We installed the Ohlin's FKS 226 Harley NIX 22 Front Cartridge Kiton my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. After riding my Harley with the newly installed Ohlin's front suspension on a 10-day, 4,000-mile road trip, and on many different road surfaces, I can highly recommend this suspension and decided to carry Ohlin's right in the Law Abiding Biker Store. In our tutorial video, we show you exactly how to install Ohlin's front suspension and how to adjust things so you have the proper preload and proper rebound dampening. We also installed the Ohlins 13" S36 Blackline Rear Shocks on my 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special. However, I ride and corner my Harley hard and am constantly dragging floorboards and supports. By installing the 13" Ohlin's rear shocks, I raised my Street Glide Special 1" which gives me more lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. The special models come with 12" shocks. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com Is Harley Closing its Doors?So, what is going on with Harley-Davidson as we move toward 2023? Is Harley Permanently Closing Its Headquarters Building in Milwaukee and why? Why are so many independently owned dealerships closing their doors or selling? Oh, and what's up with the possibility of a 975 version of the very popular Pan America Adventure bike? Is the long-talked-about Harley Bronx Streetfighter actually going to become a reality? And what's all this mean for the future of the Motor Company? Well, these are all loaded questions and I have a metric ton to throw at you, so let's dive in and see if we can make sense of it all for you! 2023 could prove to be a very exciting year for Harley-Davidson. So, let's start with the question of whether Harley-Davidson is permanently closing the doors to its Milwaukee, Wisconsin Headquarters building, which has served as such since 1973. The answer is "yes", well kind of. You see, Harley-Davidson is letting employees work from home on what may become a permanent basis. Harley's Milwaukee headquarters closed in 2020 due to the global pandemic, but Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz says the complex is going to be repurposed rather than reopened for workers. Neither Harley-Davidson nor the CEO has specified exactly what its 500,000-square-foot complex in Milwaukee will become. Still, the company insists the location will remain an important location for Harley's presence in the U.S. Further, Harley is fully embracing remote work and the flexibility and openness it brings. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STORESo, what's my opinion on all this? I personally think that varies greatly from industry to industry. I do recognize that there are some benefits to remote working, such as fewer distractions, workers may feel less stressed and stay more focused, and of course, remote workers love having flexibility in their schedules if feasible. With that said, I think Harley needs to tread lightly here because a huge part of the motorcycle lifestyle is riding and hanging out with other like-minded bikers. You certainly want your employees to embrace, live, and understand the motorcycle culture. That's hard to do remotely. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Next, let's talk about independently owned dealerships. It's true that some smaller independently owned Harley dealerships are closing their doors. In fact, the Denver Post reported this month that "Rocky Mountain Harley-Davidson (RMH-D), the oldest family-owned Harley motorcycle dealership in Colorado, is shutting down at the end of the month". The longtime business, founded in 1979 by owner Kathy Yevoli, who still serves as RMH-D president, has fallen victim to a corporate downsizing strategy, said Marina Yevoli, Kathy's daughter and director of marketing at the Littleton motorcycle dealership. "We are closing, not by our choice," Marina Yevoli said. "To be politically correct, they (Harley-Davidson) are condensing the market and independent dealers do not fit that mold. My thoughts are that Harley should be careful if they are in fact snuffing out independent dealerships and going more corporate. I think that move could potentially hurt them in the long run. You see, many long-time Harley customers, and newer customers for that matter, have built personal relationships with their independent dealerships and personnel and get treated in a personal way. An independent owner takes great pride in their dealership for the most part. It's more of a family-friendly one-on-one experience that many Harley owners are accustomed to and it very well may be one of the reasons they stick with Harley-Davidson. Don't forget that many of these independent dealerships have become staples of their communities. But, this seems to be the way many industries are going these days like Comoto Holdings, Inc., which owns Revzilla, J&P Cycles, Cycle Gear, and Rever. I guess only time will tell. This is not surprising to me, since Harley's first stab at the adventure market was the Pan America 1250, which quickly claimed the title of the #1 selling Adventure Motorcycle in North America, beating out other long-standing adventure motorcycles like the BMW 1250 GS Adventure. Earlier this year, signs of the new Pan America 975 were mistakenly mentioned on Harley-Davidson's website for an accessory locking fuel cap. The fuel cap was listed as being compatible with the current Pan America 1250 models as well as two unannounced models; the RA975 and RA975S, which I assume to be new Pan America models which will be powered by the 975cc version of the Revolution Max engine, like the one in the new Nightster. Now, the fact that the smaller Pan America was mentioned on the Harley website, would suggest that they likely planned to include the mid-sized Adventure bike this year but decided against launching them, perhaps due to supply chain constraints. So, my prediction is that the new Pan America 975 will come out at some point in 2023. I will note that Harley-Davidson is expected to announce the bulk of its 2023 models in January. Finally, let's talk about the infamous Harley Bronx Streetfighter that never came to be. Remember, this bike was supposed to come out in 2021 with the Revolution Max 975T motor but never did. Now, Harley never confirmed they scrapped the Bronx Steegfighter, but they did come out with the Nightster in 2022, which has the Revolution Max 975T engine. Many thought that was the replacement for the Bronx, that it was dead, and would never make it past a concept bike. However, new information has leaked that Harley reapplied for the trademarks for the Bronx Street Fighter name. So, that begs the question, how much longer will Harley dangle that carrot in front of us? Will we finally see a Bronx Steetfighter actually release and hit the streets in 2023? New Patrons:

Harley-Davidson (HD) entered into an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on June 23, 2022. This relates to all Harley warranties and if you're a Harley owner this is absolutely must-know information. Introduction:As part of this agreement, HD agreed to the findings that it had violated the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act when it forced warranty-holders to buy only Harley-Davidson branded parts or lose warranty coverage. Let's start by discussing what the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is. The Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act basically prohibits manufacturers from requiring consumers to use only original equipment parts or services to keep their warranty. This means you can service your own motorcycle and use aftermarket parts without automatically voiding your warranty. Now, we've preached this for years, which is why we produce our very popular premium Harley tutorial videos such as Harley oil change and service videos, handlebar installs, stereo installs, and much more! And, we have about 600 hundred free videos on the Law Abiding Biker YouTube channel. Start saving money now by wrenching on your own Harley using our very detailed tutorial videos. However, you are required to keep receipts for your oil and filter, etc, and keep track of whom performed the service, which would be you. A Deeper Dive:Let's dive into the meat and potatoes of the FTC settlement agreement. And at the end of this article, I'll break this down into good' ol' biker language and what it actually means for you as a Harley owner. The FTC filed an administrative complaint against HD for illegally restricting customers' right to repair their Harley's. The FTC's complaint said warranties on HD bikes included terms that made buyers believe their warranty would be voided if they used independent dealers for parts or repairs. A Deeper Dive:Let's dive into the meat and potatoes of the FTC settlement agreement. And at the end of this article, I'll break this down into good' ol' biker language and what it actually means for you as a Harley owner. First, I want to let you know that we did a very popular and highly viewed video about Harley Davidson Warranties and issues some time ago and you'll definitely want to watch that video after this one to be well educated and understand the issues in their entirety. So, I mentioned earlier in this article that your warranty cannot be voided if you have your bike serviced at a third-party shop or simply decide to do your own oil changes and services in your own garage, which I highly recommend. You can save yourself a ton of money and have the pure satisfaction of wrenching on your own bike. The next question is; Can a motorcycle manufacturer void your warranty for installing non-OEM aftermarket parts on your motorcycle, such as headers, mufflers, intakes, handlebars, stereos, cams, and even EFI tuner? They can deny any warranty claim if they determine the aftermarket parts you added to your bike caused the damage. Let's start with mufflers as a general example. Let's say you put aftermarket mufflers on your Harley and the transmission goes bad suddenly. I think it'd be fair to say that mufflers did not cause a transmission failure, so you "should" be covered under a warranty. Or, you do an aftermarket stereo install and your engine then has a major failure. I think it'd be fair to say that a stereo install has nothing to do with the engine failure and thus you should be covered under a warranty. Now, let's say you do a cam upgrade and afterward the engine has a catastrophic failure to a push rod. I think it'd be fair to say that the new cam upgrade caused the engine failure and you'd not be covered under a warranty. The real question then is, does simply doing a non-motor upgrade like stereo install or handlebars for example, automatically void your powertrain warranty or overall warranty? No, those upgrades do not affect the powertrain, thus you should not have your warranty voided. The next question is, does simply doing a powertrain upgrade such as a cam upgrade for example, automatically void your powertrain warranty? No, not by itself, however, you must remap your EFI after an upgrade like that and if you were to use a non-EPA compliant tuner, your powertrain warranty will be automatically voided by Harley-Davidson. You see, when Harley dealerships plug your bike into Digital Technician II for diagnostics it auto-detects whether the bike has a tuner, and then it will be determined whether it is EPA compliant. Digital Technician II automatically sends the detected tuner information to the Harley-Davidson mothership so to speak and your power train warranty is voided immediately if it's not compliant. Now, in regards to Harley-Davidson and other motorcycle and auto manufacturers for that matter, the EFI tuner issue is because of pressure and fines from the EPA, who is making them void warranties if non-compliant tuners are utilized. In 2017, Harley entered a consent decree, filed by the United States EPA, that required them to cease the sale of all non-compliant EFI tuners. And, void warranties on those Harley's with non-compliant EFI tuners. And yes, Harley is voiding warranties for non-compliant EFI tuners as are other motorcycle companies and auto manufacturers. What Is An EPA-Compliant EFI Tuner?Well, that's not so clear, but we did some research and digging for you. Currently, we can find no credible list of "EPA compliant tuners". I will mention that of course, Harley-Davidson has a Screamin' Eagle EPA-compliant EFI tuner that will not void your warranty. But, it doesn't do much and we'll talk about that in a moment. So, this begs the overall question, is something like the Vance & Hines FuelPak EFI tuner EPA compliant, and will it void your Harley warranty? Well, we spoke directly to two Vance & Hines technicians today, and here's what we learned. The FuelPak 3 (FP3) is not EPA compliant technically, because it allows you to tune non-EPA compliant engine upgrades such as cams and big bore kits. The FP3 will void your motorcycle warranty. But, Vance & Hines says the FP4 is EPA compliant and will not void your warranty. However, it will only allow you to tune up to a stage one upgrade, which means pipes and intake. It will not allow tuning for cams and big bore kits now or in the future. Act Quickly If You Want A FuelPak 3:We do sell the Vance and Hines FP3 and FP4 in the Law Abiding Biker store. With that said, you need to act very quickly if you want to get your hands on a Vance & Hines Fuelpak 3 for your 2014-2020 Harley before they're gone forever. Many of the large stores are already out of them. For all of you who own 2021 to current Harley's, you can only use the FP4 as it has a different style plug.
If you have a 2014-2020 Harley and have ever thought about doing a future cam upgrade or big bore kit you'll need the FP3. In fact, we just did a cam upgrade on a Milwaukee eight and used the FP3 to tune it, and afterward, the bike ran like a raped ape. The FP3 is a very capable tuner with many options and we've used them for years. We will be releasing a full detailed cam install tutorial video on our YouTube Channel, so make sure you're subscribed so you are notified as we release videos. Also, the FP3 allows you to tune your bike right from your smartphone, unlike some other tuners. It is super intuitive and we already have a tutorial video on that. Maybe you just want to do a simple stage 1 upgrade with pipes and intake right now, well you can with the FP3 while also future-proofing yourself in case you want to do more. And of course, if you want an FP4 we have those too in the store and they are plentiful. Also, if you're a California resident, you'll have to get the FP4 regardless. Customers in California can't buy the FP3 and dealers can't sell it to California residents. Now for argument's sake & for a better understanding of how all this works, I'll dive in a bit further. A Further Breakdown:Let's say you do an aftermarket muffler upgrade and have not installed an EFI tuner and your engine then has a failure. And, you take it to a Harley dealership, who decides to say that the mufflers caused it. Well, although the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act is behind you it may or may not help you. You see, in a situation like this, the burden of proof is completely on you as the consumer. You'd have to decide whether the cost is worth it. Because you're the one that will have to find and hire an Attorney that may be willing to file a lawsuit. Now, over the past years, we have had communications with Harley owners and particular dealerships conducting business like this in similar circumstances. I would say our local dealership and the vast majority were not doing this and following the rules. With that said, the FTC agreement included contact info to file a complaint with HD Headquarters and the FTC. You may find a resolution at this first step. What Are Aftermarket Parts Manufacturers & Third-Party Shops Saying:A statement from Vance and Hines CEO Mike Kennedy in an article said, "This action taken by the FTC is a huge win for motorcycle riders. While we still need to see how this plays out, we anticipate that riders will have more choices in how they repair and update their motorcycles during the warranty period, which is clearly a big deal for companies in the motorcycle aftermarket, too. I hope that the 'it will void your warranty threat for someone who just wants a better sounding or smoother running Harley is a thing of the past." What Am I Going To Do?I will simply buy the motorcycle without any extended warranty and ride it hard for a bit on the manufacturer's warranty until I'm comfortable that the bike is going to hold up. Then, I'll immediately put any damn parts and tuners I want on it and ride it like I stole it. You decide what you're going to do and let me know in the comments, Harley-Davidson reps do read them and so do we. Now, if your leak is like mine it can be extremely difficult to determine which of the two gaskets was the culprit. I figured I would just replace them both while the bike was torn down. Official Website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com I recently test rode and reviewed the new Harley-Davidson 2022 Street Glide ST. Harley shipped me the bike and let me have it for 30 days so I was able to really evaluate it. This bike was a dream to ride and overall performed very well. This bike comes with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 ci air/oil cooled V-Twin engine with a heavy breather, making around 106 horsepower and 126 ft. lbs. of torque. That was apparent when I got into the power band at around 3500 rpm. The bike has plenty of get up and go and you can easily pass and get around slower traffic. This bike was inspired by the King of the Baggers series and you should really check it out if you haven't. This ST sits an inch higher than a Harley Street Glide Special model, which makes it the same height as models such as the Ultra Limited. This provides for more lean angle on the ST model and I found that to be the case during my testing. SUPPORT US AND SHOP IN THE OFFICIAL LAW ABIDING BIKER STOREHarley was able to shave 13 lbs off the Street Glide ST in comparison to a Street Glide Special model, making the ST weigh in at around 814 lbs in operating condition. Some of the weight savings are because the Harley Street Glide ST only comes with a solo seat and has no passenger pegs but you can add both after purchase. The saddlebags are also squared off and don't contour the mufflers like on the special models. The Street Glide ST has a 19-inch front tire and 18-inch rear tire, 49 mm dual bending valve front forks, premium standard height (13 inch) hand-adjustable rear suspension, dual front and single disc rear brakes, 6 speed transmission, Boom Box GTS Infotainment System, and 6 gallon fuel tank. The ST gets 41 mpg in premium operating conditions. It was designed for weight, power, and performance and for it to be faster, more nimble, and have more lean angle. And, for the first time you get that CVO power train in a non-CVO bike The ST is really a blank canvas for performance parts and you could easily make the Milwaukee Eight 117 ci engine a 131 ci engine with a stage four kit. There are plenty of OEM Harley performance parts for the Street Glide ST to include Ohlins suspension. And as always, you'll get an honest review on this website and on our YouTube Channel. Yes, Harley loaned me the bike but in no way was I paid for this review and Harley has never told me what or what I cannot say or I simply would not do these reviews. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: Pros:I really liked the stock stereo system with the Boom Box GTS Infotainment System with two-way speakers and it was pretty loud and clear, even when traveling at freeway speeds with a full-face helmet. During the time we had the ST we did a Boss Audio Stereo/Amp Kit install on another bike and tested it against the stock Harley system. Of course, the Boss Audio system was much louder. I like that the Harley Street Glide ST sits an inch higher for that extra lean angle and I really liked the look of the differing front fender. I am 5'-08" tall and the bike fit me fine and I was flat footed when stopped with plenty of bend in my knees. The stock seat was pretty comfortable and has a nice curve up in the back, keeping you in the saddle when rolling the throttle and giving some lower back support. But, if I was long distance touring I'd replace the seat. The stock suspension performed very well, even when on a gravel road with potholes. Cons:The Boom Box Infotainment System does not come with a WHIM (Wireless Headset Interface Module) out of the factory. The WHIM allows you to have Bluetooth headset connectivity with the Boom Box while using a Harley branded Sena wireless headset. You need this to activate both Apple Car Play and Android Auto. You can also use a Harley branded 7 pin wired headset instead. If you want any wireless headset functionality though, you'll have to add a WHIM during or after your purchase. I think that all Harley's with the Boom Box should come stock with the WHIM like the CVO models do. The Harley Street Glide ST comes with a LED headlight and taillight but the front and rear signals are still halogens. Lurch is 6'-4" tall and also test rode this bike. He reported that his shin was up against the heavy breather and that he'd have to change that out immediately with a lower profile air intake. He'd also move the floorboards forward, install an extended brake pedal, and install taller handlebars. Final Thoughts:Really, the question is whether you spend the extra $2,500 on the Harley Street Glide ST or save it by buying a Street Glide Special. I'd say that if you are really looking to have a hot rod of a bike, add many performance parts, and really push it in the corners then the ST should be your choice. If you're looking to do more relaxed riding, tour long distances, and maybe have a passenger, the Street Glide Special is all set up for that upon purchase with a passenger seat and pegs and is $2,500 less. But, it does have the smaller Milwaukee-Eight 114 ci engine with a few less horsepower and overall torque. It's still a great engine and has plenty of power for most. With that said, make no mistake about it, the Harley Street Glide ST would be awesome too for long distance touring if you set it up with a passenger seat and pegs. Overall, I can say that you will not be disappointed if you buy the Harley Street Glide ST and it was a dream to ride. Sponsor-Ciro 3D

States like California, Massachusetts, and most recently Washington; have enacted laws that restrict magazine capacity to 10 rounds. So what if you have a magazine that has a 15-round capacity while traveling? Depending on the state you are traveling to, that answer may be different. In California, you can't carry a firearm unless you have a valid California permit, and permits are only issued to California residents. California also says you can't import magazines that have a capacity of over 10 rounds. To check out all 50 State gun laws, go HERE. Be aware of these restrictive states and plan ahead to ensure you're still Law Abiding. Earlier in the day, we replaced Fuente's fuel pump on his 2016 Harley-Davidson Road Glide Special. Fuente began hearing a whining noise after turning on his ignition when then the fuel pump was priming the system. This is a tell-tell sign that your fuel pump is beginning to have issues. The kit that Fuente ordered also includes a new fuel filter. Harley recommends the fuel filter be replaced every 100,000 miles. We can tell you from experience that you'll want to change it sooner than that. Fuente's filter had almost 50,000 miles and it was quite dirty. A bit of patience is required to remove the gas tank top plate with filter, fuel float, and fuel pump from the tanks. Understand, Harley-Davidson paid for the flights, meals, and lodging. However, no contract was mentioned or signed and I was never told what I could or could not say, so I will give you an unbiased real-world biker review as always. I'm going to give you a real-world biker review of the new 2022 Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST. Oh, and in case you're new to Law Abidin Biker, I'm a full-time Police Motorcycle Officer and Instructor. Additionally, I have multiple bikes and put on many miles off duty on both street and off-road adventure rides. My 2016 has the Screamin' Eagle Twin Cam 110 ci engine and it is a ripper and so fun to ride. I looked forward to how the new 2022 Low Rider ST would handle and feel like with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 cubic inch engine. I learned many things about the Low Rider ST from the Harley-Davidson Reps, so I think we should talk about where the Low Rider ST spawned from. You see, in recent years Harley has been paying much attention to the ever-changing demographics of Harley riders. Harley spotted a trend and was seeing riders, especially in Southern California, tweaking the Low Rider S by Increasing engine displacement, changing suspension, adding bags, and even fairings, just to name a few. Armed with that information Harley-Davidson set out to create a base model bike that was all of the aforementioned things, but yet came that way out of the box so to speak. Thus, the Low Rider ST was born and came into existence with special care taken as to how it looked and rode. The overall design was inspired by the iconic 80's FXRT. CHECK OUT OUR HUNDREDS OF FREE HELPFUL VIDEOS ON OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL AND SUBSCRIBE!I reviewed the Low Rider ST from the perspective of the average everyday biker out there and I'll tell you what you actually need to know about the bike, which has caused much stir and grabbed a lot of attention within the motorcycle community There are so many pre-orders that so this bike hardly ever makes it to the dealership floors. The 2022 Low Rider ST is super fast and nimble. I really enjoyed dragging the footpegs through the twisties. I liked the fairing and the vents it had in it. The fairing created a wind tunnel around me and minimized buffeting. The Low Rider ST is capable of touring, but you can easily remove the bags to give it a stripped-down look while riding around town. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: There were a few negatives I found, and admittedly they are a bit nit-picky. First, the right saddlebag is shorter than the left to accommodate the dual exhaust. In my opinion, it aesthetically detracts from the look of the bike from the rear. This issue would not keep me from buying this bike though. Second, as a touring bike, I think the Low Rider ST should come from the factory with some sort of crash bars. There are crash bars available from Harley-Davidson. Sponsor-Ciro 3D

It was a very quick 4-day trip, 2 of those days being travel days. Understand, Harley-Davidson paid for the flights, meals, and lodging. However, no contract was mentioned or signed and I was never told what I could or could not say, so I will give you an unbiased real-world biker review as always. Now, I had many questions about this new Nightster and anticipated how it might feel and handle when riding it. There was only one way to find out and it started when I arrived at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort where I'd be staying for the next few days, and I got checked into my room. I quickly made my way to dinner where Harley had set up the "instrument of expression" launch event. I really had time to reflect on Harley-Davidson's rich history with their bikes of the past, and in many ways, they've carried much of that history over and put it into their present-day motorcycles. As Willie G. Davidson once said, "Everything we do is the notion that form follows function-but both report to emotion" and I wanted to see if that would be the case with the Nightster. But, what do these new water-cooled Revolutions Max engines in the Pan America, Sporster S, and now the 2022 Nightster with the 975T version really mean? Is Harley fazing out the traditional big V-Twin air-cooled engines? During my time in and around Santa Barbara, I'd get these questions answered and a whole bunch more. The horsepower may be intimidating to new riders, but that can be mitigated by the different ride modes. The bike can be tamed down by using Rain Mode, then a rider could progress to Road Mode, and eventually Sport Mode. The Nightster was designed with customization in mind. I think Harley did a great job designing it. NEW FREE VIDEO RELEASED: There were a few negatives I found, and admittedly they are a bit nit-picky. First, the front-mounted radiator is not visually appealing to me personally. I know it's required to get the performance and horsepower out of the engine. I guess I'm old-school and I'll just have to learn to get used to the radiator. Secondly, the plastic trim on top of the tank (airbox) looks cheap and is a bit flimsy. I would have liked to see something made of metal in its place. And lastly, the control switch housings were also made of plastic. I would prefer metal ones like on my Street Glide Special. This trip would take us out of Washington State and into Oregon, California, and Nevada. We stayed over in cities such as Newport, Oregon, Eureka, California, San Fransisco, California, Lake Tahoe, California, and Diamond Lake, Oregon. You can find the Harley-Davidson Ride Plan HERE. We took a day trip from San Fransisco to Santa Cruz, California which turned out to be a great ride and a lot of fun. You can find the Harley-Davidson Ride Plan HERE. There will be a motorcycle documentary film released later this year on this entire trip and experience!During our West Coast trip, we met up with our beloved Patron Members outside of Placerville, California. We usually meet up with our Patrons for a day ride. This year, our Patrons traveled with us for part of our trip. They joined us from Placerville to Lake Tahoe where we enjoyed some food and drink at a local park. Our Patron Members support us financially, so we can continue to help as many bikes as we can worldwide. Of course, our Patron Members get benefits and exclusive access such as meetups like this. There was an awesome day ride prepared for the members. We all met up in the morning and we all went on a beautiful day ride together. We had plenty of time to visit and get to know each other on a more personal level. We ended the day at a private location where the Patron Members enjoyed a catered dinner by Law Abiding Biker Media!. We ate, drank, and visited and it was a great time. Tyler O'Hara won on the S&S Indian Challenger.

Eric Buckhouse, Engineering Technical Lead, has worked for Harley-Davidson for 25 years in various roles in engineering and Parts & Accessories, with the majority of time in full vehicle product development and in Custom Vehicle Operations. He graduated from Marquette University with Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served as Project Engineering Lead for more than 35 different motorcycles, including Cycle World Best Cruiser awarded motorcycles – 2005 CVO Fat Boy and 2016 Low Rider S. Most of our audience know that the faces/voices of Law Abiding Biker (LAB) are either full-time Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) or retired LEOs. Lurch has been working for LAB part-time for several years while working full-time as a LEO. He retired recently and came to work for LAB full-time as the company's Chief Operations Officer (COO). Lurch worked for the Washington State Patrol (WSP) for just over 25 years. He was unable, in past episodes, to name the agency he worked for and what he did at the agency because of policy. He was assigned to Mansion Security providing protection to the Governor of the State of Washington. Chris set out to visit all 51 National Parks in the lower 48 states in one motorcycle trip and he completed it! He normally rides a BMW adventure bike. However, Harley reached out to him and offered a Pan America for this trip and he couldn't say no. Chris is no stranger to very long motorcycle road trips and has traveled around the world in the past. He saw this new record attempt as a challenge. We were fortunate to have this Indian Challenger for a few weeks and filmed a complete 12″ handlebar and heated grips install on it. I also ride my Harley Street Glide Special with the 103 ci engine off-duty many thousands of miles a year along with other bikes. I am also a police motorcycle instructor and I hope all of this qualifies me to review and compare the Indian to the Harley-Davidson. I used the base model of the Indian Challenger for this review. Now, this base model is identical to the Indian Challenger "Limited" and the Dark Horse, the black limited model, except for they cost $5,000 more. But, those more premium models are also coming with a few extra things and those are:
Smart Lean Technology is Indian's version of Harley's RDRS or Reflex Defensive Rider System. Basically, both these systems adjust traction control and ABS systems based on lean angle making riding safer. Now, that's a very dumbed-down version of what these systems do. If you want to learn all about RDRS and whether you should spend the money on it, check my RDRS video out. The Indian is a badass bike and I think you'd be totally satisfied if you purchased it. The same thing goes for the Harley Road Glide. Much of it will come down to rider preference. If money were not an issue, I'd own one of each. We certainly all agree that it's a specialty motorcycle and will only appeal to a small segment of the market. Maybe this collection is a way to revive the rich history of Harley-Davidson and through social media posts, it may catch the eyes of those on the fence about buying a Harley? It may just be a way to get more eyes on their motorcycles. Last, we talk about Harley-Davidson reverting back to the cable clutch system on their 2021 touring models. From 2014 to 2020, Harley had a much better hydraulic clutch system on the touring line-up. This has really stunned many loyal Harley owners as many feel it's a backward step in technology. It feels cheap for Harley to do this and then not reduce the price of the motorcycle. After all, this is supposed to be a premium touring motorcycle? And now with a cable clutch? Really Harley? The Harley hydraulic clutch system was a much better system and caused less hand fatigue. Plus, it was self-adjusting and always had a consistent pull and friction zone, unlike cable clutches. If you actually like some adjustment on the clutch lever itself on hydraulic systems, then there are many aftermarket adjusting levers to choose from. The stock handlebars on these bikes are not comfortable for many riders and many just don't like the look of them. In this episode, we break down what you need to know if you're considering this handlebar install project on your Indian motorcycle. We wanted to film the entire install and make another awesome tutorial video for the biker community to save money and not have to take their Indian motorcycle to a dealership to do this. It is worth noting that Indian seems to leave enough wires, brake line, and throttle cable to install up to 14" aftermarket bars without having to extend those. If you go any taller than 14" then you'll need to extend those for sure. When released, our video will even show you that process. We learned so many things during this project that we share with you in this episode. Your Indian motorcycle may throw some diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) when doing this project and that's normal. We'll show you how to clear those codes within the Indian Ride Command infotainment system. In this episode, Oscar and I generally discuss the different options for aftermarket front suspension for Harley-Davidson motorcycles along with why you would want to do this. In Oscar's case, it was because his suspension was becoming very soft, which was affecting his front braking and making for a rough ride, especially when he had his passenger on the back. His front end was really dipping when applying the front brakes. He was hoping that the trike would better serve his needs due to a few underlying medical issues. Well, there's only one way to find out, and that's to get a trike and ride the heck out of it. In episode 210 of the podcast, we had a great time discussing trikes and had another Haley Tri-glide rider present, Big Daddy Kane's dad. Take a listen! Big Daddy rode the heck out of his Harley trike over the past year. Most recently, he rode it 3200 miles during a 9-day trip to Sturgis 2020, the 80th Anniversary. He was also riding with his passenger during the trip and riding in our larger group of about 12 motorcycles. There is a lot more pressure on your arms and wrists as you are not leaning but turning the bars through corners. You use your arms a lot more and he was experiencing arm fatigue and wrist pain due to a medical issue. He also found it difficult at times to keep up with the group, both while passing cars and during corners. Both are expected on a trike as you can't take corners as quickly and the heavier trike will not get up and go as fast while passing as a two-wheel Harley will. It was a very quick 4-day trip, 2 of those days being travel days. Understand, Harley-Davidson paid for the flights, meals, and lodging. However, no contract was mentioned or signed and I was never told what I could or could not say, so I will give you an unbiased real-world biker review as always. It's worth noting that I regularly ride street and adventure, so I was excited to test this new motorcycle. Additionally, many of us suffer from varying degrees of lower back pain, which can get worse during these long motorcycle road trips.
