There they meet Isaac, a secrets trader who cracks the world wide open: Long John McGilla’s hush-hush riversaur hunt, the ominous Dark Shroom Tower, and a crucial lead toward the Lost Willows, where even the trees take prisoners—and where Harn may be hiding. With the sandbox expanding and the stakes rising, the party sets its sights on Sinkhole and beyond, all while the Tricky Toe tunnels grind underfoot.

Land of Eem Actual Play | Into the Volcano – Magma Monsters, Pirate Ambushes & the Truth About Weldar

Terror returns in this high-stakes episode of the Land of Eem Actual Play Podcast as Riley and Galen brave the deadly shores of Terror Island once more—this time with the reluctant Weldar in tow, a former villain now humbled in a tight Hawaiian shirt.

From their first steps back into the jungle, danger is relentless. A run-in with Yaljack pirates sends our heroes fleeing through uncharted terrain. Coastal waters prove no safer, as bubble geese—strange jellyfish-like creatures—create deadly vortexes that nearly pull Riley to her doom.

What happens when you stumble upon a secret pirate hideout and then accidentally sell that information to the very pirates you discovered? Pure chaos—and that's exactly what unfolds in this hilarious adventure through the treacherous waters of Hornswoggle Port.

Fresh from discovering the Daggerheart Pirates' hidden lighthouse base, Riley and Galen sail to Hornswoggle, a notorious pirate haven where they hope to cash in on their knowledge. Their adventure quickly devolves into a masterclass in how not to negotiate with pirates as they bumble through pirate customs (no, "ta-ta" is definitely not how pirates greet each other) and reveal their valuable information to Captain Verma Woodenfoot before securing any payment—only to discover she's actually the leader of the Daggerheart Pirates herself!

Rather than walking the plank for their mistake, our heroes find themselves unexpectedly recruited into the Wooden Foots crew, forcing them to restructure their own ship's hierarchy. Noggin, their eccentric ship owner, gets "promoted" to Commodore while Galen assumes the role of captain, and loyal crew members are let go to make room for hardened pirates skeptical of these newly minted captains.

The episode brilliantly showcases the political dynamics of pirate society, with its Pirate Court comprised of three major factions all united against the chaos-causing Daggerhearts. Between examining their growing collection of magical items (including the hilariously named Carrot of Pain) and discovering two cans of gold paint that inspire their ship's new name—"The Golden Noggin"—our adventurers prepare for what promises to be an epic naval battle.

A chance rescue mission to the derelict Lookout Island lighthouse takes a dramatic turn when Captain Noggins and crew stumble upon a secret lair of the feared Dagger Heart pirates. But discovery comes with danger when First Mate Galen narrowly survives a deadly pendulum trap, leaving him barely clinging to consciousness.

Before this revelation, tensions aboard ship boil over as crewmate Thrang attempts mutiny, coveting the mysterious Wraith Keeper artifact that grants communication with the dead. The confrontation ends with Thrang marooned on a tiny island, swearing revenge against the crew who abandoned him.

Using ingenious problem-solving and the help of Gary the elastic snail, Riley and Galen navigate treacherous trapped corridors to uncover a hidden underground cove housing a fully operational pirate ship. This discovery completely alters their plans—knowledge of this secret base could be sold to either the corporate Muckland Trading Company or the outlaw Pirate Court for substantial rewards.

A luxury yacht isn't exactly what comes to mind when planning a dangerous expedition to a place called "Terror Island," but that's precisely the vessel Rylee and Galen find themselves commanding. After finally reaching Muckland Harbor, they discover their old friend Noggin has transformed their galleon into a pleasure craft complete with shuffleboard decks, noodle dispensers, and two men named Lou who handle waste disposal duties.

The mission seems simple enough: find the legendary treasure of Ulfrex the Cruel hidden somewhere on Terror Island. If successful, they might disrupt the dangerous alliance between the Felmog and Sarapathi forces currently wreaking havoc across Scalawag Strand. Of course, they'll need a crew crazy enough to sail into such dangers.

What follows is a hilariously chaotic recruitment drive through Muckland Harbor's various districts. From the privateer registry to "the dregs," our heroes assemble a crew that includes a one-legged pirate seeking revenge on a sea monster, a gigantic crab rack wearing an equally enormous custom-made hat, a blind sailor who claims to be "great at tying knots," and a suspicious Felmog corsair whose loyalties remain questionable at best.

With ancient coins spent on high-quality cannons (that are only "somewhat likely" to backfire), the newly-formed crew prepares to set sail. As Riley and Galen struggle with leadership dynamics and the miserly Galen reluctantly accepts the role of first mate, one can't help but wonder if this ragtag group has any chance of success against the numerous threats lurking in the Scalawag Strand.
