda

00:09:51 - Microbiome medicine

00:13:48 - The microbiome and probiotics

00:18:22 - How nutrition is part of the microbiome

00:25:56 - Tests for helping people with their microbiome medicine

00:32:16 - What would a microbiome medicine protocol look like?

00:37:02 - The different forms lymphatic drainage

00:43:52 - How peptides fit into Integrative Oasis

00:52:07 - How people could be using peptides wrong

00:57:34 - The art of microbiome medicine

Key Takeaways:

  • The word Ayurveda is a conjugation of two words: 'ayus', meaning 'life' and 'veda', meaning 'science'. Ayurveda is defined as the science of how to live your life, and your mind, body, and spirit play a role in Ayurveda.

  • The three doshas of Ayurveda are vata, kapha, and pitta. It is possible to be a combination of two or even all three of these doshas, and there are tests to determine which one a person is.

  • Part of optimizing your microbiome health is reconditioning the gut by strategically weeding things out, and then taking probiotics appropriately.

Episode #146: Ari Whitten, M.S.: The Blueprint to Optimizing Your Mitochondria04 Apr 202301:24:46

We've all heard mitochondria described as "the powerhouse of the cell". But what we know now is that mitochondria have a second role beyond being energy generators, and are of central importance in human physiology.

Today we're discussing everything you need to know about mitochondria, specifically how the story of energy and the story of aging are very much centered around the health of our mitochondria.

I'm joined by Ari Whitten, M.S., the founder of The Energy Blueprint. We take a deep dive into how mitochondria work, including the second role they play as environmental sensors. If you struggle with chronic fatigue, you'll want to tune in to learn how mitochondria is impacting your energy levels, and what you can do about it.

Ari Whitten, M.S. is the best-selling author of The Ultimate Guide To Red Light Therapy, and Eat For Energy: How To Beat Fatigue, and Supercharge Your Mitochondria For All-Day Energy. He has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist and Performance Enhancement Specialist, has completed extensive graduate training in Clinical Psychology, and holds a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine.

What we discuss:

00:02:46 - How to start with supporting your mitochondria

00:11:28 - How mitochondria can impact your energy levels

00:18:27 - Why losing mitochondria is not a natural product of aging

00:22:22 - Ways to maintain mitochondria

00:25:20 - Melatonin production

00:30:06 - Light exposure and melatonin production

00:41:33 - Supporting your mitochondria at the foundational level

00:47:57 - EMF sensitivity

00:56:04 - The blueprint to optimizing your mitochondria

01:02:49 - The most powerful supplements for optimizing your mitochondria

Key Takeaways:

  • All the things that boost our mitochondrial capacity for energy production are also going to translate into increased longevity and resistance to disease.

  • The loss of mitochondria is not a natural product of aging, but is the result of modern lifestyles. Challenging your mitochondria by living a more active lifestyle will help support and rebuild your mitochondrial networks as you get older.

  • Mitochondria have a second role beyond their role as energy generators, and that is as environmental sensors. Not only are the mitochondria actually producing energy, they are making the decision on whether or not to produce that energy.

Terry has a career as an inspirational speaker, author and entrepreneur.

 What we discuss:

00:02:44 How Vitali Restoracell was started

00:07:39 What is the copper peptide?

00:14:03 How copper peptides can help fade scars

00:18:42 Is there a relationship between copper peptides and our own body stem cells?

00:28:33 Other key ingredients included in Vitali Restoracell products

00:31:21 How copper peptides act on DNA

00:41:13 What's the concentration of copper peptides in Vitali Restoracell products?

00:48:43 The main benefits of copper peptides for skin

Key Takeaways:

  • According to Dr Turner, GHKCu (known as the copper peptide) could well be a Bioregulator as so they work by binding to DNA and turning on or turning off the genes that are related to youthfulness.

  • When you are injured, your body sends out signals that there's damage to be repaired. Copper peptides help make your stem cells more likely to produce the growth factors that are needed to repair the damage of those cells.

  • Using copper peptides consistently for long periods of time can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and repair the surface of the skin.

My guest this week is Steven Munatones, CEO & Co-founder of KAATSU Global, Inc. In this episode, Steven and I discuss how KAATSU differs from other blood flow restriction products, how KAATSU can be effective for pain management, and the benefits of using KAATSU to increase athletic performance. We also get a little deeper into some of the protocols, and discuss different use cases.

Steven Munatones has launched new products, services and technologies in the U.S. over the last 20 years. At TOTO Frontier, he licensed TOTO's sanitary ware technologies outside of Japan. At RealLiveSports, he designed and marketed the ESPN Play by Play, a 2006 Toy of the Year. At Aruze Gaming America, he launched hybrid slot machine reel technology in the gaming industry. The Harvard graduate and certified KAATSU Master Instructor co-founded KAATSU Global with Dr. Sato, the Japanese inventor of KAATSU, to introduce next-generation KAATSU equipment.

Learn more about KAATSU devices and protocols at https://kaatsu.com/ and use discount code 1NAT0 for 10% off!

What we discuss:

00:01:02 The distinction between KAATSU and other blood flow restriction products

00:07:53 The origins of KAATSU

00:11:47 The body's hormonal response to blood flow restriction

00:19:21 How KAATSU is supporting brain health

00:22:22 Why amputees can benefit from using KAATSU

00:32:07 Using KAATSU to manage arthritis and joint pain

00:40:48 The benefits of using KAATSU for athletic performance

00:58:57 How KAATSU can help build muscle mass

01:03:04 The best place for people to go for different types of protocols

Key Takeaways:

  • KATSUU is a Japanese word made out of two characters: "additional" and "pressure". While we refer to these devices as "blood flow restriction" devices, the goal of KAATSU is to provide additional pressure to allow blood to flow into the small areas in your capillaries normally, and then slow it down temporarily.

  • There are several different ways you can use KAATSU to improve performance, including using it for warm up, for peak performance, and in the constant mode. Each of those applications has a different impact on your physiology.

  • Since most of the hormonal release of the human body happens while we're asleep, using a very light application of KAATSU can help you fall into REM sleep quicker.

Episode #142: Stem Cells & Other Cutting Edge Modalities14 Mar 202301:18:40

My guest this week is Dr. Rand McClain of Regenerative and Sports Medicine.

In this episode, Dr. Rand McClain and I discuss stem cells, epigenetics, blood sugar and regenerative medicine as a whole. Dr. Rand shares some patient stories of reversal of arthritis and even MS symptoms in people. We discuss the cutting edge modalities you may have been wondering about or even heard multiple contradictory viewpoints on and he sets the record straight.

Though nutrition and wellness have been ingrained in Dr. Rand McClain since childhood, his journey to becoming a leader in alternative and progressive medical treatments has been anything but orthodox. From being the youngest senior account manager in Deloitte's history, to his stint as a professional boxer in Argentina, to being accepted to medical school at age 37 after being repeatedly told it was impossible, Dr. Rand has never been a fan of the "status quo".

Dr. Rand's patients (many of which are A-List celebrities and world-class athletes) come to his practice, Regenerative and Sports Medicine, in search of the innovative treatments he specializes in. From bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), hyperbaric oxygen therapy to cryotherapy, Dr. Rand has dedicated the past 35 years to redefining what it means to be in optimal health.

Episode #141: Jim Law & Jim Girard: Optimizing Health through Light, Voltage, PEMF's, Frequencies and Harmonics07 Mar 202301:18:48

My guest this week is Jim Law - CEO, Co-Founder of BioCharger & Jim Girard - Inventor and Head of Research & Development of BioCharger.

In this episode, Jim Law, Jim Girard and I discuss the BioCharger. BioCharger is a health optimization platform designed to transmit energy that stimulates and invigorates the body to optimize and improve potential health, wellness, and athletic performance. It does this by using light, voltage, PEMF's, frequencies and harmonics. The BioCharger truly is the only health optimization platform of its kind. I was lucky enough to experience the BioCharger at the Upgraded Labs Conference and it really is a one of a kind experience. I found not only myself, but others flocking to it like moths to a flame.

Jim Law has served as a managing member of Advanced Biotechnologies, LLC since co-founding the firm in 2013. With a focus on strategy and business development, Jim's entrepreneurial track record includes founding/co-founding two prior start-ups that implemented innovative and disruptive technology based solutions that changed the way their respective industries did business.

Both firms were sold to public companies (Siemens and Comfort Systems USA) and were successfully integrated into these firms' product and service offerings.

Prior to starting his own businesses, Jim held executive positions in the technology world at companies such as Apple Computer and NeXT. Jim is married with 4 children and living in Orleans, MA.

Jim Girad brings more than 25 years of subtle energy research and development experience to the team, which led to the introduction of the original BioCharger concept in 1993. In 1988, Jim was privileged to have studied under Dr. Orville Fitz, a protégé of Nikola Tesla which led to Jim's experimentation with Tesla coil and multiple wave oscillation (MWO) technologies.

He then experimented with combining various noble and Inert gas filled tubes to incorporate the visible light spectrum, and applied the concept of pulsing frequencies from Rife and Lakhovsky to form a unique and hybrid subtle energy platform.

In a few short years, his company Advanced Technology Concepts (ATC) had accomplished what no others previously had by discovering how to unlock the benefits of multiple subtle energies simultaneously and wirelessly.Advanced Biotechnologies, LLC acquired ATC in 2013 and Jim is a now a lead on the BioCharger NG product development team.

What is Discussed:

[09:00] The start of BioCharger…

[14:00] How Jim Law got involved with Jim Girard…

[19:27] What is the Biocharger and how does it work?..

[34:50] The importance of vibration…

[38:45] Is the BioCharger comparable to multiple devices in one?..

[48:20] Do different tissues respond to different frequencies?..

[56:10] BioCharger and inflammation…

[60:10] Collecting data on the biocharger and how it affects the body…

Favorite Quotes:

Six in ten adults have some form of chronic disease.

The only way our body can heal, recover, repair itself is regeneration.

Episode #140: Amy Jaramillo: ALS reversal, Peptides for Infections, Viruses, and Herxing28 Feb 202301:48:10

My guest this week is Amy Jaramillo, Scientific Director of BodyScience.

In this episode, Amy and I discuss her scientific approach to looking at diseases and the body. Her goal is to get to the root cause of health issues. She looks at health through a different kind of scientific lens where she is able to look at patterns and see the body as a puzzle. We talk about how her and her team treat underlying infections and reverse diseases such as ALS. Even if you are well versed in infections this episode covers a lot. Lastly, no episode would be complete without touching on one of our favorites–peptides.

Amy Jaramillo is the Founder of Body Science LLC, a science based medical center developed with a mission to identify the root cause of health syndromes.  We identify the triggers, exposures and genetic predispositions responsible for conditions including: Motor Neurone Disease, Thyroid Dysregulation, Adrenal Fatigue, ADD/ADHD, Auto-Immunity, Diabetes, Leaky Gut, and Infertility and then we correct them.  Our goal is to cure, not merely to medicate.  A graduate of Florida State University with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry, Amy has over 21 years of experience in the healthcare industry. She is a member of the American Academy of Anti -Aging (A4M) since 2011 and a past member of the Association for the Advancement of Restorative Medicine (AARM).  Amy has extensive experience working in the fields of bio-genetics and bio-technology understanding the genetics-disease link as well as in the field of brain stimulation, implantation and neuromodulation for neuro-degenerative disease.

Episode #135: Could Thymus Regulation be the Key to Immunity and Health?24 Jan 202300:59:09

My guest this week is Kent Holtorf, M.D. of Holtorf Medical.

In this episode, Dr. Holtorf and I discuss how his clinic treats complex conditions such as lyme, mold, shingles and other chronic illnesses. Could it be that there is a more simple way of treating them than we think? What to treat first with chronically ill people, especially when they are incredibly sensitive? Dr. Holtorf addresses the importance of the immune system from a different perspective than most, specifically the thymus gland. Can you be sick if your thymus is working at an optimal level? How does the immune system get out of balance? How does mitochondrial dysfunction fit into chronic conditions? What is human transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) and why is it important? What peptides are the best for various conditions? These are just a few of the many topics we discuss. My guest this week is Dr. Alan J. Bauman, MD, ABHRS of Bauman Medical.

In this episode, Dr. Bauman and I discuss at home and in clinic solutions to hair loss and hair restoration. Did you know 80 million Americans report having hair loss issues, which ~30 million are females? "Hair loss" searches have skyrocketed…. and no surprise, the elephant in the room is real, but why?  Worried about hair thinning? Hair loss? Scalp health? Curious about what supplements, biohacks or procedures actually work for hair regrowth? We cover all that and the many triggers to hair loss, plus what to do about it in episode 134. As a medical doctor and biohacking expert in hair rejuvenation, Dr. Bauman shares what he's seeing in clinic: noticeable changes in the last few years, what works and what doesn't for the gadgets and therapies (chemical, non-chemical, topical, oral, and peptides too of course!), including the hottest therapy in hair restoration, called TED, his clinic's individualized approach to achieving the best hair regrowth for each patient, especially for PRP, and loads of realistic and effective DIY biohacking hair health, scalp health, hair loss support, and regrowth tips throughout the entire episode.

Episode #130: Why Structured Water Matters for Health in Humans, Plants & Animals20 Dec 202201:13:08

My guests this week are Dr. Eric Laarakker & Dolf Zantinge of Analemma.

In this episode we discuss possibly the most important molecule to life, water, and the critical role of structured or "coherent" water. Did you know water is actually quite sensitive? Think about how much it can absorb from life-supportive minerals to toxic contaminants, to sound, or how easily it changes states from a solid to gas. Why does the structure of water matter? How does water become unstructured? How does the structure of water affect hydration? Do toxins like glyphosate and 5G disrupt water structure? We talk about all of this, and if this sounds hippy-dippy, it's not.

So before you nix the idea of water structure playing a vital role in sustaining all life on earth from supporting healthy brainwaves to reversing biological age and more beyond benefiting just humans–the soil, plants and animals too, take a listen to this simple, elegant solution to restructure water, backed by research, it may just have you thirsty for more…

Episode #129: Weight Loss Results with New GLP-1 Agonist, Mounjaro & Ozempic Comparison13 Dec 202201:05:05

My guest this week is Caleb Greer, FNP-C.

This is one of the most anticipated episodes! Caleb (he's a favorite in this community!) and I discuss the hot topic, GLP-1 agonists! Caleb breaks down what is a GLP-1 agonist, what are Semaglutides (Ozempic) and the new predecessor, GLP-1 agonist, Tirzepatide, a class of peptide that is being touted as the closest to a fat loss holy grail in a long time!  Could Tirzepatide be a magical support for fat loss? Before you race to get it, there are very important pieces to learn on dosing and side effects/"black box warnings" because as we all know, there are no free passes in life…

Caleb compares these two drugs, discusses patient results, the promising benefits for high cholesterol, who is eligible, health challenges with PPIs and what to supplement, and foundations needed to be successful in any weight loss journey, because long-term health is never just, "a pill for every ill"!

Episode #128: Could Plasmalogens Be the Next Big Discovery for Antiaging & Recovery?06 Dec 202201:34:20

My guest this week is Dr. Dayan Goodenowe, PhD. of Prodrome Sciences.

In this episode, Dr. Goodenowe and I discuss plasmalogens; what are plasmalogens, the fascinating research and case studies around antiaging and quicker recovery, why plasmalogens decline with age, the connection between myelination and brain development, various conditions plasmalogens can support; particularly in degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, MS, Parkinson's and other neurological conditions, and how you can improve your plasmalogen levels through diet and supplementation.  Dr. Goodenowe does an incredible job of breaking down the science of APOE genetic variations and the importance of cholesterol, as well as if it is possible to prevent TBI's.

I'm incredibly excited about the use of plasmalogens–not just for recovery, general cognition, and longevity, but also for the potential to support prevention and addressing of so many common debilitating conditions from autism to Alzheimer's, cancer, and more. Plasmalogens are found in various areas of the body and they account for about 20% of our brain's total weight, peaking in our 30s and 40s, but substantially declining by our 70s.  The good news is we can restore levels (and also test). We have a lot to cover, including prenatal and postnatal care!  Let's dive in!

Episode #127: Optimal Ranges for Blood Work & What They Actually Can Tell You29 Nov 202201:25:16

My guest this week is Suzanne F. Turner, MD.

Did you know we can learn a lot from the many standard labs conventional practitioners run once we tweak the ranges and look at the whole picture?  Dr. Suzanne is the perfect doctor to discuss conventional and functional testing options. We take a very comprehensive approach to discussing blood work and all the ideal lab ranges; everything your primary care physician should be routinely testing for, along with additional tests to request should you need further analysis. We touch on all the foundational tests, starting with cholesterol/lipids panel, blood sugar, inflammation markers, liver health, CBC, CMP, and thyroid. Then go more in depth with tests for aging, genetics, micronutrients, disease markers, and more.  We also talk about our favorite topics of epigenetics and peptides–for weight loss, gut health, and many other ways Dr. Turner uses peptides (she's quite the expert in peptides and regenerative medicine!).  This conversation is jam packed with information, so make sure to have a pen ready and save it for future reference when you need a refresher before your next doctor's visit!

Episode #126: Biohacking Longevity & Health From a Bodybuilder's Perspective22 Nov 202201:11:02

My guest this week is Kris Gethin, Editor-in-Chief of BodyBuilding.com & Co-Founder and CEO of Kaged Muscle.

In this episode, Kris and I discuss how you can achieve peak physical performance without sacrificing longevity or health. Historically, this health tradeoff has been common in the bodybuilding and extreme sport communities; an often short lived career (or hobby) with long-term health implications from the physical and biological abuse they put their bodies through.  But Kris' approach is proving otherwise.

The best part of this conversation is that the strategies Kris uses and shares with us are not just for elite athletes, and extremely applicable to anyone interested in making sure their health span is equivalent to their lifespan. So, whether you are a fitness fanatic, biohacker, or just interested in being healthy inside and out, this episode's expert advice is one you've been waiting for!

Episode. #250: The Foot-Brain Connection: How Proper Foot Function Impacts Longevity and Quality of Life with Mark Sisson12 Jul 202401:20:15

Have you ever considered the importance of your feet in maintaining overall health and well-being? In this episode, I chat with Mark Sisson, founder of Peluva Footwear and Primal Kitchen, about the importance of functional movement and the impact of footwear on our health.

Mark shares his experience of how traditional running shoes led to injuries. We discuss the concept of ground feel, toe articulation, and toe splay and how these factors are essential for optimal foot health. Overall, our conversation focuses on the importance of foot health and the negative effects of wearing restrictive shoes.

Mark Sisson, a New York Times bestselling author and former endurance athlete, has been researching ways to achieve optimal health and fitness for almost 40 years. He is the co-founder of Primal Kitchen®. In 2021, driven by his obsession with shoes and foot health, Sisson joined with his son to start Peluva, creating minimalist shoes that encourage walking as the single best form of movement for health.

Episode #124: How to Fix Your Gut: From Antibiotics to Mental Health08 Nov 202201:08:42

My guest this week is Kiran Krishnan, Chief Scientific Officer of Microbiome Labs.

In this episode, Kiran and I discuss how to fix your gut and how the microbiome affects every aspect of your health, including the health of others in your household (pets too)! We talk about how to support and repopulate the gut post antibiotics to the emerging science of psychobiotics for mental health and wellbeing. Did you know anxiety and depression markers can be measured through gut testing?--We talk about the importance of the gut-brain connection and why what may seem like low-grade symptoms now, such as sleeplessness or foggy brain, may actually be a warning sign of neurological disease pathologies. The clinical trials Kiran discusses are fascinating; from the effects of over sterilization among populations to having an overly leaky gut!

And, no gut conversation is complete without talking poop, personal care, stress, or environmental exposures either!
