074: Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn - Connections and Corrections15 Sep 202100:30:25

I learned the value of connection and correction when my daughter was 16.

I had been reading John Maxwell’s books for a long time. Over the years, I had come across one of his books entitled Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn. Eventually, I also found the teen version of that book and decided to buy it.

Just a few months after buying that book, my daughter got into some trouble. As a result, I decided to give her two choices: she could lose her phone for a month or read the book and write a summary of each chapter, what she learned from it, and how she applied it.

She decided to read the book.

Through this experience of walking and talking with my daughter as she went through this book, we both matured. The true meaning of “sometimes you win, sometimes you learn” began to sink in.

Today, I am sharing some of the top lessons from this book and how they affected my relationship with my daughter.

Whether you’re a parent or not, this episode will be pure gold for you. I’m going to be touching on lessons that will help you improve all of your relationships and your entire life.

Learn from the junky mistakes I’ve made as a parent and in my relationship world. Take these lessons that have served me and my clients well and allow them to serve you too.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • The top four lessons from Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn.
  • What to ask ourselves when we want to grow in an area.
  • The importance of asking questions in our relationships.
  • Steps for connecting with people.
  • Why learning from loss is the key.
  • How to apply the concept of connections and corrections.

068: The Magic of Surrender with Kute Blackson04 Aug 202100:50:21

Many of us are self-proclaimed control freaks. We like for things to be within our grasp and we want to do what we want, when we want.

However, the truth is that we don’t have any ultimate control. There will come a point when bad things happen and nothing we do about them can make a difference.

This is where surrender comes in.

Kute Blackson had to come to grips with his lack of control when his mom was diagnosed with cancer. After doing everything he could to help her heal for months, he eventually realized all there was left to do was surrender.

As a result, he wrote his book The Magic of Surrender.

That is what we are discussing today. I brought Kute onto the show to talk all about his personal journey towards surrender and why this is such an important topic in our world.

Kute had some true gold nuggets to share with us so tune in to hear them for yourself and learn the “magic” of surrender!

In this episode, you will hear:

  • How Kute’s book came to be.
  • The significance of surrender in Kute’s life.
  • How surrendering lets us tap into our true greatness and is the key to freedom.
  • Practical steps to surrendering.
  • How surrender is hardwired into us.
  • The difference between acceptance and surrender.
  • The importance of grieving when we surrender.
  • How we need to shift our perspective on life.
  • Why we should stop asking, “What do I want?”
  • Small steps to take if you want to change the world.

061: Strategies to Live Life Rich from Think and Grow Rich02 Jun 202100:31:49

Living life rich all comes down to our mindset, vision, purpose, plan, and goals.

What do you do that matters?

What kind of attitude are you getting up with every day?

What does your mindset say about you?

Over the next few episodes, I’m going to share with you a 12-step process that will help you live life rich and answer these questions.

The 12 steps come from a book I’ve studied for many years: Think and Grow Rich. They are real-life strategies that have served me well in the middle of a global pandemic and will serve you well when stuff hits the fan in your life.

I’ve used these steps over and over again in my business and they have helped me practically design my life and shape my financial future.

Your hopes are on one side of the house, your dreams fulfilled are on the other side of it, and the space in the middle is your plan. No matter what happens, you get the opportunity to wake up and do something differently.

Let’s talk about the first four steps to creating our success plan and recognizing the opportunities all around us.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Why you need to have a burning desire to reach your goals.
  • How to create a burning desire.
  • What absolute faith is.
  • How to develop absolute faith.
  • The importance of positive self-talk.
  • Why you need to specialize in something.

059: The Art of the Introduction Part 219 May 202100:29:42

In this episode, I am getting into part 2 of my series The Art of the Introduction.

As I mentioned last week, back in the day I had various mentors who taught me this art. Everything I am sharing is a compilation of the things that have made me successful.

They’ve helped me succeed in my relationships, in growing forward in those relationships, and ultimately in my business.

So today I am sharing the next 3 steps to the art of the introduction. I am dissecting the statement that it’s not what you know but who you know that matters, something that had proven true in my life time and time again.

Zig Ziglar once said, “If you help enough people get what they want, you can have all your heart’s desires.” I believe that in the depth of my heart. If you have a dream in your heart, it was placed there on purpose and with purpose and connections are the way to achieve it.

Tune in to learn how to apply this truth as well as the other aspects of the art of the introduction.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Why the way you introduce yourself is important.
  • What branding, marketing, and sales really are.
  • The questions to ask yourself to help you build connections.
  • How to help others help you.
  • Why referrals are priceless.
  • The 3 step process to creating your perfect pitch.

058: The Art of the Introduction Part 112 May 202100:32:17

Today we are kicking off an amazing two-part series: The Art of the Introduction.

This is a concept I learned years ago. It is one of the main things I attribute to helping me not only live life rich but also have a fun experience with people.

It all started when I would go to K-Mart and talk to new moms about their insurance policies for their babies.

However, as you entrepreneurs know, I never started the conversation talking about insurance. I started with a genuine and purposeful introduction.

Throughout this series, I will be teaching all of you how to master the art of the introduction too.

I’ll share how to make an impression that brings in the right clients consistently.

I’ll explain how to save yourself money, time, and stress by always looking for the next sale.

This strategy works; I’ve been doing it for 30 years. I’m so excited for you to learn and implement it in your business.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • The first kind of introduction.
  • How to introduce yourself well.
  • The importance of introducing you and your message.
  • How to clearly communicate the problem you solve.
  • The power of connections.
  • Why you always need to follow up and follow through.

051: Check In's, Check Up's, Don't Check Out24 Mar 202100:42:33

You’ve heard the phrase, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

When we say that, we’re talking about our physical health. We’re talking about doing the things we need to consistently do in order to stay as physically healthy as we can.

However, no one talks about the strategies for staying healthy in every other area of life. In those areas, we tend to check out instead.

The problem is, when we check out, things are left to chance.

We won’t achieve our goals. We won’t have the lives of our dreams. In fact, we wake up one day and realize we’re 10 steps behind where we wanted to be.

I’ve been there. I’ve struggled through checking out and found ways to instead check-in and get checkups. I’ve learned real-life strategies that you can also apply to your world to live life rich.

The only person who will be an advocate for you is you. So, be that advocate today. Listen to this episode to get started.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Warren Buffet’s 4 key components of why the rich are rich.
  • How to not check out.
  • The changes in our lives that we need to be aware of.
  • The different areas of your life where you need to get a check-up.
  • What kind of professional advisors you need in your life.
  • The questions to ask and actions to take when you do a check-up.

I want you to wake up with determination and go to bed with satisfaction.

I want you to build the life of your dreams.

I want you to live life rich, whatever that means for you.

This is what I preach every week and the very reason I started this podcast. Over the next few weeks, I want to dig even deeper into it.

Whether you are a budding entrepreneur or someone who is further along in your entrepreneurial journey, these tips will help you grow and scale your business.

You will be broke and stay broke if you don’t master these 3 areas. So tune in and take control of your finances today.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • What the operations department is.
  • What goes into the sales and marketing department of a business.
  • What you must know when it comes to the finance and legal aspects of your business.
  • Why each of these departments is so important.

046: Take Back Your Life Part 2: How To Find Balance In Every Area Of Your Life And Business17 Feb 202100:29:05

Last week, I gave you the first 5 steps for taking back your life. Today, I’m continuing right on with the next 5.

These are keys I’ve picked up along the way for living a life of balance.

They are the strategies I consistently use because, when I don’t, I go off track.

Many of us business owners are jugglers. We attempt to juggle dozens of balls at once.

Sometimes, this is okay.

There are short-term goals that are like rubber balls--if we drop them, they’ll bounce and we’ll be okay.

But some of them are like glass balls--when we drop these, they shatter and we’re left picking up the pieces. When this happens, we’re never the same.

Those glass balls are the 5 core areas of life. These are the areas where we need to find and implement balance. Today I am teaching you the exact strategies I use to do so.

So if you feel like you’re losing control and spinning your wheels, tune in.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • Know your peaks and troughs.
  • Make room for personal time.
  • How to manage your mind.
  • Why I do that every single morning.
  • Who to trust with our inner thoughts and needs.
  • Get enough rest.

042: Detox Or Die: Why Detoxing Is Crucial For Your Health & Wellbeing with Mia Arancillo20 Jan 202100:35:51

You all know that I love to talk about how to live life rich in every area of life: emotionally, relationally, spiritually, financially, and physically. Today, we are honing in on that last area.

Mia Arancillo is a health and mindset coach. I met her through the John Maxwell Team a few years ago and have been following her and benefitting from her tips on social media ever since. I brought her on to talk about how to detox physically.

This is an area of our life where we have to live life rich--we don’t have a choice. If we don’t get our health in check, every other area of our lives will suffer, too.

Detox now or pay for it later.

This is where Mia specializes. She has an extensive background in gut health and detoxing.

If you want to learn how to detox, secure your physical wellbeing, and save yourself money and heartache on the backend, tune in.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • What Mia does and why she does it.
  • Where to start if you want to get healthy.
  • Why we need to change our mindset on weight loss.
  • Why we have to detox before we lose weight.
  • The 3 phases of detoxing.
  • The various toxins in our world.

041: Spiritual Detox with Josh Finley13 Jan 202100:43:12

If 2020 wasn’t your best year, I want to talk about how to move that forward.

I’m a move forward person. It’s why I do what I do. I help people move from where they are to where they want to be.

What better time to share that with all of you than in the new year and what better person to talk about it with than Josh Finley?

I have followed Josh over the last few years. The things that I have learned from him in that time are perfect for this detox series we are in.

So, let’s jump in.

Let’s wash off the old and put on some new garments this year. Let’s figure out what we need to do to move forward to where we want to be and, more importantly, where God wants us to be.

It’s all about mindsets and breaking old molds of thinking. When your mindset is strong and you know who you are and where you’re going, absolutely nothing can stand in your way.

Pastor Josh is brilliant in that area. Tune in to hear our discussion on spiritual detoxing.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • What a poverty mindset vs. an abundance mindset is.
  • How to change your thoughts.
  • How my faith has propelled my business.
  • The importance of valuing experiences over things.
  • What stewardship means.
  • Why it is so important to Josh to be a good steward of his health.
  • Josh’s realization about and perspective on 2020.
  • How understanding God’s provision actually makes us more generous.
  • Josh’s experience with shame after the recession of 2008.
  • How to overcome shame with grace.

033: Mistakes You Don’t Want To Make If You Want To Retire Early And Stay Retired18 Nov 202000:35:25

Over the next few weeks, I’m talking all about retirement--what you can do to keep yourself safe, growing, moving forward, and protecting yourself and your family.

Today, I’m covering the mistakes.

I am now financially free. I work not because I have to, but because I want to.

However, I realized years ago that freedom comes at a cost. That cost becomes exponentially greater if you don’t master this part of your life early.

I want you to master this. I want financial freedom for you, too. That’s why I’m giving you strategies that will walk you through the steps toward retirement.

It all starts with having a plan. The biggest mistake you can make is having no plan. If you don’t make one, someone else will make it for you.

All of the other mistakes come back to that central one. But they’re also all big mistakes. You need to make sure you’ve assessed them all. Listen in to hear what each one is and how to avoid it.

In this episode, you will hear:

  • What financial freedom means to me and how I got there.
  • What goes into a retirement plan.
  • The mistakes people make when saving for retirement.
  • Why you can’t rely on pension plans.
  • Three things that are killer when it comes to healthcare costs in retirement.
  • How to figure out the right way and at what level to invest.
