What a day that was. The Colorado Avalanche threw their hat into the trade season with two big deals. One brought defenseman Sean Walker in from the Philadelphia Flyers while sending a first round pick and Ryan Johansen to Philly. The Colorado Avalanche took care of business again against the Chicago Blackhawks, which doesn't sound very difficult, but when you have an inexperienced and young goalie who shut them out two straight games, that means something. Justus Annunen is making a case for the Avalanche backup goalie position with his last three starts, and you could argue the case is closed at this point. The Colorado Avalanche followed up two very well played games against the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks with a dud against the Nashville Predators. Optimists will say the game wasn't decided until the 3rd period, but were any of us really happy with how the game was going through the first two periods? We sure were not. This has been the season for the Avs. The good, the bad and the ugly. Hopefully, another matchup with the Blackhawks on Monday will get the team a relatively easy two points. One thing going around social media was more Cale Makar talk, and if something is wrong enough for the Avs to give him rest to be fully healthy for the playoffs. We discuss. If the Colorado Avalanche benefitted from the Dallas Stars playing the second game of a back to back, they won't care. This was a game they needed and they played like it. The Avs scored five unanswered and beat the Dallas Stars again this season, this time by a score of 5-1. In the process, Cale Makar got his 307th career point, which sets a new franchise record. Valeri Nichushkin is back with the Colorado Avalanche, at least at practice for now. Head coach Jared Bednar did state that he likely will not play this week, but also did not give an exact date or game he could potentially return. Regardless, just having him back at practice is what everyone was happy to see. It would have been perfect if Nuke could have returned Tuesday night to square off against the team that didn't want him in the Dallas Stars. While it was a hard fought and well played game, the Colorado Avalanche came out the loser on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. We can't say just yet if Justus Annunen is the answer for the Colorado Avalanche and their backup goalie problem, but if he keeps playing like this that will answer itself.

Annunen played an excellent game against the Detroit Red Wings, but the Avalanche couldn't get him the victory as they fell in OT and on the road yet again.

While an enjoyable game to watch, and although we are years beyond the blood feud years between these two teams, there is always still a little sting when losing to Detroit.

We had the Vancouver Canucks vs Colorado Avalanche circled on our calendars for some time now. But we didn't plan for what happened the day before in Minnesota.

The Canucks allowed the Minnesota Wild to score seven goals in the 3rd period, ending with a Wild 10-7 win. Now, not only does Vancouver come to Denver one day later, but they are also losers of their last two games. We knew the Avalanche would have to be up and ready to face the Canucks, now they REALLY have to be up and ready.

12 points were available during the Colorado Avalanche six game road trip following the All-Star Weekend. They were able to collect three.

The final matchup was against the Tampa Bat Lightning, and honestly, for two periods this was a fun game to watch. A lot of back and forth, some good action and a playoff like atmosphere. The Avalanche even had the lead in the 3rd period....for about 13 seconds. Then it all went downhill from there.

The Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning still have some animosity towards one another ever since the Avs clinched the Stanley Cup on the Lightning ice back in 2022. So whenever these two teams meet up since then, it's always entertaining.

For the Avalanche, they just want to get two points and end this terrible road trip with a win. For the Lightning, they have found themselves in a playoff spot battle and need the points just the same.

Then there is the Hart Trophy angle, where the two front runners, Nathan MacKinnon and Nikita Kucherov, will go head to head.

It wasn't all pretty, but it wasn't all ugly either. Maybe the Washington Capitals were the right team at the right time for the Colorado Avalanche to square off against to end their four game losing streak, which they did with a 6-3 victory in the nation's Capital.

Artturi Lehkonen led the way with a 2 goal, 2 assist night including one beautiful between the legs set up for Mikko Rantanen. In fact, the Avs got point productions up and down the forward lines in this one. Something that has been lacking as of late.

But problems still persist including some defensive lapses and clearing problems.

All in all, you'll take the two points and the W.

Sure the Colorado Avalanche are the best team in the league at comeback victories. But some opponents make it much more difficult to accomplish that feat. The Carolina Hurricanes are one of those teams.

A natural hat trick in the first period by Martin Necas was all the Hurricanes needed for a 5-2 win over the Avs, who didn't help themselves by going 0 for 6 on the power play where they could generate nothing.

It was frustrating to watch the Avalanche continue to try doing what they normally do with no success, only to turn around and try it again.

The Colorado Avalanche have continued to be one of the dominant teams for the past several years. They have a handful of players on the team you would categorize as "superstars". They won a Stanley Cup just two seasons ago. But when it comes to one of the premiere events of the NHL season in the Winter Classic, the Avalanche were once again not granted a spot at the table.

The league announced that we will get a game we already have seen for the Classic next year between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. The Blackhawks we get, Conor Bedard is a budding star and people want to see him in that setting. The Blues? What gives?

We also discuss if the Avs need to do something like what the Florida Panthers showed off in a slick 3rd jersey. Is it time for the Avs to get radical?

So far the road trip has been not what the Colorado Avalanche have wanted in terms of outcomes. The Avs haven't looked terrible in both games of the back to back against the New York Rangers or the New Jersey Devils, but they haven't been good enough to come away with more than a single OT point so far.

The Devils made life difficult for Colorado. Not giving them time and space, getting into shooting lanes and just being all around disruptive. But despite that, the Avs managed two goals in less than a minute during a 4 on 4 to get them tied at 3. But another defensive melt down that resulted in a late goal for the Devils put it away.

It's All-Star Weekend......cool.

The NHL put on an all new skills tournament and honestly, it wasn't half bad. Of course, Connor McDavid won the thing along with the $1 million prize, but up until he ran in the obstacle course, Cale Makar was in the lead to win it.

A Colorado Avalanche player might not have won it all, but they did win a couple of the events.

Nathan MacKinnon won the one-timer event while Cale Makar won the hardest shot, clocking a slapper at over 102mph.

All in all, pretty entertaining.

We also discuss the news that NHL players will return to the Olympic games in 2026, a four country round robin tournament in 2025, and the return of the World Cup on Hockey in 2028!

It was fantasy draft night for the NHL All-Star Game while Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar were joined by singer Tate McRae to make the selections for his roster.

We got some familiar faces added to the squad. To almost nobody's surprise, MacKinnon picked his buddy Sidney Crosby with his first pick, then Avalanche goalie Alexandar Georgiev and division foe Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild.

The draft itself had some good moments, but in typical NHL fashion, some uncomfortable ones as well. But overall, it was a good starting point in bringing back the draft.

We also wrap up our mid season grades as we get to the defensemen and Georgiev for a goalie grade.

The big trade fish is off the market.

The Calgary Flames traded Elias Lindholm to the Vancouver Canucks late Wednesday evening and boy was it a lot for a potential rental. Andrei Kuzmenko, two prospects, a first and fourth round picks in the 2024 draft go to Calgary and the talented forward goes to Vancouver to make that team even more dangerous if Lindholm can get back on track.

For the Colorado Avalanche, that haul was something they likely were not going anywhere near. We discuss why.

Us Colorado Avalanche fans know the greatness of Nathan MacKinnon. Sometimes we get a little upset and frustrated when the rest of the hockey world doesn't recognize him as much as we do. But yesterday something happened for the first time in seven years.

TSN released their midseason Top 25 list, and for the first time since 2017, Connor McDavid is not at the top of that list. Nathan MacKinnon moved above him. We discuss why this is a pretty big deal.

We also dive into the February schedule. Which begins right off the bat with the Avs on a six game road trip. Including a confusing stretch where they play in Florida, leave Florida, then go back to Florida. Because the NHL.

The Colorado Avalanche ended the first half of their season with a convincing 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Things have been rolling recently for the Avs, and now they have to wait over a week to play again.

Why? Because of the All-Star Game. Which almost everyone pans. But since we have three Avalanche players, we will pay attention. But who those Avalanche players will play with is still up in the air. The Colorado Avalanche made another signing on day 2 of free agency, this time bringing in defenseman Erik Brannstrom from the Ottawa Senators. Brannstrom hasn't panned out the way many thought he would when he was drafted #15 overall.
