Barbara Peterson, Landscape Architect

Barbara is from Texas and has been in Oklahoma for just over 4 ½-years. She’s a
registered Landscape Architect in both Texas and Oklahoma and spends her weekends traveling the state where she has now been to and photographed over 420 towns which is over 400 more than she ever stopped at in Texas where she lived since ‘73.
She doesn’t photograph residences or drive through neighborhoods but has seen every architectural style from historic 1800’s brick work to modern glass clad structures. She has been pleasantly surprised at the diversity of Oklahoma architecture because she had previously only drove through Oklahoma on the highway so she never expected the stunning diversity of the state or its architecture.
She was involved for a short time with OK ASLA. And before moving to Tulsa, was
involved and supported a 4-year high school architecture program in north Dallas. Her son and a friend’s daughter both graduated from that program, and both went on to study architecture. Her son is working on his ARE and the friend’s daughter is finishing her university studies.

Addison Schierbeek Architects:    https://addisonschierbeek.com/

Since moving to Los Angeles over 30 years ago, we’ve continued to hold the idea that “Living life on your own terms” begins with a focus on what matters most to our Clients.

“The 3 C’s of California Living” is Our guide for helping our clients live better lives. Connection, Collaboration, and Curiosity have been the cornerstones of who we are and how we practice architecture.

Su Addison, AIA

(T) 310-413-4899
(E) su@addisonschierbeek.com

To many of our clients, living life to the fullest begins with a deep connection to their environment and their community. Su’s gifts as an architect and designer have grown from a humanistic approach to the built environment. She’s passionate about helping our clients embrace their place in the world and creating sustainable projects to support those goals.

As part of her desire to connect with and enhance her community, Su collaborated with Jefferson and others to create Ocean Charter School, a K-8th grade school based on Waldorf pedagogical teaching.

Jefferson Schierbeek, AIA

Our clients don’t come to us without curiosity. They’re ready to explore what living a better life could look like. Jefferson’s career as an architect has been defined by curiosity. Whether he’s looking for a better way to design that critical construction detail or a better way to serve our clients and community, Jefferson is always in inquiry mode.

Hi, It's Michele! Send me a text with who you want as a guest!

Sooooo... this Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday and I wanted to celebrate sports instead of something political right now so I asked The EntreArchitect Facebook Group who was living in the cities of the competing teams and how their city was the better city, it was fairly non-competitive, but they did wear their sports paraphernalia, I was impartial in pale pink and black.

Please visit the blog for the images and the Book List and links:
https://inmawomanarchitect.blogspot.com/2024/12/booklist-interview-with-gregory-mottola.html

So I had met Greg at the Lutron event in Scottsdale, Arizona last Spring. And we follow each other on Instagram and I had wanted to do an interview with him and I asked him if it was possible to do the end of the year booklist episode and he kindly said yes.

Greg Mottola, FAIA is a Principal leading Bohlin Cywinski Jackson’s San Francisco studio. His human-centered design philosophy springs from a belief that powerful architecture must elevate the user experience, lift the spirit, and foster community.  His design work considers the project’s particular context: its place, culture, and climate to create exceptional buildings that resonate.  This approach furthers their award-winning practice’s reputation for sensitivity to landscape and context, the nature of people and culture, and the innovative use of material in response to circumstance.

He works at a variety of project scales and typologies ranging from large institutional buildings, commercial, retail and hospitality projects, to extraordinary private residences. The throughline for this range of work is an approach that carefully considers occupant experience—one that delights all the senses and contributes to resonating, emotionally powerful architecture balanced by technical rigor and execution.

Interview with Nancy Weinman and the annual "I've never met a woman architect before... Holiday Gift List 2024

https://inmawomanarchitect.blogspot.com/2024/11/interview-podcast-w-nancy-weinman-of.html

I started following Nancy Weinman on Instagram when I was looking to expand my Arizona connections. I have been licensed in Arizona for almost three years now and I was looking for a new mentor to foster opportunities in the area. I have always liked Arizona's natural features and the desert inspiration, and I want to start developing my own projects as well as working on residential and commercial projects in the Phoenix Scottsdale area.  I also have been asked many times about mentorship, and we have a good discussion about that in the podcast.

Nancy S. Weinman is the owner and principal architect at Weinman Architectural Services, a boutique architectural and design firm with offices in New York City and Sedona Arizona. She is accredited by the National Council of Architects Board with a career that has spanned over 40 years. Nancy is also a certified construction manager and served as an adjunct professor at New York University for over 7 years, where she taught several courses in construction management. During her career, Nancy has been the recipient of AIA awards, as well as an international lighting design award, and has been published by Rizzoli, Interior Design and Luxe magazines.

Hi, It's Michele! Send me a text with who you want as a guest!

My podcast with my amazing friend and architect Tim Andreas of AWEWORKS who can finally do a podcast with me because he doesn't have to sign an NDA, for the moment.

DELIVERING INSPIRING BEAUTY

Tim Andreas:
"While preparing for a team retreat in 2019 on Expertise vs. Opinion, I reflected on the four distinct phases of my career evolution and I realized that while I had been an architect, an interior designer, a digital innovator, and a leader, what I had always done was strive to deliver a beautiful project, inspiring awe and wonder.

That had been my singular purpose, from conception to execution. I had pivoted and progressed to gain experience across the breadth of design in order to understand the complete picture - from the perspective of both the client and the designer - to learn that design is ultimately about creating emotion."

Episode 55: Interview with Brian Linder, AIA , Broker Associate of "The Value of Architecture" 16 Sep 202301:09:30

Hi, It's Michele! Send me a text with who you want as a guest!

In this long awaited podcast episode, I speak with Architect and Broker Associate Brian Linder, AIA

A seasoned real estate professional with 20 years of experience in high-end, custom residential design and construction and a master’s degree in architecture, Brian Linder, AIA, brings design-oriented expertise to the buying and selling of estates, architectural properties and historic residences.

Over the course of his career, Brian has represented some of the most notable properties in Los Angeles, including work by Rudolf Schindler, Angélil/Graham, Coop Himmelblau and Eric Owen Moss. His sophisticated eye and understanding of complex real estate transactions have enabled him to assist buyers in finding value for their investment at every level of spending. A skilled marketer and Certified Negotiation Expert, Brian has also helped owners and developers market distinctive projects, from land with plans through the construction of speculative ventures. Viewing architecture as an opportunity, he brings his expertise to help buyers find the most interesting, well-designed homes available in their price range, and to help sellers get the highest possible prices for their special architect-designed homes.

Brian has built his real estate practice around a concept he calls “The Value of Architecture.” This concept is based on the notion that architectural homes provide countless lifestyle benefits, carry greater premiums, and tend to be less sensitive to market fluctuations. Brian leads the ongoing UCLA Extension course “The Value of Architecture” and has further developed this thesis in presentations to the American Institute of Architects, the Society of Architectural Historians and various local and national audiences. Brian is also committed to promoting architecture as art, featuring the work of practicing architects, including Marmol Radziner, Pugh Scarpa, and Patrick Tighe, on his website.

Brian spent several years as an architect and construction manager before earning his broker’s license and joining the firm formerly known as Mossler Deasy & Doe, the original marketers of architectural real estate in Los Angeles. Licensed in California, Texas and Washington, Brian has since been involved in the sale of architectural properties from Southern to Northern California and marketed out-of-state properties as far afield as New Canaan, Connecticut. In addition to working out of Compass’s Beverly Hills office, Brian holds court in Austin, Texas and has sold numerous architectural homes in a wide radius, including properties in Marfa, Texas, the minimalist modern art and architecture mecca.

When he’s not representing clients in real estate, Brian enjoys spending time with his kids, doing hot yoga several times a week—sometimes followed by a cold plunge in the ocean or Barton Springs when in Austin—hiking, mountain biking, surfing, touring architectural homes, organic gardening and chicken husbandry (he has seven raised beds and eight laying hens in his front yard), traveling, meditation and Native American studies. Brian holds a BS in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University and MA in Architecture from UCLA. He is an active member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Episode 50: Interview with Lisa Raynes, RIBA of Pride Road Architecture Franchise25 Nov 202201:02:54

Hi, It's Michele! Send me a text with who you want as a guest!

Interview with Lisa Raynes, architect and creator and owner of the Pride Road Architecture Franchise.

Lisa is an architect that specialises in the domestic sector which, she discovered, is perfect for getting her "work-life balance just right."[1] After being made redundant twice due to maternity leave, she decided, in 2010, to set up Raynes Architecture, [2], out of necessity, as there were no architecture employment opportunities at the time. However, the gender inequality within architecture continued to frustrate her, so recently she created the franchise Pride Road in June 2016, which has been a Chartered Practice for only six months (as of January 2018), [3] yet is a "game changer for women in architecture,"[4] as it allows her to give her flexible business model to other architects, so they too could enjoy their families, as well as their work. Raynes argues that "On entering the architecture school, there is 50/50 split across genders but once you get into practice, the numbers fall to 20-30% of all architects being women," [5] so despite women being equally interested in architecture, they "fall prey to economic cycles far more than men and once [they] decide to have a family."

Twenty years and two sons later, they are still passionate about designing for the lifestyle of each client.

On the side, Pamela currently enjoys volunteering with her son on everything from Bingo with Seniors to making burritos for the homeless. INSPIRATION

The first part of this interview was done during the Pandemic shutdown and I wanted to replay this interview to remind us of this part of our history and the effects that it has on the creative community and their Inspiration. The second part of the interview was done recently outside the amphitheater space at the Mingei Museum on a beautiful Saturday afternoon
