Are You Living a Longpath View? with Ari Wallach29 Dec 202200:54:50

EPISODE SUMMARY:

How do we connect with other humans? How do we connect with ourselves?

Today, I talk with Ari Wallach, a futurist and social systems strategist. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Longpath Labs, an initiative focused on bringing long-term thinking and coordinated behavior to the individual, organizational, and societal realms in order to ensure humanity flourishes on an ecologically-thriving planet Earth for centuries to come. Ari is the author of “Longpath: Becoming the Great Ancestors Our Future Needs.”

Listen in to hear how Ari defines longpath, how we should be examining our own futures, and more.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:19] Longpath is a verb in the sense that it’s an applied mindset. Most people think of a futurist as someone who is projecting into the future; Ari isn’t that type of futurist, he doesn’t predict. Longpath is a way of navigating those intertidal moments, those moments that are chaotic and in flux.

  • [11:22] Using the word “surviving” automatically trips the limbic system, and in that moment we become very short-term thinkers. When we become more fear-based in our approach, we become laser-focused on what’s in front of us. But we need to be thinking of the far future in these moments of chaos.

  • [21:32] First and foremost, figure out who you are. How did you get to this point? Ari talks about desired futures versus examined-desired futures. No one is born thinking they should be a doctor or race car driver. A lot of these pathways are culturally forced onto people. Before you can start to think about what future you want to live in, you have to step back and examine what got you thinking that way in the first place.

  • [32:09] When we had the Copernican revolution, it led us to more human freedom and enlightened thinking, but we eradicated the vibrational, mystical realm. We said if you can measure it, great; if you can’t, it’s terrible. In this intertidal moment we’re realizing we can have both.

  • [37:52] Think of ourselves less in a 100-yard race and more in a marathon in which we’re holding the baton for the next generation. We need to T-up the next generation so they’re that much higher up on the ladder when it comes to flourishing. This will have us thinking less as individuals and tie us to a more extensive timeframe.

  • [39:39] How you say goodbye to your children in the morning, how you treat your partner, your colleagues, the person who checks your badge- those things matter not just in the moment. How you interact with them changes them and how they interact with other people.

  • [40:09] What does it mean for an emotion to go viral? An emotion like compassion, empathy, awe, or hope? If you’re embedding that in your everyday small interactions with other people and yourself, that could go viral. By doing that, we can change the soil from which we build solutions in order to build better tomorrows.
  • [42:49] As a culture we lack death awareness. Ari and Amy discuss how our culture is death-averse and the importance of engaging in activities that acknowledge our death so we can better prepare ourselves and future generations for what the world should look like. All of culture is our way of dealing with impermanence. We are the only species that becomes aware of our death, and it paralyzes us.

  • [47:14] How Ari recommends focusing on life-affirming experiences that make the world a better place.

  • [49:14] Death is in the zeitgeist right now due to COVID-19 and people are searching to understand the moment we are in and how they can find more meaning and purpose in their own life.

  • [50:30] Understanding the questions we are asking ourselves about how to be on the Longpath. Ari discusses how the third paragraph of the obituary is very important to thinking about how we live our life. Ari shares some of the biggest questions we should actually be asking ourselves.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

How can death be a doorway?

Today I talk with Karen V. Johnson. Karen is a graduate of Georgetown Law Center and a former Fulbright Scholar in Afghanistan. She holds Master’s Degrees in both Public Health and Public International Affairs. She’s a retired Administrative Law Judge of more than 30 years, former Army officer (retired), a master practitioner of energy medicine, and author of “Living Grieving: Using Energy Medicine to Alchemize Grief and Loss.”

Listen in to hear Karen’s journey from her left-brained world into spirituality, how she uses the four winds medicine wheel, and how you can get in touch with your inner divine too.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [1:30] Talk about a shift! Karen was living a left-brained life in Washington, DC working as a Federal Judge, when her 27 year old son tragically died from a heroin overdose. Karen says sometimes death is a doorway to a spiritual life. Shortly after his death, Karen experienced an afterlife visitation from her son, started sensing and seeing him, and then started seeing other spirits. She now helps “stuck” spirits cross over.

  • [9:10] How to edge yourself toward your own psychic sense of other realms: first get over the hurdle of disbelieving and allow yourself to tune into your intuition. For most of us, our intuition has been shut off because over the years we’ve been told to focus on the facts. Karen tells people to imagine saying to your left brain, “Thank you for all you’ve done, but I want to play with my right brain.” Set your intention. Open your heart.

  • [10:30] Karen’s honest discussion of how severe her grief became, eventually feeling desperately suicidal. A spiritual course in Joshua Tree, California turned things around for her. She began her spiritual journey.

  • [14:10] Karen’s book, “Living Grief” is based on Indigenous medicine wheels as applied to grief. There are four directions (north, east, west and south) and four practices associated with each direction; therefore, 16 ways to journey from being stuck in our grief to a place of rebirth. We can create a new life out of the ashes that honors our loved ones.

  • [16:00] Karen’s healing practice uses ceremony. In the West, we understand ceremony when we walk into a temple or a church: there are candles and we get a feeling of that sacred place and the divine. Even if we’re not a member of that religion, we might go light a candle. Karen helps mirror that experience of the divine by getting people from their reptilian brain to their ceremonial brain in the neocortex.

  • [25:45] By releasing the chatter in our minds and being in stillness, we can experience the divinity within us. We’re not just physical creatures. We have a spiritual, transcendent element that we want to get in touch with and allow to guide us.

  • [30:01] Indigineous alchemy. What if we’re wired for transformation? What if we have this inherent nature that looks for transformation and change?  By keeping ourselves stuck, we’re actually holding in negative energy that affects our bodies.

  • [35:10] Psychopomps are beings that can go between realms; Karen leaves this realm and goes in the in-between to help souls transition to the other side.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

What does it mean to truly let go? Does letting go mean your life goes off the rails? Or will you better align with the flow of life and find it easier to manifest outcomes?

Listen in to hear psychologist and medium Dr. Amy Robbins share two of her channeled, inspired insights on the topic of letting go.

As a newsletter subscriber you will receive Amy’s Soul Wisdoms every two weeks. When you subscribe on Amy’s website here you will receive a free workbook of Amy’s previously channeled Soul Wisdoms to prompt your own inner work.

Amy’s Soul Wisdom:

  • [2:07] Profound change is needed in the world. What has been hidden -- or what has been unconscious -- is currently being brought into conscious awareness. Today’s tumultuous times mean change is underway – the work of which can be painful and difficult. Before change there is challenge and difficulty. And then revelation after revelation. You don’t need all the answers right now, just keep asking the questions.

  • [3:22] Letting go does not mean giving up. Rather, it means becoming unstuck. It means calling what you wish to experience to you. You can call experience into your life; your imagination becomes your reality. Think about what your life has the potential to become and watch it manifest.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

What does it mean to be tangled?

Today we talk with Sensei Koshin Paley Ellison, MFA, LMSW, DMIN, a Zen teacher, Jungian psychotherapist, ACPE Certified Chaplaincy Educator, and author of “Untangled: Walking the Eightfold Path to Clarity, Courage, and Compassion.” After more than a decade as a chaplain and psychotherapist, Koshin co-founded the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care, which offers contemplative approaches to care through education, care-partnering, and Zen practice.

Listen in to hear what Sensei Koshin believes is the foundation of belonging and how to show others compassion.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:08] To be tangled is a story we all know; it’s when we’re living in a story and situation where we feel anxious, overwhelmed, and have a sense of unease. Many of us live like this just under the surface of what we think is going well.

  • [7:22] In the Zen tradition, they often say that if you want to work with a practice to do it fully for 30 years and then evaluate how it’s going. This view says it takes time to undo our habits.

  • [9:38] Another Zen teaching is: you’ll never be free until you can be still with your pain. Once you are able, you learn to relax in the face of pain and discomfort.

  • [13:59] Epigenetic trauma – including Holocaust trauma - being passed down over generations. For a long time, Koshin identified as a victim of abuse, resulting in a lack of trust, and a lack of alignment between his actions and his words.

  • [20:00] Compassion is about connecting to others and suffering with one another. It is the beginning of love: to realize it’s amazing that we exist, that we all struggle with things, and it’s a miracle that we can look at each other and be alive in this world. This is also the foundation of belonging and an antidote to loneliness.

  • [22:18] Dr. Amy observes it’s increasingly difficult to find people who are willing to be truly vulnerable and who are willing to say, “I’m not having the best day today.” The facades seem to keep going up and up despite these feelings of loneliness and disconnection, which feel disingenuous.

  • [24:40] Find your five. Ask yourself who in your life will show up for you no matter what. If you don’t have five, start with one. Practice how to have relationships that are meaningful with these people in your life.

  • [26:29] Seated meditation in the midst of our lives is very powerful. Practice meditation to feel grounded all the time, so that everywhere and every time in your life can be a place of practice. The posture of how we hold ourselves creates the container for living clearly and in the time of our lives.

  • [28:29] Enlightenment means to bring in light. The path of mystery. Ask yourself, “What am I engaged in that brings in light, clarity, courage, and compassion?” For Koshin, it’s when his values and actions are aligned and he is feeling clear.

  • [30:45] Koshin’s experiences with people who are approaching death. What he finds most amazing is that each person’s passing is unique to them. What causes the greatest end-of-life regret is a lack of courage and compassion in life.

The Power of Being Ordinary with Dr. Ronald Siegel08 Dec 202200:34:52

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Have you ever felt jealousy, stress or even anger on social media, but you keep right on scrolling? What about feelings of sadness and loneliness? How do you usually cope with these feelings? Well maybe the secret is to remind yourself that you're ordinary…

Today we talk with Dr. Ronald Siegel, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School, serving on the Board of Directors and faculty of the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. He serves on the faculties of the Center for Mindfulness and Compassion at the Cambridge Health Alliance and the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He has written and edited several books; his most recent “The Extraordinary Gift of Being Ordinary” is out now.

Listen in to hear what it means to be ordinary, how we balance conspicuous consumption vs. conspicuous frugality, the greatest informer of how to live, and the key to joy.

Topics We Discuss:

[3:40] Social media presents an unrealistic picture vs. ordinary day-to-day  life. Constant self-monitoring may be genetic. Obsession with selfies and how much we lose the present by wanting to present it perfectly

[05:52] We have an instinct for social connection. What social media likes do to the brain and our emotions. How we compare ourselves to others and the constant habit to evaluate our life.

[06:40] Being out with friends is a completely different experience. Safe social connection is where we stop trying to impress, and preoccupations with self fall away so we can open up and be vulnerable.

[7:58] The idea of a “vulnerability hangover” after opening up maybe too much. Metacognitive awareness is the antidote:  the ability to see a thought as just a thought.

[9:30] The key to well being is the quality of our relationships.

[11:35] Happiness vs. self acceptance or well-being. Allowing feelings to come and go, and allow the emotions to move through us. . The fast changing emotions dn the how much they fluctuate in the day. Once we see how much our emotions can be altered throughout the day, it is all programmable.

[13:10] Just like physical health is about getting sick and getting well again, emotional health is about feeling the range of emotions, including less tolerable emotions, and being able to recover and rebalance.

[14:00] A mindfulness exercise. Allowing thoughts and emotions to flow in and out diffuses intensity.

[19:30] Balancing conspicuous consumption vs. conspicuous frugality. Buying luxury items to show off that we can buy them vs. showing off that we are “enlightened” enough not to care about physical things.  Marketing and consumerism (and even anti-consumerism) and society’s obsession with tiers and rankings.

[23:05] Self-esteem vs. self-compassion. How to support your child during and after an upsetting event. We must learn to process these emotions and not try to protect others from them, which prolongs the exposure to the trauma.

[28:18] Death is the greatest informer for how to live better. Awareness of death is a great way to disconnect from the self-esteem roller coaster. All things change. Death is a powerful leveler.

[30:25] Three pronged approach to embracing being ordinary: work with 1) heads, 2) hearts, and 3) habits. 1) Where did I get the idea that being smarter/prettier/richer is better? See the folly in being caught in these patterns. 2) Open to the hurt and disappointment to really feel them and then release them. 3) Evaluate where we put our energies. Are we going to jump on social media or call a friend?

[3:35] As someone who menstruates, what does understanding how astrology aligns with your monthly cycle look like? It takes a lot of the pressure off when you are able to sync your body cycle with your astrological cycle and your business cycle.

[5:30] In your business, you can’t do what you did in year one in year five. You have to be smarter about how you use your energy in a more purposeful way to move forward.

[7:20] The Sacred Pause - Using the lens of the pandemic to review how your attention is contributing to output.

[9:00] Seeing business as one of the expressions of nature. If nature was a business, how would nature run?

[9:20] Our “pulls” that you naturally feel and may not notice how they are related to your cycles.

[10:25] How Jynnette found her calling/received a call. She didn’t choose this, she was pushed towards it.

[12:30]  The line between intuition and desperation can be very thin.

[13:42] Jynnette shares her process of creation and how/why she integrates dance in her work.

[14:50] Surrendering is always the hardest piece after you’ve put in all the work. Jynnette talks about how to surrender and coming to terms with it.

[16:10] Aligning your calendar with the ovulation stage of your menstrual cycle.

[17:18] Jynnette walks through the phases of the moon and the menstrual cycle so both those who menstruate and those who don’t can gain value from planning ahead. She shares the feelings you may find coming up and how to play to your strengths in each.

[20:23] Amy’s speed round questions: Spirituality means? What is something most people don’t know about you? What is one thing you are looking forward to right now? What are you grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual healing practice? What is the most transformative experience of your life?

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Have you ever felt an instant connection with someone? Even when circumstances are stacked against that person taking on a significant role in your life?

Today we talk with Colleen Hildebrand, a Life, Death and the Space Between podcast listener who first contacted Dr. Amy Robbins with her story, intending for it to be a ghost story. Dr Robbins was pulled to reach out to Colleen and invite her in as a guest on the show.

Colleen’s book, “In the Ether” is an earthly love story that continues beyond death. Her goal with the book was to illuminate the struggle on the path toward unconditional love.

Listen in to hear how Colleen followed the pull of her intuition to write her book, and her arc toward living a more spiritual life full of signs and inexplicable otherworldly experiences.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [0:22] Colleen’s bio.

  • [3:25] Dr. Robbins and Colleen connected after Colleen submitted the idea for a Life, Death and the Space Between podcast ghost story.

  • [4:35] Tragic and stormy love story between Colleen’s teenage daughter Abby and Ryan, an older active duty US Marine. Ryan’s violent episode with PTSD and subsequent felony conviction.

  • [6:00]  Colleen and Ryan’s continuing connection and evolving mother/son type relationship. Colleen’s faith in Ryan as a young person who wanted to do the right thing, but didn’t quite know what the right thing(s) were. Colleen wrote “In the Ether” about Abby and Ryan’s relationship, and Colleen and Ryan’s.

  • [8:40] An overwhelming message Colleen heard to “be a mother to him” and the connection to the 90’s song “Champagne Supernova”.

  • [10:28]  Ryan broke his neck in a diving accident, the aftermath of the sudden tragedy in the hospital, and how Colleen started hearing from Ryan while he lay unconscious in the ICU. Colleen continued to hear from Ryan after his death.

  • [14:30] Colleen felt compelled to contact a medium - they validated her communication from Ryan across the veil. Colleen asked Ryan for very specific signs, and Ryan delivered again and again.

  • [18:10] How Ryan kept his promise – even after his death – to promote Colleen’s book through social media. Abby’s viral TikTok dragonfly video got millions of views.

  • [23:20] How love transcends death. Colleen’s multiple spiritual experiences throughout her life have opened her in ways she never imagined — including a premonition of Ryan’s death.

  • [24:40] Colleen’s path toward a more spiritual life: experiencing the inexplicable, embracing it, cultivating it, and ultimately growing in awareness and connection.

When You're Falling, Dive with Mark Matousek10 Nov 202200:40:40

WHEN YOU’RE FALLING, DIVE with MARK MATOUSEK

“There seems to be an inexplicable link to facing our own impermanence and awakening spiritually… Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? What’s the purpose of all this? Until we are shaken out of the status quo, we don’t ordinarily ask those questions voluntarily. I like to say that most people are dragged kicking and screaming onto the spiritual path. And I really think that that’s true.“ [7:14] – author Mark Matousek

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Do you journal?

Today we talk with Mark Matousek, a bestselling author, teacher, and speaker whose work focuses on personal awakening and creative excellence through transformational writing and self-inquiry.

Mark is the award-winning author of seven books, including “Sex Death Enlightenment: A True Story”. His articles have appeared in The New Yorker and O: The Oprah Magazine. His book, “When You’re Falling, Dive: Lessons in the Art of Living” was just re-released.

Listen in to hear how Mark integrates being in the world, being in relationships, and making a living, without compromising his values and what matters to him most.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [0:20] Amy introduces Mark Matousek.

  • [3:40] Mark describes how he was a spiritual seeker starting in childhood. How unanswered questions and unaddressed suffering, followed by a 5-years-to-live diagnosis accelerated his spiritual growth.

  • [6:44] Mark feels that spiritual unfolding is linked to existential crisis.

  • [8:28] Mark discusses spiritual bypassing – running from vs. running into whatever ongoing crisis you are experiencing. Seeking spirituality outside of yourself vs. finding answers within.

  • [10:18] Mark integrated his profoundly spiritual experiences. Contrary to his earlier belief that spiritual awakening meant not feeling pain, he learned that the more he evolved, the more deeply he felt both joy and pain.

  • [14:33] The most common story people tell themselves to keep them spiritually stuck is the victim story: that life is happening TO them.

  • [16:07] Gratitude is the antidote to self-pity.  But what if someone is NOT glad to be here, to be alive?

  • [17:54] Mark’s process of writing as a self-examination tool. How truth telling, including the truth about the messiness of being human, changes the story we tell ourselves and other people.

  • [19:40] Mark’s favorite lesson from the book: if you’re willing to change and let go of what has been, then it’s possible to be healed and move forward within any situation.

  • [22:00] The importance of experiencing awe and wonder. Fall colors. Sunrise. Sunset.

  • [27:09] What his teacher’s question, “Do you go through the mountain or around the mountain?” means to Mark. The answer is often anti-Western culture.

  • [29:56] Humanity’s relationship with Mother Earth. The planet will be fine. Humanity’s future is what is uncertain.

  • [34:48] Everyday experiences are material for self-inquiry. These spiritual practices take you to the core of what you care about. All of our choices and thoughts can raise consciousness, and raise awareness.

  • [37:00] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What do you believe happens when we die? PTS Dreams with Linda Yael Schiller03 Nov 202200:47:53

PTS DREAMS with LINDA YAEL SCHILLER

“This is like free therapy every night. If you can remember your dreams, capture them and write them down, you can bring them into your therapy session, but you can also work with your partner, with your friends in a dream circle -- to unravel and unpack the meanings and the messages from your dreams -- you get a real jumpstart on moving forward in your life.“ [19:47] – Linda Yael Schiller

“Even Carl Jung famously said he needed help interpreting his own dreams. We all have blind spots. None of us can see the back of our own heads… so working in therapy or with others in a dream group is key to being able to unpack  the whole dream.” [28:14] – Linda Yael Schiller

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Do you or someone you care for suffer from PTSD, that is, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?

Today, the PTSD label is more common than ever.

In today’s episode, we talk with Linda Yael Schiller, MSW, LICSW, a psychotherapist, consultant, supervisor, and trainer in Watertown, Massachusetts. Linda integrates traditional therapeutic styles and techniques with expressive energy psychology, and body-based modalities, providing support for healing at all levels of the self: mind, body, heart, and spirit.

Her philosophy of treatment incorporates both deep healing at the source and practical coaching for daily life issues and dilemmas.

Linda also works deeply with dreamwork, and offers a group dream circle, individual consultation, and training for professionals on working with dreams. Linda’s book is “PTS Dreams: Transform your Nightmares through Healing Dreamwork”.

Listen in to hear how to transform PTSD using dreamwork.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [0:25] Amy introduces Linda and her credentials and the modalities of work.

  • [2:43] Dreams vs. nightmares. They all “rinse out” our experiences, and an opportunity for deep healing from this life and perhaps previous lifetimes. Dream components: storyline, setting, and emotional narrative.

  • [8:07] Trauma vs PTSD. “Big T” trauma, vs. “Little T” trauma. The extent to which we’re supported, believed, and accepted following trauma influences long-term effects.

  • [14:04] Trauma-based nightmare vs. a “normal” nightmare. Normal childhood development can bring on “normal” nightmares.

  • [18:21] What if I don’t remember my dreams? We all have 5-7 REM cycles overnight. We all have access to free therapy if we just unravel and unpack our dreams, perhaps in a dream circle with friends.

  • [20:48] The fragile fabric of dreams. How to remember your dreams.

  • [23:13] Linda uses a layered approach to unpack and interpret dreams using the acronym PRDS. (Based on the Biblical Hebrew word Pardes, meaning "orchard" or "garden”.) Dream interpretation is very personal, not something you can look up in a book. A therapist cannot tell you what your dream means, but they can help you find the deeper layers of meaning.

  • [33:48] How vivid, luminous, long-remembered dreams may be considered visitations. Amy’s own experiences with dream visitations.

  • [37:00] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?

Today we talk with Rachel Engstrom - a health education specialist and widow’s advocate, who found herself widowed at age 31. She authored “Wife, Widow, Now What?” with a fresh, witty, and authentic voice.  Her book is an invaluable resource for cancer spouses, and anyone navigating the process of losing a loved one, or supporting a loved one after a loss.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [3:38] Rachel dives into her journey meeting, marrying, and later losing her husband.
  • [8:05] How Rachel came to write her book as a guide for someone going through the loss of a spouse, or someone who maybe doesn’t know how to support a loved one suffering a loss. It’s a love story toolbox: logistics around health insurance, disability, talking to their employer, funeral arrangements, life insurance, how to ask for help, and more.
  • [11:25] Rachel discusses how music helped her cope.
  • [15:32] In hindsight, what Rachel would have done differently.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Have you ever needed to talk with a child about death? How easy or hard is it to talk about someone you loved and lost?

Today we talk with Sherrie Barch, CEO of two Forbes' ranked top executive search firms and a leadership consulting company, and an expert in leadership, team development, and diversity.

Sherrie’s new book “Heaven’s Bell” shows us how to talk about death. It was written for teens but enjoyed by people of all ages.  “Ring to Remember”, the partner journal to the book was just released on Father’s Day….with a special sign from above.

Listen in to hear how to create a safe space to talk about Amy’s favorite subject: death.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [3:35] How Sherrie’s experience as a leader, having the difficult conversations, naturally led her to having the difficult conversations about death with young people.

  • [6:18] Curiosity and creativity led CEO Sherrie to write “Heaven’s Bell”, a fable about love and friendship that lasts beyond the physical body. Her own experiences informed her writing.

  • [12:08] The importance of talking about death especially during COVID years, and especially with younger people. How Sherrie’s story creates a safe place to experience and talk about one’s emotions around grief and loss.

  • [17:08] “Ring to Remember”, Sherrie’s partner journal to the “Heaven’s Bell” was created to keep the conversation going. Dedicated to her two father figures, it dropped on Father’s Day.

  • [20:30] How this work has shifted Sherrie’s work as a CEO. Leadership doesn’t mean knowing or finding all the answers. Leadership means creating space, with those curious, courageous conversations. Hopefully healing follows.

  • [24:40] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? Episode Summary:

For the longest time, this Life, Death and the Space Between listener noticed the numbers 8 and 11. On license plates. On mailboxes. Everywhere. She feels the numbers 8 and 11 have led her spiritually to where she is today. For her, this number means her angels are watching over her, and that she is exactly where she needs to be.

Finding Your True Voice with Dr. Fred Moss13 Oct 202200:49:23

FINDING YOUR TRUE VOICE with DR. FRED MOSS

“Being a human being today means the same thing it meant in Socrates time, same as it meant in 1492.” [4:07]

“Connecting, being actually resonant with another group or another person is really where the source of healing comes from. And we all need to heal.” [5:59]

“Communication, connection and creativity are at the heart of all healing.” [10:20]

– psychiatrist Dr. Fred Moss

Episode Summary:

Are you living your most authentic life? Do you feel heard? Your voice matters. Your voice can heal.

So says psychiatrist Dr. Fred Moss. He is a firm believer that conversation, communication, creativity, and human connection are ultimately at the source of all healing.

Listen in to hear this fascinating conversation about the reality of psychiatric medicines. (Spoiler alert: they’re not always the best way forward.) Learn simple and in-reach steps toward living your very uniquely authentic life.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [3:59] Being a human is the same as it has been for all of humanity. Theology and the old philosophers got it right, and it is timeless.

  • [6:41] Dr. Fred’s born desire for human communication, connection and creativity – via California in the 1970s, dropping out of college a couple times, and observing the barbaric use of drugs to stifle mentally ill children - drove him to psychiatry.

  • [12:38] Introduced in 1987, Prozac changed the field of psychiatry. The idea emerged that if you were uncomfortable, there was something wrong with you.

  • [14:05] Dr. Fred describes the “soul-splitting” reality of writing thousands of psychiatric prescriptions for patients. In 2006 Dr. Fred started taking people OFF medicine.

  • [15:12] Some people benefit from psychiatric medicines. But many more suffer from medicines. Many people are paying a big price: removing all feelings so they don’t feel anxious or depressed. Antidepressants by design worsen depression. When people discontinue psychiatric meds, their symptoms will spike. This is a well understood response.

  • [19:47]  Psychopharmacology has the greatest profit margin in the history of planet Earth. We are expected to feel neutral or pleasant.

  • [22:33] Even if you’re totally miserable – there may be nothing wrong with you! We are all struggling.

  • [25:54] The alternative Dr. Fred Moss recommends: authenticity, finding and presenting your true self. Being careful with what we put into our systems. Finding a mindfulness practice. Recognizing what it means to be human.  Connecting with another.

  • [28:22] Giving up sometimes -- for a while – is part of the human experience. Connecting with others through inquiry, curiosity, and wonder is key. Being with just yourself means you can only rehash your old stuff.

  • [32:02] Recognizing authenticity vs. inauthenticity is innate. We can see pretension. We can see duplicity. Authenticity feels resonant. We can feel it.

  • [34:52] The instantaneous healing when Dr Fred connects with prisoners or inpatients who have not been heard, maybe for decades.

  • [35:54] Dr. Moss’ “Creative Eight”: art, music, dancing, singing, drama, cooking, writing, and gardening. When creating, negative symptoms disappear. Try doing three of these each day for one minute.

  • [40:42] The power of community. Find Your True Voice community.

  • [43:42] Without a true voice you will never be known. Without a voice you can be herded. But not heard.

  • [44:55] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?

MANIFESTATION BOOK ONE with PAUL SELIG

“The guides say the that books are energetic transmissions that work directly with the reader. And I believe that to be true.”

“This isn’t sort of feel-good new age-y stuff. I wish it was sometimes. I’m never going to be on a cruise ship with this stuff; it’s too challenging.”

“Do something good for someone every day. And don’t tell anyone.”

“Everything we experience we are in co-resonance with, because we are experiencing it. As you shift your consciousness higher, you are claiming a new world into being, and what you see changes as a result.

“Fear and knowing do not coexist.”

EPISODE SUMMARY:

How would you like a direct connection to source?

Today we talk with Paul Selig, considered one of the foremost spiritual channels working today.  In his ten breakthrough works of channeled literature including “I am the Word” (2010) and his newest, “Resurrection” (2022), he has recorded an extraordinary program for personal and planetary evolution as humankind awakens to its own divine nature.

Born in NYC, Paul received his master’s degree from Yale.  He lives in Maui, Hawaii and offers channeled workshops internationally.

Wow. Just wow. What a conversation.

Listen in to hear what source wants to tell you…

Topics We Discuss:

  • [4:05] Paul differentiates inspiration with channeled information.

  • [9:11] The books are equally valuable experiences: a reading vs. listening to an audio book. The guides say the that books are energetic transmissions that work directly with the reader.

  • [13:00] Paul describes what the guides mean by the focus of this book: “resurrection” and ”the upper room”. We are living in an octave; we know ourselves in this collective reality. The upper room is the next octave, Christconsciousness, where fear does not exist.  The resurrected self abides in the upper room -- in the world but not of it.

  • [19:15] One of Paul’s first channeled messages: “Freedom will come when the throne relinquishes his king.” The small self (ego) sits on the throne.

  • [22:00] Dying and leaving the body doesn’t necessarily result in union with source. Conversely, when manifested in human form, you can experience yourself in union with source.

  • [27:45] The belief in separation – that we are separate from source - is being dismantled now, and we are participating in that dismantling. Reality is being re-seen and re-known in a collective way today.

  • [31:44] Love is an expression of God. An expression of source. Paul’s book “The Book of Love and Creation” (2012) is focused the topic of love. Other of Paul’s books address love as well.

  • [33:17] Paul’s very personal, very demanding experience during channeling and producing his books. He has channeled eleven books in eleven years! (His eleventh is in work.)

  • [38:09] Humans are on the brink - as a species - of radical change, say the guides. And that humanity has decided on a higher level to “make it”.

  • [41:10] Lack comes from a belief in separation; a belief that there is not going to be enough.

  • [44:10] Given the state of our world, how you can avoid overwhelm.

  • [46:45] Everything you see, in your personal world or in the collective world, you are party to, you are in vibrational accord with. As you shift your consciousness higher, you are claiming a new world into being, and what you see changes as a result. This is how you can lift the collective experience.

Ever heard of Indian palm leaf readings? We hadn’t either!

Today we talk with Dr. Q Moayad whose passion project is to introduce the concept of Indian palm leaf readings – a common occurrence in Southern India – to Westerners.

Part 1: Listen in to hear Dr. Q Moayad, founder of his own Indian Palm Leaf Reading Institute, explain the ancient history and his process.

Part 2: After the interview, Dr. Amy Robbins shares her own personal experience with a palm leaf reading.

Topics We Discuss in Part 1 – The Interview:

  • [0:02] Dr. Robbins introduces Dr. Q Moayad.

  • [3:33] Dr. Q describes his wealthy family leaving everything behind, fleeing Iran in the late 1970’s, and relocating in Vienna, Austria.

  • [4:41] Dr. Q’s experience developing cancer as a teenager living in the fallout of the 1986 nuclear disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine (then Ukraine SSR). How his cancer caused a lifetime of health issues; and ultimately caused him to ask both “Why me, god?” and then when he beat the odds, “Why not me, god?”

  • [9:40] In his spiritual exploration, Dr. Q was exposed to Indian palm leaf readings.

  • [13:40] The history of how 2-3000 years ago South Indian great sages tapped into the Akashic records to capture symbolic messages on the leaves of palm trees.

  • [21:50] The Indian Palm Leaf Institutes online process for providing a spiritual seeker a reading: 1) find a bundle, 2) matching to an individual, and 3) the reading.

Topics in Part 2 – Dr. Amy Robbins’ Experience:

  • [33:20] Several months after the interview in Part 1, Amy describes her personal experience with an Indian palm leaf reading.

EPISODE SUMMARY:

Do genealogy and mediumship seem like strange bedfellows? Maybe. Maybe not.

Today we talk with Sharon DeBartolo Carmack, a Certified Genealogist® with an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing. She has a Certificate in Demonstrating Mediumship and an Advanced Academic Diploma from the Spiritualists’ National Union in the U.K. To her knowledge, she is the only person in the U.S. to have credentials in both mediumship and genealogy.

Listen in to hear how Sharon’s determination to find another way to connect with our ancestors paid off.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [3:28] Sharon’s natural transition from genealogy to mediumship.

  • [8:07]  Different from Amy’s experiences where spirit spontaneously came to Amy, Sharon had a strong desire to pursue mediumship. She tried multiple paths (reiki, shamanism), but after finding a development circle and a spiritual mentor, things clicked.

  • [13:55] Sharon’s “spiritual internship”, doing 100 free telephone readings over several months.

  • [16:27] Finding the right school and teacher was critical.

  • [17:46] Amy talks about her new offering: 30/60/90 minute spiritual consultations. Not a therapy session, not a medium reading, but somewhere in between. Reach out at https://www.dramyrobbins.com/services

  • [21:20] Sharon asserts confidence in mediumship comes from knowing how to respond to a “no” from the person being read.

  • [27:08] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?

  • [29:40]  Why Sharon does not do private readings, but rather does group demonstrations.

  • [30:58] How our loved ones and ancestors are together in the spirit world. No one dies alone.

INTERDIMENSIONAL LIGHT BEINGS with ELIZABETH APRIL

Episode Summary:

What do you feel when you hear about aliens? Does the idea invoke fear? Does it maybe all sounds like nonsense? How would you like to hear from someone who regularly communicates with what she calls “off-planet interdimensional light beings”?

Today we talk with Elizabeth April, clairvoyant, truth seeker, expert past life regressionist, intuitive psychic, quantum teacher, paradigm shifter, best-selling author, and badass millennial influencer.

Above all, her mission is to help humanity awaken by expanding minds to the infinite possibilities of the universe, through private readings ranging from celebrity clientele to those among her 300K+ online community.  Most recently, Elizabeth brought her expertise to the small screen as a featured guest on Unidentified with Demi Lovato (NBC’s Peacock TV).

Prepare to have your mind blown!

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:24] Elizabeth’s metaphysical abilities were apparent at a small child: hearing spirits, seeing ghosts, picking up peoples’ energy. BTW, she feels most all children have these abilities.

  • [5:40] How a past life regression experience at age 16, followed by a fully conscious abduction by interdimensional beings at age 18, brought her current reality into clear view.

  • [8:20] Elizabeth’s experience with off-planet interdimensional beings, aka aliens, aka extraterrestrials. The Galactic Federation.

  • [12:35] Overview of off-planet beings who originate from “off-planet”. Elizabeth describes 12 dimensions of the universe. The ultimate goal of experiencing the 12 dimensions is returning to source.

  • [17:31]  Where Elizabeth believes the soul goes when we die.  She sometimes helps souls who are stuck in a purgatory type place. She says all souls meet with loved ones who have crossed over, their guardian angel and guides, and experience a life review.

  • [20:09] Elizabeth’s experience with aliens of various dimensions, and what they look like to her. Source has no dimension. Dimensions are containers for an incarnated soul.

  • [25:34] Angelic beings, angels in the 7th dimension. Just as a variety of plants, animals and humans represent 3rd dimensional beings, beings in the multiple dimensions are represented by vast variety.

  • [27:24] Galactic Federation of Light – a universe-wide governing organization that keeps law and order based on universal laws. For example, the law of non-intervention. All dimensional beings are represented. Millions of councils are involved.

  • [31:53] What the Galactic Federation of Light is saying about everything that is happening on planet earth. Between 2020 and 2024 Elizabeth expects an absolute collapse of the parts of the 3rd dimensional reality that are serving the 1%, versus all of humanity. She feels things may get worse before getting better. She expects that in 2025 solutions will emerge – solutions in the areas of energy, plastics, cancer…

  • [36:10] Everything that is not working in the higher frequency, in the unified frequency, is breaking down naturally. Galactic Federation souls have been incarnating to help us – called star seeds, old souls, volunteers. These star seeds feel different.

  • [38:16] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?

  • [41:17] How Elizabeth connects with other beings and dimensions by reaching a trancelike state of equanimity.

HOW TO OPEN UP TO ANGELS with JULIE JANCIUS

Episode Summary:

Do you believe in angels? Or does that sound too “fairy tale” to you? Are you somewhere in the skeptical but curious middle? Do you find yourself wishing you could connect directly and maybe sort it all out once and for all?

Today we talk with Julie Jancius, who helps people awaken spiritually, by helping them remember who they are and what their soul’s purpose is. She helps them identify how fear is holding them back. • [9:22] The notion of oneness – tapping into god/universe/source energy/spirit to feel peace, bliss, ease and grace. Julie asserts you can arrive at the state of oneness by way of a simple morning ritual.  And that god/universe/source energy/spirit leaves us “bread crumbs”.

  • [13:03] How Julie says you know you are at the state of oneness.  What oneness feels like to Julie.

  • [20:07] How to differentiate intuition/guidance from the voice of the ego.

  • [20:41] How society can move away from divisions, and cultivate oneness and understanding. Doing the shadow work on oneself.

  • [24:09]  Guardian angels. Their job is to help us step out of guilt, shame, anxiety and toward purpose, feel ease and love.

– Dr. Amy Robbins, discussing Father Nathan Castle’s work helping souls adjust to the afterlife

Episode Summary:

Death by fires, automobile accidents, shootings, stabbings and drownings? Oh my!

Today we talk with Father Nathan Castle, who over the past 20 years says he has helped at least 250 people who died suddenly adjust to the afterlife. Victims of quick and often violent death came to him in his dreams seeking help. Although such contact with the other side was not something he sought out, Father Nathan has come to believe that providing such help is a responsibility the Holy Spirit has given him.

His books “Afterlife Interrupted”, “Afterlife Interrupted 2” are available now.

Listen in to hear how Father Nathan feels called to do his otherworldly work, in parallel to his service as a Catholic priest.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:24] How victims of Interrupted Death Experiences™, often after violent unnatural deaths contact Father Nathan. How he allows the person to channel through him, helping them heal and ultimately “take on the adventure of the afterlife”.

  • [8:46] What causes souls to get stuck.

  • [12:37] The concept of purgatory. Don’t assume your loved one who died suddenly or violently is “stuck”.

  • [15:46] The details of the healing ceremony, which includes Father Nathan’s co-conscious channeling the voice of the person/soul who needs help moving forward. Guardian angels (aka spirit guides, aka beings of light) participate.

  • [19:18]  What happens to the soul after the Father Nathan’s healing.

  • [20:35] How Father Nathan’s catholic faith interplays with his healing approach. Christianity and Easter. The universality of belief in life after death.

  • [22:52] Ethical questions and considerations of Father Nathan’s work. Navigating professional boundaries around psychotherapy vs. boundaries around Catholic priesthood.

  • [26:55] Quantum theology, where theologians consider the theological concepts through the prism of quantum physics.

  • [28:47] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book in on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?

What it Means to be an Empath with Dr. Judith Orloff25 Aug 202200:33:57

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AN EMPATH with DR. JUDITH ORLOFF

“If you are empathic, you must develop skills to not take on the suffering of the world.” – psychiatrist Dr. Judith Orloff

Episode Summary:

Are the woes of the world weighing especially heavily on you lately? Are you feeling burned out? Is it all just too much?

If so… you may be an empath.

Psychiatrist Judith Orloff, MD asserts that we are the keepers of an innate intuitive and empathic intelligence so perceptive that it can help us heal — and prevent illness. These qualities are too often disenfranchised from conventional health care. Dr. Orloff is a New York Times bestselling author and is on the UCLA psychiatric clinical faculty.  Her mission is proving the links between physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

She has written 8 books. Her newest, “Affirmations for Empaths” is a weekly journal helping sensitive, caring, empathic people reflect and flourish.

Listen in to hear how Dr. Orloff bridges psychiatry and spirituality.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [3:18] How Dr. Orloff’s combines traditional medical skills with her empathic gifts and intuition.  Her new workbook, and how she intends you to use it to expand into more natural ways of you being you.

  • [10:02] Dr. Orloff’s working definition of “empath”. Her first book has a 20 question self-assessment to determine if you are an empath.

  • [12:15] Empaths feel overwhelm from large crowds and from not being understood. Most empath are introverts, but empaths can also be extroverts.

  • [16:40] Affirmations are a useful tool for establishing new neural pathways, for soaking the subconscious with new ideas.  This is not spiritual bypassing.

  • [21:08]  Dr Orloff asserts, and Dr. Robbins agrees, you may never get over the fears, the anxiety, and the negative messages. Rather, you learn how to tame them and learn skills to manage them.

  • [22:26] The importance of meditation as a spiritual practice.

  • [23:37]  How Dr Orloff incorporates intuition in her psychiatry work.  She listens with her linear mind, while listening with her intuition and empathy.

Soul Writing with Joanne DiMaggio18 Aug 202200:31:12

SOUL WRITING with JOANNE DIMAGGIO

“I can see where it could be a great adjunct to therapy… being able to access those deeper parts of ourselves…and really tap into the pure soul of who we are.” – Dr. Amy Robbins on soul writing

Episode Summary:

How would you like to open a direct channel to your higher self? You maybe have always assumed you needed some psychic super powers to do that –  our guest today says anyone can.

Today we talk with author and past-life researcher Joanne DiMaggio. She is a student of Edgar Cayce, an early 20th century psychic. Joanne has been researching and chronicling past life and life-between-life stories and helping people learn: how our past lives influence our current life, what it feels like to die, what the afterlife looks like, the role of our parents and soul family, defining our soul’s mission, and selecting our new bodies.

Listen in to hear about soul writing, the subject of Joanne’s book, “Your Soul Remembers: Accessing Your Past Lives through Soul Writing”

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:57] Soul writing as a written form of meditation, allowing us to connect with the divine within, or collective consciousness. Anyone can do it!

  • [5:19] How to soul write. Start a session with a question or prompt.

  • [7:27]  How soul writing can enhance your life.

  • [12:16] Joanne describes how she sees the difference between soul writing and automatic writing. NOTE: some people use the term automatic writing very differently than how Joanne defines it.

  • [21:58] Pre-life planning sessions between lives.

  • [24:31] The concept of the soul family; your mother in this life could have been your husband in another.

  • [28:00] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book is on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? The Power of Plant Medicine with Kat Courtney04 Aug 202200:52:58

The Power of Plant Medicine with Kat Courtney

“They’ve taught me that truth is the only way out of chaos. So first I have to first show up real, vulnerable, and all in.” – Kat Courtney, on psychedelic sacred medicine plant journeys

“Drinking plant medicine a few times and assuming you know how to lead a ceremony is like watching a few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and assuming you know how to perform surgery.” – Kat Courtney

Episode Summary:

Have you been hearing more and more lately about psychedelics and healing? We sure have!

Today we talk with Tina “Kat” Courtney, known as The AfterLife Coach, a traditionally trained Ayahuasquera and Huachumera, carrying the Shipibo-Conibo, Quechua-Lamista, and Chavin plant medicine lineages.

She works as a ceremony guide, psychedelic integration coach, and is a certified Death Doula. Kat is an enthusiastic advocate for reverent and safe plant medicine experiences and is a passionate messenger of how to co-create magic without trauma in psychedelic spaces.

She is also the co-founder of Plant Medicine People, a Plant Medicine concierge company and the author of “Plant Medicine Mystery School”.

Listen in to hear how sacred plant medicines can help us all heal.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [5:53] Appropriate reverence for sacred plant medicine.

  • [8:07]  Differences between plant consciousness and human consciousness.  Ego vs. unity consciousness.

  • [11:11] The pothole of spiritual bypassing using psychedelics.

  • [13:30] Drug Induced Ego Dissolution (DIED) aka Ego Death. The experience of unity consciousness – our connection to everything, interconnectedness and safety.

  • [17:16]  Kat cautions people NOT to force an ego death during a psychedelic experience from a place of “ego = bad”. Instead, take the experience from a place of self-love.

  • [19:28] The importance of integration following any peak experiences, whether from trauma, plant medicine, or life itself. Spending time making sense of the experience.

  • [23:09] Although not physically addictive, the real possibility of psychological addiction and abuse of plant medicines.

  • [25:25] Kat’s thoughts, as a white woman from Montana, on Westernizing and capitalizing what is a traditionally indigenous ritual.

  • [32:47] Kat’s assessment of lab-created synthetic vs. natural, organic psychedelics.

  • [36:25] The “personalities” of the major plant medicines: ayahuasca, psilocybin, Huachuca (San Pedro cactus), bufo toad venom, and iboga.

  • [42:18] Micro-dosing vs. divine dosing, and all points between.

  • [45:05] What the plants are saying about what humanity is doing globally today.

  • [48:36] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book in on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? Channeling Vagrein with Jessie Herman21 Jul 202200:45:32

CHANNELING VAGREIN with JESSIE HERMAN

“It’s all exactly the same energy. It is divided into different parts so that we, as inviduations, can digest it. So there will be someone who can hear the word Christ and listen to that message and receive it in a very different way than someone who maybe believes in aliens, or in a different way than someone who believes in angels. The same energy now is using different channels, using different forms, using arts, using expression, using us as beings to continue to remind us of unity consciousness.” –Jessie Herman, channeler of Vagrein

Episode Summary:

What IS a channel? What, or better yet, WHO is channeled?

Today we talk with Jessie Herman, a former skeptic turned trance-channeler of the entity group who call themselves Vagrein. In these challenging times, since 2019, Vagrein’s messages of love and wisdom are guiding humanity toward unity consciousness.

When not channeling, Jessie is a coach, an energy healer and mother to two, living in in Italy.

Listen in to hear how Jessie put skepticism aside and allowed herself to be a conduit of divine wisdom.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:54] How channeling Vagrein unfolded for Jessie, starting from the perspective of a resistant, stubborn skeptic.

  • [5:20] Significance of the name “Vagrein”.

  • [8:04] Vagrein’s purpose for channeling: guiding humanity’s transition toward unity oneness, away from the belief in the concept of separation.

  • [11:03] How the various channels are tapping into one singular energy – whether Christ consciousness, Mother Mary, art, aliens, angels, spirit guides...

  • [14:55]  How Jessie gets out of the way when channeling, removes the influence of her mind, to remain distortion free.

  • [18:24] Culturally moving away from the concept of religious people as “middle men”, and toward having direct access to a higher consciousness.

  • [23:12] Practical integration of Vagrein’s unity concepts into everyday life.

  • [25:37] Energetic forms of service. Holding space. Doing what lights you up is your highest form of service.

  • [27:43] Inspiration, dreams, passions all come from collective consciousness. Eliminating limiting beliefs as key to realization.

  • [32:51] Current events and current human awakening.  Anyone can learn to access to the divine.

  • [41:30] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book in on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? How to Do Nothing with Jessie Kanzer14 Jul 202200:47:03

HOW TO DO NOTHING with JESSIE KANZER

“The Tao is simple… It is our human nature, I think, to complicate things where they need not be complicated.” – Jessie Kanzer

Episode Summary:

Does life seem more hectic than it was even before the pandemic?

Today we talk with Jessie Asya Kanzer, whose story begins as an child refugee from the Soviet Union seeking asylum in the US with her family. A descendant of Holocaust survivors living in a communal apartment with four households, one toilet, and a rickety old bathtub in the middle of the kitchen -- her family finally made it to Brooklyn in 1989.

As an 8-year-old refugee who only spoke Russian, Jessie (or “Asya” then) yearned to fit in. She changed her name and much about herself. She experienced depression, bulimia, anxiety and lost herself pursuing the American Dream.

Until she stopped.

In Tao Te Ching she rediscovered herself, found her innate power, and she learned to chill. Her book, “Don’t Just Sit There, DO NOTHING”, will help you do the same.

Listen in to hear about Jessie’s struggles and triumphs through the lens of the 6th century philosophy Tao Te Ching, which she calls “the world’s oldest self-help book”.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [3:18] How Jessie’s story -- from losing identity as a child refugee from Russia with Eastern Europe roots, through renaming and reinventing herself in America, struggling bulimia, and being physically broken after suffering a car crash -- steered her toward a deep dive into Tao Te Ching, and ultimately going within spiritually.

  • [15:42] Tenets of 6th century philosophy Tao Te Ching: simplicity, patience, compassion.  We consume more information in a single day than people did in their entire lifetime in just a few hundred years ago.

  • [27:46]  Creativity comes with unscheduled time.

  • [31:01] What the paradox of “do nothing” means to Jessie.

  • [41:30] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book in on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?

Little Voices from Beyond with Kiersten Parsons-Hathcock30 Jun 202200:45:06

LITTLE VOICES FROM BEYOND with KIERSTEN PARSONS-HATHCOCK     “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that I have to trust that quiet inner knowing.”

– Kiersten Parsons-Hathcock, medium who channels messages from children from beyond

Episode Summary:

What would you do if you started hearing the voices of murdered children?

Today we talk with Kiersten Parsons-Hathcock, author of Little Voices: How Kids in Spirit Helped a Reluctant Medium Escape and Heal from Abuse.

Kiersten is an award-winning carpenter/furniture designer, and founder of Mod Mom Furniture, a kids’ furniture company featured on ABC's Shark Tank.

She’s also a TEDx speaker and an intuitive medium who works for the National Institute for Law and Justice helping detectives and families uncover truth in missing persons and homicide cases.

Listen in to hear Kiersten’s fascinating journey into channeling the little voices who needed to be heard.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [4:19] How Kiersten’s psychic gifts showed up – as little voices coming to her. She didn’t ask for it; it just happened.

  • [8:05] What Kiersten experiences when she hears from these children. How she manages what she finds out.

  • [10:11] How the Universe connected Kiersten with law enforcement. She now works with  law enforcement and with parents of lost kids.

  • [12:47]  After the channeled messages from children were validated by law enforcement in the physical world, and Kiersten’s confidence grew, she was able to recall own sexual abuse at age five.

  • [13:46] Kiersten’s accuracy when channeling information about murdered children has increased with experience. She describes her gift as a blessing and a curse.

  • [17:46] How Kiersten’s repressed memories emerged. She eventually confronted her abuser. Later she found herself in extramarital relationship with another abuser. Standing up to an abuser as an adult healed her childhood abuse.

  • [29:40] How Kiersten was groomed by her adult abuser. There were no intuitive warnings at first. But later, she started hearing how she was meant to have that experience, leave it, and write about it.

  • [34:17] How common it is for adults who experienced childhood abuse to repeat experiences as an adult, with an unconscious intention to break the cycle. The psychological and the spiritual come together in a soup of dissociation, mental health and spiritual connection.

  • [37:32] How Kiersten’s little voices guided her, allowing her to safely escape from a potentially dangerous relationship with a predator.

Extraordinary Awakenings with Steve Taylor, PhD23 Jun 202200:35:31

EXTRAORDINARY AWAKENINGS with STEVE TAYLOR, PhD

“It’s ego dissolution. But it’s not just ego dissolution; it’s also the birth of a new self. It’s not just a break down, which is ego dissolution, it’s a shift up.  It’s the uncovering of a deeper spiritual self which was always there but it seems to have been dormant, waiting for the opportunity to emerge.”

– Steve Taylor, PhD, describing extraordinary awakenings

Episode Summary:

Why do some people who experience the absolute worst that life has to offer respond not by breaking down but by shifting up, into a higher-functioning, awakened state, like a phoenix rising from the ashes?

Today we talk with Steve Taylor, PhD, the author of Extraordinary Awakenings: When Trauma Leads to Transformation, and other bestselling books. He is senior lecturer in psychology at Leeds Beckett University in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England; and the chair of the Transpersonal Psychology Section of the British Psychological Society. Steve’s articles and essays have been published in over 100 academic journals, magazines, and newspapers and he blogs for Scientific American and Psychology Today.

Listen in to hear how you can encourage your own spontaneous, extraordinary awakening.

Topics We Discuss:

  • [2:56] His research in transformation through turmoil (instantaneous), in contrast with post-traumatic growth (normally slow and gradual).

  • [5:41] Breakdown of the ego giving way to a larger, more spiritual self.

  • [8:23] What is means to awaken. The surface personality and its attachments fade, while soul qualities emerge. Interconnectivity increases.

  • [11:47] Triggers for profound transformation:  prison, military conflict, bereavement, near death experience, cancer diagnosis.

  • [17:03]  We can encourage transformational experiences, hopefully without the life-or-death level turmoil -- acknowledging, embracing and accepting challenging situations.

  • [20:05] When the “normal self” dies away during these extraordinary awakenings, disease and addiction can instantaneously resolve during.

  • [22:33] Why Steve Taylor is optimistic about the future of humanity. Evolution is a continuum of increasing consciousness.

  • [27:46] Amy’s speed round questions: What is spirituality? What is something people don’t know about you? What is one thing you’re looking forward to right now? What’s one thing you’re deeply grateful for? What book in on your nightstand? What is your favorite spiritual or healing practice? What is the most spiritually transformative experience of your life?
