Our guest on Episode 27 is alt-country singer/songwriter Tommy Prine!

Tommy is the son of music legend John Prine, and released his debut record “This Far South” in 2023 to critical acclaim. Admittedly, Tommy was late to the worlds of songwriting and touring, but he is certainly making up for lost time, releasing a constant string of both original and cover singles, all while headlining clubs across North America.

Episode 18 of “Load-In Through the Back” is a conversation with Red Wanting Blue frontman Scott Terry!

The Ohio rockers affectionately known as RWB to their legions of loyal fans have been writing, recording, and traveling behind their original music since 1996, sharing bills with artists like Counting Crows, O.A.R., and the Roots! Their music has been played on MTV, VH1, and was featured in Abercrombie & Fitch stores across the United States!

In this episode Scott and Troy become best friends. Well, at least in Troy’s head. They talk about life on the road, the best roadside stops, navigating an ever-changing recording process in today’s modern landscape, and the records that influenced Scott and RWB.

Today we are joined by founder and guitarist of the L E G E N D A R Y Dallas nü-metal band Drowning Pool: CJ Pierce.

Since bursting onto the scene with the 2001 LP “Sinner” featuring the hit single “Bodies,” the Drowning Pool story is one full of successes and setbacks– including the death of their original lead singer, Dave Williams, performing as a headlining act at Ozzfest, record label turmoil, and building lifelong friendships through music.

On Episode 16 of “Load-In Through the Back,” Troy and Pauly chat with CJ about the new single, “Revolution (the Final Amen),” his iconic guitar tone, reuniting with singer Ryan McCombs, the band’s friendship with Dimebag Darrell, two decades of radio and licensing hits, the creative process, and more.

His latest studio record, “Pagan Church” has garnered high-praise from publications such as American Songwriter and Rolling Stone Magazine

Our guest on Episode 10 of “Load-In Through the Back” is UK-born, California-based pop star Maisy Kay

With #1 songs on both the Spotify Viral and YouTube Music charts, her intimate lyricism and contagiously melodic dance hooks have placed her on arena tours with the likes of JVKE and Tori Kelly. Her song “Karma is a Bitch Like You” gained the attention of electronic music legend Tiesto, who remixed the song for the 2024 release “Karma.”

In this interview, Troy and Maisy discuss pot roast, songwriting, managerial woes, and carving out space in the music landscape as a young artist.

The “Purple Skies World Tour” with Tori Kelly runs through the end of 2024, and Maisy’s new EP “Wonderlust: the Dusk” drops October 18th.

BBB joins us to discuss the “Dirtbags Across America” Tour heading to Hawaii (after hitting the continental 48 states in 2024), headlining a Black Metal festival, recording their iconic debut album in his mom’s basement, new music, and (of course) the bucket hat.

On Episode Eight of “Load-In Through the Back,” Montana-based singer/songwriter Madeline Hawthorne admits that Vermont maple syrup is superior to her birth state of New Hampshire’s… okay, she doesn’t, but Troy and Pauly still wanted to put that out there.

If you are not familiar with Madeline’s work, you are in for a real treat. Fantastic Cat13 Sep 202400:50:37

We are lucky to have Fantastic Cat’s Mike Montali on Episode Seven of “Load-In Through the Back”– not because he’s one of the outrageously charismatic and talented members of the folk-rock supergroup that Rolling Stone Magazine calls “equal parts Dylan and Springsteen,” but because Fantastic Cat almost died…

Well, at least according to their website bio…

Which also alludes to rehab stints, mega ego, and an encounter with Godzilla which culminated with the ruination of the mastertapes for their live EP “Live at the Bowery.”

I’m not making any of this up… but they are.

The jovial nature of their brand and onstage persona’s in contrast with sentimental songwriting and unparalleled versatility in musicianship, has made Fantastic Cat a must-see act in every town across America!

Spoiler alert: this Cat is a dog person. We know because this conversation features a very special appearance from Mike’s dog Otis.

During this interview, Mike touches on the recording of Fantastic Cat’s latest record “Now That’s What I Call Fantastic Cat,” their rigorous touring schedule, becoming a “real band” AFTER recording their first record, and *admittedly* Troy’s favorite subject– Adam Duritz of Counting Crows

Catch Fantastic Cat on tour through the remainder of 2024 and well into 2025.

Cat Popper30 Aug 202401:01:29

Ya know what, maybe it is alright– because despite Troy ignoring her DM in 2019, we are talking to the wonderful and talented Cat Popper on Episode Four of “Load-In Through the Back!”

Cat is your favorite bassist's favorite bassist. She was an original member of Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. She toured the globe with Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. She plays drums (sort of) with Sasha Dobson and Norah Jones as the female power-trio Puss N Boots. That’s not to mention Jack White, Brian Fallon, Jesse Malin, and the host of other artists whose live and recorded music has been bolstered by the signature sounds of Cat’s ‘66 P-Bass.

As if that wasn’t enough, she released two singles under her own name for Velvet Elk Records in 2020 and 2021. Show off.

In this episode we cover Cat’s musical journey so far, her celebrity online dating profile, and dive into her totally unhinged and awesome Instagram page (@cat_popper).

In addition to discussing 2023’s “Hands Like Mine” LP, our conversation covers the triumphs and tribulations of the creative process, life on the road as both a performer and personnel, and settles the age-old question: Taylor Ham or Pork Roll?

Scott Tournet11 Aug 202401:07:01

Ayuupppp– Episode Two brings us an interview with guitarist, singer, songwriter, and all around good-guy Scott Tournet of the Spark, Elektric Voodoo, and (of course) Grace Potter & the Nocturnals.

Our conversation with Scott touches on his rural Vermont upbringing, the conception of Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, touring football stadiums, a near-disastrous pre-show parkour session with members of his group Elektric Voodoo, parenthood, the rewards (and challenges) of fronting his current solo project: Scott Tournet & the Spark, and so much more.

Make sure to check out Scott Tournet’s YouTube channel and his official webpage, ScottTournet.net, to stay up-to-date on future tour dates and releases. If you still can’t get enough (believe us, we can relate), there is plenty of Scott Tournet to go around @scott_tournet across social media.

Cracker (Johnny Hickman)30 Oct 202400:59:39

Stravs joins us following an emotional weekend of headlining shows at the Marquee Theater in Tempe, Arizona.

Following a 2022 studio session, the band’s lead singer and co-founder Andy Chaves tragically passed away in a car accident. Since then, the remaining members have forged ahead to complete their last studio album: “Until the End of Time.” The LP features Chaves’ lead vocals on every track, as well as guest vocalists Rome RamirezJared Watson and Duddy B of the Dirty Heads, and John O'Callaghan of the Maine

The band and their producers spent countless hours compiling demo recordings and unused studio takes of Chaves to complete the album over the past two years, and recently performed a string of shows to celebrate the project's release.

In this interview we discuss the process of compiling Andy’s vocal tracks, the catharsis of performing live following the album’s release, life on the road, and baby socks… yes, baby socks.

Make sure to visit KatastroMusic.com for exclusive merchandise including “Until the End of Time” vinyl records, and stay connected with band members via social media using the handle @Katastro.

Brett Dennen13 Jan 202500:50:53

To the best of our knowledge, there’s nothing today’s guest can’t do. He is a singer/songwriter, environmental advocate, a teacher, a watercolor artist, and he can eat an entire apple… that’s right, core and all. We are, of course, talking about Brett Dennen.

His mission is simple– to gather like-minded music fans to consistently try to make the world a better place.

On this episode we are joined by Speech, the groundbreaking MC behind one of the most iconic hip-hop groups of all-time: Arrested Development.

The group burst onto the national scene with their debut album “3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life of…” which contained smash-hits such as “Tennessee,” “Mr. Wendall,” and “People Everyday,” and garnered the group two GRAMMY awards. In 1993 the group was named Rolling Stone Magazine’s Band of the Year, and will forever reside on their list of the Top 100 Greatest Hip-Hop Acts of All-Time!

Yes, you read that correctly.

The band released their critically acclaimed double record, “Bullets in the Chamber,” in 2024, and will tour the United States in 2025. Visit ArrestedDevelopmentMusic.com for more information, and follow @ArrestedDevelopment__ and @Speech__ across social media to be the first to know!
