In this playful episode of The Insomnia Project, hosts Marco and Amanda explore a mix of cozy conversations and quirky debates — with plenty of mentions of products and companies that are most definitely not sponsors of the show.

Amanda’s Coffee Journey

Amanda shares her ever-evolving relationship with coffee and recounts a spirited debate she had with a surly waiter.

🦀 Crabs, Lobsters & “Specialty Tests”

The hosts muse about why Amanda should never be quizzed on her area of so-called expertise: crabs and lobsters.

🍇 Wine & Grapes

Marco talks about experimenting with wine and the challenges (and delights) of working with Concord grapes.

🍓 Jam Session

Amanda shares her most recent foray into jam-making, with all the triumphs and sticky pitfalls along the way.

Throughout the conversation, the duo repeatedly highlight companies, products, and items that are not sponsors — but maybe should be!

Napkins17 Aug 202200:25:06

🌙 To Fold or Not to Fold? A Napkin Conversation

Looking for a calm podcast to help you relax, unwind, and gently fall asleep? In this soothing episode of The Insomnia Project, the hosts turn their attention to one of the most humble and hardworking items at the table — the napkin.

Marco explores the subtle art of napkin folding, describing three classic techniques in slow and careful detail: the fan fold, the “roll up and go” fold, and the dependable rectangle fold. What begins as a simple conversation about table settings gradually expands into a quiet exploration of the many roles napkins play in everyday life.

Along the way, the discussion drifts briefly into the world of towel art before circling back to napkin rings, paper napkins, and the small decisions we make when setting a table. As always on The Insomnia Project, the conversation is intentionally gentle, mildly curious, and pleasantly mundane — perfect for listeners who enjoy calm voices and simple topics that help quiet a busy mind.

If you're looking for a relaxing sleep podcast or a calming conversation to help ease insomnia and guide you toward rest, this episode offers a soft distraction that may just help you drift off before the final fold.

The Wooden Deck22 Jun 202200:26:55

🌙 Staining the Deck & The Yard vs. Garden Debate

Looking for a calm podcast to help you relax, unwind, and gently fall asleep? In this soothing episode of The Insomnia Project, Marco and Amanda settle into a quiet conversation about the surprisingly detailed process of staining a backyard deck.

What begins as a simple home project turns into a pleasantly mundane exploration of brushes, rollers, and the mysterious staining tool that looks suspiciously like a broom. Together they try to remember what the tool is actually called while walking through the slow, methodical steps of staining the deck — the kind of everyday task that becomes oddly relaxing when described in full detail.

Along the way, Marco and Amanda also wander into a gentle debate about the space behind their home. Is it a yard? Is it a garden? Or perhaps something in between? Their thoughtful pondering turns the ordinary into something quietly amusing.

Amanda also shares a small but charming story about picking up a birthday cake for Nidhi, adding another simple moment of daily life to the conversation.

If you enjoy calm podcasts, relaxing conversations, or sleep podcasts designed to ease racing thoughts and help with insomnia, this episode offers the perfect soft distraction. Follow along loosely — or drift off before the end.

Hi Boomer, Staining Decks & Thrift Treasures14 May 202500:26:31

In this episode of The Insomnia Project, a relaxing sleep podcast for insomnia, Marco and Amanda drift into a calm and gently wandering conversation that begins with a surprisingly peaceful topic: staining a deck. Marco walks listeners through the quiet, methodical process—from preparation to the final brushstrokes—turning a simple home project into a soothing reflection on patience, routine, and the satisfaction of small accomplishments.

As the conversation meanders, Amanda shares highlights from a recent thrifting adventure, describing a few unexpected treasures she discovered along the way. The episode settles into the familiar rhythm listeners love—curious observations about everyday experiences and the small details that quietly shape our days.

Things take a playful turn when a trivia question goes slightly sideways, giving birth to a new running gag: “Hi Boomer!”—a perfectly imperfect trivia moment that becomes a source of gentle laughter. Amanda also shares her dream of one day joining a bar trivia team, and the episode winds down with a cozy reflection on the surprisingly luxurious lining of Marco’s leather jacket.

Loonies, Blooms & Ancestry01 May 202500:51:17

The Insomnia Project – Episode: Loonies, Blooms & Ancestry

Welcome to a double episode of The Insomnia Project! Since we missed last week, today’s show is extra-long—perfect for those who need a little more time to drift off.

Join your hosts Marco and Amanda as they ease you into relaxation with a calming conversation about some charming Canadian shortcut sayings, including the iconic “Loonie” and “Toonie.” From there, they delve into the subtle (and soothing) difference between a canteen and a cafeteria—yes, they are different, and yes, we’re going there.

As the flowers start to bloom, so too does one of our favourite themes—nature. We revisit poetry, a recurring and gentle thread on the show, and explore Amanda’s ancestry in a way that’s thoughtful, quiet, and curiosity-driven.

All this and much more, softly delivered to help guide you into rest.

Sweet dreams.

In this episode of The Insomnia Project, a relaxing sleep podcast for insomnia, Marco and Amanda drift into a nostalgic conversation that begins in the bright lights of Las Vegas and slowly meanders through memories, television history, and small-town babysitting fame. What starts as a reflection on time spent in Las Vegas leads the hosts toward the familiar excitement of The Price is Right, and from there into the curious cultural moment known as “jumping the shark.”

The Norway Maple27 Oct 202100:29:00

THE INSOMNIA PROJECT - The Norway Maple Episode

All roads don’t always begin with The Norway Maple but that is the tree that took us to many others. Along the way there was a detour to Manitoba and Ottawa and some points between. There was plenty to be said on lumberjacks and arborists who work in the city. From there we compared our favourite colours and how many blues are in the shade that Amanda’s mom associates with her and Marco brings his current favourite scarf pattern and colours to the table.

Sneak-peek:

Tattoos & Birds Part I06 Oct 202100:33:54

Tattoos, Birds, and Stories with Nima Kharazi – Part I

We welcome back friend of the show Nima Kharazi, host of the podcast My Gastric Sleeve, for a calm and curious conversation that begins with tattoos and gently drifts into birds and personal stories. The ink is barely dry on this episode as Marco and Nima explore tattoo experiences, meaningful symbolism, and the unexpected moments that come with body art.

The journey begins with a tattoo experience Nima had that didn’t quite go according to plan — a story that leads to reflections on patience, artistry, and the importance of choosing the right tattoo artist. Along the way, we also learn about what Nima calls his “Persian flaw”, and the conversation gradually spreads its wings into the world of birds.

Nima explains why several of his upcoming tattoos will feature birds, sharing how different species represent members of his family. The discussion unfolds in the relaxed and meandering style listeners have come to expect from The Insomnia Project, making it a perfect companion for winding down or drifting toward sleep.

This is the first of a two-part episode, so there’s more calm conversation still to come.

And as always, if you don’t make it to the end because you fall asleep — we consider that the highest compliment. 🌙🕊️

  • Why you should never sit in an impatient tattoo artist’s chair
  • A revisit of why peonies became the official flower of The Insomnia Project
  • The next tattoo Nima plans to get on his wrist in four days (10/10 at 10 AM)

Pool Noodles, Sunglasses, and Fruit Trees10 Apr 202500:27:33

On today’s gentle journey of conversation, Marco and Amanda begin with Amanda’s recent Aquafit class experience. From the splash of exercise to the curious world of pool noodles, they dive into unexpected comparisons—are pool noodles the candy of the pool? That question leads them, as it often does, down a serene conversational path toward sunglasses.

Marco reminisces about a memorable pair of sunglasses he lost and the duo reflect on the curious habit of wearing sunglasses at night, even touching on a certain familiar song lyric. And just when you think you know where things are headed, the discussion blossoms into a talk about fruit trees. How exactly does that transition happen? You’ll have to listen to find out.

Settle in, relax, and let the conversation drift you gently to sleep.
