| Summer Yarns: Suzanne Paul | 12 Jan 2025 | 00:54:33 | |
Today we re-visit my yarn with a NATIONAL TREASURE.
Sure, Suzanne Paul was born in England but she is our official infomercial queen. But it’s not just thousands of luminous spheres that make us all love her - her dogged determination and work ethic through every part of her career is so inspirational. Gosh, talk about someone who never ever ever gives up! She's remarkable!

| Summer Yarns: Justine Smith | 05 Jan 2025 | 00:50:42 | |
Today we re-visit my yarn with the first comedian I ever saw live and rest assured she’s been a favourite ever since!
The award-winning Justine Smith took her first gig as a dare - and to sound cliché the rest is history. But, as you'll hear, the rest took time, patience and bloody hard work. She won the Billy T Award in 2003, and has been the winner of the Award for Best Female Performer from the NZ Comedy Guild an incredible four times.

| Kyle Bell - the unofficial godfather of Rhythm and Vines | 03 Nov 2024 | 01:01:36 | |
Today’s guest is a man who most of the time likes to be behind the scenes.
But, Kyle Bell is responsible for bringing to life some of the country’s best performing and most loved gigs and festivals.
The professional party planner is an award winning marketer and entrepreneur, he’s also the unofficial godfather of Rhythm and Vines, and once had high ambitions to be a rockstar himself.
A fascinating look into the live music industry - some great war stories in here!

| PJ Harding | 06 Mar 2023 | 00:48:04 | |
Today’s guest is a wonderful broadcaster, a fine young woman I’ve admired for a very long time.
PJ Harding is a former radio host who built out an amazing career here and in Australia.
She moved from the bright lights of Melbourne to the mighty Wairarapa, and lives somewhat more of a quiet life with her fiancé Brendan aka BJ, baby Charlie, Josephine the cat, and Fig the dog.
She talks motherhood, the good and bad of social media, and what she's planning on doing next. PJ is a fabulous person with an infectious smile and tells a bloody great yarn!

Be Your Best Self is her FIFTH book - and it's out at all good bookstores now.
This was a great session (I mean podcast haha).

| Charlotte Bellis | 19 Feb 2023 | 00:58:36 | |
Today’s guest is journalist Charlotte Bellis.
Charlotte began her career in her hometown Christchurch, but it’s taken her all over the world, from Europe to the United States and more recently, Afghanistan, where she has sat down and interviewed the Taliban.
Last year she became a mum, and during her pregnancy she fought for herself and the many Kiwis locked out of New Zealand due to the MIQ system during the pandemic. She was instrumental in highlighting how deeply flawed it was, which came at the cost of some horrific online abuse. But, the system changed and she was part of that.
A really fascinating conversation with a pretty remarkable woman.

Today’s guest is one of my favourite Black Ferns Sevens players!

Basically, Shiray Kaka is an absolute vibe and you will love her like I do!

| Lee Mvtthews | 05 Feb 2023 | 00:49:14 | |
Today’s guests are Tom Lee and Graham Matthews - two lads who have been the drum and bass duo Lee Mvtthews for the past ten years. They've become so popular with Kiwis, they’re headlining festivals, winning multiple awards, and absolutely owning the Summer gig circuit - recently playing in front of 20,000 people at Rhythm and Vines in Gisborne. I was one of those 20,000 frothers so this is a full geek out session - and it's so cool to hear how these guys operate.
Also, the reason there's a V in their name is quite the yarn!

| Liam Malone | 29 Jan 2023 | 00:44:54 | |
Today’s guest is the super talented, super fast, incredibly witty Liam Malone.
This interview is a million miles an hour, much like the pace in which Liam can run! Liam tore through our TV screens at pace when he won two gold Medals and a silver at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, and fast became one of our favourite sportspeople. He’s super switched on in the tech and innovation space, and can call himself a comedian after performing at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh.
He's had a fascinating life, and tells many a great yarn!

| Rikki Swannell | 22 Jan 2023 | 00:51:37 | |
Welcome back to the first episode of 2023!
We kick things off with a woman I admire hugely. Rikki Swannell is a trailblazer in the world of sports journalism, and flies the flag for women's sport in so fiercely and loudly, I’m basically fist pumping right now at how awesome she is and for what she has achieved in her career.
Rikki and I first met when we worked in radio together back in 2010 - and I’ve watched her shine ever since.

| Paddy Gower | 18 Dec 2022 | 01:11:36 | |
Today’s guest is one of the country’s most high profile journalists. Paddy Gower is fiercely passionate about telling stories and has been that way for over 20 years. His dogged determination to get to the bottom of issues here in Aotearoa is something to behold, and he certainly hasn't been afraid to piss anyone off along the way. But what Paddy also has which makes him so good is empathy, and what makes him unique is he isn’t afraid to completely immerse himself in the story - which this year resulted in him staging his own intervention, and getting off the booze - in front of the nation.

| Daniel Jones | 11 Dec 2022 | 01:00:32 | |
Today’s guest is an ultra marathon runner like me (haha I can say that now)! But Daniel Jones just won the Kepler Challenge - a 60 kilometre mountain run in Fiordland at the weekend for the FIFTH year in a row. And, while it was the same race I did, he was SIX hours faster. Now, I’m not beating myself up about that at all, I’m saying it to highlight what an absolute weapon Daniel is. This, after winning the Queenstown Marathon two weeks prior and the Auckland Marathon a few weeks before that, for the third year in a row. He’s out of control, so let’s hear how he moves so damn quick.

| Ian Jones - The Kamo Kid | 27 Oct 2024 | 01:03:44 | |
Ian Jones is one of the country's greatest All Blacks - and this is such a wholesome and inspiring chat about how "The Kamo Kid" came to be such a brilliant rugby player - but also such a great role model and so active in everything he's done since.
Kamo is someone who grabs life by the proverbial but also someone who gives a lot back to others.
You'll get a fascinating insight into why the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final still hurts just as much as it did back then.
You'll also find out what inspires and drives Kamo - and there's plenty for us all to take home!

Shaneel Lal’s relentless passion and dogged determination was monumental in conversion therapy being banned in Aotearoa. They have recently been in the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list for social impact.
And Shaneel leaves no stone unturned when it comes to fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

| Casie Bowry | 20 Mar 2022 | 00:42:43 | |
Today’s guest is a very very dear friend of mine, Casie Bowry. We grew up doing surf life saving together, our Mums grew up doing surf life saving together - we've been friends a very long time.
Casie was a top water polo player representing New Zealand for many years, and was fast becoming a very well respected police officer. In 2018, life was ticking along nicely.
But in March of that same year Casie fell very ill, and was diagnosed with an extremely rare autoimmune disease, NMNDA Encephalitis. Essentially, her body was attacking her brain.
Casie was in hospital for over two years - including one whole year in ICU.
I, at times, did not think she would survive. And even when I thought she just might, I didn't think she would ever get her life back. She was so sick.
But Casie was so tough and so strong, and through determination and grit she made a extraordinary recovery. Her story is astonishing.

Best believe they play two truths and a lie, and see who wins the prize for reading a segment of the other person's book without laughing. There might be a teaser in there for book two, too.
But also, they have a bloody good kōrero about Paddy losing his job, getting a new job, and why he thinks the future of the media industry will be ok.

Matt Chisholm and I had the pleasure of being TV reporters on the new look “Seven Sharp” back when it started in 2013 and it would be the same year it, and all of those involved copped an absolute flogging…ah the memories!
A lot has changed for Matt since then and what’s actually been quite amazing to watch from the sidelines is how openly he has shared his mental health struggles in such a public space and in doing so, helped a great deal of people along the way.
WARNING: this episode includes discussions around suicide.
