Want to know where I go when I’m feeling down? I go spend time with four-year-olds! They are the friendliest and most authentic people I know.

I find myself showered with compliments, questions, and requests to be best friends. Where along the road do we lose the openness and authenticity we had as little girls?

As women business owners, we often get so focused on our own success that we are afraid to connect with and compliment other women we see doing well. It is my firm belief that when women collaborate and connect with each other, we can do more than we can do on our own!

It’s no secret that running a business can be scary. You grow a business, put yourself out there, and depend on other people. It can be overwhelming at times and feel impossible to run your business without fear. 

Now, I don’t like the term fearless. In fact, I don’t think that we can be fearless. It’s a very real emotion and there is no denying that. However, running our business out of fear can seriously derail us. It can stop us from running our business in alignment with our core mission, vision, and values. 

I’ve seen my share of struggles with my businesses in the last couple of years. I know how easy it is to let fear drive your decisions in your business and I’ve had to take a step back and reevaluate. 

As business owners, it’s our responsibility to set the mission, vision, and values of our organization and hold people accountable, and you can’t do that from a place of fear. Your quality and standards will suffer and you’ll compromise the integrity of your business.

We’ve all heard that comparison is the thief of joy, but lately, I’ve realized how true that really is. 

All the time I hear women talking about how they should be doing something because they see someone else doing it, and believe me, I fall into this trap too. I get it. 

Why do we think that doing something we don’t want to do is somehow going to make us feel happier or more successful?

This episode is a replay of the most popular episode of 2024 from the Leading Lady podcast.  It is about rejecting comparison and instead celebrating all of our unique qualities and successes. Just because one woman experienced success in something, doesn’t mean you have to do it too. You can be happy for her and move on, and that doesn’t make you a failure. She started with BBCLC when they first opened their doors in September of 2004 and has a total of 24 years of experience working in Early Education. Aubrey has always been passionate about working with children and making a difference in every child’s life that walks through BBCLC’s doors. Her mission has always been to create a safe, nurturing and fun environment for all children to learn and grow. 

Aubrey currently resides in Glen Burnie, Maryland, with her two boys, Cruz (age 9) and Enzo (age 3). They love trying new experiences, spending as much time outside, and going out to eat.

She also serves on the Board of the Annapolis Police Foundation and The Annapolis Police Scholarship Fund. In response to the pandemic, she was part of the team that became known as the Annapolis Backpack Collaborative. They raised $40,000 to buy desperately needed school supplies for 2500 students in the City of Annapolis!

In this episode of Leading Lady, I want to share my experience with my daughter who went through sorority recruitment, or rush, as a freshman in college.

People feel pretty passionately about sororities. Some feel it’s archaic and toxic, some think it’s a wonderful experience and really appreciate the community and the opportunities that being in a sorority presents. 

My experience with this whole process was a bit of a culture shock, to be honest. However, it’s important to remember that everyone’s experience is unique to them. There is no right or wrong blanket statement when it comes to sororities. 

My daughter and I both learned a lot from this experience. One of the biggest takeaways from this is that no one likes rejection, but it is a very real part of life. 

As much as rejection hurts, we have to recognize that it’s not our place to determine if we are the right fit for someone else. We should instead focus on looking for situations where we are wanted, celebrated, and accepted.

Do you feel like you are a leading lady?

Sabrina has worked in Web Development at several prestigious companies including IBM, National Geographic, and most recently Georgetown University Law Center. She started her company, Astrid Digital, in January 2020, just in time for the pandemic to hit. Astrid Digital specializes in social media strategy and marketing for small to medium businesses. 

Since mid-2020, Sabrina has been training for a career in voiceover acting and recently launched a new website for her voiceover career, Sabrina Mapp, Voiceover.

She is sharing her story, energy, and vibrance in this episode to inspire and challenge you to take the reins on your own life and truly become a strong leading lady.
