287: The Cost of Being the Holiday Magician09 Dec 202500:24:48

What happens when the person who creates all the holiday magic realizes she's running on empty? In this episode, I'm getting honest about a moment when I completely unraveled over something as simple as a Christmas tree—and why that moment revealed so much more beneath the surface. I share the invisible emotional labor so many high-achieving women carry this time of year, how "good enough" never feels like enough, and why holiday cheer can so easily hide burnout, resentment, and exhaustion.

I'm also breaking down the shift from being the holiday magician—the one who makes everything sparkle—to becoming the holiday architect who designs the season with intention, boundaries, and shared responsibility. From identifying your real non-negotiable magic to releasing the things you've outgrown, this episode is a grounded, compassionate look at reclaiming joy during a season that often asks for more than it gives.

3 Questions To Ask Yourself Daily To Feel Focused and In Control Of Your Time: Fan Favorite Replay02 Dec 202500:14:27

In today's episode, I am going to walk you through the 3 questions you should ask yourself daily if you want to feel focused and in control of your time.  I love waking up and enjoying a cup of coffee in silence before the rest of my house gets up for the day.  This quiet time allows me to sit with myself and think about my core values.  I think about my priorities, plan out my day, and get in the right frame of mind so I can move throughout my day with purpose and intention.

I developed these questions for myself and now use them as one of the first exercises I do with my coaching clients.  These questions lead them to feel more focused and in control of their time.

For many people, including myself, to-do lists can often feel daunting and heavy.  I have actually gotten away from using a to-do list and now spend my energy on my top priorities that will move my business and life forward.

How do you spend your morning?  I encourage you to start using these questions as you start your day.

Reach out to me on Instagram and share your answers with me and I will share mine! I love hearing from you!

277: Growth Brings Criticism: Leading Through It30 Sep 202500:25:01

Have you ever noticed how the more you grow, the more criticism you seem to attract? In this episode of the Leading Lady Podcast, I dive into the connection between growth and criticism—why it happens, how it impacts us as leaders, and what we can do to navigate it with resilience and confidence. I open up about my own experiences as a business owner, from handling personal attacks and misconceptions to reframing criticism into opportunities for growth.

We'll explore the emotional sting of criticism, why it often comes from unexpected places, and how to build healthy boundaries while still staying open to meaningful feedback. If you've ever felt like judgment or fear of being misunderstood has kept you from stepping fully into your potential, this conversation will remind you that you're not alone—and that growth and criticism are often two sides of the same coin.

Get ready to hear one of the most popular Leading Lady episodes from the past!

Have you ever had a cake pop before? Chocolate is my favorite.

I am such a big fan of Lisa's Cakepops in Severna Park, Mayland, so I decided to interview Lisa Schneiderman in this episode.

Not only did I want to hear all about how she makes the most delicious and creative creations, but I also wanted to hear how she was able to turn a passion into a business later in life!

While Lisa and I definitely touch on the flavors and designs of her cake pops, we mostly chat about how she started a new career after the age of 50, how she knew she could pursue her passion, and the many ways that we can all support a small business like hers.

Lisa is so in tune with her purpose and passion, and I so admire her bravery and dedication to it. I know you will too while you listen.

This conversation will inspire you, motivate you, and of course, make you want to order from Lisa's Cake Pops yourself, so don't miss it!

183: Fan Favorite Replay: The Importance of Kindness and It's Impact on Your Life26 Sep 202300:16:26

The definition of kindness is the quality of being generous, considerate, and friendly. It's a simple concept, but one that can be difficult to put into action at all times. Have you ever stopped to think about WHY it's so important to be kind and how it can impact you as the giver?

In this episode, we chat candidly about kindness and altruism. We also dive into the vast amounts of research about kindness and how it can impact our physical health as well as our life satisfaction.

If you weren't already convinced of the value of being kind, then I hope that this episode does the trick. Kindness truly is a quality that benefits the giver as much as it does the receiver. In the uncertainty of our current situations, one thing that we can all control is the choice to be kind. I hope that you will choose kindness and impact the world around you for good.

178: How to Serve Others Through Mentorship with Julie Campbell: A Fan Favorite Replay22 Aug 202300:19:15

Have you ever felt a desire to serve others but felt lost on how to do it?

Mentoring can be truly transformational for both the mentee and the mentor.

We may not realize it but we all inherently serve others. In fact, a majority of the time we are either in the position of a teacher or a student. We naturally mentor those around us and it can be easy to overlook the huge impact we are making on each other's lives.

In this fan favorite replay episode of the Leading Lady Podcast, we are chatting with Julie Campbell about how and why you should consider becoming a mentor.

Julie is a wife, a mother, and a retired Naval officer. After spending 10 years in the commercial aerospace industry, her passion for mentoring and serving others led her to become the first President and CEO of the non-profit Severn Leadership Group, a movement of like-minded leaders who support leaders of character committed to serving others before self.

So many people have a desire to serve others in their communities and becoming a mentor is a powerful and effective way to do that. You're never too busy to become a mentor.

Tune in to hear how you can use this natural ability to make a huge impact on others!

Why You Should Consider Outsourcing Your Business Accounting: Fan Favorite Replay23 Sep 202500:36:22

I have been in business for a long time now. One thing that I learned early on in my business journey is the importance of having a professional help you with your accounting and taxes.

There are so many things that we have to handle and worry about as entrepreneurs. If there is one thing that is important enough to outsource and get help, this is it.

In this episode, I am chatting with my dear friend Jaime Thompson about the importance of getting help with your business accounting.

Jaime Thompson is one of Nicholynn Advisors owners, a full-service accounting firm whose focus is on being the trusted business advisor for small businesses and nonprofits. Jaime's experience working first in a CPA firm and then later as the accountant for a private company gave her unique insight into both sides of the accounting partnership. Jaime is a Lifetime Girl Scout, a role that taught her service above self and always to leave things better than when you found them, both of which Jaime applies to her relationship with her clients. When she's not working, Jaime enjoys hiking, boating, and spending time with her family, and as a true Marylander, she loves eating crab!

If there is one thing that you outsource, I encourage you to consider your business accounting. The peace of mind you will have in knowing that your finances are handled properly is well worth the cost.

176: Take The Lead: Epilogue, Acknowledgments, Closing Remarks08 Aug 202300:20:36

What does it mean to be a leading lady?

Our summer read of Take The Lead is coming to a close and this question is what I'm reflecting on. If you're just tuning in, I've been reading one chapter per episode from my own book for the last 12 episodes, and in this one, I'm winding things down with the epilogue and acknowledgments, plus I'm sharing some reflections on how I feel a year after the book's release.

In this episode, I talk about the value of sharing our stories, what it really means to be a leading lady, and why the world needs you. Yes, YOU! I hope you enjoy hearing my thoughts on the purpose of Take The Lead and what it was like to write it. It's been really interesting for me to reread the whole book a year later and see how much I've grown even in that time.

A leading lady has to learn and grow; a leader can't stay the same forever.

Topics covered in this episode include:

  • What it really means to be a leading lady

  • How to honor your role as a leader in different seasons of your life

175: Take The Lead: Chapter 1201 Aug 202300:45:07

What does it really mean to be resilient?

Over the last 12 episodes, I've been reading one chapter a week from my book, Take The Lead. If you're just tuning in, you can go back to Episode 163 to start from the beginning of the book, or you can listen to each episode as a standalone.

You're joining me now for the final chapter and this one is all about resilience.

The truth about resilience is that it's more complex than just bouncing back after a traumatic event. It's about taking time to learn from your mistakes and building rest and recovery time into your schedule so that you can perform at your best. Resilience is a lifestyle, not a momentary reaction.

Topics covered in this episode include:

  • What resilience really is

  • The danger of comparison

  • The importance of prioritizing rest

  • Giving yourself and others space to process emotions

Hit play on this episode and together we'll take a deeper dive into the true meaning of resilience.

167: Take The Lead: Chapter 430 May 202300:43:06

If you listen to the show, you probably know that I have always preferred paid advertising. The entire time I have been in business, organic marketing has not been a strength or focus of mine.

That being said, I did something that made me uncomfortable. I challenged myself to post 30 Reels for 30 days to see what would happen when I actually tried out some organic marketing for my business.

I went into it wanting to prove myself wrong about organic marketing and show myself that it was worth the effort. And so in this episode of Your Million Dollar Side Hustle, I'm sharing the exact results of that challenge and what it means for my business going forward.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The three things I learned from posting 30 Reels in 30 days

  • My honest thoughts about organic marketing with social media

  • The conversion rate I got from my organic versus paid marketing efforts

  • The organic marketing I'll be leaning into going forward

  • Why working with a coach can be a game-changer for your business

  • How I plan to increase my conversion rate in the future

  • How I feel about organic marketing after this experiment

I hope you enjoyed my honest thoughts on this experiment! In the end, it solidified why I prefer paid ads so much more than organic marketing.

Make sure to tune in next week to catch my interview with Lauren Taylor and learn how she's going to be helping me with Instagram over the next several weeks!

If you had the power to alter anything in your past, what would you change?

For a long time, I would have told you about the pain, confusion, and loss that I would erase from my life, but now my answer is very different. I wouldn't change anything about my past because those experiences made me who I am today.

In this episode of the Leading Lady podcast, I'm reading Chapter 3 of my book Take The Lead, and as you can probably tell, this is a chapter about learning to embrace and celebrate yourself.

If you want to start from the beginning of the book, go back to episode 163, but you can listen to these episodes in any order!

Have you ever felt like you had to hide behind a mask to be accepted?

In this episode, I'm reading Chapter 2 of my book Take The Lead. If you want to start from the beginning of the book, go back to episode 163, but really you can listen to these episodes in any order!

This chapter covers some difficult years of my life. We're talking about pageants, high school, female rivalry, masks, and identity.

It's hard for me to revisit the years of my life that were filled with so much insecurity. I did learn a lot from those experiences, but that doesn't make it any easier to remember them. However, now I know that I was able to pull through and discover who I really am. Today I connect with leading ladies like you by showing up as myself, being vulnerable, and sharing my insecurities. That feels a lot better than trying to hide behind a mask.

Topics covered in this episode include:

  • The masks we learn to wear throughout life

  • Reconnecting with your identity

  • Messages we internalize about ourselves as children

  • Finding your authenticity

Women in the corporate world are often told that they have to put their work before everything else in order to be successful or in order to climb the corporate ladder, they can't "be difficult."

158: Self-Care Isn't Selfish, It's An Act of Bravery (Fan Favorite Replay)28 Mar 202300:14:31

Do you practice self-care?

We hear all the time that self-care is so important. We are always encouraged to practice it with meditation, bubble baths, and walks. But the world and all of our expectations, responsibilities, and commitments can make any form of real self-care feel impossible. We have families and businesses and friends, and it's easy to prioritize ourselves last!

In this episode of The Leading Lady Podcast, I'm sharing why self-care is actually an act of bravery and why you need to start making yourself a priority in your life for your own well-being.

As high-achieving women, it's scary to take a step back when we need it because we don't want to let anyone down. That means that you have to say no and back out of commitments when you over-committed yourself, and it takes courage to admit to others that you need to prioritize your mental health.

In a world where we are idolized for stretching ourselves too thin, being a part of hustle culture, and being seen as a woman that can do all the things, it is so easy for self-care to just fall off our radar.

You can't light yourself on fire to keep others warm. Self-care isn't selfish, it's a necessity. Tune in to hear more about why practicing self-care is an act of bravery and how to start making it a priority.

274: How Venting Impacts Your Mindset and Relationships: Fan Favorite Replay09 Sep 202500:21:13

When we feel frustrated or angry, it is human nature to want to "vent" and share our challenges with others. It helps us feel less alone in our trials and relieve some stress, but is it always helpful?

In this episode, I share my perspective about "venting" conversations and when they are helpful and when they become simply gossip.

After listening in, I hope that you will pause and think about the purpose of your venting before your next conversation with a friend. It will definitely make a positive impact on your mindset and your relationships.

Liz Murphy is back for another episode to ask me more questions, and this time they're all about what to do when things get to be too much.

151: Behind the Scenes of My VIP Strategy Days (with Liz Murphy)07 Feb 202300:28:09

When you're planning in your business, do you try to tune everything else out, or do you let all the other areas of your life inform what you want for your business?

In this episode, my dear friend and fellow ambassador Liz Murphy is taking over and we're switching seats. She's here to interview me and pick my brain about my VIP Strategy Day and what really goes into strategically planning a business.

The main question that I'm answering is: why do we need to look at every area of our lives in order to effectively strategically plan our businesses? I believe that you need to be looking at and talking about yourself as a woman, human, wife, friend, and all the other titles that are important to you before you can show up as your best self as a business owner. Why is that?

You'll have to tune in to the episode to find out!

147: The Story Behind Leading Lady Coaching10 Jan 202300:20:57

Welcome to 2023!

I can't believe that Leading Lady is going into its third year, and I want to take a moment to thank you for being a listener and subscriber. I am thrilled to be a resource for you and to have a space where we can talk about real things like leadership, business, and being the best version of ourselves.

If you're new to the show or it's been a while, I wanted to take a minute to re-introduce myself. In this episode of Leading Lady, I'm sharing how I got started, who I am, and what my background is. Since it's the new year, I thought it was the perfect time to do that and give you a little information on why the Leading Lady coaching community exists.

I learned a lot about business, life, and leadership in the time since starting my first business which led me to where I am today. When you're looking for a coach to help you achieve your goals, it's important for you to know their background so that you can understand if they truly know where you're coming from or the complexity of the issues you are experiencing.

So I want you to have a good idea of who I am and where I have been. I know what it took for me to take control of my life and business, and that's why I want to share my perspective and journey with you.

If you want to learn even more about my background and how I got here, make sure to tune in!

146: Is 2023 The Year You Invest in Coaching?03 Jan 202300:14:30

It's officially 2023!

I can't believe the new year is finally here. Welcome back! To kick off this year, I want to use this episode of Leading Lady to discuss how to know when it's time to invest in coaching.

I work with clients in several different ways. There's usually a common theme for when people reach out to me. The first is someone new to business and they want to get set up for success so that they can work smarter, not harder. They want guidance so that they can get a jump start on building their business with confidence and ease.

The second type of person that reaches out to me is generally an established business. They've been in business for a while and they're really good at what they do. They're so successful and now their business has taken over their life. So they find themselves struggling with work-life balance, boundaries, and priority management. They feel like their business owns them.

Furthermore, I work with people in a group coaching capacity and through the Annapolis Collective.

So how do you know if it's time for you to invest in coaching? I'm often surprised at how women will put off investing in themselves. When you invest in coaching, you are investing in yourself. It pays off in so many ways.

Tune in to learn more about how I work with business owners and how to know if you should make 2023 the year you take the leap and invest in yourself with coaching.

145: Know Your Worth27 Dec 202200:14:23

How well do you know your worth?

In this episode, I want to tell you a story.

I recently had an exchange that left me with a better understanding of what it means to know your worth and what you bring to the table. As you'll hear in the episode, it left me pretty stunned for a moment, but I'm really proud of how I handled it, and I want to share that with you.

Want to know how I handled it so well? Because I know my own worth and I'm confident in what I bring to the table. That's what I want for you too!

If this is something you struggle with (trust me, we've all been there), I hope this episode helps!
