Mastermind: Sir Ian McGeechan

Episode 37

mercredi 4 août 2021Duration 41:12

As the 2021 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa builds to a tense finale, I reflect on some key insights from a conversation I had with Sir Ian McGeechan, the former Scotland and Lions player and coach. The Lions are a great metaphor for any organisation where former rivals now need to work together in a cohesive team. Their values, leadership and culture are an inspiration to us all.

Having toured with the British & Irish Lions in both 1974 and 1977, and being the British & Irish Lions head coach in 1989, 1993, 1997 and 2009 – Sir Ian McGeechan is one of the world’s most respected coaches. Tune in to find out more about implementing shared values, selecting the right management team, fostering team spirit, his ‘yellow card system’ – and mastering the basics.

England Football – Euro Reflections

Episode 36

mercredi 21 juillet 2021Duration 40:39

There’s no doubt that sport brings people together. But after the Euro 2020 final, it was disheartening to see the online racist abuse by some individuals after England lost in the penalty shoot out. After the game, I reflected on how the England team handled this backlash and how their leadership and culture is a great metaphor for how we can lead our own teams.

In this episode Gareth Southgate shares his own story of how he recovered from his missed penalty in Euro 96. We also hear from Head of Women’s football at the FA Baroness Sue Campbell, performance coach Owen Eastwood, and business psychologist Jo Kandola. We explore togetherness, the power of storytelling, the Māori ‘Whakapapa’ philosophy, and making time to reflect from setbacks and successes.

We’re your performance partners to strengthen your mindset and leadership.
