| With Special Guest Jeremy K. Gover! | 18 Nov 2021 | 01:02:15 | |
This week Jeremy K. Gover, Nashville correspondent for AP radio, stops by the It’s All Your Fault studios to join hosts Michael Gallagher and Megan Seling in discussing some of the Nashville Predators’ more impressive improvements so far. The power play is working, there’s production from the top line, and some of the rookies are thriving. Does this early (and frankly surprising) success have any bearing on any moves David Poile might be considering before the trade deadline? Especially in regards to one Mr. Filip Forsberg? Also discussed: The team has a wealth of goaltenders – how will it all play out over the next few seasons? Plus: Do we all owe Matt Duchene an apology?
| With Special Guest Alex Daugherty! | 12 Nov 2021 | 01:01:59 | |
Alex Daughterty of AtoZSports Nashville joins hosts Michael Gallagher and Megan Seling to discuss one big question on many Preds’ fans minds: Has Filip Forsberg run his course in Nashville? On the Nashville Post this week Gallagher points out, “After playing in every game during his first three full seasons with the Predators, Forsberg has had trouble staying healthy ever since. He has missed a combined 56 games over the last four seasons, and he's been shelved for at least 15 games or more in three of the last four years.” Also discussed: Tanner Jeannot is surprising a lot of people, but what other rookies are worth another look? Plus: Dante Fabbro’s hair! The power play’s success! And Daughtery has some good advice for anyone wanting to get their start in sports journalism.
| All the Right Pieces in All the Right Places | 04 Nov 2021 | 00:56:06 | |
The Nashville Predators are retiring Pekka Rinne’s jersey number! The power play is working! The top line is scoring! Tanner Jeannot is Tanner Jeannoting! There is a lot of big news to cover this week, and It’s All Your Fault hosts Michael Gallagher, J.R. Lind and Megan Seling dive right in to discuss all the ways in which things are going right for Smashville. Also discussed: Could any players on the current roster eventually see their jersey number hanging in the rafters? And where does Ryan Johansen get all his smart snack hacks? Plus: A look at how Preds broadcaster Terry Crisp has made Smashville such a warm and welcoming place for new hockey fans.
| With Special Guest Kayla Anderson! | 27 Oct 2021 | 00:45:14 | |
This week WKRN’s award-winning sports reporter Kayla Anderson joins IAYF co-hosts Michael Gallagher and Megan Seling to discuss the Preds season so far. Does Filip Forsberg have a future with the franchise? How could the team could better utilize their younger players? Is this strong performance from the team’s top players a sign of what’s to come or a flash in the pan? Also discussed: Connor Ingram’s NHL debut and the funny story behind how Anderson won her Emmy. Follow Kayla Anderson on Twitter at @KaylaAndersonTV.
| With Special Guest Teresa Walker! | 22 Oct 2021 | 00:46:09 | |
This week co-hosts Michael Gallagher and Megan Seling are joined by award-winning sports journalist Teresa Walker. Walker has been a sportswriter for the Associated Press for more than 30 years. She has won Tennesee’s Sportswriter of the Year four times and was inducted into the Tennesse Sports Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2020. Having been covering the Preds since their beginning, Walker has tons of smart insight on what the team could do this season to make the most of their “competitive transition,” and she also has some great advice for aspiring sportswriters.
| A Revolving Door of Mediocrity | 13 Oct 2021 | 01:11:25 | |
There’s just one more sleep until hockey officially starts in Smashville and this week hosts Michael Gallagher, J.R. Lind and Megan Seling take turns making predictions for the season. Who will lead the team in goals? Who will be traded away before the trade deadline? Will the team make the playoffs? Will Juuse Saros be a Veznia finalist? And what will happen during February’s Stadium Classic game against Tampa Bay? Plus: Gallagher makes the case for Ryan Johansen to be promoted to associate captain and Lind hopes the team’s latest assistant general manager hire turns into a King Lear situation. Wait, what?
| Hello, Competitive Rebuild! | 30 Sep 2021 | 01:01:18 | |
We’re just weeks away from hockey season and this week It’s All Your Fault co-hosts Michael Gallagher and Megan Seling are joined by reporter and Nashville Predators expert J.R. Lind to discuss how the players are looking now that they’ve gotten back on the ice for training camp. Who stood out among the prospects? Which veteran players were looking ready to lead the pack through this “competitive rebuild”? And what does "competitive rebuild" mean anyway? Also discussed: Have the Nashville Predators burned a bridge with Filip Forsberg? That’s the question Gallagher asked in a recent Nashville Post story. Plus: Early predictions! Will this team make the playoffs? Why or why not? And how could the rest of the offseason Central Division shakeups impact Nashville's success?
| Goodbye, Geert | 02 Sep 2021 | 00:58:05 | |
The It’s All Your Fault goodbye episodes continue as we say farewell to one of our own -- host Geert De Lombaerde is leaving the Nashville Post and his IAYF-hosting duties in the dust and moving on to exciting new opportunities. But don’t worry! He promises to visit from time to time and he was kind enough to record one more episode with co-hosts Michael Gallagher and Megan Seling to take a look at the upcoming hockey season. The first question on the minds of many: What’s up with the goalie situation? Are the Preds all-in on Juuse Saros? Who will be the backup goalie this season, David Rittich or Connor Ingram? When can fans expect to see Iaroslave Askarov? Also: Filip Forsberg and Mattias Ekholm haven’t extended their contracts with the team -- are either of them thinking about jumping ship after all the offseason antics?
| Goodbye, the Boy Boy Calle | 29 Jul 2021 | 01:02:45 | |
It’s been a busy offseason in Smashville. Since the last episode of It’s All Your Fault, the Nashville Predators have traded Ryan Ells, lost Calle Järnkrok in the expansion draft, re-signed Mikael Granlund to a four-year contract and made a whole slew of moves on the first day of free agency. Plus: Prospect Luke Prokop announced he was gay -- he’s the first player to do so while under NHL contract. This week, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling discuss all those headlines and more, including what David Poile means when he says “competitive rebuild.” Also: It looks like Poile didn’t get his way in the expansion draft, as reports suggest he was hoping Seattle would take Matt Duchene -- is he losing his touch? And what the hell were the Montreal Canadiens thinking when they drafted Logan Mailloux?
| Goodbye, Pekka | 15 Jul 2021 | 00:51:49 | |
Beloved goalie Pekka Rinne has officially retired -- will the team lose another big name in next week’s expansion draft? Ka-boom! Did you hear that? That was the sound of the Central Division exploding. In the past week Pekka Rinne retired, the Minnesota Wild bought Ryan Suter and Zach Parise out of their contracts, Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko requested a trade and the Chicago Blackhawks traded Duncan Keith to the Oilers, a move some are saying could result in acquiring Seth Jones. This week, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling talk about what those recent moves mean for the impending expansion draft. Did the Wild get Suter and Parise out of the way so they could protect Matt Dumba? Should the Preds go for Tarasenko if they lose Duchene or Johansen in the draft? Would the Blues dare trade Tarasenko to a Central Division rival? Also discussed: The future of Nashville’s goaltending. Is Juuse Saros ready for a 60-game season? Will David Poile invest in a veteran? Or is Connor Ingram ready to be the backup Nashville needs? Plus: Gallagher has a theory on some of the trade moves Poile might have up his sleeve in an effort to get what he wants out of the expansion draft.

| Goodbye, Arvi | 02 Jul 2021 | 00:57:30 | |
This week, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling sit down for an offseason check-in and discuss some of the headlines making the rounds in Smashville. The good: Nashville will host a Stadium Series game next year! The rumored: Is Viktor Arvidsson on the trade block? (Update: Hours after recording this week’s episode, the Nashville Predators announced that Arvidsson had been traded to the L.A. Kings.) Also discussed: For the upcoming expansion draft, David Poile should save five defensemen and three forwards. But it’s not the three forwards you think it is. Plus: Pekka Rinne hasn’t announced his plans for next season. Might he return?
| Expansion Expectations | 03 Jun 2021 | 01:06:29 | |
With Nashville's season over, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling reflect on what went wrong, what went right and what next season's team might look like. In July the Seattle Kraken get to choose one player from every NHL team in the expansion draft. Teams are allowed to protect a small number of players from being drafted, so who will the Preds save? Will they keep their defensive core together? Or will they focus on the forwards? Also discussed: The Seattle Kraken are expected to announce their head coach by the end of the month. Seling has a few thoughts on who should get the job.
| Predictable Unpredictability | 27 May 2021 | 00:58:17 | |
During last week's episode co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling wondered if the home-ice advantage -- and the notoriously loud Bridgestone crowd -- would give the Preds the spark they needed to defeat the Canes in Games 3 and 4. The answer was heard loud and clear: Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Even back in Carolina for Game 5, the Nashville Predators challenged the Canes with newfound confidence and stamina, purposefully breaking up the pace of the game to make it difficult for the Canes to build momentum. Is this the best the team has played all season? Without a doubt. Can they keep it up for two more games? Also discussed: Does Canes Coach Rod Brind'Amour have the refs wrapped around his finger? Plus: Will Thursday's late 8:30 p.m. start time throw off the players' internal clocks and pre-game rituals?
| Plagued by the Power Play | 21 May 2021 | 01:10:27 | |
On this week's episode, cohosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling recap the team's first two games against the Carolina Hurricanes. What went wrong? Was the lack of producing on the power play the only issue on the ice? Also discussed: When Coach Hynes was asked about the team's performance after Game 2, he got defensive, dodged a question and wondered whether or not the reporters were watching the same game he was watching. Does the franchise have a healthy relationship with the media? Or are they unable to take criticism? Plus: Predictions about Games 3 and 4 -- will an enthusiastic home crowd give the guys the spark they need?
| The Pekka Appreciation Pod | 13 May 2021 | 01:17:02 | |
What's there to talk about this week other than Pekka Rinne's possible retirement? This week cohosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling reminisce on what the goalie has brought to not just the franchise but also the city of Nashville throughout his career with the Predators. They also have a few ideas regarding how to immortalize the man. A statue, of course! Where should it go? What should I look like? Should there be more than one? Also discussed: The team is considered the underdogs going into Round 1 of the playoffs, but Gallagher has some impressive numbers that might make fans rethink the team's chances against Carolina. Plus: This season's superlatives! Who won Best Goal Celebration, the Worth Their Weight in Gold award and Most Underrated? Listen in to find out.
| This Is a Tanner Jeannot Podcast Now | 07 May 2021 | 00:55:47 | |
Tanner Jeannot. That's what this week's episode is about. Tanner Jeannot and his magical ability to send grown men tumbling across the ice. Cohosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling also make time to discuss the Nashville Predators' lack of cohesive identity and what the team needs to do if they hope to make it past Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. (They're going to have to stop relying so much on Juuse Saros, for starters.) Also discussed: Is this team, as it exists now, capable of making a run for the Stanley Cup in the 2021-22 season? Plus: Tanner Jeannot!
| Don't Mess With the Mojo | 29 Apr 2021 | 00:50:11 | |
Wow, OK, so the Preds are really doing this. It's entirely possible that they're going to make the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs. This week, IAYF cohosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling take a look at what needs to happen in the remaining games for the Preds to clinch that fourth spot in the Central Division, as well as how things could shake out in the case of a (very possible) tie with the Dallas Stars. One crucial step: The team must win this Saturday's game against the Dallas Stars. It's squeaky bum time! Also discussed: Is John Hynes playing Juuse Saros too much? That 7-4 loss to the Florida Panthers wasn't the defensemen's fault! And will some teams really have a nine-day break before the playoffs as other teams catch up on games that were postponed due to COVID-19? Plus: Why David Poile shouldn't make a big trade for a star center in the offseason.
| Sweet Carolina | 22 Apr 2021 | 00:56:29 | |
In February, when the Nashville Predators had one of the worst power plays in the league, you would've been hard-pressed to find a fan who truly believed the team could make the playoffs. Oh, what a difference a couple of months -- and an Eeli Tolvanen -- makes! Now, the Preds are battling it out with the Dallas Stars and the Chicago Blackhawks for fourth place in the Central Division, with eight games to go in the shortened season. This week, IAYF co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling discuss how the team got here (hint: it was the young dudes), and what could happen if the Preds make it to the postseason. Also discussed: What does Carolina have that the Preds don't? Could Matt Duchene be happy as a winger? And what should the Preds do with that long-forgotten Smashville pedal tavern? Plus: Gallagher tells you everything you need to know about new Preds signees Tomáš Vomáčka and Marc Del Gaizo.
| For Argument's Sake | 15 Apr 2021 | 01:01:27 | |
Things get a little heated this week as co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Megan Seling and special guest J.R. Lind discuss whether or not David Poile should've made a big move before the trade deadline. Sure, the team has been winning lately, but the start of a season was a much different story! Did recency bias keep him from investing in the franchise's future with draft picks and prospects? Also discussed: Is Tanner Jeannot the next Dustin Byfuglien? And was Poile publicly taunting the players in a recent press conference? Plus: Post-season predictions!
| Special Guest Justin Bradford | 08 Apr 2021 | 00:58:04 | |
It's a very special edition of It's All Your Fault this week as Justin Bradford of Penalty Box Radio joins co-hosts Michael Gallagher and Geert De Lombaerde to talk about all things Preds. Not only is Bradford the editor-in-chief at Penalty Box, but he's also the Commissioner of SECHC Hockey and the author of the book The Making of Smashville. If it's Nashville hockey, Bradford knows all there is to know.

| Don't Mess With a Good Thing | 01 Apr 2021 | 00:59:07 | |
The youth movement, the youth movement, the youth movement. For months IAYF co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling have been begging the Preds coaching staff to trust the youth movement. And now that they finally are, look at what's happening! A six-game winning streak! Eelie Tolvanen scoring game-winning overtime goals and popping up in discussions about the Calder Memorial Trophy. And players insisting they have to "keep the core together" no matter what! But will Hynes and Co. let the young guys, this new "core," keep their much-earned ice time when the more experienced players return from injury? What about if the team makes the playoffs? Will Tolvanen, Alexandre Carrier, Yakov Trenin and Mathieu Olivier still get their chance? Also discussed: Gallagher digs deep into stats to make a case for trading Matt Duchene and Seling mocks hockey players for their terrible musical tastes.
| So Are We Rebuilding or What? | 25 Mar 2021 | 00:59:52 | |
Well, well, well, look what we have here. A winning hockey team! The Nashville Predators have won four of their past five games. Some of the younger guys who've had to step up to fill in for injured players are starting to gel and spirits appear to be high as the teammates joke with one another on and off the ice. It's quite a change from a couple of weeks ago when the playoffs felt impossible and fans were chanting "Fire Hynes" at home games. This week, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling wonder how this recent uptick might impact the franchise's plans to make big moves before the trade deadline or start a much-discussed rebuild in the offseason. And while things are going well now, what will happen to that chemistry when some of the injured players start returning to the game? Also discussed: If Poile had to choose between Ryan Johansen and Matt Duchene, who should stay? Plus: Will referee Tim Peel's hot mic incident cause the league to be more transparent about the officiating?
| Have Preds Fans Given Up? | 18 Mar 2021 | 00:59:05 | |
Earlier this week Michael Gallagher asked, sincerely, "What keeps you watching Preds games?" The answers were interesting. WhileSome folks said they were ride-or-die fans, in it until the bitter end. Others said they tuned in to see what the younger talent can do. This week, Gallagher and his IAYF co-hosts Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling talk about the importance of the team's youth movement. Not only are these rookies holding the team together in the face of a staggering amount of injuries in a disastrous season, but they're also what's keeping the fanbase interested. Trust the youth, John Hynes and David Poile! Also discussed: Some positive news about the team's power play and Calle Jarnkrok the Great. Plus: What a Gritty-inspired romance novel might look like. Ooh la la.
| All the Young Dudes | 04 Mar 2021 | 00:47:17 | |
For weeks, months even, IAYF co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling have been begging the Nashville Predators to put Eeli Tolvanen on the ice and pair him with top-line players like Filip Forsberg. Well, Coach Hynes finally heard them, and look what happened: Tolvanen has three points in five games, two of which are power-play goals. You have to wonder: With the playoffs being a longshot at this point, why won’t the Preds just admit they’re going to rebuild and give their younger guys a chance? Also discussed this week: What kind of return would the Preds get in a Mattias Eckholm deal? And what’ll happen to the team’s goaltending now that Juuse Saros is out with an injury? Plus: Seling has a great marketing suggestion should the team decide to finally embrace the rebuild.
| Do Two Wins Fix Anything? | 25 Feb 2021 | 00:57:21 | |
During the last episode of It's All Your Fault, co-hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling discussed whether or not it was time for the Nashville Predators to rebuild. Fire the coach! Fire the GM! Fire every player! Start over! But then the team started to turn things around, at least a little bit. On Tuesday Pekka Rinna got his 59th shutout of the season and two of the team's four goals happened on the notoriously terrible power play. So are things fixed? Or, at least, in the process of being fixed? Could this momentum be what the team needs to turn things around? Also discussed: Why David Poile shouldn't consider a Filip Forsberg trade and which NHL and AHL coaches could replace John Hynes. Plus: Big dog news in the IAYF world!
| It's EVERYONE'S Fault | 11 Feb 2021 | 01:02:07 | |
Welcome to a very special edition of It's All Your Fault, where hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling literally scream into the mics for 60 minutes. Just kidding, kind of. Not a lot is working out for the Nashville Predators right now so this week's episode asks the question: Is it time for a rebuild? If so, what would that look like? Should the Preds keep promising young guys like Eeli Tolvanen, Rem Pitlick and Alexandre Carrier? And what kind of return would the team get on some of their highest-paid but underperforming players? Also discussed: Why won't John Hynes play Eeli Tolvanen? SERIOUSLY, IT'S GETTING RIDICULOUS. Plus: What went down during that players-only meeting? Was it too little, too late?
| Who Are the Nashville Predators? | 03 Feb 2021 | 00:55:38 | |
There have been a lot of changes within the Nashville Predators franchise over the past year -- there's a new head coach, a handful of promising new forwards and a new starting goalie, for instance -- but nine games into the new season and it looks like the team is still haunted by old problems. Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling take a deeper look at what some of the underlying issues may be. There's a lot of talk about fixing the power play and penalty kill, for instance, but there's been little change compared to past seasons. Is it muscle memory? Sheer stubbornness? Or maybe they have pandemic brain like the rest of us? Also discussed: Tolvanen finally got a spot on the roster and scored his first NHL goal Monday night. Is that enough to keep him on the team and off the Taxi Squad? Plus: Seling weighs in on the very important difference between traditional Reese's peanut butter cups and holiday-shaped Reese's peanut butter treats.
| We Were Number One! | 29 Jan 2021 | 00:46:07 | |
Well, that didn’t last long. When this episode was recorded Thursday morning, the Nashville Predators were (SOMEHOW!?) sitting at the top of the Central Division. Despite that 0-7 loss to Dallas. Now, on Friday, they’re currently tied for second. Still, an impressive feat for a team with one of the worst power plays in the league! Will the team be able to stay on top so long as their special teams continue to underperform? That’s just one topic hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling explore on this week’s episode. Also discussed: Mikael Granlund is proving to be a vital part of the team’s offense -- can you believe they almost let him get away? Plus: How to inspire Ryan Johansen to shoot the puck, and is a David Legwand Hat Trick in our future?
| An Abundance of Caution | 21 Jan 2021 | 00:55:42 | |
Well, it didn’t take long for COVID-19 to further impact Nashville’s 2020-21 hockey season. Tuesday night’s game -- the second in a back-to-back with the Caroline Hurricanes -- was postponed out of “an abundance of caution” after multiple Hurricanes players were moved to the COVID-19 protocol list. There is good news: As of Wednesday afternoon, no one from the Preds has been placed on the protocol list and the team’s Friday game against Dallas is expected to go on as scheduled. So this week hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling take a closer look at the three games the team did get to play. Which new guy has been the most impressive so far? The answer may surprise you! (OK, probably not. It’s Kunin.) Also discussed: Why can’t the Predators figure out their power play? What kind of magical power is hiding in Filip Forsberg’s mustache? And do we need to start a #FreeEeli campaign? Plus: Gallagher’s number of the week will leave fans feeling optimistic about the team’s defensive strategy. | Let's Talk Lines | 13 Jan 2021 | 00:45:36
Get ready, hockey fans, the first Nashville Predators game of what will surely be a very strange season is just hours away -- the Preds face the Blue Jackets on Thursday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. So on this week's episode of It's All Your Fault, Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling ponder one burning question going into the season: Will the team's top scorers ... score? Last season several star players struggled to get the puck in the net on a regular basis. Filip Forsberg scoreless in the month of February aka Filbruary and Matt Duchene racked up just 13 goals in 66 games (he was a 30 goal scorer in 2015-16 with the Colorado Avalanche). Even Viktor Arvidsson hit a slump -- he had just 15 goals in 57 games despite breaking the franchise record with 34 goals in 58 games the season before. What changes will Coach Hynes make this year to avoid a similar fate? Also discussed: How has COVID-19 impacted the NHL so far? Is there room on the roster for Yakov Trenin? Plus: Fans got their Pekka Rinne goalie goal and their Forsberg lacrosse goal last season, so what unusual play is on your wishlist this year?

| Embrace the Chaos | 06 Jan 2021 | 00:50:18 | |
Welcome to 2021, hockey fans, where the NHL season is only 56 games long and the four divisions are split up unlike ever before. Weird! On the first episode of the new year, cohosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling take a closer look at some of the changes the Nashville Predators made during the offseason. The team signed a handful of new guys including Nick Cousins, Mark Borowiecki, Brad Richardson and Erik Haula and parted ways with Austin Watson, Nick Bonino, Craig Smith and Kyle Turris. What will the new blood bring to the ice? And will there be room on the roster for Eeli Tolvanen? Also discussed: What’s a taxi squad? Will coach John Hynes ever get a full training camp with his new team? And what will happen to the two-way contract players like Rem Pitlick and Tyler Lewington now that the Milwaukee Admirals have opted out of the 2021 season? Plus: Predictions! Sure, it’s too early to tell much of anything, but it’s fun to guess the future.
| What's Poile Plannin'? | 14 Oct 2020 | 01:02:52 | |
In the past week or so, the Nashville Predators have traded away Craig Smith, Austin Watson, Nick Bonino, Kyle Turris and Colin Blackwell, moves that left many Preds fans wondering what kind of tricks GM David Poile had hidden up his sleeve. So this week hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling take a closer look at some of the new guys -- Matt Benning, Mark Borowiecki, Luke Kunin, Devin Cooley and Yaroslav Askarov -- and discuss where they fit in the on the roster and what David Poile might have planned. Is he clearing out cap space for a big star? Is this a move to save money during the pandemic, which has caused sports franchises to lose out on millions of dollars in ticket sales and merchandising? Or are the Preds looking for a fresh start with younger, more moldable players? Plus: What does Poile's decision to use his first draft pick on a goalie say about Juuse Saros's future with the franchise? Should the NHL shorten the 20-21 season? And which new guy has the most unique pet?
| Roman Josi Wins the Norris | 24 Sep 2020 | 00:48:00 | |
Roman Josi is a Norris Trophy-winning defenseman! This week hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling celebrate Josi and his much-deserved victory. The voting wasn't even close! Is the NHL finally ready to take Nashville seriously? Also discussed: Mikael Granlund's agent has said the Finnish forward will test free agency. Is this a bluff to try to get David Poile to pay more? Plus: Does the hiring of Dan Hinote mean Ryan Johansen is here to stay? How will Nashville fans greet Peter Laviolette when he returns to town with the Capitals? And, for some reason, Seling sings a Reel Big Fish song.
| Talkin' Prospects and Trade Probabilities | 26 Aug 2020 | 00:56:32 | |
On this week's IAYF, hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling look into their crystal hockey puck and try to predict what the Nashville Predators roster might look like come October ... er, December. When does the season start again? Anyway, there's a whole crop of young Preds prospects itching to get on NHL ice, and general manager David Poile has said it's time to make some changes. Will 2020-21 be Eeli Tolvanen's season to shine? And what could Milwaukee stars like Rem Pitlick, Daniel Carr, Alexandre Carrier and Yakov Trenin bring to the table given the opportunity to play more than a handful of games with the team? Also discussed: Everyone's always talking about who should be traded, but is there a Predator who wants to be sent to a new city? And could Pekka Rinne be happy as the back-up goalie? Plus: Goodbye, Mike Milbury!

Well, it's over. For the first time since the 2013-14 season, the Nashville Predators won't be playing in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. For Preds fans, it is the cherry on top of this otherwise truly awful year. This week hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling unpack the team's performance against the Arizona Coyotes and discuss what moves General Manager David Poile might and should make in the offseason. Will there be a fire sale? Trade and dump 'em all? Or is Poile the one who needs to go? And which players out there should the franchise be making a move for? Taylor Hall? Dustin Byfuglien? Or should they focus instead on the talent waiting in the wings in Milwaukee? Plus: Has Pekka officially passed the torch to Juuse? What kind of player will assumed first round pick Alexis Lafreniere be for the Rangers? And Gallagher gives a rundown of all the prospects the Preds should consider drafting come October.
| Old Habits Die Hard? | 03 Aug 2020 | 00:50:42 | |
Sunday's Preds game was hard to watch. While most players looked strong and refreshed during July's training camp (as well as Thursday's exhibition game against the Dallas Stars) the team appeared to fall back into old habits when it came time for their first game in the post-season qualifying round against the Arizona Coyotes. It went downhill fast, the second Arizona scored early on a lucky bounce, in fact. They racked up penalties and struggled to get their heads back in the game. But Preds hockey is nothing if not a roller coaster. They may have lost 4-3, but they could've lost 4-1! An effort was made in the third period! On this week's episode hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling discuss what went wrong (penalties, penalties and more penalties) and what went right (Filip Forsberg). Plus: Will Coach Hynes put Pekka Rinne in the net for one of this week's back-to-back games? Which player should be getting more time on the ice? Will at least one white NHL player please take a knee? And how are all of our end-of-season predictions looking now, after, you know, a global pandemic?

Last time, on the Nashville Predators hockey show: No one was happy and everything was terrible. Even with a mid-season coaching change the Preds struggled to maintain consistency -- the playoffs were slipping further and further away and the overall mood on the ice got more and more frustrated. And then came the global disaster. But after months of quarantining and questioning the future of all sports everywhere, hockey is back and so are IAYF hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling! Wearing masks, of course. Gallagher attended Preds practices and made the following observations: The players appear to be having fun, Viktor Arvidsson appears to be completely healthy and John Hynes has their full attention and dedication. Also discussed: Will Juuse Saros get the post-season start spot over Pekka Rinne? (Yes.) Which rookie will be sent down to the breakfast buffet first to makes sure Corey Perry isn't lurking around any corners? (McCarron, prolly.) And is there any reason at all why the Preds should save their energy in the series against the Coyotes and instead hope to get that first round draft pick? (NO. NO, THERE IS NOT. STOP SAYING THERE IS.) Let's do that hockey, Smashville!
| Shit-Talking Kevin Fiala | 05 Mar 2020 | 00:53:44 | |
When Kevin FIala was drafted by Nashville in 2014, he was just 17 years old and considered one of the top European prospects. But, while he did have a few impressive streaks, once he got on the ice with the Preds for the 2016-17 season, he struggled to fully live up to expectations. He was traded to the Minnesota Wild for Mikael Granlund in Feb. 2019. Fiala is thriving in Minnesota. He's scored 11 points in the past five games and he has a career-high 51 points so far this season, outproducing everyone on the Preds save for Norris-worthy Roman Josi. This week, hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling discuss how team and coaching changes can positively impact a player. Was Fiala being stifled by Nashville's system? Or was it just timing that he hit his stride and found his confidence? Also discussed: The very kind and generous Chicago Blackhawks (not a typo!), whether or not the Preds are healthy enough for the playoffs (probably not!) and Pekka Rinne's future with the franchise (it's questionable!). Also: If you're looking to do something nice for Nashville's first responders, the folks who were on the front lines after Monday's deadly tornadoes, consider donating your Preds tickets to 7Element (7element.org), the organization that passes donated tickets along to the city's vets and first responders. The trade deadline came and went and, well, not a whole lot happened, actually! For weeks Preds fans and media folks alike have been speculating about the possible plans David Poile had in mind to deepen the Preds’ defense and … the answer is none. In fact, hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling discuss the possibility that the one move he did make maybe made things worse!? Plus: Is Viktor Arvidsson returning to his old ways? Let’s hope so! Can Ryan Ellis fix everything now that he’s back? Let’s hope so! Is John Hynes going to keep up with the Peter Laviolette tradition of always changing up the lines? Let’s hope … not! Because it might be the reason some of the players haven’t been able to click, actually, so maybe it’s time to pick some lines and stick to them, OK Hynes?
| Analytics, Schmanalytics | 20 Feb 2020 | 01:00:26 | |
Nooooo! It was going so well! The Preds won three games in a row for the first time since October — a run that included a home-and-home against reigning Stanley Cup champions the St. Louis Blues — and then on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes, the team bumbled their way through 60 minutes only to lose 4-1. Oof. This week hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling wonder, was Tuesday night's game is a sign that the team is back on their old bullshit? Or has the team started to make lasting changes under John Hynes and that game was just a bump in the road that's (finally) going in the right direction? Also discussed: Analytics. Do they have value? And because the Preds desperately need another defenseman, Gallagher takes a closer look at some of the players David Poile should be considering before Monday's trade deadline. Plus: Viktor Arvidsson is obviously still hurting from an injury. Should he be playing or healing?

Oops, they did it again. Last week the playoffs weren't that far out of reach for the Preds — the team was just a point or two away from slipping into a wildcard slot, with a few games in hand to boot. But thanks to some frustrating calls in Saturday's game against the Oilers and another Barf Bag Game of the Week performance against the Canucks, the Preds have (once again) slipped further back in the standings. Now that we're halfway through February, with fewer than 30 games remaining, hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling wonder: Is the team — and the team's confidence — too far gone to recover? Even with a few players responding positively to the new coaching style — namely Mikael Granlund and Dante Fabbro — the list of issues is still so long. There isn't enough defensive depth, the goal tending is too inconsistent and the top forwards are all under-performing to the point where Hynes has cut their playing time in half. Oof! Also discussed: Pekka Rinne's future with the franchise, the team's surprising goals-against statistic and what moves Hynes and Poile could/should make in the offseason if the Preds don't make the playoffs. (Byfuglien! Get Dustin Byfuglien!)
| OK, he can stay. For now. | 06 Feb 2020 | 00:49:18 | |
OK, Mikael Grandlund, we see you. While the team continues to be plagued with inconsistencies (seriously, it's starting to feel like Groundhog Day over here as the Preds keep struggling with the same issues week after week), hosts Michael Gallagher, Geert De Lombaerde and Megan Seling take a moment to appreciate a silver lining, Mikael Granlund. Not only did he score the game-winning overtime goal against the Jets on Tuesday night, but he also played with more hustle and grit than we've seen from, well, anyone lately. He was getting in front of the net and pestering the goalie like Viktor Arvidsson used to do! Is new coach John Hynes getting through to him? Also discussed: What if Poile made a move for Dustin Byfuglien? The Preds need a powerful defenseman. And Byfuglien is on the outs with the Jets, so surely he'd love to flip 'em the bird as he walks away to join a division rival. There are worse ideas! Plus: Is it time to bring in Preds' prospect Philip Tomasino? Haha, no. Way too early. But the kid has been killing it with the Oshaway Generals in OHL, giving Preds fans something to look forward to in the next couple years.
