Lost Confidence In Midlife? Listen To This! – With Self Love Expert Lou Featherstone10 Mar 202501:03:32

Ready to join the self love revolution?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In today’s episode of ‘Is It Hot In Here?’ Dr. Naomi Potter is joined by Lou Featherstone – or as she’s better known online, Lu in Luland.

Lou is a podcaster, life coach, and “accidental influencer” on a mission to help as many women as possible to find confidence during midlife.

Lou’s own self-love journey started when she went for a hike up a mountain in the USA. As she reached the summit, she felt “emboldened” and decided to snap a nude photo of herself in all her glory. It’s only now that she looks back at this moment that she realises this was “a cry for help” as “she needed to be seen”. She felt ignored in her marriage, she felt that her life was stagnating as she approached her 50s, and she was desperate for me! Aren’t we all?

You might not relate to the boldest of Lou’s own wakeup call. However, most women watching this will relate to aspects of this story. Of feeling lost within your 40s and 50s. Of trying to find who you are outside of being a wife or a parent or a caregiver. Of feeling that you’re getting older and leaving your confident, sexiest self in the past. Well, it doesn’t have to be like this.

Together, Lou and Naomi will be talking all about how to be the best version of yourself during midlife. Despite all the hormonal changes, menopausal night sweats, and other curveballs life throws our way, there is zero reason why you cannot love yourself and embrace life – no matter your age.

"Their Brains Are Literally Different" – Parenting Teens Alongside Menopause With Lorraine Candy03 Mar 202500:52:43

If you are trying to balance parenting teenagers while experiencing your own hormone rollercoaster, you are not the only one.

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In today’s episode of ‘Is It Hot In Here?’ Dr. Naomi Potter is joined by journalist, author, and podcaster Lorraine Candy.

Lorraine rose through the ranks on Fleet Street to become editor of Elle magazine and Sunday Times Style, but her biggest challenge was parenting four teenage/tweenage children while she was experiencing perimenopause—“It was just so hard.”'

Her insomnia, rage, and brain fog were so extreme that she thought she had a brain tumour that ran up against her children’s hormones, so how did she find a way to keep peace at home?

Naomi and Lorraine discuss what happens when mid-life and adolescence collide and how “medical misogyny” has led to a lack of research into ways to help support women in mid-life and normalises the idea that they are less valuable than they once were. “We have a whole row of greeting cards saying we’re idiots” says Lorraine.

Together, Lorraine and Naomi shed light on how things are gradually improving and what needs to happen next.

Dame Kelly Holmes: "I Hate The Ageing Process"24 Feb 202501:04:23

How did Dame Kelly Holmes go from a world-class runner to unable to do a single press-up?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In today’s episode of ‘Is It Hot In Here?’ Dr. Naomi Potter is joined by one of the UK’s most-loved athletes, two-time Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes.

Kelly talks Dr. Naomi through her hormone journey – starting in the military, where women’s health was not discussed, and as an international athlete suffering from periods so excruciating she would be “crawling off the track” and “carried to the doctor’s.”

She also shares her struggles to accept the change in her body’s performance and, after years of strict medical monitoring in international athletics, why she rejected the idea of taking the hormones so many women rely on in mid-life.

Together, Dr. Naomi Potter and Kelly unpick the ups and downs of Kelly’s career and the resilience that has driven her to achieve greatness and how understanding the medical, physical, and emotional changes has helped her to regain her strength (both mental and physical) and embrace the future.

Will Fertility Issues Affect My Menopause? – Pregnancy Struggles, Shame And Denial27 Apr 202500:41:46

Feeling isolated in midlife? You’re not alone — and today’s guest, Nadia Nagamootoo, knows exactly how that feels.

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

Nadia is a chartered psychologist, CEO of Avenir Consulting Services, and host of the Why Care? podcast. In this episode, she opens up to Dr Naomi Potter about her long, emotional journey with fertility struggles — and how those years shaped not just her 30s, but her experience of perimenopause.

Doctors told Nadia she had a low ovarian count, which resulted in her struggles to conceive. So the question is: do fertility struggles also suggest that Nadia will have menopause struggles? Can the two be connected? Dr. Naomi Potter is here to explain.

Nadia confesses she was “in denial” about hitting perimenopause. Together, she and Naomi explore how hormone changes intersect with mental health, identity, and the weight so many women silently carry.

They also speak candidly about why menopause support needs to be more inclusive. As a South Asian woman, Nadia highlights how healthcare research and treatment often overlooks diverse experiences — and why that has to change.

This episode is for anyone who’s ever felt lonely, misunderstood, or overwhelmed in midlife. It’s a powerful, personal conversation — with practical insights and hope woven throughout.

What Women NEED To Know About Menopause (Before It’s Too Late) – With Lisa Snowdon30 Mar 202500:49:22

With so much medical misdirection, how can women get the help they really need during mid-life?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In today’s episode of Is It Hot In Here? Dr Naomi Potter is joined by UK broadcaster and model Lisa Snowdon.

Lisa’s signs of early menopause were terrifying to her, and missed by medical practitioners failing to recognise the symptoms. It led her on a long, emotionally painful and punishingly expensive journey; she was put on antidepressants and effectively told to suck up aging, she was told she would never have children at a time when she was still considering starting a family, she was treated with a shocking lack of empathy as her symptoms “shape-shifted”.

At the time Lisa didn’t know what she needed, or how to properly advocate for herself. So, if you are hoping to understand your mid-life, and how to better equip yourself for conversations around symptoms, make sure you tune in.

How I Bounced Back From Burnout And Reinvented Myself In Midlife – Rosie Nixon24 Mar 202500:41:05

How can you bounce back from burnout and is it really possible to reinvent yourself mid-menopause?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In today’s episode of Is It Hot In Here? Dr Naomi Potter is joined by the former Editor of Hello! magazine, Rosie Nixon.

Rosie is no stranger to an intense, highly demanding job. While at Hello! Magazine, she was facing press nights every Friday, deadlines against the clock, and covering exclusive stories with A-List celebs. Robbie Williams, the Royal Family, you name it! For a long time she thrived… until she didn’t. In her late 40s “I collapsed on the bed in a pool of tears,” she recalls. “And I just thought: I am done.”

The timing was not a coincidence. Although she didn’t, at the time, recognise the symptoms, Rosie was also experiencing peri-menopause. So how much of this work-related stress was exactly that – and how much was being exacerbated by midlife hormonal turbulence?

Rosie’s journey to psychological, social and professional reinvention is emotional, inspiring and educational. Want to know how you could do the same? This episode is just for you.

Female Biohacker: The Fastest Way To More Energy, No Stress And Living Longer – Davinia Taylor26 May 202500:28:59

How can women thrive in menopause and beyond?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

This week, Dr Naomi Potter is joined by former actress, socialite and now fitness author Davinia Taylor. People may recognise her from her Hollyoaks days, when she was often recognised as a young n fun London partygoer. But now at 47, Davinia Taylor feels more alive than ever – as she enters the world of “bio hacking”.

In today’s episode, Davinia talks about her fears of deteriorating as she progresses through midlife into older age. Her mum and Grandmother both passed away at ages Davinia strives to overtake – as do most of us. So what can we do in terms of our diet, daily routine, and mental outlook to future-proof our bodies?

As Davinia has reached menopausal age, her and Dr. Naomi Potter also discuss the health hacks that women should be aware of – in order to optimise their bodies. From ‘Should I be using testosterone?’ to ‘How safe is HRT?’ to ‘What natural remedies could help with menopause?’ there is plenty to dive into within this topic.

With so much medical insight and life advice to share around not only menopause – but staying healthy in midlife as a whole – this episode is not one for women to miss.

Today on Is It Hot In Here? Podcast, Dr. Noami Potter is joined by BBC presenter and journalist Naga Munchetty. In this powerful, emotional conversation, Naga reveals the decades she spent living with debilitating periods. The pain was so bad that she was regularly passing out, throwing up, and “bleeding half my life”. It took 32 years for Naga to be finally given an adenomyosis diagnosis.

But why so long? And why can so many women relate to this story?

In this conversation, Naga and Naomi talk about the need to better support women’s health – and how Naga’s own experiences will affect her in the next chapter of her life: menopause.

In this episode, Naga opens up about:

💥 Being dismissed and misdiagnosed by doctors

💥 The pain and trauma of coil fittings

💥 Why women's pain is so often minimised

💥 Her journey into perimenopause and finding the right HRT

💥 The fight to change NHS guidance on women’s health

💥 How to advocate for yourself and speak to your Doctor

If you’ve ever felt ignored, belittled, or frustrated by the system when it comes to your health, then this listen will be an hour well and truly spent.

Where Are All The Midlife Women?! TV Icon Sally Lindsay Speaks Out14 Jul 202500:40:06

Why do women over 40 disappear from our screens?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

This week, Dr Naomi Potter is joined by actress, writer, and producer Sally Lindsay to unpack why midlife women — and their real experiences with menopause, motherhood, and ageing — are still invisible in TV and film.

You might know Sally best from her role as Michelle in The Royle Family, or Shelley Unwin in Coronation Street, or even Piella Bakewell in Wallace and Gromit! But most recently, she's been starring, writing and producing the Madame Blanc Mysteries, in which Sally plays antique dealer Jean White. Sally talks about how important this job is to her – how she's putting midlife women in the limelight – and how women can bring far more to the table both on camera and behind the scenes compared to men.

This is an empowering, funny, and honest conversation reminding us that women in midlife deserve to be seen — and heard.

Parenting Expert: Why New Mums Need To Rethink Motherhood – Zoe Blaskey21 Jul 202500:30:33

We're looking about parenting all wrong in today's world – and you're about to find out why.

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

This week, we're doing something a bit different and opening up a conversation about something that often overlaps with menopause, and we're seeing more and more of our audience talking about... motherhood!

We know that more and more women in the western world are parenting later in life, which means raising a family is often colliding with the oncoming storm of perimenopause / hormonal turbulence. So what's the secret to coping?!

Let's hear from the expert.

This week, Dr Naomi Potter is joined by parenting specialist, coach, and podcaster Zoe Blaskey to explore the hidden pressures mothers face during midlife and why so many women feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and guilty.

Zoe introduces us to the concept of matrescence – the psychological and physical transition into motherhood – and explains why this stage of life needs the same awareness and support as menopause. Together, they discuss practical ways to protect your energy, manage your mindset, and parent with more compassion towards yourself, even on the toughest days.

If you’re a busy, burnt-out mum wondering, “Is it just me?”, this conversation will leave you feeling seen and supported.

Everyone Said I Was Bipolar, But It Was ACTUALLY Menopause – Cally Beaton Finally Speaks Out28 Jul 202500:47:26

How can perimenopause be mistaken for bipolar disorder?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In this episode, Dr Naomi Potter talks to comedian, writer and speaker Cally Beaton about how she was wrongly diagnosed with bipolar disorder when she was actually perimenopausal — a misdiagnosis that happens in more cases than you might realise.

Cally also shares how she reinvented herself in midlife to become a stand-up comedian, how she's struggling to access the HRT she needs, and gets advice from Dr Naomi Potter on how to beat those menopause-induced nighttime surges of anxiety.

This is an eye-opening conversation full of laughter, information, and great advice for midlife women.

How Your Own Trauma Impacts Menopause – Child Therapist Kate Silverton Explains11 Aug 202500:49:18

How can past trauma crop lead to burn out, menopausal problems, and other health issues later in life?

🤝 Get your own personalised menopause support from Dr Naomi Potter and her team: https://www.menopausecare.co.uk/what-to-expect-ihih

In this episode, Dr Naomi Potter talks to former BBC News presenter turned child therapist Kate Silverton. She opens up about her own menopause journey; in her 20s, Kate had a life threatening health issue that led to the removal of her left ovary. Years later, the faced a full hysterectomy which plunged her into medically induced menopause overnight.

As this experience unfolded, Kate learnt the importance of not 'grinning and bearing' our way through menopause, but recognising the mental load that comes with it and the need to ask for help.

But we aren't just focussing on Kate's own experience today. We're shedding light on a fascinating study that Kate brings to the table. Together, the pair unpick the link between past trauma and burnout in midlife, how unresolved childhood experiences can resurface during menopause, and the crucial role therapy can play in building resilience.

Warm, wise, and full of honest truths, we hope you all enjoy this conversation.

The book Scared Sick: The Role of Childhood Trauma in Adult Disease by Robin Karr-Morse and Meredith Wiley explores how early life stress and trauma—especially in infancy and early childhood—can lead to long-term dysregulation of the nervous, immune, and endocrine systems.

Key Conclusion Related to Women in Their Forties:

The authors highlight that many women in their 40s begin to experience immune-related illnesses (like autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, or inflammatory conditions) that seem to appear “out of nowhere.” However, Scared Sick argues that these conditions are often the long-delayed effects of unresolved early trauma or chronic stress.
