Around our birthdays, we like to reflect on the year gone by. What were the big moments, good and bad? What have we learned? Where do we go from here? This year, Kristen got divorced, Maddie is no longer friends with her best friend of 10 years, and we both had to lean into new mental health practices and get clear about our business goals and approach. We're getting candid in this episode, and we hope you'll share your reflections and vision for the future with us! Kris & Mads Host a LIVE Author Event in London! | Thomas R. Weaver09 oct. 202601:08:54

Welcome back, friends! 📚✨

We have a VERY special video for you today! Maddie and I had the incredible opportunity to host a live author interview with Thomas R. Weaver in London to celebrate Infinite Wisdom, the second and final book in his series that began with Artificial Wisdom!

The event took place at the Penguin Random House headquarters in London, and we were joined by fellow book influencer Michael Kist for an amazing panel discussion with Thomas. We talked about the series, his writing, and the highly anticipated conclusion to this story.

But one of the BEST parts of the day was getting to meet so many members of our virtual book club in person! 🥹 Seeing so many of you show up to hear the interview, celebrate this series, and get your special edition copies signed made the whole experience even more meaningful. We are so grateful for this little bookish community we've built together!

Whether you've read Artificial Wisdom, are excited to pick up Infinite Wisdom, or simply love hearing authors talk about their books and creative process, we hope you enjoy getting a behind-the-scenes look at this special London book event.

A huge thank you to Thomas R. Weaver, Michael Kist, Penguin Random House, and everyone from our virtual book club who came out to join us. You made this such a memorable experience!

In today’s episode, we’re revisiting some of the most popular fantasy, romance, literary fiction, and classic books we’ve ever reviewed… because honestly? We were WRONG about some of these ratings. From beloved BookTok fantasy series and viral romance books to classic literature staples and modern literary fiction, we’re sharing the books we should’ve rated higher — and the books we may have seriously overrated.

We discuss books like Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, Normal People by Sally Rooney, Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb, From Blood & Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Powerless by Lauren Roberts, The Folk of the Air by Holly Black, A Study in Drowning by Ava Reid, Christina Lauren romances, and more. If you love book podcasts, reading vlogs, fantasy books, romance books, literary fiction, classics, BookTube, or BookTok discussions, stick around! Our channel is packed with controversial reader opinions, book recommendations, and honest reviews.

Writing Women's Stories That History Forgot - With Author Elodie Harper16 avr. 202600:50:51

What does it take to write morally complex characters, handle dark subject matter with care, and bring ancient women's lives vividly to the page? We sat down with historical fiction author Elodie Harper — writer of The Wolf Den trilogy and her latest, Boudicca's Daughter — to talk about exactly that. No spoilers, no required reading. Just a genuinely fascinating conversation about craft, journalism, research, and why the "grey" characters are always the most interesting ones. Perfect for readers, writers, history lovers, and anyone who's ever wondered how authors make hard stories feel human. You can find Elodie online:https://elodieharper.substack.com/

Romance Book Recs!12 févr. 202601:05:45

It's time to talk about spicy books...and more mild ones too. We're finally broaching the romance genre. What do we like? What do we hate? Which ones actually do it for us? And why!In this episode of the Kris and Mads Podcast, we’re talking about the love stories that go far beyond meet-cutes and tropes. Yes, we joke about sex (because obviously), but at the heart of this episode are powerful, unconventional romance book recommendations that explore enduring love, self-discovery, sacrifice, healing, and second chances. These are love stories that linger. Stories about choosing each other again and again. About intimacy, vulnerability, and connection — emotional and physical. Whether you love romance, literary fiction, fantasy with romantic elements, or books that blur genres, these recommendations are for readers who want big feelings and meaningful love stories. If you’re looking for romance books with depth, unconventional love stories, or book recommendations about healing, longing, and transformative relationships, this episode is for you.Books Mentioned by Category:SELF DISCOVERYAlone With You in the Ether by Olivia Blake Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid TRANSCENDENT LOVEThe Invisible Life of Addie Laure By V.E. January Reading Wrapup: STARTING BIG SCI-FI & FANTASY SERIES04 févr. 202601:08:10

We started reading some chunky sci-fi and fantasy series in January, and had such a good time! We're embracing the "quality over quantity" mantra this year, and that means fewer books, but hopefully bangers only! Off to an amazing start with these series: A Song of Ice and Fire, The Expanse, Stormlight Archive, Malazan, and Hierarchy! And we had time for a couple stand-alones too.BOOKS MENTIONEDThe Midnight Feast By Lucy FoleyLeviathan Wakes, Caliban’s War, and Abaddon’s Gate(Books 1-3 of the Expanse Series)By James S. A. Interviewing LORETTA ROTHSCHILD in London!! | Debut Author of Bestselling Novel: Finding Grace30 nov. 202501:06:22

Finding Grace is one of our favorite stand-alone novels of the year, as well as one of our favorite love stories we've read in such a long time! We HAD to interview the debut author, Loretta Rothschild, all about it. Plus, after a little social media lurking, we became obsessed with Loretta's style, personality, and original approach to marketing the novel! If we could describe her in a word, it would be ICONIC. So, we couldn't wait to learn all about her hyperfixations, obsessions, her writing process, the adventure of getting published and picked up by her dream agent, and her spoiler-free insights on writing the book itself.Loretta is such a kindred spirit. Pierce Brown Interview - So Do We End The Podcast Now?15 oct. 202501:22:13

THIS INTERVIEW IS SPOILER FREE!!!! Not to be dramatic, but we did start this podcast one year ago, in order to interview Pierce Brown on it someday. That day is today! The Red Rising special editions have been released, and to celebrate we had Pierce on the show to share his lore—everything from skinny jeans trauma to Freddy the snapping turtle—and talk to us about the deeper themes and inspiration in the Red Rising Saga. We almost peed our pants laughing, and also learned crazy amounts about classical philosophy and history. Pierce may be one of the most engaging and entertaining conversationalists alive. For an episode one year in the making, he did not disappoint!
