Bianca and Dan have been absent for a few weeks and Chartreuse has something to say about that. Which leads us to this episode's topic. Anxiety. Episode 29 - Autism and body dysmorphia25 Jul 202301:10:54

Send us a text

This episode proves to be a difficult challenge for Dan as he opens up about his body dysmorphia.  Dan, always the resilient chap, drops his guard and invites listeners to share his difficult journey from shame to revelation and hopefully acceptance. Please note this episode deals with eating disorders and may be triggering for some.

The episode also has its lighter moments, such as Bianca's shock at discovering her happiness bubble has been popped. She reflects on how her comfort and solace has been compromised with reality. Listeners will gain insight into how she copes with daily struggles and embraces the joy that autism brings to her life. Also has Bianca set up some kind of meth lab? Thats what the Chemist thought!

Also enjoy our regular segments such as Text Fuck Ups, Recommendation and Autistic Moments. And PLEASE for the love of Cod help Dan with his Facebook messages issues. Please send feedback.

I installed an anti-virus on my computer. Now it has Autism. That's right, this episode is all about comedy. Bianca and Dan talk about the kind of humour they love and dispel the rumour that all Autistic people are humourless and do not get a joke.
The comedy continues with segments like Neurodivergent Digest, Recommendations, Autistic Moments and a Compliment From Dan.

Episode 18 - A powerful interview with an Autistic friend26 Mar 202301:23:44

Send us a text

This episode Dan interviews his friend and old workmate Shirl. It is an incredibly moving, candid and funny discussion that so many people will be able to associate with.  Shirl was diagnosed Autistic four years ago, around the same time as Dan, and shows another side to the diagnosis fallout. This was not an easy discussion for Shirl however the bigger priority was to share just how difficult it has been for us later diagnosed people, particularly in childhood and young adulthood.

We cannot thank Shirl enough for agreeing to talk. Shirl will not be listening to the episode so we would love listeners to send messages via us on latetothepartyasd@gmail.com

Send us a text

This episode contains more than your daily prescription of memes. Dan considers releasing an album of segment music given he seems to be writing a new one each week. This time it is a segment called Social Stories.
On this episode we talk about what we hate to wear, and Bianca offers up a description of a particular body part that once heard you will never forget.
We uncover who keeps their inboxes ordered and Dan tries his best to write from a womans perspective.  We consider Prince Harry and his apparent diagnosis offer up another Autistic Moment.  And finally Bianca commissions Dan to write a musical about Dogs and you get the first taste of what is surely to become a major musical triumph.

Episode 16 - We totally tapped that05 Mar 202301:02:02

Send us a text

It is Episode 16. Thank you so much for your continued support. This episode we talk about our likes and dislikes and look for commonalities. Dan is given some news about his vocal stylings and Bianca tells us more about her home life than we probably asked for.
We have a killer Autistic Moment and yet another new segment called Neurodivergent Digest, not to forget our Recommendations. Speaking of you can find Kristy Forbes on Facebook here.
Let it be known that the drumbeats in the podcast are Dan's first public performance on the drums.
For those not in the know the Harold audio relates to the TV show Neighbours.

Here is the excerpt mentioned by Dan -
Carl Sagans - The demon haunted world - 1995

“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”

― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

Like many other late diagnosed adults, we have to put up with verbal (and nonverbal) accusations of not actually being autistic, and we are up to here with it. Bianca and Dan offer their experiences around why masking is often confused with faking by some people. If you are not sure how to respond to these claims this is the episode for you.

Bianca responds to Dan's (supposedly) sexist and misogynistic criticism of her wardrobe. In unrelated news Bianca wins Miss Autistic Universe.

We also discuss a superb article from Late To The Party's best friend Jessica Horner, who you may remember from episode 7

Welcome to the second season of the podcast. Thanks for all the lovely feedback. Don't forget to keep passing the word and if you could add a review in iTunes or wherever you get the podcast it actually makes a huge difference.

This episode we take a relaxed approach to ease you back in. Bianca and Dan discuss the holidays, tongue twisters, interviews, musicals. All while knocking back Pimms and pretending we don't need to pee badly.
And of course, we have some regular segments like Autistic Moments and a Compliment from Dan.

The theatre group mentioned for the Heathers musical is Out of the wings theatre.
Also here is a good Pimms recipe.

Blue Christmas - Blue Note

Our Christmas song - Late To The Party This Christmas
I'm late to the party this Christmas
It's enough just to get out the door
I've forgotten my pills
All the presents are no frills
And I've given the same ones before

I'm late to the party this Christmas
And I wont find any comfort in food
Cause the people are too loud
Im awkward in a crowd
And my lack of eye contact looks rude

I'm late to the party this Christmas
And my socks wont stop itching my feet
All this small talk is hell
I just can't stand the smells
And I'm allergic to dried fruit and wheat

So I'm late to the party this Christmas
Cause were both still recording a show
And the news is I fear
It's the last for the year
But were back next year raring to go

Episode 9 - Reigniting our spark20 Nov 202200:54:44

Send us a text

On this episode we go back to our roots with a classic tête-à-tête loosely based around well-known autistic people and those we think could be. We delve back to some old tv shows and movies, none of which seem to be shared by Bianca and Dan. We also prepare for a speech that we both will be making at a party and Dan really needs to provide context a lot more often.

We have listener feedback and another installment of Autistic Moments.  Dan also considered setting up a survey to determine who is the biggest 'hoot' on the podcast but he has a frail ego and may be crushed by the results.

You can see Chloe Haydens acceptance speech here.
The tv show Candy Candy can be found here.
Dans favourite review of Phantom of the Opera is this - "As I was sitting in the auditorium, I kept looking around hoping there was a chandelier above me getting ready to plummet to the ground."
