| #343: The Tower of Babel---from the archives | 04 Sep 2024 | 00:10:48 | |
Genesis 11:1-8 At a time when the whole world spoke one language, the people decided to build a towering city to reach the heavens. But their pride and desire to be like God led them astray. God intervened by confusing their language, causing them to scatter across the earth. Through this story, we learn about the dangers of pride and the importance of relying on God. **We hear from kids all over the world, sharing the languages they speak, showing how the Bible is alive and active for people everywhere! | # 342 :Guess What Happens in 7 Days?--The Miracle of Lazarus Part 6: | 28 Aug 2024 | 00:11:22
In this final episode of the Lazarus series, we reflect on the events leading up to Jesus’ resurrection. As Passover approaches, Jesus visits Bethany, where He is honored at a dinner hosted by Lazarus and his sisters. Mary anoints Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume, demonstrating her deep reverence, while Judas objects, revealing his ulterior motives. The episode highlights the growing crowds drawn to see Jesus and Lazarus, prompting the chief priests to plot against them. We then hear Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where He is celebrated with palm branches as the crowd shouts "Hosanna!"—a moment that fulfills the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9. We explore the significance of these events, especially their connection to Palm Sunday, and how they were all part of God’s divine plan. The episode concludes with a reflection on the resurrection of Jesus, emphasizing His promise of eternal life to all who believe in Him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- To enjoy the library of bonus content (coloring pages, sheets, memory verse, etc) for the episodes go here and click bonus content. | #268A: Giving Thanks: Thanksgiving special | 23 Nov 2022 | 00:15:02
2 Chronicles 20: 1-6, 14-17, 21-23 & Psalm 118:1 Today we hear that King Jehoshaphat and his people faced a war which they didn't want to be a part of. They still gave thanks to God during the tough time, even before the war was won. We also briefly discuss the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday and learn that the pilgrims and those in our Bible story had a lot of sad and hard things they could’ve focused on, yet they chose to look for some good things to thank God for. This doesn’t mean we have to put on a happy face or ignore sad feelings; it means we still trust that God is good, He loves us, and we can be thankful for that even in sad times. We will hear a special ending as our wonderful listeners chime in on what they are thankful for. Thanks for listening! | #267A: How do you get to school? | 16 Nov 2022 | 00:15:48
Job 34:19 & Isaiah 64:8 Today will be different than our normal Bible stories because we are doing a special episode to explore the large world our God has made, learn about the people he created, and hear how we are the same and different. Sometimes, we can get caught up in seeing just our little world and forget that not everyone lives the way we do. We explore the world as we hear about a group of children in the Philippines and how they get to school. Everyone gets to see just how big the world is, but how connected we are in Jesus. The link to see the kids crossing in the canoe and learn more about them is here: https://explorer.compassion.com/how-do-you-get-to-school/ The website has cool activities, pictures, and articles your family can enjoy too.

| #266A: Fireflies & Fish; Good light or Bad light? | 09 Nov 2022 | 00:09:40 | |
Psalm 119:105-112 & John 8:12 Today's story is shorter than usual b/c we need time to discuss it. In this episode, the Bible shows us Jesus is the best light, the real light. The kids will consider if there are bad lights. This is where our fireflies and fish discussion comes in. The magnificent light Jesus offers us helps guide us… “Your word is a lamp to my feet, The kids will recognize that some things try to be a brighter light than Jesus & pull our attention to it. Sometimes, these "lights" want to guide us and act like they are the best light but they aren’t. Only Jesus is the 1 true light, who wants what’s really best for us.

| #263A: Guess who I just Met?! | 12 Oct 2022 | 00:10:10 | |
John 1:19-23 & 35-42 In today's episode, we will hear priests asking John the Baptist who he is. They have journeyed all the way to find him in order to understand who he really was. We discuss that there are others in the Bible with the same name so it's important to know which John we are reading about. We also meet Andrew and hear that he was excited to follow Jesus. Andrew couldn't wait to tell his brother, Simon, all about the Messiah. The kids will be reminded that we too get to tell others about Jesus just like Andrew did. | #262A: Do I Have to? | 05 Oct 2022 | 00:10:18
Colossians 3:12-17 & Ephesians 5:20 Today we read Paul's letter to the Colossians. He writes, " And whatever you do, whether in word or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." The kids will learn that this really means in whatever we do. We don't give thanks or serve God only when we are having fun or getting a gift. To help them understand, we use real life examples: Instead of complaining that they they have to clean up their toys, they can remember they get to clean them up because they are thankful God gave them toys to clean up. I hope today's episode reminds your family of God's truth and encourages conversations. Parents, please join us in our goal of sponsoring 100 children through Compassion International. Matthew 15:29-39 We continue our compassion series. If you’ve missed the previous ones, please go back and listen as they build upon themselves. Today, we are learning about compassion from the one who did it best and of course, we are talking about Jesus. The scriptures will show how He had compassion on the hungry crowd. We've heard something similar to this before when Jesus fed the 5,000. The kids are encouraged to look up Mark 6 & 8 and Matthew 14 &15 where both feedings are recorded. Parents, help them identify similarities and differences between them.

Psalm 139 & Acts 17:25-26 Today, we jump right in learning that you can thank God for making you. He has a plan for you, a purpose, and was not suddenly surprised, scrambling to figure out where you would live and when you’d be born. God made YOU on purpose & the Bible doesn't say you are just an okay, kind of good work of God ... it says that you are a wonderful work of God! We discuss how we should be cautious to compare ourselves with others and how we can delight in our differences and similarities.

This is not our typical episode. I realized I have not updated how my 5yr old son has been doing. I know so many of you have helped join me in prayer and for that, I am beyond grateful. I wanted to say thank you & give a short update. Though there have been hard times, God has provided so much for us; whether that's resources, some good medical news, or how He has grown us. | #248A: Money Part 2: Life is Not Made up of how many Toys you Have | 08 Jun 2022 | 00:13:52
Matthew 6:19-21, 24 & Luke 12:13-15 In today's story we hear Jesus teach "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” We discuss what greed actually is and share an example from my childhood that the kids can relate to. We must be on our guard as Jesus says, because often the world we live in tells us the opposite. It says your life is cool, amazing, and valuable IF you buy this thing or that thing. It is not wrong to want things.. we simply must be cautious that we don't become greedy with our wants. God wants us to trust that He will give us all we really need. He gives us reasons to trust him AND explains why his ways are best which will be discussed on the next episode. Today's episode is brought to you by Abide. Mark 1:41-45 & 2:1-12 Today, we hear a paralyzed man get lowered from the roof in hopes to get in front of Jesus and be healed. I wonder if the paralyzed man was disappointed when the 1st thing Jesus says to him is "Young man, your sins are forgiven.” What? They had gone through all this trouble to have him walk again…what was this about sins? As we continue the story, Jesus shows us that the biggest issue is our sin but the good news is that He can forgive them. We are reminded of the love He has for us as evidenced by the sacrifice He made to forgive us. Today's episode is sponsored by Fabric. Daniel had done everything right yet it seemed like everything was going wrong. This story reminds us that even though we do the right things, the outcome can still feel wrong. But be encouraged b/c we hear that God never leaves Daniel's side. The apply section discusses that God loves us and is with us on good days and hard days too. We discuss the difference b/n humility and pride and are reminded that God was so patient w/ the king. God offers us this same, loving patience when we ask for his forgiveness. God doesn’t roll his eyes when we ask for forgiveness yet again but instead, he’s so patient, so loving, that he HE wants to hear from us.....bring us back to Him when we wander off the path b/c He loves us so much! | #240A: Daniel part 4: Who is the REAL King? | 06 Apr 2022 | 00:13:29
Daniel 4:1-27 If you have missed the previous Daniel episodes, I'd recommend you go back and listen as the stories build upon themselves. Today, we hear king Nebuchadnezzar have another dream. Daniel explains that this dream is from God and is a warning for the king. This dream is to help teach him a lesson: to stop doing wicked things and be kind & admit that God is the ultimate ruler of the kingdom and not him. We discuss how this applies to a child's life. The kids will observe areas that we try to set up our own little kingdoms and act as king or queen & we end with being comforted by the reality that our all knowing, all loving, never changing God is the ultimate ruler. Thanks for tuning in to the Daniel series. I hope this always draws the kids closer to knowing Jesus. Subscribe for just $2.99 a month to get ALL episodes AD FREE! | Easter 6: Why did Jesus die? | 01 Apr 2022 | 00:11:20
COLOSSIANS 2:13-15 Recently, we celebrated Easter and since that time, parents have been sending in fantastic questions kids have had; many of them related to Easter. I am going to do my best to answer PART 2 of the more complex questions :Why Did Jesus Die? We use a story about two children who disobey the rules and play ball in the house. This ends with a window being broken and the understanding that someone must cover the cost of this mistake. The children realize they can not fix such an expensive mistake and must be forgiven and helped by their parents. Though the parents were not the ones that broke the window, out of love and their ability to have money, they are able to cover this cost. We use this example and connect the dots to the Bible that: 1. Our sin is very serious. 2. No human & no amount of money can fix our sins. Jesus is the only one who can save us. He never sinned. 3. Jesus cleaned up the mess we made and absorbed the cost himself when he died on the cross. 4. We all sin and can ask Jesus to forgive us. Resources for parents: The Reason for God by Tim Keller. This is an adult book and covers many difficult questions which you can study and then teach your child on their level. 5 Truths About the Death of Jesus This is an adult article from the Desiring God website. You will need to bring this down to a child's level but it is a good guide of what to begin covering with them. The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross Kids book that addresses sin and the cross. | Easter 5: What did Jesus Save us from? | 01 Apr 2022 | 00:10:01
Romans 3:23 -24 & John 3:16 Recently, we celebrated Easter and since that time, Parents have been sending in fantastic questions kids have had, many of them related to Easter. Today, we are doing a special episode as I do my best to answer one of the more complex questions : What did Jesus Save us from. I understand there are a variety of ages and backgrounds who are listening so I have tried to keep it age appropriate for most families. We learn about: 1. Adam & Eve sinning & how that affects us. 2. We all need Jesus and His grace. Grace is a gift, not earned. 3. Sin separates us from God. We are made right with God by being made free from sin through Jesus Christ. ***** We will not discuss Hell in this episode. Hell is biblical and should be discussed in your family when it's appropriate. I did not address this here as I want to respect families and the personal discussions that need to occur in the home for this. ****** I am including the link Desiring God here as a resource on how to discuss hell with your children. | #239A: Daniel part 3: There were 4 Walking in the Fire | 30 Mar 2022 | 00:17:07
Daniel 3 If you missed last weeks episode, I highly recommend you go back and listen as these will build upon themselves. In today's story we hear king Nebuchadnezzar build a golden statue and demand that everyone must bow down to it. What will the consequence be if they don't? We may not be asked to bow down to a statue but we must be careful because we too can make other things more important than God.... Just as king Nebuchadnezzar wanted that statue to be more important than God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's faith shines brightly in this story. It's easy for us to say "God I'll worship you because you gave me exactly what I wanted today." It's a different feeling when we can say “God I really hope this or that will happen BUT even if it doesn't , I will still love you and worship you." That’s what they did! Even in one of their most frightening experiences, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego had their Heavenly Father there with them. Just as He was there with them, He will be with you all of the days of your life. Thanks for tuning in to the Daniel series. I hope this always draws the kids closer to knowing Jesus. | #238A: Daniel part 2: God gets the Credit | 16 Mar 2022 | 00:14:31
Daniel 2:1-28,46-49 In order to respect each families ages & stages of life I have adapted some of this b/c of the content in Daniel and the time allotment for the episode. So PLEASE go back and read the scripture yourself including what is appropriate for your family. The King has some confusing dreams and the only one who can explain them is Daniel. Daniel knew this was made possible b/c of God not him, so he made sure God received the credit. The kids are reminded to observe the wonderful things God allows us to do and be grateful versus puffing ourselves up as if it's all b/c of us. Some may think our examples don't seem incredible. God gave Daniel the ability to do something amazing! But the truth is, ours are actually miraculous things! They just seem normal b/c they happen day after day. We get used to seeing the miracle God provides each new day. Thanks for tuning in to the Daniel series. I hope this always draws the kids closer to knowing Jesus. | #237A: Daniel part 1: But Everyone Else is doing it | 09 Mar 2022 | 00:12:12
Daniel 1 In order to respect each families ages & stages of life I have adapted some of this b/c of the content in Daniel and the time allotment for the episode. So PLEASE go back and read the scripture yourself including what is appropriate for your family. Today we hear Daniel asking permission not to indulge in the King's food b/c it would make him impure. Daniel did not want to disobey God even though it seemed like everyone else was. We apply that our world or culture sometimes wants us to do things that God says not to do. We may feel the pressure to do it b/c well, everyone else is. The kids see that Daniel knew what was right b/c he knew God's word and he chose to obey even if it seemed no one else was. The kids will hear examples of what this may look like in their own lives. Thanks for listening! I hope this always draws the kids closer to knowing Jesus. | #235A: Pride part 2: But I know Best...Pieces of a Puzzle | 16 Feb 2022 | 00:10:39
Proverbs 26:12, 1John 3:20, Psalm 139:16, Isaiah 40:28, & Luke 1:26-38 We will be reading these straight through so please go back to this reference if needed. This is part two in our pride series. If you missed last weeks episode, please go back and listen. Today we hear our Bible tell us that God knows everything, that he loves us, and that we can trust him. When we think we know better than God, then we are acting in pride. The Application section helps the kids connect the dots by using an example of a puzzle. We get glimpses of these tiny puzzle pieces in our lives and some pieces are confusing like Mary’s visit with the angel while other pieces are very exciting and happy! But God sees the whole picture, our whole life... things we can’t but he can b/c God already sees it put together forming a beautiful, purposeful picture. We must remember not to become prideful , when the pieces don’t make sense or maybe we don’t like them. We shouldn’t try to force pieces together that don’t fit.... then, comes pride: “But God, I know better, I want the picture to look like this, not that!” I hope you enjoy today's story! 2 Kings 4:1-7 In this episode, we explore the miraculous story of the Widow's Olive Oil from the book of 2 Kings. A widow, facing overwhelming debt and the threat of losing her sons, encounters the prophet Elisha, who guides her to trust in God's provision. With just a small jar of olive oil and a leap of faith, they witness a miraculous multiplication of oil that fills every jar gathered, providing for the widow's needs and beyond. Key Discussion Points:
4. Encouragement for young listeners to trust in God's provision and to recognize the miracles in their own lives, no matter how small. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
| #234A: Pride part 1: Pride Goes Before Destruction: Anything you can do, I can do better | 09 Feb 2022 | 00:17:35 | |
Proverbs 16:18-19, 11:2, 13:10,29:23 & James 4:6 We will be reading these straight through so please go back to this reference if needed. Last week, we learned about humility. Today we hear about its opposite… Pride. Pride can take many forms but today, we are going to hear a made up story to show how pride goes before destruction and is damaging to yourself and others.....how pride can make us care too much about what others think of us instead of what God thinks. We will hear the scriptures first and then move straight into the story. The Bible is where we go to to understand pride. We discuss the importance of always going back to the Bible because sometimes the world will teach the opposite. The world may clap for things that God tells us to steer clear from. | #233A: Humbly Trusting like a Child | 02 Feb 2022 | 00:10:11
Mark 10:13-16 & Matthew 18:1-4 Today, we hear what Jesus says about being humble. His followers try to keep the children from Jesus but instead, Jesus welcomes them with open arms. He teaches that " The greatest person in the kingdom of heaven is the one who makes himself humble like this child." This story will explain why children are used as an example of humility and we help the children connect the dots of applying this in their lives. We differentiate humility from speaking badly about yourself and hear what the Bible says about true humility. Thanks for listening! Subscribe for just $2.99 a month to get ALL episodes AD FREE!
