JaM Sessions - Season 3 Episode 10 - Peter Snow of The Soviet Influence16 Sep 202200:36:22

From their website found at https://thesovietinfluence.com/
What do you get when you mix two ounces of Joe Strummer-like political anger topped off with the guitar tones of Johnny Marr? The socialist alt-rock cocktail of your dreams.

The Soviet Influence: a socialist alt-rock trio that appeal to nostalgic listeners while refusing to become stale, combining 60s-era protest themes with the post punk, new wave and modern styles of the everchanging indie rock genre.

Name-checked by Alan Cross, Obscure Sound and Divide and Conquer, the band has three full-length albums under their belt, the latest released in 2021 titled Socialism: An Introduction.

With styles that evoke the likes of Radiohead, Matthew Good and The Talking Heads, The Soviet Influence effortlessly combines progressive political messaging with neo-vintage sounds, labeling the band as a stand-out amongst their competition- and an act to keep your eye on.

KAROL BROWN

Born to a lobster fishing family on the beaches of the Northumberland Strait, Karol Brown provides a melodic, lyric-driven, dive into her mind when she performs her original songs.

Channeling inspiration from artists like Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel, and Taylor Swift. Karol music fills the room like the smell of a warm casserole, with the sounds of her lived experiences creating the crusty topping (everyone's favourite part).

Having released her first full album in 2018 (Made My Own), Karol is now studying engineering at Dalhousie University, however that hasn't slowed down her songwriting. Karol managed to make some time to get into the studio and released her first EP, entitled Dawn, this spring. The collection of songs contains three tracks that are reflective of acceptance, growth, and springtime. Dawn is available for digital purchase and streaming on all platforms.

As his Announcer Profile states: "East coast born, but settling down in the paradise that is the Great Lakes life of Central Ontario, I have several alter-egos in the professional wrestling world, but my all-time favorite nickname is “Dad”.

Ben and I chat about his humble beginnings, how those lead him to larger markets and also  gives us the skinny on "Who's Vinny?"
Unlike any of the other episodes, we talk about a lot more than just music but end the show with a song request from Ben with a special shout out to one of our previous guests!

JaM Sessions - Season 3 Episode 1 - Karen Myatt14 Jan 202200:42:01

Welcome to Season 3 Jammerz!
Before I get into the show notes, I'd like to take a moment to talk with you about what you should expect in season 3.
Over the holiday break, there have been some changes in the production team and a re-focusing of priorities.
Due to these changes, the show is going to be a little different this season. Same, but different.

JaM Sessions at it's core is about East Coast Musicians and the music they make. As I'm sure you're all very aware; I, Jeph am also one of those musicians and am in a band of my own. I am going to be putting more energy into that project this year so the podcast, will have to take a bit of a backseat.
FRET NOT MY DEAR JAMMERZ! This doesn't mean it's going away or suffering "Podfade" as it's known as in the biz, but instead of weekly episodes, you'll be looking at perhaps 1 a month, hopefully more if I have the chance to stack a few interviews up and hopefully we'll be back in full swing soon enough. But just know that I'm still here, still rockin' (even a little harder these days) and still Jammin'!!
So at the end of this episode when I say "...see you next week." This is no longer the truth, but you WILL see me again soon :)
Thanks for your understanding and continued support! Please stay tuned to the socials to know what's coming and when!
-Jeph

And now, without Further ado... The Show notes:

As Karen's own website FEMOIR.CA outlines:
"After training at the Randolph Academy in Toronto and graduating from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City, Myatt performed across North and South America.

In 2016, she produced and premiered “Ladies of Song” to sold-out audiences at Neptune Theatre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Both 2017’s “Songs of the Silver Screen” and 2018’s “Blues Deluxe” were equally successful, earning rave reviews.

Other highlights include headlining the Halifax Jazz Festival and performing with Symphony Nova Scotia.

Her first full-length album – Enchanté (2014) – was recorded in her hometown of Halifax, and features Holly Arsenault (piano), David Langstroth (double bass) and Brock Caldwell (drums).

Her latest effort – Femoir – was recorded at The Sonic Temple Recording Studio in Halifax and was engineered by Darren van Niekerk. The album was mixed and mastered by Christian St. Germain at Studio 360 in Montreal."

Brothers Darcy and Andrew Walsh sat down with Art Ross & Aaron Green of Pillow Fite @ NSMW 2021
(original interview date: Nov 6, 2021).

NSMW Bio:
Pillow Fite is a folk-pop band from Halifax, formed by Art Ross (they/them) and Aaron Green (he/him) over texting voice memos back and forth in 2020. Influenced by Phoebe Bridgers and Snail Mail, Pillow Fite uses confessional, matter-of-fact lyrics over intricate arrangements and lush dynamics. The duo's differing musical approaches perfectly compliment each other, producing sweet, yet biting songs about transitioning, queer love and mental health. Following the success of their first single, Playing the Fool (April 2021), the band is in production for their first full length due in 2022.

You loved Playing the Fool, watch out for their sure to be hit follow-up Alkali
