Ep. 81 | Thriving Together: Revolutionizing Our Approach to Senior Dog Care with guest Dr. Lisa Lippman07 Jan 202500:48:45

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

In this episode, Dr. Amelia discusses an exciting new approach to senior dog care with guest Dr. Lisa Lippman. They introduce the senior dog veterinary society and a new senior dog veterinary certification co-founded by Dr. Lippman, Dr. Monica Tarantino, and Dr. Lauren Adelman. This episode dives into the power of adopting this certification, emphasizing its positive impact on the well-being of the entire veterinary ecosystem: pets, pet parents, and veterinary professionals. They dive into how this new proactive approach can help to decrease stress, overwhelm, and frustration that can come with senior pet care in a holistic way including better communication, decreased stress around finances, managing the emotions and heaviness associated with aging and end of life care, time management, relationships, prioritizing co-morbidities, and more.  Amelia and Lisa also share their personal experiences caring for and losing a senior pet and why adopting a nervous system perspective and fear-free approach is a game changer when caring for aging pets.

Dr. Lisa Lippman, DVM, is one of the most followed and socially influential veterinarians in the United States. She is nationally respected by media outlets such as Good Morning America, Inside Edition, and Live with Kelly and Ryan as a go-to source for expertise in pet health and safety.

When not treating some of the most influential pets in the world at Bond Vet she is the co founder of the Senior Dog Veterinary Society as well as the Pet Loss Community and sits on the board of Animal Lighthouse Rescue, whose mission is to help the homeless dogs of Puerto Rico. On top of that, she still finds time to devote to her own dog, the incomparable Herbie.

Ep. 80 | The #1 Most Important Question To Ask Yourself Going Into 202529 Dec 202400:24:54

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Dwight Eisenhower got it right when he said, "what is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important".

I really connected with that on a deep level a few years ago when I was burned out and wishing decades of my life away.  I was dreaming of retirement because that's when I imagined I'd actually get to start living and enjoying my life. And I realized that I didn't want to keep doing that. I wanted to actually start enjoying the life that I had now - the one that I knew I was going to get to live. I realize how tragic if I spent my entire life self-sacrificing for a better future and I never actually got to enjoy that future! And so that's why when ever I have a guest on the podcast, one of the questions I ask is, "when do you feel most alive?" Because that question helps to reconnect us with those important things that may not feel urgent in life, but they make all the difference and get to the heart of what really matters.

This podcast episode is compilation of the responses that my guests have had over the year as well as my own answer to inspire you. Getting clear on what helps you to feel most alive will help you to make changes in your life and navigate your day in a way that lights you up instead of burning you out.

After listening, send me a message or voice memo sharing what your answer is to the question. I'd love to continue to have more roundups like this in the future!

For support making changes so you're not living your life letting those urgent, but not important things crowd out all the things that are truly important at the end of the day and at the end of your life that's what my coaching programs are designed to do to help you to reconnect with the version of you that feels most alive and fulfilled in life. Ep. 71 | Cool Things You Didn't Know About Gut Health, Thoughts On The "Hack Your Health: Secrets Of The Gut" Netflix Documentary, and How To Make Sustainable Changes07 May 202400:55:10

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

I have been meaning to make this episode about gut health for 2 years and it finally happened. 🙌🏻 I recently watched the new Netflix Documentary "Hack Your Health: Secrets of the Gut" and that was the motivation I needed to re-share an Instagram live that I did a couple of years ago that is packed with info that is going to surprise you when it comes to gut health.

The reality is that most people are pretty hush hush when it comes to bathroom habits, which means most people don't even know if their normal is actually healthy. If we don't talk about signs of poor gut health, then how can we fix it? The best part about gut health is that everything you do either positively or negatively impacts your gut. When you know how to support your gut, you become empowered to create huge positive change in your life when it comes to your metabolism, cravings, hormones, immune system, energy, anxiety, depression, blood sugar regulation, digestion, and even your genes!

What are signs of an unhealthy gut? What causes an unhealthy gut? What is optimal for bathroom habits? If you have an imbalanced gut (dysbiosis), how can you bring it back into balance?  How do you make changes that actually stick instead of watching a documentary or listening to a podcast, being excited for a week, and then going back to normal? We cover all of that in this podcast episode!

If you've watched the Netflix documentary, this episode has lots of new information that wasn't covered in that show. One of the things that I loved the most about that documentary is that they talked about the importance of all 3 Life Boost B's: Belly, Brain, and Blood sugar instead of only talking about the gut. Everything is connected and they totally got that right! They also highlighted why our current norm is leading to rising rates of obesity, mental health issues, and chronic diseases which is so aligned with my message that if you want to feel good, you really have to break the norm.

If you enjoy this episode and find it helpful, please share it with someone you love or leave a review. If you write a review, let me know and I'll send you a guided mental rehearsal as a thank you (the same technique elite athletes, CEOs, top surgeons, etc use to improve performance).

Ep. 69 | Game Changer Sneak Peak: The 3 Wellness Levels20 Mar 202400:20:41

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

We’re doing something new today! Last month, I did a major update to my Game Changer and added an audio option to each lesson so that you have the option to listen to your daily 10-15 minutes lesson during your commute, while going for a walk, or while washing dishes or folding laundry instead of having to sit down and read. My goal is to make this journey as easy as possible for you.

Since I now have the audio, this is a glimpse of one of the first lessons in the Game Changer that teaches a key concept if you’re wanting to make healthy changes but keep promising yourself you’ll start tomorrow or if you’re making healthy changes but they feel hard and unsustainable. There are really 3 Wellness Levels, but our world acts like here are only 2 and both of those are pretty unappealing and uncomfortable. After listening to this episode, let me know which one sounds most familiar to you!

P.s. Check out "Life Boost with Amelia" podcast Episode 57: Unleashing Your Inner Unstoppable Bad-Ass. Around minute 28 there's an exercise with a guided mental rehearsal/hypnosis to help you to start unchaining the things that have been holding you back.

Ep. 68 | Recovering From Burnout with Guest Dr. Stacey Cordivano - The Whole Veterinarian29 Feb 202400:59:04

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

In this episode, Dr. Stacey Cordivano shares her story of experiencing and recovering from burnout. As a solo ambulatory equine veterinarian and mom with two kids under the age of 3, she knew something had to change when she found herself driving to the hospital to have her appendix out after cooking Thanksgiving dinner.  Just a couple of months earlier, she had been diagnosed with Lyme disease and experienced the emotional trauma of needing to wean her second child from nursing early. Despite making some changes, a year later she found herself asking, "What am I doing? Am I really making a difference?". That's when she started to discover personal development podcasts which introduced her to a whole new world that helped her start her journey of recovering from burnout.

Now, in addition to being a practice owner, equine vet, and mother, she is the host of the podcast, The Whole Veterinarian, where she has conversations with out-of-the-box thinkers who share new ideas on ways veterinarians can add more joy to their life to feel whole again. In this episode, she shares tips that have helped her to recover from burnout and she shares her perspective as a practice owner for what helps to create a "unicorn veterinary hospital" - a hospital where employees feel lucky to work at their practice because they're supported, respected, and valued so that they can provide veterinary care in a way that feels good and still have energy left at the end of the day to be a human outside of vet med.

Stacey is such a cool person, and I know you're going to get so much out of this conversation!

Ep. 66 | Why Vet Med Has A High Burnout and Suicide Rate + What We Can Do About It16 Oct 202301:27:37

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Any time I tell someone outside of the veterinary profession about the high burnout and suicide rate, they're surprised. And that's totally understandable - from the outside being a vet seems like a really fun gig. We get to see puppies and kittens, after all! But there is a darker side of vet med that's important to talk about in order for it to change. Once someone learns about the high burnout and suicide rate, their next question is WHY. This podcast episode dives into the root issues of what leads to burnout in the veterinary profession AND discusses solutions to each of those including how veterinary professionals and pet owners can help to be a part of positive change.

This episode is for animal lovers, pet owners, and veterinary professionals. Please share it to help raise awareness about what each of us can do to be a part of creating positive change.

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

In the span of a few weeks, Hannah called off her engagement, moved out of the home she loved, packed up her Subaru, and went on a solo 6 week cross country road trip to hike in National Parks and to start living the life she wanted instead of continuing down the "easier" path everyone expected.

The week leading up to the trip she felt "so anxious...terrified". 6 weeks later as she finished her trip, she thought "This is 100% what I should have done. I regret nothing."
Listen to the episode for all the details of how she found the courage to leave her safe and settled life to follow her heart and to start living the life she wanted, crazy stories from her trip, and her advice for anyone feeling stuck like she was.

If I had to boil down everything that I teach in order to create positive change and to live a fulfilling life to three words they would be compassion, curiosity, and connection. In this episode, I talk about why each of these is crucial in order to enjoy the journey instead of feeling stuck or living in the "things will be better once..." mindset.

Ep. 63 | 🤯 My Human Design Summarized Why I Reached Burnout + Why I Feel Like I'm Living My Purpose Now20 Jul 202301:23:35

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Earlier this year, I had a human design reading with HD expert Yvonne Chung and I was blown away by how accurate it was! I felt so seen and it really summarized what led me to burnout and why I now feel like I'm living my purpose and living a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.

In this episode, I share my thoughts about Human Design and how it can be useful in deconditioning from patterns that are draining you so you can connect with the truest version of you in order to live a life that gives you energy. This is basically I'm sitting down chatting with a friend as I share some of the information from my human design reading. As I share parts of my personality you may not know about, I also cover a huge range of little tips and stories about a huge range of topics like imposter syndrome, delegating, veterinary medical acupuncture, postural restoration techniques, creating a "choose" to-do list, recovering from burn out, trauma responses, overcoming people pleasing and perfectionism, the different types of fear and ditching your helicopter parent nervous system, gut health, creating a new norm in the veterinary profession and our approach to health, why Big Food and Pharma companies set us up to fail, and so much more! It's basically a glimpse into my brain. 😊

I highly recommend Yvonne Chung's free master classes to learn about your Human Design type or getting a full reading! Find info on her master classes and deep dive readings here.

Ep. 61 | Unconscious Chains + Free Resources23 Jun 202300:38:11

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

The moment my life changed was the moment I started to see the unconscious chains that had been holding me back from everything that I wanted but I didn't think was possible. It felt like suddenly the clouds were parting and everything seemed sunnier and more colorful. Since that moment, I've been on a mission to help others experience that same feeling like a huge weight is being lifted off your shoulders and you can breathe again. In this episode, I give examples of how unconscious chains (like limiting beliefs and automatic habits/patterns) hold us back and make our life harder and more uncomfortable than it has to be.

Ep. 59 | What We're Willing To Sacrifice To Temporarily Numb Judgmental Voices And How To Break Free From Them01 May 202300:29:48

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

In this episode, I talk about how our society has normalized turning to things that don't make us feel good in order for a brief reprieve from the judgmental inner thoughts and voices that are holding us back and weighing us down. It has been so normalized that most people don't even realize the price they're willing to pay for those moments when they feel free. When you start to become aware of those thoughts and inner critics and call them out, you start to feel free in life and those things like alcohol and unhealthy food become so much less appealing.

The first part of the episode includes a chat about a recent trip to Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia, geocaching, exploring, epic wedding ideas, and the struggles of natural deodorant. 😉

Ep. 58 | How To Create The Change You Want + What I Was Shy To Share (The Podcast Episode That Almost Wasn't)11 Apr 202300:46:27

This podcast episode almost didn’t happen for so many reasons, but it’s out in the world now! For better or worse… 😉

I start out sharing something that I was kind of shy about sharing but I decided to own because it’s making me super happy. 1

Ep 55 | My PSA: Why Semaglutides Aren't A Weight Loss Miracle Drug + Why Our Healthcare System and Guidelines Are Failing Us08 Feb 202301:20:15

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

This episode was inspired by the new weight loss injection, Wegovy, and the recent narrative that obesity is mainly caused by genetics and other factors out of your control. If you're overweight or obese, it's highly likely your doctor will recommend Wegovy, and there are some very important things you should be aware of before deciding if that's right for you.

This episode is for everyone regardless of your health status or weight. This is a PSA to shed light on why the norm in our country is to be sick, overweight, and/or unhappy. You will be shocked to learn how many of the health and nutrition messages and guidelines you likely trust are actually coming from individuals and companies who benefit from you being sick and overweight. We are stuck in a vicious cycle in our country when it comes to health, and in order to free yourself from the cycle and to approach healthy in a way that helps you to feel energized and alive you need to break the norm. I share simple things you can start doing TODAY to start feeling in control of your health, happiness, and success.

Ep. 43 | Two Myths About Rest and Resisting "Busy"18 Jul 202200:30:34

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Is your heart afraid to relax? A recent horoscope telling me that inspired this episode. There are some things we need to clear up about rest.

Myth #1: Rest is comfortable.
When we think about having a break, we think that rest is going to feel really good - like it's just a big sigh for our body and mind.  That doesn't end up being reality when you have a high achieving perfectionist brain, because our natural state is to be busy. Previous experiences have taught you that busy is good.

Myth #2: Rest is a reward.

Rest is not a reward. It is a necessity. We need rest. And we need to stop treating it like this amazing thing that we need to work hard for in order to earn. Rest should not be something that you get when you finish your to-do list, rest needs to be on your to-do list and it needs to be a priority.

In this episode, I talk more about both of those myths and then I share what you can start doing today to resist the "busy" mindset and start getting more comfortable with enjoying and prioritizing rest.

Ep. 42 | Managing Your Perfectionist Brain For Sustainable Health, Happiness, and Success11 Jul 202200:33:30

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Is your perfectionist brain calling all the shots? For a LONG time, my high-achieving, to-do list loving brain controlled the way I lived my life. I was successful...and exhausted, burnt out, and unhappy. I was so focused on my busy schedule and goals that I completely ignored what my body needed. One of the biggest things that changed my life was learning to manage my perfectionist brain. It doesn't matter how perfect your nutrition and fitness plan is - if you're not managing your mind and listening to and honoring what your body needs, you will never achieve sustainable health, happiness, and success that feels good.

In this episode, I share examples of how my perfectionist brain used to get in the way of supporting my body. I still have perfectionist thoughts (often!), but now I’ve learned to manage them instead of letting them run the show. I share tips on starting to manage your mind so you can prioritize your health even when you’re busy in this episode!

Ep. 38 | Do Selfies Make You Uncomfortable?23 Jun 202200:10:19

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

In today’s podcast episode we’re talking about selfies! Do you love them? Avoid them? Judge others for taking them? I share my own journey from absolutely never taking selfies to learning to embrace them. Honestly, I used to judge others for taking selfies. One super important life lesson I’ve learned: any time you’re judging someone else, it’s time to stop wasting negative energy on them and to turn inward to see what’s really going on.

Ep 37 | Be The Conductor And Choose The Soundtrack For Your Life12 Jun 202200:19:49

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Do you feel in control of your body or are there lots of little things that are "off" or not cooperating?  When it comes to health and feeling your best, you need to be the conductor of your body. Think of your body like an orchestra - each body system is a different instrument.  When each instrument is playing their part in tune, they all come together to play a beautiful song in harmony. But what if one instrument is out of tune or playing the wrong song? It can seem like chaos! Even one instrument that's completely off can throw off everyone! When you take control as the conductor, you get to choose the song. But in order to achieve effortless harmony, you have to give each separate instrument (body system) attention to make sure everything is in tune and capable of playing the song. Right now are you playing the sound track you want to live your life to?

A good song fills you with energy, right?! In this episode, I share how to start increasing self-awareness of your body and mind so that you can start playing the soundtrack to your life that brings you energy and joy.

At the start of the episode, I also share a little bit about my approach to meditating and how I've recently been managing my brain that likes to keep me busy 24/7.

Ep. 36| What You Need To Know About Oils and Fatty Acids06 Jun 202200:22:35

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Do you pay attention to your fat?

Not your body fat or calories/macros. The KIND of fat you’re eating. Tthat little detail makes all the difference.

Here’s the deal:

If you eat the foods that are normal in our society, your diet is probably causing inflammation in your body (without you realizing).

You know how a tiny paper cut makes your finger red, swollen, and really painful? That’s inflammation. It’s good! It’s temporary and appropriate as your body heals.

But what if there’s inflammation throughout your body and it’s not short term? That’s when weird signs like GI issues, headaches, achy joints, sinus congestion, allergies, brain fog, exhaustion, low mood, and weight gain start showing up.

If inflammation makes a tiny paper cut on your finger super painful, imagine what it does when it’s constantly throughout your body.

Welcome to the world of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids! They’re kind of a big deal. Both are essential - your body doesn’t make them so you NEED to consume both in your diet. But the RATIO really matters. And the norm is for that ratio to not be working in your favor.

If you’re like most people, you probably go out to eat pretty often and eat processed food. It’s convenient, right? You are consuming PLENTY of omega 6’s.

What about the number of fatty fish (salmon, sardines, anchovies, mackerel, herring), walnuts, flax seed, chia seeds, and algae you consume? Omega 3’s aren’t so plentiful in most diets.

When you consume way more omega-6’s compared to omega-3’s that causes inflammation in your body. The norm in our society is a ratio of 10 to 25:1. Ideally we want that to be closer to 1:1. Yikes.

When the ratio is closer to 3:1 that becomes ANTI-inflammatory! That’s when you start to experience really positive changes in your body. Note how just counting calories or macros totally misses this majorly important piece of the puzzle.

Once you start paying attention to the kind of fats you’re consuming, you can start making small tweaks that make all the difference! What oils are best to cook with? Is canola oil good or bad? How can you improve your ratio if you hate fish? Listen to my this episode and I’ll fill you in on everything you need to know to start making small changes that will have a hugely positive impact on the way you feel physically and mentally. ❤️

Ep 35 | Let's Make A Pact, People-Pleasers!02 Jun 202200:22:05

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

Do you tend to say, "Are you sure?" or to feel guilty after asking someone for a favor or to do something? Yeah, me too. Why? Because as a (recovering) people-pleaser, I have a tendency to agree to things even when I really don't want to.

Throughout our lives, we've been rewarded for the times when we're agreeable and willing to sacrifice our own time for the benefit of others. A hard lesson I had to learn: you can't please everyone, otherwise you are going to disappoint yourself.

In order to ditch the guilt and start trusting when others say "yes", we need to start being honest with our own responses when we truly want to say no. You are not responsible for making sure someone else answers honestly, but you are responsible for being honest yourself.

Listen to this episode for a conversation about why it can feel so hard resisting that automatic reflex, how to start practicing, and how we can join together to support each other to protect your energy. Understanding how to fuel your body in a way that energizes you and helps to feel in control is super important, but you will never feel fully energized if you are continuing to say yes when your body, heart, and mind are asking you to say no. ❤️

Ep 34 | Why I'm Angry And How To Start A Positive Ripple Effect To Fix Our Broken Systems and Society25 May 202200:38:00

Send me a text sharing your thoughts or questions

I'm feeling particularly heartbroken and angry about our current "norm". The current systems in place set our society up to fail when it comes to physical and mental health. It makes me furious.

In light of yesterday’s events, I’m releasing this podcast episode early on the systems that make me angry. It’s a snapshot of the hypocrisy and vicious cycle of the systems in place that are making our country sick, overweight, and unhappy.

Ex: Our government is subsidizing the crops that make the food that severely impact physical and mental health. Yet healthcare is unaffordable for many.

Dietary and lifestyle factors are major contributors to preventable chronic diseases (and mental health), yet doctors aren’t educated on these in medical school nor do they have the time to ask about them or give recommendations beyond “eat healthier” or “try to lose some weight”.

Our healthcare system is so siloed and rushed that a pill is prescribed for everything instead of asking how all of the symptoms could be connected and WHY.

Everyone is stressed and our society has normalized numbing that with drinks at the end of the day or comfort food instead of actually talking about it.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Change can start today, but it has to start one person at a time. We can’t keep hoping the people who are supposed to be taking care of us will do the right thing.

We NEED to start being kind to ourselves so that we can have the energy and patience to be kind to each other. Our society and the misguided and confusing information around health makes that feel really hard even when you’re trying. Please listen to my podcast episode to understand why things feel hard and where to start.

Please share my podcast and this message with others. Please reach out to me. We can start a positive ripple effect starting today. We can’t waste any more time. ❤️
