| š“ 8. The two-ticket connection strategy | 07 Jan 2025 | 00:06:02 | |
Today, I want to share an insightful idea that stuck with me from a Christmas lunch in 2023, hosted by my friend Kate Peardon. At this gathering, I chatted with Nicole Dyson, an inspiring figure in education and innovation. She suggested a brilliant strategy for enhancing relationships: whenever you're interested in an event, just buy two tickets and decide who to invite later. This proactive approach can really help in making those catch-ups happen, whether it's a concert, stand-up comedy, or a show. It even adds an element of spontaneity and adventure into your social life. For 2025, consider adopting this strategyābuy two tickets in advance and figure out your guest afterwards. And remember, it's perfectly fine to go solo sometimes too! This tip from Nicole has been a game-changer for me, and I hope it brings more joy and connection into your life as well. | š“157. Chat coming in hot | 05 Jun 2025 | 00:08:02
I just wrapped up a webinar for a long-time client ā an organisation that delivers live, critical, and completely anonymous support via webinars. Thatās right. No faces. No names. Just silence... and a flurry of comments in the chat. So how do you respond when the comments start rolling in ā especially when the stakes are high and the people on the other side might be feeling overwhelmed, unseen, or unheard? Today, I share the 4 archetypes Iāve created to explain the choices we have when responding to chat ā in real-time, whether you're on a livestream, hosting a masterclass, or even navigating in-person Q&A. š The Fog ā You miss the moment š The Birdwatcher ā You see it, let it fly š The Listener ā You acknowledge, but donāt fix šŗ The Guide ā You go there, with intention We also talk:
If you ever find yourself juggling incoming comments with a tight run sheet, this oneās for you. Let me know which archetype you default to ā and if youāve found any hacks for managing emotional or high-stakes chat in live sessions. | š“156. Clarity isn't found, it's chosen | 04 Jun 2025 | 00:05:36
Today's episode is all about clarityāwhat it gives you, and where it can trip you up. I reflect on something powerful I heard on The Diary of a CEO with Jimmy Fallon. He shared his obsession with getting on Saturday Night Liveāhow he wrote it in his journal, non-negotiable, and pursued it with singular focus. That kind of energy? Thatās clarity. Right now, Iām getting that same type of clarity from my Everest Base Camp + Lobuche Peak goal. I didnāt have a weighted vest a few months ago, but now itās part of the toolkit. Why? Because the what is setāand the how is starting to fall into place. š„ The insight I want to share with you today? We often get caught up in the how before weāve decided on the what. And thatās what kills momentum. If I had started asking āhowā too soon, I wouldāve talked myself out of this trek: no hiking experience, no elevation training, no love for leg day. But I set the what, and that decision has mobilized everything else. So todayās encouragement is simple: Stop asking āhowā too soon. Get clear on what you want. The how will come. Trust yourself to figure it out. šBonus tangent: I also rave about my new weighted vest (so many pockets!) and mention the hilarious Jimmy Fallon/Nicole Kidman clip, which you must watch if you need a mood boost. Iāll link it in the show notes. Thanks for sticking with me through the puffing and pantingāsee you tomorrow! *New* You're invited to join Leanne's free community, Work Fame. | š“147. Mash-ups | 26 May 2025 | 00:05:51
Todayās episode is inspired by a night out under the stars at Brisbaneās Riverstage, where I saw Train live (highly recommend, by the way!). It got me thinking ā not just about great music, but about mashups. Remixes. Genre-bending. And how we can apply that same creativity to our work. From acoustic sets to DJ teases, to a live mashup of KT Tunstall and Razorlight (unexpected and excellent), this whole experience reminded me of something I love: contrast. And how powerful it is to combine unexpected things to create something fresh. In this episode, I riff on:
Prompt for you: What genre are you playing in your business right now? And what unexpected element could you mash in to make it more original, engaging ā or just more you? Let me know what youāre remixing ā Iād love to hear from you. Thanks again for tuning in. š§ ~ Leanne *New* You're invited to join Leanne's free community, Work Fame. I talk about my love for Vietnamese food and how visiting a cluster of similar stores showed me that competition isnāt something to fearāitās an opportunity. I recount my personal experience at different food spots where I discovered that when businesses are close together, they naturally push each other to improve. I invite you to think about how this approach can apply to your own work or business. Instead of seeing competition as a threat, I challenge you to consider how it can signal market demand and inspire you to refine your own offerings. Reflect:

| š“55. Leanne's (boring) way to manage overwhelm | 23 Feb 2025 | 00:08:48 | |
Hey there! Today's episode is super fresh because I've been actively putting these strategies into practice. I want to share with you my process for dealing with overwhelm, and how I've discovered that treating everything as a project brings amazing clarity. What Overwhelm Feels Like For MeYou know those moments when you're in the shower, driving, or trying to sleep, and suddenly remember "Oh no, I didn't contact that person!" or "I forgot to respond to that email!"? When these micro-reminders keep popping up, that's my sign that overwhelm is creeping in. When I'm not overwhelmed, I'm typically proactive and on top of things. But when these little reminders start haunting me, it's time to take action. My Key Strategy: Everything Is A ProjectHere's something crucial - I don't separate work and life. Whether it's preparing for a workshop or remembering to get cash for the gardener, it all goes into one system. Why? Because these tasks all use up mental bandwidth, and the second I write them down, I feel better. My Simple But Effective SystemWant to know what works for me? Here's my process: I use Google Sheets (I've tried Asana, Trello, but this is my favourite). Here's what I do:
The magic happens when you get everything out of your head and onto the sheet. Those floating ideas that were consuming your mental RAM? They now have a home. It's like having a trusted system that lets your brain relax. Pro Tips
I'd love to hear your strategies for managing overwhelm. Send me a voice note on social media or email me What works for you? How do you handle those overwhelming moments? Remember, sometimes the simplest systems are the most effective. This method might not work for everyone, but it's been a game-changer for me. Try it out and let me know how it goes! Over the weekend, I had the incredible experience of seeing poet-philosopher David Whyte live in Byron Bay. His words didnāt just landāthey cut straight to the core. In this episode, I share some of his most profound passages, including a powerful take on branding and identity that shook me. David Whyte challenges the way we see ourselves, reminding us that brandingāsomething so many of us chaseācan actually trap us. He describes it as an external mark of ownership, something that confines us rather than setting us free. And honestly? That hit hard. I also reflect on: ⨠The tension between visibility and vulnerabilityāhow being seen means being open to both connection and criticism. ⨠A poem called "Just Beyond Yourself," which offers a beautiful reminder about growth, letting go, and stepping into the unknown. ⨠How this experience made me rethink the evolving nature of my own brandāand what it means to show up as your real self. This episode is for you if youāve ever felt boxed in by your own success, a label, or an expectationāwhether itās a personal brand, a job title, or even just how others see you. š§ Tune in, reflect, and let me knowāwhat part of this resonated with you? š© Drop me a message on socials, or email me at hello@leannehughes.com. š Discover more about David Whyte's work. *New* You're invited to join Leanne's free community, Work Fame. | š“146. The rise of vibe marketing and the fall of LinkedIn? | 25 May 2025 | 00:06:23
Happy Monday! Today Iām riffing on a recent episode of Greg Isenbergās Startup Ideas podcast that had my brain buzzing. I love how freely Greg and his guests share what theyāre experimenting withāthis time, it was all about using AI agents to automate āvibe marketing.ā Basically, itās like this: You prompt an agent to research top-performing content, write posts in your voice (as a conversion copywriter, no less!), and publish across platforms like LinkedIn or X⦠completely hands-off. Sounds wild, right? While Iām intrigued by the idea (and Iāll be testing it this week), Iām also skepticalāespecially when I think about how LinkedIn is feeling lately. Honestly? Itās been a slurry of soulless AI content. Automated comments. Robotic replies. And while it has been the best platform for my brand, Iām spending less and less time there. Instead, Iām gravitating towards Substack. It just feels more real, more human. Like thereās still you behind the words. I also talk about:
Itās a bit of a brain-dump episode, but heyāthatās what Leanne on Demand is all about. Let me know what you think. | š“ 36. Escaping the Hesitation Station | 04 Feb 2025 | 00:07:52
Today, I want to talk about a concept I shared last year called the "Hesitation Station" - a place we all know too well. It's that metaphorical waiting room where ideas get stuck and potential goes unrealised Imagine a dark, dreary station with trains coming and going, but you have no idea which direction they're heading. There are no vending machines, everything's running behind schedule. This station can exist for a few minutes, months, or even years. And the longer you stay, the harder it becomes to move. I've realised that one of the biggest reasons we get stuck is the fear of failure. It's safer to hold back, to not give something a try. We feed our ego by avoiding potential disappointment. But I've learned that it's more painful to not take the risk than to face potential judgment. 2. Over-PlanningWe want to plan everything, to make sure outcomes are certain before we even start. But life doesn't work that way. The best insights come when you actually put your ideas out into the world, when you test them beyond your own thoughts. 3. Searching for the Perfect "Why"I love strategy, but sometimes we overthink it. You don't need to have every single detail figured out. Nothing is permanent. In this digital age, you can put an offer out there, try it out, and learn from the validation you receive. Take my daily podcast, for example. Two years ago, I met Eddie Quan who inspired this daily content approach. I initially rejected the idea, but here I am now. There's something cathartic about sharing your message daily.
I recently spoke with my friend Sophia about her idea to start a live stream about football. My advice? Just do it. Even if it's an unlisted YouTube video, the experience of going live changes everything. Some periods of hesitation are okay. As I discussed with Dr. Maike Neuhaus, sometimes it's good to be in a period of stability, even if it's uncertain. Not every idea needs to be pursued immediately. What's the simplest way you can start sharing your idea? It's okay if you don't pursue it fully. The important thing is to make your work public, to take that first step. Remember the quote from Alan Weiss: "We need to stop walking around the block to get next door." How can you jump that fence and leave the Hesitation Station? I'll be sharing more insights about this throughout the year. If you have specific questions, feel free to reach out. Thanks for listening, and I'll speak to you tomorrow. *New* You're invited to join Leanne's free community, Work Fame. Show notes for every episode at https://podcast.leannehughes.com P.S.
