Jacked Ramsays: Blazers 3-0 and Basketball is Fun Again?24 Oct 202201:09:27
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they dive into the last 2 games for the Portland Trail Blazers against the Phoenix Suns and the Los Angeles Lakers that saw the Blazers step in and close out both teams in exciting fashion. After that - it’s a Mail Bag edition where the fellas answer as many of your questions as possible! The Anfernee Simons Block: Should there be a concern about Anfernee Simons’ slow start or is this similar to Damian Lillard or CJ McCollum having a slow start the the season? If not, is there a game marker when it could/should become a problem? We’re y’all surprised when Chauncey subbed Ant back into the game for Justise late in the 4th qtr? I was. All’s well that ends well or should we still be concerned with these rotations? The Shaedon Sharpe Block: Is/Should Shaedon Sharpe be looked at as the Blazers 6th man? I know it’s super early, but with what we’ve seen from Sharpe so far, what do the Blazers have here? Do they legit have a dude who you could see becoming an all-star within the next few seasons? Nassir and Shaedon seem like a tandem that should share 100% of their minutes on court together. Ummm.. analysis? The You Can’t Trade Josh Hart Block: This is way too early, but: can they even afford to trade Josh Hart? He simultaneously seems like their best trade chip but also the emotional/grit heart of the team. What’s the move this year, apart from obvious roster balance issues? The Odds & Ends Block: With the Blazers having another game with high turnovers, how do they fix the issue? What do think is the biggest improvement made by Chauncey from his 1st year into his 2nd year? Is this start for real?! I mean, how far into this season do we need to go before we recalibrate what we think this team is capable of? Game 1 Reactions and Looking Ahead to Game 221 Oct 202201:15:32
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brand Sprague on this live show of Jacked Ramsays where they’ll hit on: Blazers get 1st win against the Sacramento Kings! The Blazers find a way to win without Damian Lillard at his best and Anfernee Simons having a very “normal” night.  Jerami Grant debuts and shows exactly what the Blazers have been missing at the wing position since the departure of LaMarcus Aldridge while Josh Hart fills the gaps left by Wes Matthews and his bull dog mentality Jusut Nurkic continues to disappoint, providing very little vallue on either end of the floor. Coach Chauncey Billups makes his first big move as a head coach, opting to sit Nurkic and deploying the small ball closing lineup featuring Lillard, Simons, Har, Grant and Justise Winslow Shaedon Sharpe makes his NBA debut and looks like he belongs in the rotation immediately. Calm and collected, Billups went back to the rookie for a 2nd shift in the 2nd half. Danny and Brandon go back to Monday and revisit highlights from Trail Blazers GM Joe Cronin’s interview- and dissect what was and what wasn’t said. Then it’s looking ahead to Blazers-Suns as the Blazers open up Moda Center to the Suns fresh off a 20-point come from behind victory over Luka Doncic and the Mavs, perhaps staving up at least some of the putrid tast of what lingers following last years Game 7 humiliation. Trail Blazers General Manager Joe Cronin Joins the Show!18 Oct 202200:26:05
On a special episode on the eve of Opening Night in the NBA, hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague are joined by Portland Trail Blazers GM Joe Cronin for an exclusive interview. With breaking news of an unexpected extension for 4th year forward Nassir Little, Cronin is asked how the deal came together- his relationship with Little and what it means for the organization going forward. From there it’s time to dig into the product on the floor- Cronin was asked about where the team is now, setting the tone and what the evaluation process looks like on this team through the first 20 games and here’s a snippet of what he had to say: “Our perspective is just, we’re building here. We have a goal that we’re trying to achieve - we’re trying to, play Chauncey’s brand of ball which for us you know, will involve some patience for us and some rewiring for some players and just stylistically these guys figuring out how to play together.I think it’s easy for some guys to be able to say this but I do think we mean this... We’re not fixated on outcomes right now - I mean, we want to win and we’re very competitive - just as people and our roster is as well, but we want to see growth and we want to see us winning ball games the right way. So our goal is to be patient. I’ve said a lot publicly that we have a ways to go still and we all know that - but at the same time we like where we are. I’m just probably a more of positive than a negative person by nature and I’m looking at the positives that we’ve seen and there’s a lot of them.” From there it’s time to dig into the product on the floor- particularly how the Blazers have looked during the preseason so far the reactions around the fanbase. Cronin was asked about how he gauges the preseason, how much he takes into account practice & development behind the scenes vs what happens on the floor. “Generally speaking I try not to put too much weight into preseason, specifically around wins and losses because teams might clear their bench at given times and all of that, but I’d be lying to you if I said that I wasn’t paying attention to the quality of play during those preseason games there were certain things I wanted to see.”“I wanted to see us defend at a higher level. See us be productive offensively and play with some pace and there were some certain games where that didn’t happen. And I definitely discount it to an extent that yes, it was a preseason game and yes this group hasn’t played together a lot and it’s going to take some time to figure their stuff out. But - I think it’s just natural when you’re watching and you see things that aren’t necessarily clicking, can be alarming and you wonder, is it this game or is this how we are? How far away are we from where we want to be?” Questions about how and what choices were made to run and build a team around Damian Lillard at the same time as developing around “the rails of Shaedon Sharpe, Anfernee Simons, Nassir Little and other younger players,” the development of Shaedon Sharpe, and knowing where players abilities and coaching desires might not always line up and how to manage that. Preseason Review with Sean Highkin13 Oct 202201:28:21
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprauge with special guest Sean Highkin as they take a look at where the Blazers sit before heading into Game 1 of the regular season. What's broken? What works? What were the biggest issues coming out of preseason and why are they so glaring? There's plenty to point to, the offense never got going, the defense is a mess while turnovers and fouling are prevalent. Where do you even start? The defense is getting the early cleansing and it starts with Jusuf Nurkic. Brought back and paid, Nurkic has yet to put together a single stretch of effectiveness on the defensive end. Outplayed in every match up, racking up fouls while reverting the less than glamourous flip shots - the Blazers haven't been able to get much out of Bosnian, let alone the Beast. With porous defense above the free throw line, why does it matter if Nurkic isn't playing his part? Together the guys dive into the WHY it matters so much that Nurkic be a problem solver. From there they'll take on listener questions! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Jacked Ramsays X Locked On Blazers: Smashing the Panic Button?11 Oct 202200:59:54
Mike Richman of Locked On Blazers joins hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague to dig into what they’ve seen from the Portland Trail Blazers through 4 Preseason games. How much of it really matters? What they’ve been watching for and seeing or not seeing and whether that spells trouble for the Blazers. Josh Hart is named the starter, should he stay there - and if yes for how long? What would/will it take for Justise Winslow or Nassir Little to unseat Hart? Is anyone worried about Damian Lillard - or is this just working through the kinks of not playing for nearly 10 months? Is playing with and/or off of Anfernee Simons going to be a problem for either Lillard or Simons in the long term? Jusuf Nurkic doesn’t appear ready to play more than 20+ minutes per night physically. Can the Blazers get him ramped up and in condition to do what they need him to - and if so, how long until he’s up to speed? Can the Blazers get more out of their bench unit, or is this a team that’s going to go as far as the starting group will take them? That and more on the latest Jacked Ramsays! Making Sense of the Blazers and Kings with Deuce Mason08 Oct 202200:34:16
Deuce Mason of "Deuce & Mo" dropped by to talk state of the Sacramento Kings. Where are they? What are they doing? WHY are they? Deuce has you covered from front to back with the additions of Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter, Mike Brown inserted as the new head coach, an evolution for De'Aaron Fox and optimizing Domantas Sabonis. The Kings are riding a 16 year streak of futility, now the longest in North American professional sports since the Seattle Mariners broke through just weeks ago. In a year where Victor Wembenyama and Scoot Henderson sit as franchise changers to the winner of the NBA Draft Lottery, the Kings have decided they want to pursue the playoffs at all costs and reward and entire generation of Kings fans the opportunity they've missed out on for so long. Regardless of the actual ceiling of this version of the roster. Grab the family and sit around the cell phone, tablet, or whatever electronic device it is you're on and watch and/or listen to Danny and Deuce get down on the projections for two teams that seemingly no one out of their markets know what to make of them. Should You be Worried About the Blazers Right Now?06 Oct 202201:18:18
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague on the first official Jacked Ramsays of the 2022-23 season! Together they’ll take a look at the first 2 games of the preseason that saw the new look Portland Trail Blazers take on Kawhi Leonard, Paul George and the Los Angeles Clippers in Seattle at Climate Pledge Arena Monday night followed by a road-home back-to-back against the stripped down Utah Jazz at Moda Center Tuesday night. What, if anything did we learn about this Blazers team? What should you take from early preseason action? Does hitting your shots and looking in midseason form matter in the exhibition season? Questions, questions, questions - which are exactly the things that the guys will be asking each other to see where they gauge the Blazers right now. On the list...How does Damian Lillard look overall and healthwise - are there any lingering concerns there? The addition of Jerami Grant - how does he hit and will the Blazers be able to optimize him? How do the offensive and defensive philosophies designed/employed by Coach Chauncey Billups look early on? Pushing pace, forcing turnovers, aggressive switching, etc. How Have Anfernee Simons and Damian Lillard looked as backcourt running-mates? Who has the inside track on the small forward starting spot? Can Jusuf Nurkic get in the kind of shape the Blazers need him to be in to be effective and efficient on both ends of the floor? That and a whole lot more on the latest Jacked Ramsays - tap in! Jacked Ramsays: Media Day Reactions & Thoughts27 Sep 202201:20:11
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague following the official start of the season with Trail Blazers Media Day. Together they’ll take you through all the interviews from Monday morning and what they mean.  General Manager Joe Cronin stated “it will probably involve making additions soon and definitely in the future” after saying that they’re going to need to be “focusing on their connectivity, more so than whether we’re winning games on a nightly basis” so how exactly and where exactly does this play itself out? What should you watch for - what is “being connected?” Coach Chauncey Billups followed up Cronin saying “Trying to create a culture of connectedness, I want to be the most connected team in the league. The most connected teams are really successful. I want to be the team that no one wants to play.” Harkening back to his days with the Detroit Pistons - this leans more into the process over results that perhaps the Blazers are looking for. Connectedness as a culture very much being the driving force on and off the floor.  Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons echoed these sentiments, I asked them about the differences between the era of Lillard and now New Orleans Pelicans guard, CJ McCollum: With me and CJ we could score a lot of points, you could count on CJ to get 20-25, the difference this year will be - I’m going to make the right play, I’m gonna get in the paint hit the roll man, hit the corner…& with Ant I’ve had him here since he was 19 years old, I could tell him this is why I do this - this why I go about his and bc he was so young he was able to watch it and adopted that so early and he’s unselfish - him being my rook, it’ll be like there’s 2 of us out there - Ant is going to make the right play. I won’t look like my turn his turn. The ball will move around more naturally and it’ll be more natural. There’s so, so, so much more to pull from Media Day, dive on in and get involved with the guys from Jacked Ramsays now! Jabari Walker - How to Star in Your Role31 Aug 202200:32:52
On the latest episode of Jacked Ramsays, hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague are joined by Trail Blazers rookie wing/big from University of Colorado - Jabari Walker! Together they hit on Jabari falling on NBA Draft night from a possible first round pick to the 57th overall (and second to last pick of the draft) - and how that went for him mentally...as well as maybe keeping a few notes on all the teams that passed on him (even a team that reached out to apologize). Adjusting from being a leading scorer and rebounder in the Pac-12 at Colorado to adjusting to the NBA in Summer League and the changes that come with getting out of your own way as well as developing in college in 2 years after being an unranked recruit. Looking at where Jabari ranked against the stars of Summer League like Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith Jr and Keegan Murray - and how he was able to perform at the top of Summer League without the ball in his hands. How to be a star in his role - and how his father instilled in him how to really understand his role and a humbling process in high school helping get him to where he is now. We wrap it up with Jabari’s thoughts on where he hopes he’s rated when NBA2K23 comes out and whether or not he’s starting on his 2K team. Tap in! Anfernee Simons: “I want to be a 50/40/90 guy”20 Aug 202200:40:38
On the latest episode of Jacked Ramsays, hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague are joined by Portland Trail Blazers guard, Anfernee Simons. Fresh off his newly signed 4-year, $100 million contract the guys ask Ant what has changed in his life since he put pen to paper on such a life changing deal. Where was he, what does he remember and most importantly - what was the journey like for him to go from such a young man to where he is today. From there it was about the questions that have bounced around Portland ever since CJ McCollum was traded - what’s different about a Damian Lillard-Anfernee Simons backcourt from a Lillard-McCollum one and why can it work this time? Simons highlights specifically how he’s different on not just offense but defense as well - including the additions of new teammates and the overhaul of the roster from the start of last year until now. Beyond that, Simons lays out some of his goals for next year - including the idea of becoming a “50/40/90 guy” (for those unaware, these are benchmarks for 50% from the field, 40% from the 3 points line and 90% from the free throw line) as one of his realistic goals. Hop on in for the rest as Danny and Brandon bring the first of a series of player interviews heading into next year! What Does Damian Lillard Look Like This Year?13 Aug 202200:56:20
Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague take on some big Portland Trail Blazers questions heading into the 2022-23 NBA season on the latest episode of the Jacked Ramsays Podcast! What does Damian Lillard look like this year? Which version of him is best for this team and how/where can evolve? That’s the first question of many that Danny & Brandon take a look at as the framing for next year becomes more apparent. Who gets the short end of the stick if new free agent acquisition Gary Payton II is playing stout defense and they need him to close a game? While bigger questions are out there - one of the more interesting ones is how/when GP2 will be deployed by Chauncey Billups and how that signing can be optimized. Can newly-signed Anfernee Simons breakthrough and be more than the “near All-Star” guy that CJ McCollum was and more! Lost in the shuffle of new additions and better fits is the question of whether Simons can meet and then surpass the previous contributions of CJ McCollum. Is it possible and if so, what does he need to do and how likely is that to happen? SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! Offseason Grade Time!07 Aug 202201:06:28
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they set their final grades for the offseason as the officially, unofficial final grade date of August 1st has passed. Together they take a look at each transaction accordingly, the acquisition of Jerami Grant from the Detroit Pistons for a 2025 Protected 1st Round Pick from the Milwaukee Bucks, signing free agent and former Golden State Warriors big guard Gary Payton II, drafting Shaedon Sharpe #7 overall from Kentucky and Jabari Walker #57 overall from Colorado, and finally - re-signing and retaining Anfernee Simons and Jusuf Nurkic on 4-year deals while brining back big man Drew Eubanks. How Can Gary Payton II Help the Blazers?22 Jul 202200:33:30
On this episode of Jacked Ramsays, Danny Marang is joined by Sam Esfandiari of “Light Years” show covering the Golden State Warriors to give insight on the newest addition to the Portland Trail Blazers, Gary Payton II. One of the biggest push backs over Payton’s addition is his “lack” of size - Sam highlights how that wasn’t really an issue for the Warriors and the role(s) you can expect Payton to play and excel in. Playing alongside Steph Curry preparing Payton to play alongside Damian Lillard and/or Anfernee Simons. From there it’s why this time was right for Payton, how he got onto the floor for the Warriors and how he’s more than good enough to get on the floor for 20 minutes a night in the NBA Finals. The guys then dive into where the Blazers are Warriors likely find themselves in the pecking order of the Western Conference next year - and how Portland can perhaps put themselves in a better position than where the early betting lines (40.5 wins) have them landing. Summer League Champs!17 Jul 202200:39:56
Join Danny Marang as he talks the Trail Blazer’s second Summer League title in the last 4 years (have fun, I dare you) - beating the New York Knicks in the final, 85-77. Leading the charge, big man Trendon Watford who secured a unanimous Summer League Championship game MVP award 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. With Brandon Williams (22 points, 5 assists) and Jabari Walker’s continued stellar debut campaign contributing 14 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks supporting Watford and the Blazer’s run to the title. What does any of it mean? While it comes with the very real caveat of “it’s only Summer League” - there’s still plenty of lessons to be garnered here. The style and flow of each game felt different, while the type of personnel General Manager Joe Cronin and his staff are after has felt evident throughout each game. Bolstered by Coach Steve Hetzel taking and building up an attitude and mentality of defense first that emanates from the top with head Coach Chaucey Billups. Beyond style and personnel theory, the impact of 57th overall pick Jabari Walker appears to be something very real and one of the bigger storylines heading into training camp. Will either he or fellow rookie Shaedon Sharpe shine enough to work themselves into real minutes in the preseason - thrown into the crucible of the stiffest competition they’ve faced yet- or will the Blazers soft launch both of them- spoon feeding opportunities to make sure they aren’t overwhelmed? It’s that and a whole lot more on the latest Jacked Ramsays! SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! Learn more about your ad choices. Jabari Walker Signs; Blazers Roster Set?16 Jul 202200:57:27
Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague for another live Jacked Ramsays! Jabari Walker has signed a full contract with the Trail Blazers, reports have it listed as a 3-year deal for $4.57 million, the first year guaranteed, the second year partially guaranteed with nothing guaranteed on the final year. With Walker as the story of the Blazer’s Summer League (with #7 overall pick Shaedon Sharpe out injured) one of the last real questions heading into training camp this year was whether or not he would be on the Blazers as a two-way contract or a full guarantee. With this deal signed, the Blazer’s roster is full at 15 players with one remaining two-way contract if the Blazers choose to pursue additional depth on the developmental market. This also brings the Blazer’s space between them and the hard cap down to around $4.2 million, with the ability to use the $4.1 million available via the BAE or up to $4.2 million of the $6.5 million TPE created during the Robert Covington to the Los Angeles Clippers transaction. Will the Blazers use any of it? With potential big transactions around Kevin Durant and/or Donovan Mitchell coming in the next few days, the Blazers could perhaps find themselves in a position to move some players/money around in a 2-for-1 swap to get their roster back down to the preferred count of 14 AND have the ability to better balance the front court. The Jazz have put a “everything must go” sign out front and the idea of either working in on a megadeal to help facilitate or by peeling off a player such as Jarred Vanderbilt would be the best reasonable business Portland could find, but how/will they do it? Hop on in with Danny and Brandon as they move through the ins and outs of it all and get ready for the 4th and perhaps final game of Summer League tonight! Learn more about your ad choices. Summer League Check In12 Jul 202201:01:48
It’s been a busy couple of days in Las Vegas for the Portland Trail Blazers on and off the basketball court. Join hosts Danny Marang (fresh off his return from Las Vegas) and Brandon Sprague as they dive into anything and everything that’s happened so far! Rookie Shaedon Sharpe picked up an injury in the opening minutes of his debut that will keep him out of the rest of Summer League competition- but what does it mean long term for the young man? Damian Lillard signed a 2-year $121 million dollar contract extension that will keep him with the organization through the next 5 seasons- will that silence noise around him possibly asking out? Meanwhile, the second to last pick in this year’s NBA Draft - Jabari Walker has played incredibly well in his first two games...so much so that it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some extended run for him down the stretch and into the preseason to see where he stands. State of the Blazers Heading into Summer League07 Jul 202201:06:43
With what appears most of the big roster moves out of the way for the Portland Trail Blazers, hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague take a look at where things stand as the Blazers get ready to head to Las Vegas for Summer League. The news of the day comes from Jody Allen announcing her plans in running the franchise moving forward. With the Blazers retaining Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic and Drew Eubanks while bringing in Jerami Grant, Shaedon Sharpe and Gary Payton II, it looks like the Blazers may be done. However, with the looming idea of a Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and/or Deandre Ayton trade(s), the Blazers may hope to peel one more piece off of a deal to round out their 15 man roster. Kevin Durant to Portland and Finding a Starting Small Forward27 Jun 202201:09:25
Damian Lillard made sure that things didn’t cool down around the Portland Trail Blazers following the NBA Draft by putting up a photoshop of him and Kevin Durant in a Trail Blazers jersey. This of course took social media by storm and got everyone talking, could Durant be on the move and is Portland a viable landing place? On the latest Mail Bag Jacked Ramsays, hosts Danny Marang & Brandon Sprague address the Durant to Portland possibility (and what that package would ultimately look like). With the Draft in the in the rear view mirror and Free Agency only a couple days away - Danny & Brandon take a look at what options the Blazers may have in front of them; whether via trade and/or free agency, check on news and notes around the league. Then it’s off to Summer League and the “loaded” lineup the Blazers will be bringing- and an idea of what they’re hoping to see happen over the next few days leading up to free agency moratorium. Draft Recap and Looking to Free Agency25 Jun 202201:00:40
The 2022 NBA Draft is in the books and the Portland Trail Blazers surprised everyone by using their #7 overall pick on Kentucky Wildcat (technically, it counts) Shaedon Sharp and followed that up with using the #57 overall pick on Colorado Buffalo, Jabari Walker. Now, hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague take a look at what it all means and where the Trail Blazers go from here. The Blazers opted not to finalize a deal for Toronto Raptor OG Anunoby, instead they made it known that in order for them to move off of the #7 overall pick that they would need to be “wowed” by an offer. Does this create a roster imbalance similar to one we saw under former GM Neil Olshey? Does taking a rookie at the guard spot mean that the organization is trying to live on multiple time lines or do they truly believe he can get on the floor and be a difference maker now? Then, we’ll look to free agency and Summer League to try to forecast the next steps for the Blazers and the first time we’ll see Sharpe and Walker on the floor. Blazers Trade for Jerami Grant: Live Reaction23 Jun 202200:46:27
Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they take a look at the breaking news from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the Portland Trail Blazers have traded for Detroit Pistons wing, Jerami Grant the day before the NBA Draft. With the first real move of the offseason, the Blazers have used their Traded Player Exception to absorb the nearly $21 million dollar deal of Grant and a whole lot of 2nd round pick swaps to get the deal to the finish line...this sets the table for the Trail Blazers going into the 2022 NBA Draft still with their 7th overall pick in the hands as well as potential other assets to get a deal done. Danny and Brandon will take a look at the deal, how it impacts decisions in the coming 24 hours and what may be coming next. Bold Predictions for NBA Draft Night20 Jun 202200:58:32
It’s NBA Draft week and Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague are taking on your questions in an hour long mail bag extravaganza! Between rumors, workouts, news breaks and everything in between, there’s been no shortage of discussion topics as the Blazers head into the biggest changeover the franchise has seen in at least 6 seasons and with those changes come questions. On this episode Danny and Brandon give somewhat bold predictions for expectations on the NBA Draft and who they see possibly falling short of expectations. Is Chet Holmgren really a unicorn? Does Ben Mathurin profile like a lead scoring guard or is he more reminiscent of Ben McLemore? With the Stepien Rule possibly holding the Blazers pick right until they make it - does that effect the timing of what we may see for a potential trade involving that pick? If it came down to it, would you be “okay” with the Blazers using the 7th overall pick and not looking to compete now based on expectations the franchise has laid out? What does a “good, better, best” scenario look like for Portland following the NBA Draft and what constitutes a successful Draft day? If you had to rank OG Anunoby, John Collins, Jerami Grant, using the pick and everything else the Blazers have been linked to - what looks most likely and where does that line up with what they need to get done? That and more on this week’s mail bag show! NBA Draft Countdown with the Jacked Ramsays17 Jun 202200:38:48
With only a week until the NBA Draft, Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague take a look at all of the news, notes and rumors around the NBA and tying to the Portland Trail Blazers on the latest Jacked Ramsays live show! The rumor of the day? The possibility of the Blazers moving back in the Draft, swapping 7 for the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Lu Dort and the #12 pick. Would it make sense for the Blazers to look to add “pieces” to work with if other options ran out in front of them with players like Deandre Ayton, OG Anunoby and John Collins - didn’t pan out? As it pertains to Ayton, are talks around the Suns big man dying down? Are the Blazers focused on other player and/or other positions or are the Phoenix Suns looking for something the Blazers don’t have? Adrian Wojnarowski stated that “The Pistons, Pacers, Wizards and Knicks are all in talks with the Kings about trading up to No. 4 overall for Jaden Ivey” - how will that shake up the NBA Draft? What would it cost a team to move into the top 4 of the Draft and could Portland possibly be involved? Hop on in and get involved now on the latest live show! Learn more about your ad choices. What Does a Good Offseason Really Look Like for the Blazers?13 Jun 202200:50:55
On this Mail Bag Episode of Jacked Ramsays, Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague take on your pressing questions less than 2 weeks away from the NBA Draft. With all of the smoke around OG Anunoby, Deandre Ayton, John Collins and Jerami Grant - how likely are the Blazers to land any of them? Could they actually secure two with their asset pool? What does that look like financially? If the Blazers stumbled into the most impressive offseason in franchise history - turning away form the Neil Olshey era and into the Joe Cronin one by landing viable talent beyond expectations... what next? Even if the Blazers did the unthinkable and acquired 2 of the above players - does that put them into title contention? If not, what are the next steps the franchise would need to take in order to elevate themselves into that conversation? While it’s hard to narrow down Mid-Level Exception targets without knowing just who Portland will land during/around the NBA Draft, but with Free Agency right around the corner- who are the names that the Blazers could be looking at to fill out their overhauled roster? We’ll cover that and more on the latest Mail Bag Jacked Ramsays Live Show! SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! Learn more about your ad choices. Jacked Ramsays: Mail Bag-a-palooza07 Jun 202201:11:08
It’s a Jacked Ramsays Mail Bag where hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague answer as many listener questions as they can in an hour. The biggest news for the Blazers, perhaps in over 20+ years dropped this week as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted out that former Nike founder and CEO Phil Knight (along with real estate mogul and partial owner of the LA Dodgers, Alan Smolinisky) submitted a written bid north of $2billion for the Portland Trail Blazers. With that much of the show focused on the ins and outs of the potential deal - how Portland as an organization and city could benefit and the likelihood of it all coming together. Beyond the major news, the Blazers continue to be linked in rumors to the Toronto Raptors’ OG Anunoby, the Phoenix Suns’ Deandre Ayton, the Atlanta Hawks’ John Collins and to the Detroit Pistons’ Jerami Grant by various outlets and reporters. With less than 3 weeks to the NBA Draft, the Blazers appear to be ramping up the noise and/or smoke around their desire to make a big move with the assets they currently have on hand. Speaking of the Draft, after bringing in G-League Ignite’s Dyson Daniels for their first post NBA Draft combine workout. With Daniels being mocked in the region the Blazers are slotted to pick, this lines up with what General Manager Joe Cronin as stated the team will do - establishing value of the pick, which includes getting eyes on players that could be available at #7. This also include Bennedict Mathurin of the University of Arizona, who held a private workout at the Blazer’s practice facility but also denied the request to speak with local media following said workout. While not a major problem, it does look like Mathurin’s camp is trying to protect their client at all costs leading up to the draft. No player has ever fallen in the Draft for failing to speak to local media following a closed door workout. It’s a full hour with Marang and Sprague covering any and all the breaking news while answering the biggest questions submitted - so tap in and get watch and/or listen as the guys fill in all the blanks. Looking at Draft Night Options with Rafael Barlowe of LockedOnNBA03 Jun 202201:05:09
Rafael Barlowe of NBA Draft Big Board and LockedOnNBA joins Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague to take a look what the Portland Trail Blazers are facing leading up to the NBA Draft night. Together the trio hits on potential prospects that could be within in range for the Trail Blazers at pick #7, starting with the first high profile name attached to the Blazers by their first workout - G-League Ignite’s Dyson Daniels. Barlowe discusses Daniels’ late rise (without any games being played) from mid-lottery to early 20’s a few months ago to now being a potential top 5 pick. AJ Griffin, Keegan Murray and another dark-harse candidate in Shaedon Sharpe - and how they’d fit in Portland are all up for debate. Assessing value to the #7 pick is something that Blazers GM Joe Cronin has said the Blazers will continue to evaluate - so, Barlowe attempts to lay out the value of the pick in this class against a few others and just how deep this draft class is. Beyond the draft class, Danny and Brandon ask Rafael his thought on the value of the pick in trades as Portland has been linked with multiple higher end young players like OG Anunoby and Deandre Ayton in the last 2 weeks. Where would he draw the line on a return and what makes the most sense for the Blazers now and in the future? It’s an hour plus of a deep dive into the decisions the Blazers face in a little less than 3 weeks with the Draft rapidly approaching. Jacked Ramsays: Blazers Linked to OG Anunoby02 Jun 202201:06:51
On this edition of Jacked Ramsays Live, hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague discuss the second big name the Portland Trail Blazers have been linked to nationally, OG Anunoby. Joining Deandre Ayton, Anunoby is a player that answers a lot of questions the Blazers have been asking for years about their frontcourt - can he defend? Does he have size? Is there any semblance of offense in his game? Both players tick those boxes and while Ayton wants max money, Anunoby is on what most consider to be an incredibly valuable deal - slotting under 20m AAV. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report states that: “Following a standout season from Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes, word has circulated among rival front offices that Anunoby grew dissatisfied at times with his role in Toronto, where Barnes joined Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet as the primary ball-handlers in Nick Nurse’s offense.” Which, if you’ve been following along this offseason is something that has been discussed at length. Now, it’s gone semi-public with Fischer highlighting that a formal request from either Anunoby or his representatives (read: Klutch Sports) has not yet materialized. However, what appears to be transpiring is the Blazers are linked to and going after impact players that make sense for the now timeline and the later. Hop on with Brandon and Danny as they work through Fischer’s reporting and see what’s next. SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! Jacked Ramsays Live: Blazers Hire ESPN’s Mike Schmitz to Front Office Role28 May 202200:53:38
Thursday evening, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Mike Schmitz - Draft Analyst for ESPN, formerly of Draft Express, was being hired by the Portland Trail Blazers to become an Assistant GM. Since the dismissal of Neil Olshey in December for creating a hostile working environment, multiple changes have taken place. Proceeding Olshey’s dismissal, Chris McGowan resigned his position as President while Chief Marketing Officer Dwayne Hankins was promoted internally to fill the same seat. The same was true of now GM Joe Cronin, who in Olshey’s absence stepped in as interim GM until recently being given the full time gig. Jason Quick of The Athletic noted yesterday some additional changes the Blazers have made since mid-December. Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they took a look at recent front office moves and what that may mean for the Blazers coming up. Does Schmitz’s hiring signal a change of plans for the Draft? How will his hiring help the Blazers? Hop on the live show and get your questions answered now! Joe Cronin Gets the Job & Zach LaVine to Portland?14 May 202201:05:59
Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they breakdown the big news of the day: Joe Cronin has been appointed the General Manager of the Portland Trail Blazers. In entirely unrelated news, Brian Windhorst of ESPN said on the Hoop Collective podcast today that the Portland Trail Blazers might be a landing spot for Klutch Sports client and upcoming free agent of the Chicago Bulls, Zach LaVine. In order to clear such room for the Blazers to sign LaVine, they would need to renounce Anfernee Simons, Joe Ingles and Jusuf Nurkic to even have a chance of creating the necessary room. Is there any truth to the noise or is this Klutch doing their best to shake free the best possible offers for their client? Could Portland partake in such a ploy to curry favor with the most powerful organization in the league currently? Draft Preview with Ricky O’Donnell of SBNation06 May 202201:07:27
Join Danny Marang live with special guest Ricky O’Donnell of SBNation as they take a look at the upcoming NBA Draft. Together they’ll preview Ricky’s big board - evaluating where he deviates from others, who he really believes in and who he’d rather stay away from. Does he have a surprise #1 overall pick? Does he buy into Chet Holmgren long-term or does someone like Paolo Banchero or Jabari Smith Jr make for the safer and/or more effective play? With the NBA Lottery less than 2 weeks away, the Trail Blazers have a 37.2% chance of jumping into the top 4 and a 9% chance of landing the number one overall pick. While it’s great to dream, the more likely scenario is that they’re picking between 6-8. With that, who in that range makes the most sense for right now and/or the future? As guard heavy as Portland is, if the best player available is guard-esque such as Jaden Ivey (unlikely to be there, but still) or Shaedon Sharpe - does Portland need to take the risk of bloating the guard position to make sure they get the most bang for their buck? Or, should the Blazers factor in Damian Lillard’s timeline and look to who’s most ready now - say perhaps Keegan Murray? Finally, we’ll ask Ricky what he would do if he were in charge in Portland. If the pick landed Top 4 and there was an offer on the table for OG Anunoby or Deandre Ayton - would he rather have the sure thing or the rookie scale option and look more towards the future? An Early Look at Potential Free Agents for the Trail Blazers27 Apr 202201:15:13
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague on this episode of Jacked Ramsays Live. They’ll take a look at the upcoming group of free agents as the official offseason moves a step closer. Danny and Brandon will also discuss the impact of Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets getting swept by Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics. What does that do to the landscape? Could big changes in Brooklyn cause a domino effect throughout the league that forces teams to change their offseason plans? (Like, perhaps Ben Simmons and/or Kyrie Irving being put on the trade block?) The Trail Blazers will almost certainly have access to the full Mid-Level Exception (~$10.3m) this summer. What players and/or position groups might they look to target? Invest it all in a back up 5-man like Mo Bamba or Thomas Bryant? Target a 3⁄4 like Kyle Anderson or TJ Warren? Or maybe they split it up and focus on a younger, potential upswing player like Jalen Smith and paying a bit more than a vet minimum to outbid other teams for depth elsewhere? While the class of free agents isn’t great, Portland is motivated to get back on track after a “gap year” situation. After losing out on the New Orleans Pelicans’ lottery pick there’s less room for error around the rest of the roster. So tap in as the guys go over and debate which way the Blazers could go with the tools at their disposal. SUBSCRIBE: YouTube, Twitch, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google and Anywhere You Get Podcasts! Where Do the Blazers Turn Now?21 Apr 202201:23:32
Join hosts Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague live as they take on as many questions as they can in this one-hour live show! Following the New Orleans Pelicans’ playoff berth, the Portland Trail Blazers lost a second lottery pick heading into the 2022 NBA Draft and the 2022 offseason “Great Reshaping” of the Blazers roster. Without that additional lottery pick, where do they go? Could a deal still be done for Jerami Grant? Could the Blazers cobble together enough with the 2025 Bucks 1st round pick, a young player and Eric Bledsoe’s contract to get Grant or a player at least within range of him in contribution department? Interim GM Joe Cronin has said that they would evaluate the value of their own lottery pick after they know its standing versus what they could use it for on the open market to acquire a player for. Obviously Grant’s name has been out there — but what about a player such as OG Anunoby shaking free in Toronto? Would a Top 6-7 lottery pick be enough to convince GM Masai Ujiri to let him go? Toronto has a core of Fred VanVleet, Gary Trent Jr, Scottie Barnes, and Pascal Siakam alongside Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa. However, Toronto has wanted to add traditional size to their roster. There were rumors around the Portland Trail Blazers and Jusuf Nurkic multiple times over the past year. With Anunoby another player represented by Klutch Sports, could there perhaps be an alliance brewing with the mega-agency? Jacked Ramsays Live: Jeremy Woo of SI on the NBA Draft13 Apr 202200:41:57

We’ll hit on Jeremy’s Big Board, who he has rated as the best prospects, and whether or not his best prospect matches with Portland’s best fit. If Portland lands a top three pick, who does he value most for Portland for immediate impact of the long term: Jabari Smith Jr, Paolo Banchero, or Chet Holmgren? Then, they will also take a look at tiers, which players fall where, and mixing in with some recent NBA comparisons where available. When looking at the likes of Keegan Murray, AJ Griffin, Shaedon Sharpe and others — where are they now versus where could they be in the near future? Does Jeremy fall in the best player available camp or does fit carry more weight for the Blazers who want to return to competitive basketball? What will it cost to move up into the top four of this year’s draft if Portland wants to move back? Got NBA Draft questions? Jacked Ramsays Live: Sean Highkin of Bleacher Report Joins12 Apr 202201:16:07
Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague with special guest, Sean Highkin of Bleacher Report to run down the exit interviews today by the Portland Trail Blazers. Interim GM Joe Cronin was joined by Coach Chauncey Billups and players Josh Hart and Anfernee Simons as the only members of the franchise made available after their season came to an end Sunday evening, with a record of 27-55 missing the playoffs for the first time in 9 years and cementing the third worst season in franchise history. The “what now” is what’s on the menu - the NBA Draft Lottery is 35 days away, the New Orleans Pelicans play the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night where a loss will send them out of the play in tournament immediately and increase the likelihood of the pick they owe the Blazers in the CJ McCollum trade conveying. Once the lottery happens and the Blazers know what they have in their hands to work with - they can take on the task of working the phone lines as potential playoff hopefuls fall out of the race and Portland looks to bolster a squad that was stripped down to nothing. Brandon, Sean and Danny will take a look at all of the comments made today and look ahead to what’s on deck for the Trail Blazers over the next 60 days. Whether you’re interested in the NCAA Championship game’s remaining NBA Draft eligible players like Ochai Agbaji or Armando Bacot, we’ll make sure we cover all the angles of tonight’s game as well as what NCAA players made the biggest push up the ladder during the tournament, who fell down and what the Mock Draft Board starts to look like. Who will Portland take in the draft certainly hinges on where their own pick and potentially one conveyed by the New Orleans Pelicans lands, but if you’re allowing yourself to dream, is it Paolo Banchero or Jabari Smith Jr at number one? Perhaps you favor the bold and want to swing for Chet Holmgren? What if it lands between picks 4-6? What separates Jaden Ivey, Keegan Murray and AJ Griffin for the Blazers and do you look for fit or best player available? The offseason is only a week away for some teams, those headed to the playoffs could be there sooner than expected. If the Utah Jazz fall on their face, it appears they could be headed for a major overhaul - would or should the Blazers get involved for a deal for Jazz center Rudy Gobert if he becomes available? What if Donovan Mitchell is traded to the Miami Heat, could that domino trigger a move for Jimmy Butler to Portland? It’s time to get weird! Jacked Ramsays Post Game: Blazers vs Hawks15 Mar 202200:30:30
The Portland Trail Blazers get the tank back on track in Atlanta, dropping the first game of a 5-game trip for the Blazers, 122-113. While the Blazers are clearly leaning heavily on the idea of ping pong balls at the NBA Draft lottery, they’ve now figured out that losing by historic margins doesn’t actually improve their odds and as such have found ways to make the past couple games a bit more competitive. The player leading the charge? None other than Josh Hart, who followed up his 44-point bid with a 31-point, 7-rebound, 4-assist night. Plus we saw ANOTHER 20+ point performance from Trendon Watford (22 points, 9 rebounds) serving as the...what 6th version of a Blazers 1-2 punch this season? The Blazers now head off to New York to take on the Knicks and then to Brooklyn for the Nets (Portland might even stay in the same hotel?) before a back-to-back against the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons.
