The Great Games: Day 2, Event 2:  The Eye of the Storm.  Competitors are pitted against eachother in combat amidst the whirling tornado, all to the glory of the titan Sydon.  The combat is safe, though, with arrows awarding points rather than doing serious damage and the storm is mostly an obstruction.  But the Great Games bring more than the competitions, they bring familiar faces and familiar voices.

The Chosen of Versi have certainly been in many peculiar predicaments, but this might be their strangest yet.  On board a ramshackle double decker raft, floating down the River Lethe with unlikely allies and an unclear destination, searching for a mythical ship lost to the ages at the behest of a king who has offered them little aid in the past.  Rapids and river creatures plague their journey, but at the end waits the Dead Falls and, hopefully, the completion of their fourth great labor.

Five hundred years ago, in the throes of the First War, the legendary Dragonlord Estor Arkelander commissioned construction of the greatest ship Thylea has ever known: the Ultros.  The ship carried legions of soldiers past the edge of the world to confront the Lady of Dreams herself in the underworld, but the ship was lost, never to be seen again.  Until now.  With its ghostly light and skeleton crew, one can only imagine the treachery that awaits our heroes as they seek to return the boat to the port of Mytros.

Another cool morning at the Sour Vintage.  Reminds one of the beginning of this great journey, when our heroes were hunting boars and still unsure of eachother.  Their tasks now are of a much greater scale, though, as they prepare to raft down the River Lethe to find the legendary ship the Ultros.  Given their past exploits, one can hardly guess what kinds of strange allies and new struggles face them as they venture towards the ominously named Dead Falls.

We’re commandeering this airboat!  I had to say it, just once.  With Nehmet in charge, Eto looking out for obstacles and Ylva’s sister Ragna manning the rudder, our heroes set off on their hastily modified raft down the River Lethe to reach the Dead Falls.  An exciting and dangerous journey awaits, but that has become the norm for these heroes and their motley crew of allies, they should be able to handle whatever the titans throw their way.  But what was it Gorgynos said about a…  River octopus..?

And lo, the heroes did journey, with their minotaur refugees, north, once more, to the city of Estoria.  Their journey was sure to be a complicated one, but thanks to nearly 90 minutes of real time discussion on which route to take, they arrived safely with few surprise encounters.  And lucky for you, this recording skips over the pros and cons of the western versus eastern routes.  With a little bit of downtime marching along the road, the heroes are able to raise a few questions and concerns that have been brushed by the wayside during their non-stop adventuring, though the answers they receive aren’t the most comforting...

Ah, the Sour Vintage: where these five heroes and their unsuspecting bard originally began their great journey with the slaying of a mighty boar.  They are stopping only briefly, however, as they are on the way to their fourth of three great labors.  The mighty ship Ultros of the great Estor Arkelander, thought to be lost, is supposedly one short river rafting trip away.  Then the heroes will be able to take their adventuring to the isles south of Thylea…  And yes, you read that right: river rafting.

Maximus, ex-gladiator supreme, is now the most tyrannical slave-owner in Mytros, though much of Mytrosian society has been influenced to think little of his atrocities.  The Lady of Coins, however, wishes to put an end to his terror and has enlisted none other than The Chosen of Versi to help with that task.  It feels a far cry from liberating the continent from the murderous whims of the titans, but good deeds come in all sizes.  And all shades of gray morality, apparently...

The city of Mytros is finally free of the terrible storm, meaning our heroes can finally see the city!  They have a couple more pressing matters to attend to first.  King Acastus has summoned them once again, no doubt to impart his pride and respect for their victory at Volkan’s Peak.  They’ve also promised to secure a worthy sacrifice for Vallus, after her great expenditure of power during the miracle.  First, though, they could use some downtime...

The Great Games: Day 1, Event 2:  The Tower of Pythor.  An all out wrestle match for the glory of the god of battle himself.  It wouldn’t be quite the spectacle, though, without some added complications.  The winner must be the last one standing atop the tower, which is covered in grease and thirty feet high.  If that wasn’t challenge enough, the tower is surrounded by water, full of deadly water sharks.  And if you don’t reach the top of the tower quickly enough, you’re chum.

Reaching the Necropolis of the Dragonlords may have been precarious in itself, but the heroes’ third labor is far from over.  First, they must venture into the maze, guarded by a dreadful minotaur named Graxis.  Then they must recover from Xander’s tomb whatever arms and armor they can without being cursed.  Finally, they have to find a way off of this dreaded mountain without becoming yeti food.  The challenges our heroes are about to face pose some very unexpected twists and turns, not unlike the labyrinth they are about to delve into...

Now within the walls of the Necropolis of Telamok, our heroes learn the history of Thylea and of the great Dragonlords of old… With one of these legendary heroes right beside them, they take a tour of the various tombs and crypts which hold the treasures and remains of the saviors of the mortal races, the vanquishers of the gygans and the namesakes of this campaign…

They may be called the Leaping Spires of Narsus, but the leaping and the spires are the least of concern to any who play.  All that matters is these three things: get the pennants, avoid the surprises, and stop anyone else from winning, by any means necessary.  While our heroes may be joined by an Oath of Fellowship, that won’t stop them from competing against eachother.  Whoever gets those flags to the middle, wins.

Iona’s grove is rescued from the Evil Fucking Tree and our heroes are ready to return to the task at hand: their labors.  After a quick goodbye to Iona and to Nausicaa’s parents, the gang returns Versi to her temple and ventures back to the site of their first labor: The Mithral Forge outside of Estoria.  Volkan delivers the heroes’ commissioned items and it’s onward and upward to the final labor bestowed upon the heroes by the oracle Versi herself: to reclaim the ancient weapons of the long-dead dragonlords, entombed at the Necropolis at Telamok.

With Demetria defeated and none of the heroes dead anymore, the heroes take a well deserved rest, under the careful watch of Laureus and his friends.  Their sleep, however, brings terrible visions and portents from Lutheria, surely trying to frighten them off of their glorious path.  When the heroes arrive at a town to deliver some of the rescued captives, though, they learn that Lutheria delivers on her promises.

Deeper in the mossy temple, the heroes find themselves in the den of a mysterious and terrible foe: Demetria.  While her connections to the party are many, none of the heroes have met her before, and certainly they will all be glad to never cross paths with her again after their encounter.  With awesome powers and numerous allies, Demetria might be the heroes most difficult battle yet.

Before continuing on their perilous journey to save the world, the heroes take a well-deserved break to attend a feast that King Pythor throws in their honor.  The feast itself is quite a merry time, full of music, alcohol and a few choice declarations by the God of Battle himself.  In the waning night after the party dissipates, some of the heroes contemplate their pasts and their futures, though the morning after brings news that spurs them to quick action on their next quest.

After scouting out the solution to their sacrifice dilemma, the heroes feel confident that their night on the Rock of Estor won’t be their last night on Thylea.  While chained to the rock, they find that the followers of the titans’ cults come in all kinds, from those blind with rage, to those with a relieving sense of humor.  They also learn that their actions have started to earn them some impressive clout as the people of Estoria rally en masse to watch the sacrifice and support the prophesied heroes both with homemade fan-club attire and promises of soon-to-be-popular merchandising.

On this most auspicious day, the birthday of our own game master, the heroes face certain death.  Sydon, the Lord of Storms has demanded the sacrifice of Princess Anora, the only surviving heir to the throne of Estoria.  However, his envoy, Gaius, has decreed that the princess’s life may be spared, on the condition that all five of our heroes take her place on the Rock of Estor.  If the heroes perish, Thylea itself is sure to follow, but if they aid in the death of Pythor’s only living daughter, the city of Estoria may succumb to the unimpressive leadership of the God of Battle and the heroes will certainly lose some clout in the frontier city they currently call home.

With their first of three great labors completed, the Chosen of Versi make their trek back to Estoria for a little bit of downtime.  Clothes lost in the mine are replaced, new, powerful weapons are commissioned and a couple of new characters about the city are met.  With the wine festival dying down and the Order of Sydon still demanding the princess’s sacrifice, the heroes’ respite will be short lived, but such is the life of a prophesied hero.  There are beasts to slay, foes to thwart and… plays to watch?

With their first of three great labors completed, the Chosen of Versi make their trek back to Estoria for a little bit of downtime.  Clothes lost in the mine are replaced, new, powerful weapons are commissioned and a couple of new characters about the city are met.  With the wine festival dying down and the Order of Sydon still demanding the princess’s sacrifice, the heroes’ respite will be short lived, but such is the life of a prophesied hero.  There are beasts to slay, foes to thwart and… plays to watch?

It seems like the Chosen of Versi are coming to a tough decision.  If princess Anora is sacrificed, the city of Estoria will surely crumble in Pythor’s hands; if Sydon is not appeased, the city will be racked with drought and razed to the ground; and if the five heroes are sacrificed, well, the future of Thylea will be grim indeed.  But then again, perhaps there is hope yet, if the heroes are clever in their next few hours.  Customs are not always what they seem and the story surely can’t end yet… can it?

The Trog King’s come to collect, but can our heroes pay their due?  It seems that this one final hurdle is all that remains in order to free the Mithral Mines and complete the first Great Labor, but once liberated, what other mysteries will the heroes find in this ancient cavern?  A secret lair?  New supplies?  Another descendevator to take them even deeper into the earth?  Probably not that last one, but if the Chosen of Versi aren’t above getting their hands a little dirty, some powerful surprises might be in store for them…  In the good way, not in the ambush way.

The 500 year Oath of Peace is coming to an end and the Titans’ jealous rage has only ripened over time.  Five heroes have been summoned by the Oracle, who prophesied that they are the only hope of refuge from the death of the gods, the destruction of the sacred tree, and the total annihilation of all mortal races.  Join our heroes (and their players):

Ariel (Venus), a naively entitled nymph with a pension for persuasion

Eto (Billy), a hard-ass Aresian soldier who believes that discipline and pride are cardinal virtues

Nausicaa (Violet), a strangely social medusa who can kill a yak from 200 yards away with her trusty bow

Nehmet (Sojak), a man out of time, slowly clearing a 500 year fog from his mind as he composes the greatest epic poem Thylea will ever know

Ylva (Jacob), a stranger in a strange land whose bone-and-hide armor is almost as threatening as her fiery magics

as they are guided through the world of Thylea by their Dungeon Master (Sam).  Many dangers exist in Thylea, especially for one so bold as to take up adventuring, but if The Chosen of Versi fail in their quest, the future of Thylea is certain to be a grim one.

Having met the Oracle, The Chosen of Versi psychically learn of their individual prophecies and decide to venture towards the city of Estoria.  Along the way, their bardic companion finds them lodging with a simple family who eagerly host the prophesied heroes.  Upon reaching Estoria, the heroes’ journey takes a strange turn as King Pythor asks an unexpected favor and they must decide between completing their labors, or aiding the king.
