What if your dog saved your life and inspired a movement that’s now saving thousands more?
That’s exactly what happened to Melissa David, a former law enforcement officer whose cancer diagnosis (& deep bond with her pup Charlie) led her to launch Parachutes for Pets, a powerful nonprofit that helps people in crisis keep their beloved animals safe.
In this episode, Melissa shares her moving story & the ripple effect her work is having across Alberta and beyond.
Melissa founded Parachutes for Pets in 2019, driven by the belief that pets are family and lifelines during our hardest days. After her dog Charlie helped her through cancer as a young adult, Melissa set out to ensure no one would have to choose between getting help and keeping their pet safe.
A former RCMP employee, she now leads two Pet Advocacy Centres in Calgary and Edmonton and Canada’s most comprehensive pet safekeeping program, including a 24/7 Angel Team supporting first responders when pets need care. Her mission: to keep pets and people together, no matter the crisis. Her goal is to have Parachutes for Pets in each major Canadian City.
