S7E29: Why Didn’t They Believe Jesus? | John 8:12–2002 Dec 202500:33:32

In this episode of the Jesus Everyday Podcast, Pastor Ken Nienke and Andrew McPheron unpack one of Jesus’ most famous claims:
ā€œI am the light of the worldā€ (John 8:12).

Recorded the week of Thanksgiving (with Ethan out hunting), this conversation dives into the rich historical, theological, and biblical context behind Jesus’ words — spoken in one of the most symbolic locations in the entire Temple.

Jesus made this declaration inside the Treasury, also known as the Court of Women, the most public court in the Temple — and standing in front of four 75-foot candelabras that lit the sky like massive torches during the Feast of Booths.
This was not accidental. Jesus was declaring Himself to be:

  • the true pillar of fire in the wilderness

  • the presence of God dwelling among His people

  • the fulfillment of the Exodus story

When Jesus said ā€œI amā€¦ā€, the Pharisees would have immediately thought of Exodus 3:14 — God’s name revealed to Moses.
This was not metaphoric only.
It was a direct claim to deity.

Despite miracles, teaching, and fulfilled prophecy, the Pharisees responded with willful unbelief.
The conversation explores:

  • the difference between being uneducated and being willfully ignorant

  • how spiritual blindness works

  • why proximity to Jesus isn’t the same as salvation

  • why evidence alone cannot overcome a hardened heart

Even though leaders wanted to arrest Jesus, they couldn’t.
God’s timetable—not human plans—controlled every moment of Christ’s life.

The episode highlights massive Old Testament connections:

  • pillar of fire (Exodus 13)

  • God as light (Psalm 27:1)

  • prophecy of a coming light to the nations (Isaiah 9, 49)

  • Jesus as the true Light in John 1

  • believers now shining His light (Matthew 5)

Light in Scripture doesn’t just expose darkness — it invites healing, redemption, and direction.

Jesus isn’t offering advice. He’s offering Himself — the Light who guides, reveals, illuminates, and transforms.
To follow Him is to walk out of darkness and into life.

šŸŒ… What You’ll Learn in This Episode:

šŸ”„ 1. Why Jesus Said This HerešŸ“œ

2. The Divine Claim Hidden in Plain Sight

šŸ‘ļøā€šŸ—Øļø 3. Why the Religious Leaders Still Refused to Believe

ā³ 4. ā€œHis Hour Had Not Yet Comeā€ — God’s Sovereignty on Display

✨ 5. How This Passage Fits the Whole Bible

ā¤ļø The Big Theme: Jesus isn’t offering advice. He’s offering Himself — the Light who guides, reveals, illuminates, and transforms.
To follow Him is to walk out of darkness and into life.

S7E28: The Woman Caught in Adultery | Did ThisStory Really Happen? | John 7:53–8:1125 Nov 202500:58:18

In this episode of the Jesus Everyday Podcast, Ethan Callison, Andrew McPheron, Josh Horne, and FCC Elder Jake Preston tackle one of the most talked-about — and most misunderstood —passages in the New Testament: the woman caught in adultery (John 7:53–8:11).

Most modern Bibles place this section in brackets, with a note that it does not appear in the earliest manuscripts of John. So the team begins by asking:

Why is this story bracketed? Is it Scripture? Did Jesus really do this?
And if it’s not original to John… why does the church still read it?

This becomes a rich conversation on textual criticism, the manuscript tradition, oral history, the trustworthiness of Scripture, the witness of the early church, and how Jesus’ character shines through the story whether or not John originally penned it.

šŸ’¬ In this episode, theteam discusses:

šŸ“œ 1. Why this passage isbracketed in your Bible

šŸ“š 2. What textual criticism actually is (and isn’t)

🧾 3. Why the early churchbelieved this story really happened

🪨 4. The Trap, the Shame, and the Wisdom of Jesus

ā¤ļø 5. What this passage revealsabout Jesus

šŸ™ 6. How this confronts our self-righteousness

S7E19: Jesus in the Storm | John 6:16-2123 Sep 202500:46:09

In this episode of the Jesus Everyday Podcast, Andrew McPheron, Ethan Callison, Ken Nienke, and Robbie Willard unpack one of the most powerful moments in Scripture—Jesus walking on water (John 6:16–21).

The disciples find themselves rowing three to four miles into a sudden, violent storm. Tired, frightened, and far from shore, they encounter Jesus walking toward them on the waves. His wordsā€”ā€œIt is I; do not be afraidā€ā€”reveal not just His power, but His presence in the middle of the storm.

šŸŽ™ļø In this conversation:

  • Why Jesus sometimes sends us into storms

  • The difference between self-inflicted storms and storms God uses to reveal His glory

  • Why Peter began to sink—and what it teaches us about faith and fear

  • How suffering, storms, and trials can deepen love and trust in God

  • The tension of belief: why the disciples still doubted, even after seeing miracles

  • What this passage reveals about the character of God’s sovereignty and compassion

šŸ“– Text: John 6:16–21 (with connections to Matthew 14 and Mark 6)
šŸŽ™ļø Hosts: Andrew McPheron, Ethan Callison, Ken Nienke, and Robbie
šŸ’” Theme: Jesus doesn’t always stop the storm—but He never leaves us alone in it. His presence brings peace and assurance, even when the waves rage.

S7E18: More Than a Miracle | John 6:1-1516 Sep 202500:48:03

In this episode of the Jesus Everyday Podcast, Andrew and Ethan dive into one of the most well-known miracles in Scripture—Jesus feeding the 5,000—but show why this moment is so much more than a free lunch.

Through rich Old Testament connections (think Moses, manna, Passover, and Elisha) and careful attention to Jesus’ response to the crowd, the team unpacks the real message of the miracle: Jesus is the true Bread of Life, and He came not to set up a political kingdom, but to satisfy our deepest spiritual hunger.

šŸŽ™ļø In this episode:

  • Why Jesus withdrew when they tried to make Him king

  • How John 6 echoes the Exodus story—including Passover, the mountain, and manna

  • Why 12 leftover baskets matter (hint: it’s about the 12 tribes)

  • The danger of wanting Jesus for His gifts—but not His Lordship

  • The difference between belief and submission

  • How this miracle ministers not just to the crowds—but to the disciples, too

šŸ“– Text: John 6:1–15šŸŽ™ļø Hosts: Ethan Callison, Andrew McPheronšŸ’” Theme: Jesus doesn’t just give bread—He is the bread. The miracle points to a greater truth: Jesus alone satisfies, not just for a moment, but for eternity.

S7E17: You Search the Scriptures… But Miss Me | John 5:30–4702 Sep 202500:52:25

In this episode of the Jesus Everyday Podcast, Andrew, Ethan, and Josh dive deep into John 5:30–47, where Jesus wraps up His defense to the religious leaders—one that reads like a courtroom scene. The claims are bold: Jesus is equal to the Father, has authority to judge, and receives witnesses from John the Baptist, His miracles, the Father, and the Scriptures themselves.

And yet… the leaders refuse to believe. Why?

šŸŽ™ļø This week’s episode explores:

  • How Jesus responds to confrontation with boldness and humility

  • The difference between studying the Bible and meeting the Author

  • Why spiritual pride blinds people—even religious experts—from truth

  • The danger of seeking glory from people instead of from God

  • What it means that Scripture without Jesus is like a map with no destination (Spurgeon)

  • The importance of authority and submission—even in Christian leadership

šŸ“– Passage: John 5:30–47
šŸŽ™ļø Hosts: Andrew McPheron, Ethan Callison, Josh Cobia
šŸ’” Big Idea: You can know the Scriptures and still miss the Savior. Jesus is not just the fulfillment of Scripture—He’s the point of it all.
