The Guardians were unable to overcome a rough second inning from Triston McKenzie in a short start. Despite the loss to the Mariners on Monday, there were some positive takeaways. The bullpen navigated well and saved them from a potential move to get a fresh arm up and Stephen Vogt pulled some good levers. The offense had some late life and then on Tuesday, also had some good signs behind another strong start by Shane Bieber.

 

We discuss the level of concern for McKenzie, rehabs, and future moves for Xzavion Curry, Ben Lively, and eventually Sam Hentges and Gavin Williams.

The Cleveland Guardians continue their west coast trip, which gives us the chance to finish our 2024 position preview series with second base.

 

We took a look back at Andres Gimenez 2022 season and his 2023, to see if the 2024 version will be something in between. We also debated where he ranked on this roster in terms of his importance to the team given his contract, defense, ability to move between second and short if needed, and his all around game.

 

We also discussed second base options in the minors, which is mostly Juan Brito and then hopefully Travis Bazzana, if those two even stick at second base.  

 

And it was a big weekend in college baseball, so we discuss the 1.1 options and performance among Charlie Condon, Travis Bazzana, Braden Montgomery, Nick Kurtz, the absence of JJ Whetherholt, and we dig a little deeper on Ryan Johnson.

After a long wait the Cleveland Guardians 2024 season finally got underway in Oakland. Shane Bieber looked in vintage form early and the offense got off to a good start.

We weren't able to record reactions for the full game due to the late start, but we discussed the intrigue of the opening lineup, the platoons and flexibility, but also one hitter who should hit higher.

 

We also discuss the additions of Peter Strzelecki and Zak Kent to their pitching depth and why we think these additions can help in 2024 and maybe beyond.

After an interesting weekend of college baseball, we dig into some of the top performs like Travis Bazzanna of Oregon State, Jonathan Santucci of Duke,  Hagen Smith of Arkansas, Jac Caglianone of Florida, Chase Burns of Wake Forest, and Ohio boy Riley Huge of Winthrop.
