Milteer would first stop in Jacksonsville and pick up Willie Somersett at the Union bus station. From there they would proceed to Columbia, staying overnight and meeting the next day with four men, three of whom were identified members of the South Carolina Ku Klux Klan. The discussions that were had that weekend between Somersett and Milteer on their drive to Columbia and back,  and while they were meeting with the Klansman, solidify in Somersett's mind that Milteer was in the know about the JFK assassination.  Somersett was  confident that the conspiracy had  emanated from Miami, New Orleans and California based on comments that Milteer made to him.. What is miraculous regarding these statements by Milteer is that they were made over the weekend following the president's assassination and they were relayed by Somersett to the Miami Police Department Detective on the case just days later.  The interrogation and Q&A are preserved in transcription and are  extraordianry for their content, timing and then documentation within days of the assassination.  The broader  story of Milteer  brings together a greater element of societal underground. Episode 135 is another  Bonus Episode.    We cover the infamous story of the failed Attack on the Moncada Barracks.  This was the  first armed attack  led by Fidel Castro against the Batista government after the1952  coup by Batista.  The attack failed miserably with 25 people killed in the attack itself and an additional 54 of the revolutionaries summarily rounded up and murdered shortly afterward. Fidel Castro escaped into the mountains but was subsequently apprehended and brought to trial. Episode 114 is  the second and last  of a two episode miniseries covering  the attempted murder of General Edwin Walker in Dallas on April 10, 1963.  It was learned after the assassination of JFK,  that Lee Harvey Oswald was the likely perpetrator of the attempt on Walker's life, based on evidence found at Ruth Paine's home and testimony provided by Oswald's  wife after Oswald was murdered.  Walker was an ultra conservative and high profile former army general who was a member of the John Birch society and was expelled from the military for promulgating his ultra right wing views amongst service men.   The Warren commission identified this attempt on Walker's life by Oswald to be one of five stated factors that formed the possible motive for why Oswald killed the president, citing this as a prior act of violence where he demonstrated the willingness to attempt to murder a political figure using a  a rifle. Episode 221 is the fifth and final  episode of a mutli-part wander that  is the story of James Meredith and the Oxford Riots. Meredith was the first black man admitted to the University of Mississippi. Most  who are familiar with the history, recall  the tense moment of his admission, but few understand the extent of the violence which encompassed the event.  By the end of September 1962, Meredith's attempt at  registration had become  an ongoing affair. After his initial rejection , he filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming racial discrimination   and the suit prevailed  and it set the stage for a massive showdown as the beginning of the fall school semester came upon the university. The story had beginnings reminiscent of the Little Rock 7 entering Little Rock High School  and the intervention by the armed forces in that integration case. Mississippi Governor Ross Barnett would adopt the Doctrine of Interposition and assert that the state of Mississippi had the right to defy a federal court order and declare a federal law null and void.  He would  instruct all state employees and officers including law enforcement to resist the admittance of James Meredith to Ole Miss.  The situation would escalate and become the largest invocation of the Insurrection Act of 1806, Over 31,000 national guardsman,  federal marshals, other law enforcement officers and members of the military  would be activated for the event. The degree of domestic disturbance and  the related violence and extensive  involvement of the military would be taken to a new level.  A level not seen in prior civil rights disturbances,  and a level that would set the stage for intense retribution from the  radical right.
