We have all heard at one point or another that investing is a good thing. Investing can look many different ways.  You can invest in real estate, stocks, business, etc. When it comes to leadership, what should the leader be investing in? We can all probably think of a list of things we should invest in, but on today's episode I would like to unpack what I believe would be the best ROI. 031 - Refocus30 Jul 202400:17:24

Many things in life affect how we live, but one that hits the top of the list absolutely is the way you think. The way you think can either be life-giving to you or it can send you into a pit of darkness, despair, and self-destruction. In this solo episode I want to bring awareness to the fact that the issue may not be focus, but what you are focused on. Some of us may just need to do a refocusing and pay attention to what is feeding our thoughts. Understanding the long term effects of our thinking, our present habits, and the vision we have for our lives is crucial to living a mindful life.

030 - The Volunteering Factor23 Jul 202400:21:20

I believe that one attribute of a great leader is to serve well. In my 25+ years of intentional leadership I attribute most of my leadership success to volunteering. So join me as we chat and I share with you some of my wins such as learning to stretch, creating new experiences, meeting new people, learning to follow, and learning to lead people that are not motivated by a paycheque.

028 - It's A Win Win09 Jul 202400:17:11

An interesting part about leadership is that it can be good or bad, so just because you are a leader doesn’t mean you are doing it well. Leadership at its best needs to be done on purpose and with intentionality. Not only do people deserve to be led well but if you’re going to maximize your potential, you’ll need to lead well for yourself as well. The truth is, it’s a win-win when the leader leads well! In this episode, we learn the reasons, the benefits, and the wisdom behind being a great leader. We talk about the importance of leading well in the present, leading well tomorrow, and how long term it impacts your legacy. Regardless of where you find yourself, the fact is, leading well matters!

027 - Live from the I Connect Party - A Fireside Chat with Mike Lazenby02 Jul 202400:21:45

This episode was recorded live at the I Connect Party in Edmonton, Alberta.  On this episode I have a fireside chat with Mike Lazenby, a high-level leader.  With 10+ years of minor hockey coaching, 15+ years in high-level leadership roles, he has accumulated great wisdom and insight on how to lead on and off the ice.

In this episode we will tackle:

-the championship mindset and the role that coaching plays into that.

-why winning is not just for athletes.

-the importance of winning at practice and in the locker room first.

-what makes a good leader on and off the ice.

026 - Show Up To Practice25 Jun 202400:16:26

Championships are not only won on the court, and success doesn’t happen overnight.  In fact I believe success happens over time. And what you do over time is how you create championships. What you do before you show up matters and that applies to business, that applies to sports, that applies to any area of your life where you want to experience wins.  In this solo episode I want to bring into the light why showing up to practice is equally as important as showing up to the game. Join me as we learn about how practice makes you better. Championships are won in practice, in training, and in the locker room. Practice creates disciplines. Practice is where belief is built.

025 - Win The Day18 Jun 202400:13:14

Do you ever stop part way through the day and just wish you could have a redo? Or does something ever happen first thing in the morning that just affects the rest of your day? What if you could put some disciplines into your life that could change the trajectory of your day and even better, help you win the day. In this solo episode I want to present to you 2 principles to live by that will help you win the day. First is ending your day on purpose in preparation for the next day. And second, a simple but powerful practice of the no snooze rule. Join me as I unpack these two principles for you and set you up not only to win your day but to have wins in multiple areas of your life.

024 - Ingredients For Success11 Jun 202400:17:06

A secret to success that I have learned is that we don't have to re-create the wheel.  Sometimes we just have to go down proven paths that have worked.  I think that if we look hard enough there are ingredients, roadmaps, game plans, and blueprints that already exist to help us get to where we want to go.  But one thing I'm a huge advocate of is finding people that line up with your values and actually have what you want. Check out this solo episode as I unpack three ingredients that I think will get you started and help you on your journey. We will talk about the importance of having a mentor, someone who has gone before us, the importance of listening, growing, and being a lifelong learner, and finally, actually doing something about it and putting it into action.  If you like the cake don't change the ingredients.

023 - Time In04 Jun 202400:22:23

In this solo episode, I discuss the importance of how you lead in your 'time in' effectively, emphasizing the need for strategic planning, delegation, and setting boundaries. We all plan our time off, but are we also being wise with our 'time in'?! I highlight the impact of overworking on personal and professional life, urging leaders to prioritize rest and balance. This episode serves as a reminder to be mindful of the 'why' behind our actions and to lead with longevity in mind.

In this episode you will learn:   -Effective time management during 'time in' is crucial for long-term success and personal well-being. - Understanding the difference between urgent and important is key to excelling. Let's be productive not just busy.  -Strategic planning and delegation are essential for leaders to avoid burnout and maximize productivity. -Balancing work and rest is vital for maintaining personal and professional longevity. -Understanding the 'why' behind our actions is key to making mindful decisions and leading with purpose.
022 - Relational Inventory28 May 202400:18:28

Leadership can be defined in many ways, but you can't talk about leadership without talking about relationships.  And if we're going to talk about relationships we can't be surface level we have to go deep.  On this episode I want to talk about taking a relational inventory on multiple levels.  We'll unpack the different types of relationships and how we lead in different scenarios.  We need a 360-degree mindset so we can lead those we are responsible for, those that are equal to us, and those that lead us. Relationships matter, and that includes those that are close to us and those that are strangers.  Let's commit to doing all types of relationships well.

021 - Making A Difference With Jamieson Galloway21 May 202401:04:12

I love how age does not determine the level of impact.  In fact one of my favourite parts about chatting with young leaders is their ability to dream and their ability to see solutions and not obstacles.  On this episode I introduce you to Jamieson Galloway who has been making a difference since he was in high school. Now at the age of 23 he continues to navigate different life obstacles while impacting the country of Belize. On this episode we talk about the impact of a missions trip, collaborating with others that have a common vision, advocating for those who can't speak for themselves, and the leadership it takes to inspire others to make an impact in another country.

020 - Make The Plan14 May 202400:19:56

Does planning really work? I think if we look hard enough around us, whether that's school, work, sports, etc., planning has always been a part of the key to succeeding. I believe that if you want to get anywhere on purpose, you will have to do it with a plan.  In this episode I want to give you some mindset on why planning is a key player for anything you want to have in life. Regardless of what you do or what season of life you are in, you can benefit from a plan, whether that's in the form of a budget, a daily planner, a business plan or making a plan for the future, you will find the benefit of having a guide.

017 - Lead from Authenticity with Taya Alexander23 Apr 202401:03:24

My guest this week not only exemplifies these attributes, but will inspire you to unleash the creative in you.

Jared Robinson is an artist, painter, illustrator, author, dad, thinker, doer, and life appreciator. Similar to music, he tries to bring across both aesthetic presence and significance in his art.
