05 - The Inception AI Podcast Factory02 Oct 202500:14:34
The Irish Marketing Podcast powered by IMJ and Tinpot Productions

We talk to journalist, editor, broadcaster and host of the For Tech’s Sake podcast Elaine Burke  about a story that has been causing a stir in podcasting circles.

Inception Point AI  are an AI company co-founded by Jeanine Wright who has been driving a lot of coverage around their podcasting concept. The company's plan is produce podcasts en masse, up to 3000 episodes per week costing as little as a dollar each to produce.

This story encapsulates some of the emerging issues around creativity, content and technology and how tolerant audiences might be for generative content farmed material.

Is this a disruptive model for future media monetization or simply an idea devised by a savvy CEO designed to generate headlines and VC investment?

38 - Markgo - Big Marketing for Small Businesses28 May 202600:15:03
What happens when experienced advertising executives get tired of watching small businesses throw money at marketing that simply doesn't work?

They build something new.

In this episode, Daryl sits down with the founders of Markgo — a fresh venture brought to life by the team at Hyphen Strategy and seasoned media industry veteran Peter McPartlin.

They spoke about how years of working with SMEs revealed a painful truth: most small and mid-sized businesses are trapped in a cycle of 'random acts of marketing' — busy on social media, hiring influencers, sponsoring events — but with no strategy, no clear objective, and no results to show for it.

14 - Fever Pitch - The Problems With Pitching Part 0105 Dec 202500:17:06
On today's pod, we have something special for you. Pitching is a topic that has universal interest across the industry and is an ongoing endeavour that touches all parts of the agency ecosystem from junior account execs, art directors through creative, finance, strategy and senior management.
Pitching is the lifeblood of every agencies business but the stats tell a shocking story.
  • Only 5% of pitched work gets produced
  • The average agency annual pitching spend is circa €1 million
  • Agencies are spending upwards of 15 % of income and 50 % of labour hours on pitching
On todays podcast, we’re speaking to former agency head and current pitch consultant Ray Sheerin who it’s fair to say has many thoughts on the topic.

We spoke to Ray about
  • the background and numbers behind todays pitching industry
  • his thoughts and experience dealing with pitches from agency, brand and client sides
  • why the people in the room are the problem when it comes to procuerment.
  • the dreaded and omnipotent "blended rate"
  • his favourite Chemistry pitch memory
And many other points points beside, so much so that this will be two parter. You’ll hear part one on this ep with part two to follow in a future pod

35 - Paul Dervan: The Essential Guide to AI For Marketers07 May 202600:36:56
What separates the marketers who will thrive in an AI world from those who won't?

According to Paul Dervan, founder of Run with Foxes, it comes down to whether you're a fox or a hedgehog. Drawing on Philip Tetlock's Superforecasters research, Paul explains why the ability to draw on multiple perspectives, stay curious, and adapt your thinking is more valuable than ever — and why clinging to process-heavy skills is a liability.

In this conversation, Paul shares how he went deep on AI during his time at Miro, what he discovered about the behaviours of people who use AI most effectively, and how he now helps marketing and sales teams redesign the way they work. He also walks through practical examples, including a custom research agent he built to automate information gathering, so he can spend less time on the work about the work and more time making good decisions.

Paul gave his take on the fundamental skillset that makes you valuable in an AI world  We spoke about Paul’s team of AI agents Clara, Jo and Nate, about creating systems for writing and ad generation, the benefits of sceptical optimism and how Paul’s second book is progressing.

Worth a listen if you want to get practical about AI rather than just anxious about it.

34 - Exclusive: Inside the New Bord Gáis Energy Campaign30 Apr 202600:13:22
What does it take to cut through one of the most competitive sponsorship categories in Irish sport? On this week's Irish Marketing Podcast, we go behind the scenes of the brand new Bord Gáis Energy GAA campaign — before it even officially launches. Host Daryl sits down with director Ben Tonge and Bord Gáis Energy's Director of Marketing, Meadhbh Quinn to explore how this fresh, humour-driven campaign came to life.

We hear why the team deliberately walked away from the emotional 'commitment to your county' playbook that dominates GAA advertising, and how they brought the Two Johnnies and Lee Chin together in a way that feels genuinely different. Ben opens up about his comedy roots — from directing the Ted Lasso trailer to running a brilliantly chaotic live cabaret night called Shamn Bodie, cooking hot dogs on stage while hosting five acts — and explains how those live performance instincts shape everything he does on set.

33 - Mark Shanley And The Art of Unique Creative Direction23 Apr 202600:17:38
What does it actually take to make advertising that people love rather than skip?

In this episode, we sit down with one of the most decorated creative directors in the industry — Mark Shanley Executive Creative Director at adam&eve\TBWA someone who grew up playing in ad agency art departments and went on to win countless industry accolades.

We dig into the unglamorous reality behind award-winning work: the grind of generating a hundred ideas to find one good one, the steep learning curve of stepping into creative leadership with no real training, and why giving your team explicit permission to fail might be the most powerful thing a creative director can do.

We also go behind the scenes of the iconic Nothing Beats a Londoner Nike campaign — a 16-month production involving 250 real Londoners alongside some of the biggest names in sport and music — and explore what made it possible when so many ambitious projects collapse under their own weight.
