It’s time once again for one of my favorite episodes of the year, the always-beloved “favorite-books-i-read-last-year” episode. I was fortunate in encountering so many 5-star reads in 2025, and it seems no book on this list is like another- though I can’t recommend this list of books enough. After ending last year in a bit of a busy-season reading-slump, I’m so excited to get back into a new year of books.

This has been a lovely summer so far, and in today’s episode I’m sharing a bit of a recap/companion to my summer bucket list, as well as some of my new favorite cookbooks.
As we’re standing on the brink of cozy season, this is a time when I generally struggle to remain inspired in the kitchen and end up exploring some new texts! I’m sharing my absolute favorite books to work with in the kitchen this year, as well as some exciting new additions to the collection. Combining books and cooking– two of the best things!

Taking Care of Yourself PART 2: seasonal depression, postpartum, grief, etc.
28 Feb 2025
00:39:32
Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 123 of Life On the Brink!
I’m calling this episode a Part 2 as it sort of relates to one of the most popular episodes of the podcast: Episode 80 called “Taking Care of Yourself When You Feel Overwhelmed, Anxious or Burnt Out.” This is in a similar vein, but personally comes from a different headspace. Whereas Part 1 took place during a huge time of transition when I was moving into a new home, these days I’m in the midst of my first year of motherhood and am working through new stresses and, at times, sadness.
Sometimes you need to sit with your sadness, but for the times when you want to cheer up, in this episode I'm simply sharing the things that have been comforting to me.
Plus, I'm sharing a new favorite show that forces me to slow down, and a fun album from a beloved jazz band.
Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 122 of Life On the Brink!
It’s time once again for one of my favorite episodes of the year, the always-beloved “favorite-books-i-read-last-year” episode, where I am sharing 6 of my favorite reads from 2024! Some are brand new, some are old classics, but all of them hold a special place in my heart and have my complete recommendation. I’m also recapping my season of reading while caring for a newborn, and sharing my reading goals for the coming year.
Now’s the perfect time to stock up your TBR!
Plus, this week's Little Joy a recent Christmas gift that has literally changed my daily life, and I'm sharing a superalbum of classical music that never fails- Zoe approved!
A Restful Christmas at Home: slowing down, simplifying, and enjoying holiday comforts
12 Dec 2024
00:47:51
Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 121 of Life On the Brink!
Every Christmas is unique, but this year is so unlike any other. This year I’m a mom and it’s my little girl’s very first Christmas, which is so special! It also means that I have less time and less energy than most holiday seasons of the past.
I usually do the absolute most during the Christmas season, and while I do love the hustle and bustle, it’s draining. So this year I’m doing what’s necessary, and letting the rest go. In the place of some of that hustle, I’m enjoying slower days, mostly at home with my little family, and today I’m sharing some of those days with you. Activities, crafts, recipes, music, all the things that are making this (very different) Christmas season more restful and beautiful.
Plus, this week's Little Joy is a very popular joy right now, but nevertheless so inspiring and enjoyable, and I'm sharing the holiday album I've had on repeat this Christmas season.
Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 120 of Life On the Brink!
We're back again with another installment of the Movie Night series, this time in a celebration of cooking, food, and the gathering that happens around it. I'm once again joined by my sister Sarah as we discuss our favorite "foodie" movies and how a movie night can be an extension of the onscreen meals. So fun, and perfect for this time of year!
We have quite a bit in common, mostly that we agree on a lot of our favorite movies and that we love a theme, so we always have a ton of fun when we have these chats.
Plus, Sarah shares a fun new recipe and I've got a new playlist of music just for this episode.
Hello hello, welcome to Episode 119, a little mini episode with an update and links to episodes from the archive for this fine Halloween Thursday.
As I'm continuing to adjust to motherhood, I'm making some space to soak up this time while still aiming for consistency in my pursuits. In this episode you'll hear my plan for all that, as well as some more cozy episodes from the Life On the Brink archives that you might enjoy during this season. Especially if you are in a time of transition or challenge like I am, these are for you!

17 Oct 2024
00:54:26
Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 118 of Life On the Brink!
This past June I had the craziest, most surreal experience: I gave birth to my daughter. It's wild to recount everything, and that's exactly what I'm doing in this episode. I was so fortunate to have a really positive birth experience, though not without challenges! Today I'm sharing all the ups and downs and unexpected things surrounding my labor, delivery, and early postpartum days. This whole experience has certainly been the most difficult thing I've gone through, but has been wholly worth it.
Plus, this week's Little Joy is a delicious autumnal recipe, and I'm sharing a nostalgic album of very cozy jazz.

This is the time of year when a sunny day versus a cloudy day can make all the difference; it’s that part of winter where I start to really crave springtime. It’s just around the corner, soon! But until then, even on the brink of a season change, I’ve been searching for ways to enjoy, embrace (or survive) the end of winter.
Today’s episode is greatly inspired by Meik Wiking’s very popular book, “The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living.” I'm sharing so many cozy ideas from this book, ways to embrace the spirit of hygge, as well as some extra things that I have personally been enjoying throughout this winter.

I love to talk about Christmas traditions and enjoy hearing others' memories of Christmases past, and today I absolutely cannot wait to share this episode with you! I have on the podcast none other than my paternal grandmother, whom I call Ma Anna. She's my namesake, she has lived all over the world, and she has such an open and warm outlook on life that I hope to embrace. Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 98 of Life On the Brink!
I’ve been rediscovering my love for cooking yet again, this time as a way to ground and stabilize myself, but also to explore creativity and welcome new fall flavors. I’ve realized lately, though, that many may not have a passion for cooking in the same way, and that’s ok! Hi everyone, I’m making a little mini episode/PSA to give a little update and to speak a bit about some very important things. There’s not a real structure to this, I just wanted to let you know what’s going on. I still recommend making a cup of tea, as I’ve realized in the last few weeks just how comforting one can be. *For the full blog post, click here* For full transcript, click here!
Home Sweet Maison: Embracing French style and ritual in the home

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 95 of Life On the Brink!
I’m so excited for today’s episode, as it’s inspired by a delightful book that focuses on the art of designing one’s home while speaking to my Francophile heart. The book is “Home Sweet Maison: The French Art of Making a Home” by Danielle Postel-Vinay, and what a delight it is! Much about the French way of living aligns with what I try to emphasize here at Life On the Brink: the celebration of the everyday, finding comfort in curated rituals, and emphasis on conversation and culture, among others. To that end, I have carefully combed through this book, making note of the things that I either have already enjoyed in my home or am now inspired to incorporate as I continue to renovate and decorate.
This episodes includes: -ways to highlight the living and cooking spaces -embracing the joy of mealtime rituals -living with both thrift and luxury -new organization techniques -ways to connect your home to those in it
Plus, this week's Little Joy (actually two!) are the season premiers of some fantastic summer shows, and I'm sharing a classic French album to bring a whimsical atmosphere to your home.

Even as we cultivate our beautiful daily lives, every now and then life calls for a bit of elevation and celebration. Today we’re talking about one such celebration: Date Night. A Tin of Sardines: summer storytime + being open to new things

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 91 of Life On the Brink!
Today I return to the podcast after a week of playing music on the road! Naturally, the past week has been so interesting and so different from my usual routine of garden-tending and grocery shopping, and the change of pace has re-introduced some very important aspects of living well that I sometimes forget about. Namely, being open to the “new” or “unusual,” and just embracing each moment as it comes.
This week I’d like to share a few of those moments (including the title sardines) and how they have refreshed my outlook on the rest of this summer season.
Plus, this week's Little Joy is a simple item that has filled my kitchen with coziness, and I have lots of cool music to share as well.
You Have Permission To Enjoy Your Life! (thoughts on productivity and guilt)

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 90 of Life On the Brink!
Have you ever felt guilty for having an easy day? For not getting enough done? As we enter into the new summer season, there’s so much to celebrate and enjoy. So much, in fact, that at times I feel pressure to get out there and enjoy it all! We’re entering a less structured time of year (which is so lovely), and whenever I’m in a season where less is required of my time I can really get into my head about what to do with every hour of the day. Without goals to meet, deadlines to make, or achievements to collect, what is left of our lives?
SO so much more, my friend, so today I simply hope to encourage you. This week has been a bit of an adjustment, and in some ways has been really easy, so let’s talk about how to enjoy that ease rather than feel guilty for our own lives.
Plus, this week's Little Joy was a true welcome to the start of summer, and I'm sharing an album of vocal jazz that's almost 100 years old!
