Steve March-Tormé and Michael Murphy return to Into The Music to introduce you to the title character of their new album, Dalton Diamond. This is an album just over four decades in the making having originated in a West Los Angeles bedroom as the idea of Steve along with his friend, Craig Copeland. In the mid 1980s, nine of the album's were written by Steve and Craig and two additional songs that round out the narrative were written forty years later by Steve and Michael. The feel of the album harkens back to the 1970s southern California country rock of the Eagles, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, and The Flying Burrito Brothers to name a handful of Dalton's influences. This episode serves as a preview of the album and Steve and Michael throw in a live performance for good measure. Enjoy! It becomes an understanding of the foundations of blues music and its traditions (Delta, Chicago, Texas, British, etc.). Whether any number of guitarists (T-bone Walker to Jeff Beck to Derek Trucks) or other instrumentalists (harmonica players like Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, and Paul Butterfield), the rich traditions of the blues continue to grow and flourish. Michael Grabner is back on the show with a brilliant brand new single called "Off The Path." Michael is an open book and through his music he conveys his life's journey complete with highs and lows. His performances echo this and, because of the intimacy of a live show, give even deeper meaning to his songs. "Off The Path" is stripped down and heavy both in feel and subject matter, but it's a fantastic song and shows a ton of growth in this outstanding singer-songwriter. The Gentlemen Grifters are Shaun Swanson and Mike Goodwin, two guys that like to share a good story through a song. As their bio for the Mile Of Music festival says, their “songs are often tongue-in-cheek portraits of criminals, gamblers, addicts, and drifters.” Think of their songs as short stories and folk tales set to some of the sweetest acoustic music you'll hear. | NATURAL SATELLITE and SON REIS PROJECT: Two sides of sax player Jason Reisdorf | 12 Feb 2025 | 00:49:55 | |
Jason Reisdorf is a brilliant musician. One listen to his two bands, Natural Satellite and Son Reis Project, bears this out. Natural Satellite is a duo with his wife, Karli, who is a cellist and vocalist. They write and perform laid back, jazzy originals that are creative and introspective. Then there's Son Reis Project (SRP), a trio with Jason Goessl on guitar/bass and Ryan Thomas on drums. SRP has both jazz and heavy metal as its foundations and from there it's an experiment in sound that is indescribable. But with Jason as the constant between the two, one thing that's for certain is that both will be interesting. Listen to this episode and find out for yourself. "It Goes On And On" performed by Fryman Project (ft. Natural Satellite) "Gratitude" performed by Natural Satellite "Kaleidescope," "Robbin' The Cave," and "Up Nort'" performed by Son Reis Project Visit Into The Music at https://intothemusicpodcast.com!
