Johnny and Derek just so happened to both be in Buenos Aires at the same time so they had to do an episode together! We split this into two halves, the first being just hours after Derek landed and then we pick up 2 weeks later when both had time to explore and reflect on the city. They go over the value of every day living in Buenos Aires - food, drink, housing, transportation and more. Plus they cover some of the downsides of the economy and this area of the World.

204: "The Lifestyle Investor" Justin Donald18 Nov 202101:12:18

Entrepreneur Magazine calls Justin Donald the “Warren Buffett of Lifestyle Investing.” He’s a master of low-risk cash flow investing, specializing in simplifying complex financial strategies, structuring deals, and disciplined investment systems that consistently produce profitable results. His ethos is to “create wealth without creating a job.”

In the span of 21 months, and before his 37th birthday, Justin’s investments drove enough passive income for both he and his wife Jennifer to leave their jobs. Following his simple investment system and 10 Commandments of Lifestyle Investing, Justin negotiated deals with over 100 companies, multiplied his net worth to over eight figures, and maintained a family-centric lifestyle in less than 2 years. Just 2 years later, he doubled his net worth again.

He now consults and advises entrepreneurs, executives, and successful media personalities on lifestyle investing. Justin has also appeared on nearly 100 podcasts, including Entrepreneurs on Fire, The Mike Dillard Show, Making Bank, Achieve Your Goals, Capability Amplifier, Tractionville, Inside Personal Growth, Conscious Millionaire, Franchise Secrets, the Accelerated Investor, and Unbecoming.

Justin is a lifelong leader and trainer with a track record of achievement. In his 20s, he worked with Cutco/Vector and quickly became one of the top managers in the company, and one of the youngest to achieve Hall of Fame status. His personal playbook of best practices was deployed nationwide as a training program to onboard sales representatives.

203: Venture Capital Fund Access for All with Sweater Ventures CEO Jesse Randall11 Nov 202101:21:22

CEO and Co-Founder Jesse Randall is a fintech startup executive and venture capitalist helping to usher in the new era of generational wealth creation for everyday people. His roots in small farm life in rural America as part of a very large family gave him a unique foundational work ethic and view of the world. He has come to understand that he would rather imagine the world as it can become rather than settle for the shortcomings that surround us everywhere. Anything is possible with the right mindset, people, and resources at hand. Outside of work, he enjoys endurance sports such as Ironman races, cycling, and marathons, and wouldn’t trade his life with his sweetheart and five children for any amount of treasure.

Sweater is hell-bent on leveling the playing field and reinventing venture capital to reach its maximum potential. That starts by creating a venture capital fund that anyone can invest in.

Sweater’s vision is to pool money from millions of regular people into a world-class venture fund, wisely deploying that capital into startups that shape the world we live in.

Every founder should be able to build their vision, and every person should be able to support the startups that create the next generation of influence and wealth.

201: Investing in Co-Living with Homeroom CEO Johnny Wolff28 Oct 202101:06:40

Johnny FD interviews Homeroom CEO Johnny Wolff about co-living both as a tenant and potential investor. Then Johnny & Derek share their roommate stories, investing in Homeroom, and exploring creating your own co-living investment property.

Johnny Wolff is the CEO and Founder of HomeRoom Coliving – one of the fastest growing coliving companies in the United States. After starting his career as a financial analyst in Silicon Valley (EA, SanDisk, Guidespark), he relocated to Austin, Texas to pursue real estate investing fulltime. His love for real estate investing and living with roommates motivated him to start HomeRoom in 2017, after an unusually terrible Craigslist roommate experience. In 2020, HomeRoom boasted 99% on-time rent payments, full occupancy, and zero evictions. Sales velocity for HomeRoom is up 300% in 2021 with hundreds of happy residents across 23 cities in 3 states. Powered by investor funds, HomeRoom recently expanded to Dallas and Austin, Texas. Johnny still lives in one of HomeRoom’s first coliving houses in Kansas City, and enjoys hanging out and surviving the pandemic with his awesome roommates - especially on chicken wing Thursdays.

199: Co-Owning a Luxury Second Home with Pacaso CEO Austin Allison14 Oct 202101:14:18

In this episode, Derek interviews Pacaso CEO Austin Allison about owning shares of luxury vacation homes and how it all works. Then Derek and Johnny catch up and give their thoughts on second home co-ownership. This is more a lifestyle play than a pure investment, but we can see where this would be a great option for many people.

Pacaso is Austin’s second startup. In 2009, he founded dotloop in his hometown of Cincinnati, a company that created software to seamlessly manage real estate transactions. Zillow acquired dotloop in 2015, and Austin continued to run dotloop as a Zillow executive until 2018. Enjoy this interesting conversation on flying, drugs and trading options! Afterwards, Sam & Derek opine on why they haven't dug into options trading until just now thanks to a nudge from Buckley.
About Matthew 'Whiz' Buckley: Decorated F/A-18 Hornet fighter pilot, TOPGUN Graduate, and Wall Street CEO. He’s taking his experience going supersonic and applying it to Options Trading.

193: Nick Ringling Quit His Six-Figure Job After Discovering Land Flipping on ILAB!02 Sep 202100:51:31

Nick Ringling is the Co-Owner of Vacant Land Club. Nick spent the last decade working in the Industrial Sales space, most recently selling Electrical Supplies and Electrical Engineering Solutions. Three years ago he first heard of vacant land investing through Invest Like a Boss, and took massive action. Since then Nick has left his cushy sales job to buy and sell vacant land full time. So far in 2021, Nick's team is on pace to buy and sell roughly 150 properties, with an average ROI of about 400%. Every one of which was never seen in person prior to purchase. Vacant Land Club brings value to land sellers by offering them quick cash for properties that they no longer see value in. They offer value to buyers by offering easy owner financing that they wouldn’t typically be able to secure from a financial institution. Vacant Land Club is growing and scaling very quickly with potential investment opportunities on the horizon for investors looking for a way to invest passively.

192: Buy Shares of High End Art with Masterworks CEO Scott Lynn26 Aug 202101:09:07

Masterworks CEO Scott Lynn returns to Invest Like a Boss after appearing on the show for Episode 146 in June 2020. A lot has changed since then and Masterworks has grown tremendously. Scott talks with Derek to give an overview of the market and how the platform has performed since. Then Sam joins in with Derek to discuss investing in art and possible disruptions (Digital art, NFTs, etc) coming to the market.

Scott Lynn is the Founder and CEO of Masterworks.io. He Founded Masterworks in 2017 after realizing that art had better risk-adjusted returns than other asset classes, but the only way to invest is if someone has millions of dollars to buy a painting, or tens of millions of dollars to build a portfolio.

Scott has been an active collector of contemporary art for more than fifteen years and has built an internationally-recognized collection of Abstract Expressionism that has included works by Clyfford Still, Barnett Newman, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, and more. In addition to Masterworks, Mr. Lynn serves on the board of v2 ventures (Adparlor, Giant Media, Reachmobi, Amply, and Sellozo), Payability, and the Brooklyn Rail (a non-profit publication in the art industry).

191: Costa Rican Tourism Bonds with Richard Bexon19 Aug 202100:49:01

Johnny interviews Richard Bexon from Costa Rica Tourism Bonds to find out about this investment in the Central American country which not only allows you to earn a return on your money, but also provides accommodations and the chance at Costa Rican residency. Richard has lived in Costa Rica since 2004. He's the co-owner of Central America's largest luxury travel agency and has vast experience in real estate investments, both commercial and private. Sam hops on with Johnny before and after the interview to talk about this investment.

About Costa Rica Tourism Bonds:

It goes without saying that a company offering investments has a strong focus on financial returns, but it doesn't end there. Costa Rica Tourism Bonds places a high value on lifestyle, responsibility, and sustainability. This means we only work with properties that hold these values in equally high regard.

We started Costa Rica Tourism Bonds as we saw strong demand for an investment vehicle that both generated returns and provided a lifestyle benefit, whereby investors could enjoy the fruits of their investment by enjoying luxury vacations in the properties they invested in.  Where better to invest in than one of the most beautiful and biodiverse places on the planet, Costa Rica.

This is coupled with the eagerness of tourism properties in Costa Rica to diversify their investor base and share the benefits of investing in one of the world's most vibrant travel destinations with international bondholders.

It's a match made in heaven for investors that value a lifestyle investment that can be enjoyed by themselves and their family.

Richard has lived in Costa Rica since 2004. He's the co-owner of Central America's largest luxury travel agency and has vast experience in real estate investments, both commercial and private.

185: Market Vulnerability Analysis with Roger Khoury, CEO of Market Forecasting Academy08 Jul 202100:56:48

Roger Khoury is an expert in the field of Market Forecasting, with over two decades of experience.

In 2010, he developed an innovative probability-based form of price forecasting, called Market Vulnerability Analysis™ (or MVA™), to overcome an inherent flaw he had discovered in most trading systems and strategies, which is the root cause of large drawdowns and inconsistent results.

This form of analysis enables its user to uniquely reduce the downside risks in the market, without sacrificing the upside performance potential.

After successfully deploying his proprietary analysis and forecasting methodology to reach his own goals, people began to inquire about his accomplishments.

In 2011, Roger brought on partners, Bo Yoder and Dr. Jared Goldstine to help establish a training curriculum and mentoring program, in order to address those interests, which they offered through their firm RBJ Financial Group.

Based on the success of this venture and the insights gained from mentoring dozens of students, Roger was inspired to create an exclusive community, with a more formalized learning environment.

In 2019 Roger launched the Market Forecasting Academy to accomplish his vision for educating and mentoring active market participants on acquiring the skill of accurate and objective Financial Market Forecasting.

181: Alternative Food Investing with Very Good Foods CEO Mitchell Scott27 May 202100:54:43

Our mission is lofty, badass but beautifully simple:

Get millions to rethink their food choices while helping them do the world a world of good.

By offering plant-based food options so delicious and nutritious, we’re helping this kind of diet become the norm.

When you have a simple goal, it’s hard to mess it up: create damn good food, and well, keep it simple.

Unlike most plant-based alternatives out there, we don’t overcomplicate things. We go hard on taste, texture, protein and then call it a day. In return, you get all the benefits you had before, plus the extra feels of doing a s****tload of good for yourself, your planet and your furry friends. No brainer or what?

Plant-fuelled veteran or plant-curious rookie—it doesn’t matter. You’ll find our products put the fun back in functional, as we never compromise on taste or nutrition. And that goes for feeding fussy families or fuelling fitness-freaks. Geez, that’s a load of F’s! So, if you replace an animal-derived product with one of ours, you’d better be getting all the nutrients and the satisfaction from it. Otherwise, what’s the point, right?

Our method relies on complex scientific algorithms… said no one ever at Very Good Food Co. Yup, we do things a little differently. And that comes down to real people trusting their taste buds, Buds. Rather than petri-dish processes. In fact, our roots as a restaurant mean we’re foodies at heart. So you’ll find our R&D team mostly in test kitchens, finding creative and innovative ways to make the healthiest food possible, while challenging our out-dated reliance on animal products once and for all.

Very Good Food Company is traded on the Canadian Stock Exchange (ticker: VERY) & in the United States on the OTCQB market (ticker: VRYYF)

292: Using A.I. To Manage Traffic with Parquery CEO Andrea Fossati14 Mar 202400:49:16

There's a lot of buzz around A.I. and what the future holds... but what about its potential to change today's problems? All of us deal with traffic in our cars and there are A.I. systems already in place around the World helping to solve this issue. One such company is Switzerland based Parquery. Johnny speaks with CEO & Co-Founder Andrea Fossati to find out how they're able to help better control the flow of traffic both at intersections and in parking management. Then Johnny and Derek reflect on the good and bad traffic systems they've encountered around the world and how they'd execute Parquery's technology to optimize profitability.
About Andrea Fossati: Andrea Fossati co-founded Parquery in 2014 as a spin-off from ETHZ (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Zurich) and is currently its CEO. Parquery launched the first video-based Smart Parking Project in 2015 and is currently running 100+ Smart Parking and Mobility projects worldwide. Andrea Fossati received a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2005 and a Master of Science from the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2006. 174: Buying Your Own Private Island with Farhad Vladi11 Mar 202100:40:37

Few people can withstand the longing for their own private piece of land in the midst of vast oceans or an idyllic lake, far from the rush and confinement of the rest of the world. Even though it is of manageable size an island feels infinite - the water creates a natural boundary that provides island dwellers with a freedom not found in any piece of real estate on the mainland.

Yet it is the mainland that gives islands their special character. The luxury of a private island consists of the freedom to escape into solitude and to return from it at any time - therefore, even the smallest island with a simple log cabin is of immense value to its owner.

lt is a great and very moving privilege to observe the passing of the season on one's own island. Even after spending many years on their islands, many island owners have described to me how overwhelmed they felt by the beauty and power of nature - and the composure they have learned from it: on an island, everything takes place at nature's own slow pace. Those who respect this pace are richly awarded as they contribute to the maintenance of their island universe. Islands have cast their spell on me in my childhood, a spell that has not been broken to this day. On March 14, 1971 I sold my first island: Cousine Island in the Seychelles. To this date, the number of islands I have sold has reached 2,000. During these four decades, I had the opportunity to meet island owners with the most varying personalities. Regardless of their profession or social status, they all have one thing in common - they are all extreme individualists with great perseverance when it comes to carrying out their personal endeavours.

Today’s island owners do not have to struggle with infrastructure issues anymore. State-of-the-art systems to generate electricity and to purify water, the most comfortable ready-built houses, good technical tools for setting up road systems, as well as electronic communicating facilitate the development of the new isle. Once this whole process is completed, the owner usually has built up strong emotional ties to the land.

This remains today's actual major obstacle on the way to purchasing an island - islands are rare, regardless of their location in a lake, a river or the sea.

An island that has been carefully and lovingly reclaimed often feels to its owner like part of the family. Parting company with it is accordingly extremely difficult. This phenomenon can be described in other words: an island does not have a house number. An island has a soul.

168: Drew Bledsoe, from Pro Football to Wine Estates26 Jan 202101:04:47

Upon his retirement from the NFL in 2007, Drew Bledsoe "doubled back" to his hometown of Walla Walla, Washington to realize a long held dream. Drew and his Wife, Maura, purchased a piece of property on the southern edge of the Walla Walla Valley AVA and subsequently launched Doubleback as an estate focused winery with the goal of crafting America's best Cabernet Sauvignon in an elegant, true to varietal way. Drew had long been planning for this moment during his years playing football and success came immediately as the very first vintage earned a spot in Wine Spectator's Top 100 List.

Drew hired Josh McDaniels, now CEO & Director of Winemaking, away from Figgins Family Wine Estates where he had trained for almost a decade under their longtime mentor and friend, Chris Figgins. Josh, also a Walla Walla native, has been named a "Washington Prodigy" and a "Game Changer of Washington Wine" by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. The collaboration between Drew and Josh is a competitive partnership that pushes them to continue the pursuit of perfection in Cabernet Sauvignon every day.

Doubleback remains a small, family owned winery located on the southern edge of Walla Walla in its new home that was completed in 2018. The winery has four estate vineyards all located in the Walla Walla Valley and all unique to the other. Each vineyard is sustainably certified and farmed by its own incredible farming crew that is an integral part of the team. The team welcomes it's mailing list customers by appointment only daily.

291: Stem Cell Therapy and Alternative Healthcare29 Feb 202401:22:26

This episode may not be a financial investment for your wealth, but one for your health - which is arguably even more important! After Sam tried stem cell therapy for the first time on his knee, we decided to have an expert on the show to talk about this exciting alternative to traditional healthcare. Ryan Alling is the Co-Founder of Luxury Stem Cells, which specializes in catering to American patients and provided various stem cell treatments at their clinic just over the border in Tijuana, Mexico. Ryan and Sam talk about the many benefits of stem cells and struggles to bring them to the mainstream in the United States. Then, Johnny jumps in with Sam to talk about their personal experiences with stem cells and whether they'd want to try them in the future.

163: Should You Buy the Airbnb IPO? With Forbes' Tom Taulli08 Dec 202001:08:08

Tom Taulli has been in the tech industry for some time. While in the eighth grade, his dad bought him a computer and just left it on his desk. So he started to figure it out. And yes, he became obsessed with this machine. Then when he was a freshman in high school, he started to code and sold some of his programs to magazines (in the early 1980s, these publications had listings of code for readers to type in!) From all this, he knew he wanted to be a part of the tech world.

Although, it was not until college that he started his first business. You see, he was fairly bad at taking exams. What to do? Well, he created software for exam preparation. He would sell this to a national provider of bar exam preparation. The business would then go on to grow, as they added more and more exams.

But the biggest venture of his was launched in 1997. It was Hypermart.net. Think of it as kind of a first-generation Shopify. From the start, the growth was strong and they would sell the company to InfoSpace.com.

In the meantime, he has always been writing, such as for Forbes.com, Bloomberg.com, Kiplinger and BusinessWeek. He has also written a variety of books, mostly on tech and finance. His latest include Artificial Intelligence Basics: A Non-Technical Introduction and The Robotic Process Automation Handbook: A Guide to Implementing RPA Systems.

As of now, he is an advisor to some awesome startups.
