| Aqueducts, Art and AI — What Rome Still Has to Teach Us | 15 Sep 2026 | 00:51:02 | |
Today we are going to explore something different. When we think of an advanced society, we usually think of technology. But technological sophistication is not always the same as civilizational sophistication. Rome's genius was not simply invention. Later, Christian Rome used those same instincts through painting, sculpture, and urban design to communicate faith. Today's conversation with historian and art historian Elizabeth Lev is about technology, art, and the human person—and what Rome might still teach us about what it really means to be an advanced civilization. About the Guest Elizabeth Lev is the author of How Catholic Art Saved the Faith and several other books on art, technology and history. . She holds degrees in art history from the University of Chicago and the University of Bologna and has been teaching art history at Duquesne University's Italian campus since 2002. She is a Vatican analyst for NBC and has appeared on the Today Show, Nightline, and 60 Minutes, and her TED Talk on the Sistine Chapel has garnered over 1.8 million views. Hiring the right people is one of the most important decisions any leader makes, yet many organizations still rely on instinct, unstructured interviews, and job descriptions that don't clearly define what success looks like. The result? Costly hiring mistakes that affect productivity, culture, and long-term business performance. In today's episode, we'll explore a different approach — one that focuses on clarity, structure, and evidence-based decision-making. About the Guest Craig della Penna is the creator of the HireBest system and founder of Aesop Partners, LLC. For more than 25 years, he has helped leaders at Fortune 100 companies, private equity-backed firms, and privately held businesses make better hiring decisions through talent strategy and executive assessment. Craig shares his proven framework in his latest book, Cipher: A Proven Framework to Hire the Best People (2026), which introduces the concept of the Job Cipher — a practical tool for defining success before a search begins. Recognizing that most hiring failures stem from a lack of clarity before interviews even begin, Craig developed the HireBest methodology, a structured approach that has achieved a 90% success rate in identifying top talent for clients. His work focuses on replacing subjective hiring practices with data-driven processes that improve decision-making, reduce bias, and increase long-term success. | Leading Through Fear: The High Cost of Control | 28 Apr 2026 | 00:50:31
In this episode, we dive into fear-based leadership — a management style built on intimidation, pressure, and the constant threat of consequences. Over the past few years, this approach has been on the rise. Economic uncertainty, rapid technological change, and a culture of constant performance metrics have left many leaders leaning into fear as a way to maintain control. While it can create short-term compliance, the long-term cost is steep: it stifles innovation, erodes trust, and takes a serious toll on employee well-being. We also look at why leaders resort to fear, the damage it causes to teams and culture, and what healthier alternatives look like. Together, we uncover how to spot fear-driven tactics and, more importantly, how to replace them with strategies that inspire confidence, resilience, and collaboration. About the Guest Kate Lowry is the author of, Unbreakable: How to Thrive Under Fear-Based Leaders, a guide to navigating and succeeding under challenging leadership. She is a CEO coach, venture capitalist, and author based in Silicon Valley. | Revolutionizing Leadership in the Cloud Era | 02 Dec 2025 | 00:53:27
The adoption of cloud services has significantly impacted today's leadership as cloud computing has changed how organizations conduct business operations, communicate, and collaborate. The maturity of an organization to adopt cloud and transformational solutions commonly depends on the leadership style and the full support of C-level executives, directors, and senior leaders. Adopting cloud computing can accelerate IT modernization, and business leaders must seriously evaluate the technology that can help them accelerate the required transformation. But it also means that to accomplish this, leaders today must handle, communicate, and manage differently than they did in the past. This episode discusses effective leadership within the rapidly moving technology field. About the Guest Claire Milligan, CEO of the startup Aimably, the new approach to AWS (Amazon Web Services) cost management, guaranteed to delight any accountant. AWS billing creates a blind spot that hurts businesses. AWS costs are typically the second largest line item for a technology business. AWS's standard invoices and developer tools make it extremely difficult to validate billing or keep spending under control. Aimably's software and services transform the AWS billing experience. Whether she's helping businesses transform their cloud spending or hitting the slopes as a ski patroller, Claire Milligan thrives on distilling complex problems down to their core issues — and turning these pragmatic findings into groundbreaking solutions. Through a journey spanning marketing, UX, and leadership roles at tech companies like Tallie and SpringAhead, she's meticulously constructed a diverse skill set built upon hands-on expertise and an unrelenting thirst for knowledge.
