We’ve finally arrived at the finale, which marks FOUR YEARS since I started this podcast during Covid. I’m wrapping up this season, and kicking off a bit of a maternity break, with a very special episode featuring a most distinguished guest: my husband Josh!

I’m currently 37 weeks pregnant and we are so eagerly awaiting our little girl. This is a totally new chapter, and before we learn all the wonderful parts of this new challenge, today we’re taking a moment to share our perceptions, excitements, and expectations about becoming parents.

Plus, his Little Joy is relaxing bit of repose, and he's sharing some very groovy music to end our fourth season.

Pregnancy Q&A- Part 2: third trimester, nesting, birth plan, etc.09 May 202400:46:23

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 114 of Life On the Brink!

I’m officially entering the ninth month of pregnancy, which is totally wild to say! Around the 20 week mark I shared the beginning of our pregnancy journey and had a little Q&A, and this week I’m back with Part 2! I’m at 35 weeks now, and though I still have a month or so to go, I’m definitely in a different headspace than I was back in January.

This Q&A will focus more on the third trimester, nursery and nesting, and plans for birth and postpartum. It’s so crazy to think that I could really meet this little girl in just a few weeks!

Plus, this week's Little Joy is a very Nancy Meyer's-inspired moment, and I'm sharing a happy, calming album that's kind of the inspiration for my labor playlist.

Homemade Christmas: simple touches for the home02 Dec 202000:18:54

Hello hello, and welcome to episode 11 of Life on the Brink, and the first of our holiday special!

We’re officially all the way into Christmastime! The flashiness and excitement isn’t what’s drawing me into Christmastime this year. Instead, I’m enjoying being at home and having some simple touches of Christmas throughout the home.

In this episode I’ll share some homemade (or naturally derived) festive decor ideas. Maybe one or two will pop out to you and spark some Christmas imagination. We've got foraging, crocheting, sweet smells, and lots of links for further inspiration!

I’m basically thinking of that scene from Little Women (1994 obvs) where they have Christmas in the middle of the movie. It’s simple, yet magical.

Plus, stick around for this week's heartwarming Little Joy, and a fantastic new holiday album!

Hello hello, and welcome to episode 9 of Life on the Brink!

Autumn is here! It's very much so here.
Josh and I returned home from our impromptu honeymoon on October 31 to discover that the autumn chill had settled in Virginia while we were gone.

In  episode I'll share 7 simple daily practices that I'm adding into my routine this season to really soak up all the warm cozies that autumn has to offer. Plus I'm linking LOTS of soup recipes.

Making Special Days Special (7 ways to celebrate)23 Oct 202000:26:03

Hello, and welcome to episode 8 of Life on the Brink!

I don't know about you, but I love traditions. We need birthdays, holidays, small getaways, date nights, and milestones to add a little color to our everyday lives, but without looking too far ahead.

I love looking forward to these time-honored pastimes that not only mark the passing of the year, but also encourage us to really celebrate these special days. This year, though, as we’ve all experienced, has been a little different. We can’t necessarily go where we want to go or do what we normally do to celebrate. Just the ability to gather is a luxury, and not everyone can afford it right now. What can we do then?

In  episode I'll share 7 simple ways to make special days special, no matter the circumstances, because, even now, we are worth celebrating.

Plus, stick around for this week's delicious Little Joy, and a custom playlist that is cozy, jazzy, and perfect for autumn.

Hello, and welcome to episode 7 of Life on the Brink, and my first ever guest on the show!

You know how you only watch Christmas movies within the month of December?
Well I sometimes wait to watch any of my favorite movies until the season matches it. It’s not even necessarily the season in which the film is set (though it can be), it’s more the vibe the movie gives me. It's such a lovely thing to look forward to, so today I've brought on my sister Sarah to share:

-What makes a film an "autumn movie"
-Our (loose) Top 10 favorite picks
-The secret Perkins family popcorn
-Sarah's Little Joy

Plus I'm sharing an album that is not only the soundtrack to our #1 Fall movie, but makes for a sweet season listen this time of year.

In this episode, I’m sharing a few simple ways you can give to others, either with money or resources or time or energy. As we are reminded of the abundance we have in family, security, love, hope and joy, let us spread that to others!

Hello, and welcome to episode 6 of Life on the Brink!

This episode has me particularly excited because it’s about TEA.

I love tea so much, but I’ve found that it has the potential to be pretty intimidating, or at least confusing. I posed this question on my Instagram and was met with some interesting questions that I hadn’t thought of before. I personally love drinking and learning about this fun little plant, and today I hope to help answer some of those questions.

Today we’ll explore:
-how tea compares to coffee
-the different types of teas (and a few important variations)
-what the deal is with loose-leaf tea and how it compares to tea bags.
-a few of my personal favorite blends
-how to make a perfect cup of tea!

Plus, stick around for this week’s Little Joy and tea-inspired album perfect for the season. I can guarantee that by the end of this episode, you’ll be craving a nice, warming, comforting cup of tea (if you’re not already sipping one.)

Home Sweet Maison: Embracing French style and ritual in the home10 Aug 202300:39:56

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 95 of Life On the Brink!

I’m so excited for today’s episode, as it’s inspired by a delightful book that focuses on the art of designing one’s home while speaking to my Francophile heart. The book is “Home Sweet Maison: The French Art of Making a Home” by Danielle Postel-Vinay, and what a delight it is!  Much about the French way of living aligns with what I try to emphasize here at Life On the Brink: the celebration of the everyday, finding comfort in curated rituals, and emphasis on conversation and culture, among others. To that end, I have carefully combed through this book, making note of the things that I either have already enjoyed in my home or am now inspired to incorporate as I continue to renovate and decorate.

This episodes includes:
-ways to highlight the living and cooking spaces
-embracing the joy of mealtime rituals
-living with both thrift and luxury
-new organization techniques
-ways to connect your home to those in it

Plus, this week's Little Joy (actually two!) are the season premiers of some fantastic summer shows, and I'm sharing a classic French album to bring a whimsical atmosphere to your home.

Date Night: ideas for fun, excitement and closeness (on a budget)27 Jul 202300:37:02

Hello hello, and welcome to Episode 94 of Life On the Brink!

Even as we cultivate our beautiful daily lives, every now and then life calls for a bit of elevation and celebration. Today we’re talking about one such celebration: Date Night.
Sometimes it’s easy to do the same (and sometimes expensive) things, and suddenly an experience that was designed to elevate you outside your normal routine becomes a routine in itself. How do we create a fun and satisfying night with your sweetheart, even after many years together?
Expense is by no means the greatest determining factor, and today I’m sharing lots of Date Night ideas that, despite their modest budget, can make for an exciting and fun evening.

In this episode I'm sharing:
-what makes a "good" date night
-scientific findings about closeness and relationship growth
-recipes for a night in
-lots of local date ideas to try in your area
-ways to converse to learn more about your partner

Plus, this week's Little Joy was an unexpected moment at work, and I'm sharing an old  album by one of my favorite groups of all time.

A Tin of Sardines: summer storytime + being open to new things22 Jun 202300:29:40

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 91 of Life On the Brink!

Today I return to the podcast after a week of playing music on the road! Naturally, the past week has been so interesting and so different from my usual routine of garden-tending and grocery shopping, and the change of pace has re-introduced some very important aspects of living well that I sometimes forget about. Namely, being open to the “new” or “unusual,” and just embracing each moment as it comes.

This week I’d like to share a few of those moments (including the title sardines) and how they have refreshed my outlook on the rest of this summer season.

Plus, this week's Little Joy is a simple item that has filled my kitchen with coziness, and I have lots of cool music to share as well.

You Have Permission To Enjoy Your Life! (thoughts on productivity and guilt)08 Jun 202300:29:10

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 90 of Life On the Brink!

Have you ever felt guilty for having an easy day? For not getting enough done?
As we enter into the new summer season, there’s so much to celebrate and enjoy. So much, in fact, that at times I feel pressure to get out there and enjoy it all! We’re entering a less structured time of year (which is so lovely), and whenever I’m in a season where less is required of my time I can really get into my head about what to do with every hour of the day.
Without goals to meet, deadlines to make, or achievements to collect, what is left of our lives?

SO so much more, my friend, so today I simply hope to encourage you. This week has been a bit of an adjustment, and in some ways has been really easy, so let’s talk about how to enjoy that ease rather than feel guilty for our own lives.

Plus, this week's Little Joy was a true welcome to the start of summer, and I'm sharing an album of vocal jazz that's almost 100 years old!

During the winter season, there are some rituals that become even more essential, and I often find skincare becoming a higher priority. As spring approaches, it’s a wonderful time to look at your skincare routine to help determine what’s working for you and to pay attention to what your skin needs.

In this episode I'm talking all about:

Kitchen “Gadgets” That I Actually Use02 Feb 202300:33:45

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 82 of Life On the Brink!

I love cooking, and the organization of my kitchen has always been a priority, especially since the space is quite small. Though I'm creative with the storage, I’ve really had to prioritize what I keep in my small kitchen.

Of course, there are the pots and pans, knives and cutting boards, cooking utensils and baking dishes, but I’ve also made room for a few more specialized tools.
Now, I know that these days there’s a gadget for absolutely every cooking task imaginable, most of which I deem entirely unnecessary. There are a few interesting pieces of cookware, though, that have remained staples in this tiny kitchen and are definitely going to be prioritized in our new home.

In this episode I'm sharing my Top 10 kitchen "gadgets," along with a few timeless pieces that I have yet to try.
Plus, this week's Little Joy is a return to a classic comfort drink, and I have a playlist for romanticizing your time in the kitchen.

Taking Care of Yourself When You Feel Overwhelmed, Anxious or Burnt Out19 Jan 202300:35:21

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 80 of Life On the Brink!

While it's not uncommon for us to need a few sick days during the winter, I think that probably most of our "rough days" aren't due to physical illness or ailment, but rather a mental and emotional place.  It's very easy to get in our own heads, to overthink and overanalyze, becoming overwhelmed. The winter season, or perhaps a new transition or challenge, can certainly make things a little more tricky. Sound familiar?

Well, friend, you are not alone, and while this podcast is a place where we consistently examine and adjust and reflect upon our lives in order to better cherish our everyday lives, sometimes we need a little extra help.

In this episode I'm sharing:
-how to approach a day when you feel overwhelmed
-simple ways to bring a bit of comfort to your day
-things that have personally helped me (even this week!) in the
midst of a big transition
-reminders to be kind to yourself

Plus, this week's Little Joy is my new comfort show, and I'm sharing an album of winter-inspired music that is gentle and sweet.

Favorite Books of 2022!12 Jan 202300:36:31

Hello hello, welcome to Episode 79 of Life On the Brink, and Happy New Year!

It’s time again for one of my favorite episodes: the annual book recap! Today I’m sharing all of the best books I read in 2022, as well as some of your top-rated reads.

Last year I had a goal to read 30 books, and ended up reading 35! I don’t make a lot of goals or resolutions when it comes to the New Year, but I really enjoy making this reading goal each year because it’s a hobby that I’m quick to forget I love. I’ve slowly made reading a part of my life again over the past couple of years, and it’s just so enjoyable, so this goal simply serves to challenge me to do more of what I love.

And if you, like me, want to read even more in 2023, I have a lovely list of books to get you started!

Plus, this week's Little Joy is a bookish moment I had in the middle of a very special trip, and I'm sharing a playlist of soundtracks to make your winter reading a bit more magical.
