Born on March 17, 1959, in the Isle of Wight, England, Lindup formed Level 42 in the early 80s, contributing to their unique blend of jazz, funk, and pop. The band achieved significant success during the 80s and early 90s, with hits like "Lessons in Love" and "Something About You." In addition to his work with Level 42, Lindup has pursued solo projects and collaborated with various artists across genres throughout his career while continuing to tour with Level 42

On this week’s episode we are joined by Albert Bouchard. Albert Bouchard is an American musician and songwriter, best known as the drummer and co-founder of the rock band Blue Öyster Cult. Born in New York in 1948, Bouchard played a significant role in shaping the band's sound, contributing to their unique blend of hard rock, heavy metal, and progressive elements. He was instrumental in writing many of the band's classic songs, including "Don't Fear the Reaper." After leaving Blue Öyster Cult in the early 1980s, Bouchard pursued a solo career, releasing several albums and collaborating with various artists. Alex Cox is a British film director, screenwriter, and actor. Cox is best known for his work in the punk and independent film movements. One of his most notable films is "Repo Man" (1984), a cult classic that blends science fiction and black comedy. Cox's other notable works include "Sid and Nancy" (1986), a biographical film about the relationship between punk rock musician Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen, "Walker" (1987), a historical drama about American mercenary William Walker and the cult western "Straight To Hell" which featured The Pogues, Nick Cave and Joe Strummer. Cox was also the presenter of the weekly BBC show "Moviedrome" which was a must watch for any cinephile. On this week's episode we are joined by English musician, producer and songwriter Nick Van Eede. The decade of the eighties threw up a host of timeless tunes and Nick and his band Cutting Crew certainly contributed to this with the classic "I Just Died In Your Arms" which was a global chart topper. We discuss the impact of this song on the band many dubbed an overnight success. However Nick had years of touring with bands such as Slade, Hot Chocolate and David Essex before forming Cutting Crew in the mid-'80s with Kevin Scott MacMichael, Colin Farley and Martin Beadle recording three albums, Broadcast, The Scattering, and Compus Mentus, before the group broke up in 1993. Damon Minchella is a base player who was a member of the band Ocean Colour Scene for 14 years. The band were one of the biggest of the Brit Pop era and sold millions of records scoring five top ten albums and 15 top 20 singles. When Damon left the band he would go on to play in Paul Weller’s band, racking up equally impressive chart stats and playing live across the world. Damon's reputation as one of the UK’s most talented bassists saw him in much in demand playing live or in the studio with greats as Paul McCartney, The Who, Jimmy Page, Doctor John, Paolo Nutini, Amy Winehouse, Richard Ashcroft and Oasis. Liam Ó Maonlaí is a founding member of the Irish band Hothouse Flowers. Liam blends an eclectic mix of folk, blues, gospel, soul, rock, and more with his amazing vocals and an array of instrumental mastery from piano to flute, harmonica to bodhran. Liam formed the Hothouse Flowers in 1985, cutting their teeth busking on the streets of Dublin their reputation grew and soon they would sign to U2 label, Mother Records, releasing the single "Love Don't Work This Way". The first album “People” would be released through London Records and was hugely successful with the global hit “Don’t Go” which the band played at the interval at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest propelling the band across the world. On this week’s episode we are joined by Joe Esposito. Joe Esposito, also known by his nickname "Bean," is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He formed the vocal group Brooklyn Dreams in the 1970s, alongside Eddie Hokenson and Bruce Sudano. The trio quickly gained recognition for their harmonious sound and songwriting abilities with their big break coming when they collaborated with disco queen Donna Summer. While Esposito found success with Brooklyn Dreams, his solo career also flourished. He became well-known for his powerful and emotive voice, which led to numerous opportunities in both the recording studio and the realm of film music. One of his most famous solo tracks is "You're the Best," featured in the 1984 film "The Karate Kid." This song, known for its motivational lyrics and catchy melody, has become an enduring anthem of triumph and perseverance. Joe has worked with a variety of renowned artists. Notably, he co-wrote the hit "Lady, Lady, Lady," which was performed by Giorgio Moroder and featured in the film "Flashdance." His ability to craft memorable melodies and poignant lyrics has made him a sought-after collaborator in the music industry.

John Parr is a Grammy-nominated English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who hit it big in the mid-'80s with a pair of chart-topping singles, Naughty Naughty and the iconic St. Elmo's Fire from the 1985 classic movie of the same name. We discuss the inspiration behind the writing of St. Elmo's Fire and how it generated millions for charity. Parr also contributed songs to other films, including Three Men and a Baby, Near Dark, and the Running Man. John has just released a new drama, documentary "Unconquered" which tells the story of two solders who were severely injured. It follows their incredible journey out of the darkness through the love of family, the bond of brotherhood and their shared passion….Sport. John is still performing concerts and at the release of this episode was preparing for his appearance at the Forever Young festival in Ireland.

Billy Steinberg is an American songwriter who was inducted into the songwriters hall of fame in 2011. Billy has had Number 1 hits in the USA with "Like A Virgin" (Madonna), "True Colors" (Cyndi Lauper), "So Emotional" (Whitney Houston), "Eternal Flame" (The Bangles) and “Alone” (Heart).


Billy co-wrote other well-known Top 10 hits, including "I'll Stand By You" (Pretenders, Carrie Underwood), "I Touch Myself" (the Divinyls), "How Do I Make You" (Linda Ronstadt), "I Drove All Night" (Roy Orbison, Cyndi Lauper, Celine Dion), "In Your Room" (The Bangles) and “Too Little Too Late” (JoJo).


We discuss the creative process in writing the hits and find out if Quentin Tarantino was correct with his metaphor for "Like A Virgin" in Reservoir Dogs.

On this week’s episode we are joined by Colin Blunstone, Colin is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He started his career in 1962 while still in school as a singer and founding member of The Zombies where he remained until the band split in 1968. The group had British and American hits with "She's Not There" and "Tell Her No". Shortly before the band split, they released their masterpiece, Odessey and Oracle, featuring the mega-hit “Time of the Season” and the beautiful "This Will Be Our Year”, with the album being credited by many musicians as the best of that decade. In 1971 Colin released his debut solo album "One Year” which was co-produced and partly co-written by The Zombies co-founder Rod Argent. Hits such as "Say You Don't Mind", "Caroline Goodbye" and the haunting "Old and Wise" recorded with Alan Parsons Project, would follow. By the start of the new Millennium, Blunstone and Argent were inspired to resurrect The Zombies, which has led to several critically acclaimed new albums including the 2023 release "Different Game" which has been met with very positive reviews.

Peter Dillon is an Irish stunt coordinator, stunt performer and actor. Having spent several years working as a secondary school teacher in Ireland, Peter took a career break in 1998, which saw him trek the Himalayas to an altitude of 18,000 feet, teach scuba diving in the South China Sea, and further his study of Chinese Martial Arts in Malaysia and China. Arriving in New Zealand it wasn't long before he made the transition into stunt acting in 2001, on "The Lord of the Rings" Trilogy. He has since worked on lots of projects and his credits include "The Chronicles of Narnia", "Underworld", "Vikings", "Penny Dreadful" James Cameron's "Avatar" and the recent box office hit "Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves". Sananda Maitreya started his career with the stage name Terence Trent D'Arby, he is an American singer and songwriter who came to fame with his debut studio album, Introducing The Hardline According To Terrence Trent D'Arby. The album was released in 1987 and included the singles "If You Let Me Stay", "Sign Your Name", "Dance Little Sister", and the number one smash hit "Wishing Well". The Release of his second album in 1989, Neither Fish Nor Flesh, was very different from his debut, and music critics seemed eager for Sananda to release music in the tone and style of his successful debut. Although not a commercial success the album has grown in recognition over the years. On this weeks 100th episode we are joined by Gavin Friday. Gavin, born and bred in Dublin is a singer, songwriter, composer, actor, painter and all round Irish legend, best known as a founding member The Virgin Prunes who were one of Ireland's most ambitious post-punk groups. Gavin left The Prunes in 1986 going on to record several solo albums and soundtracks. Gavin collaborated with Bono to write three tracks for the Jim Sheridan movie, In the Name of the Father, two of which were Bono-Friday vocal duets with Sinead O’Connor singing the third. He contributed the song "Angel" to one of the biggest selling soundtracks of all time - Romeo and Juliet as well as a full score for the films The Boxer, Angel Baby, In America and Get Rich or Die Tryin. Gavin still puts the same energy into his work that he did when he started the virgin prunes in 1977, whether recording his own albums or composing music. Kieran and Derek are joined by Grammy award winner Billy Vera. Billy is an American singer, actor, writer and music historian who's musical career spans decades and many different musical genres, from R&B to Soul and Country to Rock-n-roll. Often compared to the vocal stylings of the great blues singers, he remains one of the most respected vocalists of our time. Billy scored an international hit with the timeless "At This Moment" which was used in the TV show, Family Ties. Vera's songs have been recorded by artists such as Ricky Nelson, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt, Robert Plant, Fats Domino, The Shirelles, Tom Jones and Michael Buble. Billy appeared in the cult film, “Buckaroo Banzai”, Oliver Stone’s “The Doors”, Blake Edwards “Blind Date” as well as various TV shows including “Wise Guy” and “Baywatch”

Derek and Kieran are joined by broadcaster, journalist and author Terry Christian. A stalwart of the Manchester scene Terry has championed music from his beloved city throughout his career.  Terry first appeared on national TV in the show Devil's Advocate this would be the catalyst for a career in media. Terry hosted radio shows for the BBC and Manchester's Key FM. Moving back to TV Terry would become the host of Channel 4's iconic early 90's show The Word.  Here many groups would be playing live for the first time on British TV, including Oasis, Nirvana, Snoop Dogg, Public Enemy and Rage Against the Machine. Christian remained its only continuous presenter until it finished its run in 1995. We discuss his new stand up show The Word IS - Terry Christian, and just what makes a good Dublin Coddle! Kieran and Derek are joined by Glen Matlock. Glen is an English musician, and the original bass guitarist of the punk rock band the Sex Pistols. He is credited as a songwriter on 10 of the 12 songs on the Sex Pistols' only album, Never Mind The Bollocks. After leaving the Sex Pistols, Matlock went on to form the Rich Kids, with himself as bass guitarist and singer, Midge Ure.  A constant on the music scene he would play with The Philistines, Dead Men Walking and Slinky Vagabond while rejoining the original Sex Pistols members for the first of their many reunion tours (1996, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2008). In April of 2022, Matlock was asked to join legendary New York band Blondie for their UK and US tours. Matlock remains a touring member of the group and is currently slated to appear on their forthcoming 2023 new studio album. Glen’s long-awaited, timely and politically pertinent new solo album Consequences Coming will be released on April 27, 2023. A first single and video from the record “Head On A Stick” is released on January 27, 2023. Pete Best is a British musician who is best known as the original drummer for The Beatles. Best joined The Beatles in 1960 when they were still known as The Quarrymen. He played with the band during their early years in Liverpool and their initial trips to Hamburg, Germany.However, Best's time with The Beatles came to an end in 1962, just before the band achieved worldwide fame. He was replaced by Ringo Starr. The exact reasons for his replacement have been the subject of speculation and debate over the years.After leaving The Beatles, Best continued to pursue a career in music. He formed his own band, The Pete Best Four, and released several albums and singles. Best also made appearances on television and in films, and he remained connected to the music industry throughout his life.While he may not have achieved the same level of fame as his former bandmates, Pete Best holds a unique place in music history as the original drummer of The Beatles during their early days. His contributions to the band's early sound and his role in their formative years are still recognized and celebrated by fans worldwide.

On this week’s episode Derek and Kieran are joined by blue eyed soul and jazz Singer, Songwriter and Musician Sam Brown. Born in London in October 1964, Sam has been active in music industry from the age of 12. She came to prominence in the late 1980s as a solo artist, and released six singles that entered the UK Singles Chart during the 1980s and 1990s

Brown released her debut album Stop! in 1988 and in total has released six studio albums, one EP, one live album, and three compilation albums, as well as three albums as part of the group Homespun. She developed serious problems with her singing voice in 2007 after which she stopped recording and singing live.

Her new album Number 8 is due to release on the 20th of January
