John Doney serves as President & CEO of the Arizona Pops and General Manager of Symphony Arlington and has 17 years of professional experience in the performing arts. He has served as Executive Director of the Abilene Philharmonic Association and various leadership roles in The Florida Orchestra, Cape Symphony, and the U.S. Army Bands.

John is married to Angela, an accomplished educator and his best friend. Together they have a son, Calvin. John loves to spend time with his family, travel to historic sites, discover new music, and watch sports and documentary films.

Taylor Massey is in demand in the southeast region as principal clarinet with Augusta Symphony Orchestra and performances with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, and Savannah Philharmonic. Outside of the southeast, he has served as principal clarinet of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta and New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players. In addition to orchestral performances, he has been a featured soloist with Augusta Symphony Orchestra on multiple occasions, Savannah River Winds, Carolina Youth Symphony, and Augusta University Wind Ensemble.

Dr. Massey is currently on faculty at Brevard College and Western Carolina University.  He has served as clarinet instructor at the University of Georgia, Augusta University, Georgia Southern University, and Claflin University. His principal instructors have been Steven Cohen, Russell Dagon, Ronald de Kant, and Alan Kay. He has received bass clarinet instruction from Ronald Aufmann of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and J. Lawrie Bloom of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Massey earned a bachelor’s degree from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, master’s degree from Northwestern University, and doctorate from Stony Brook University.

Additional Notes-  On Stanley Drucker: “I heard quite a few NYPhil concerts when he was playing and always was impressed by how his personality could emerge in a solo passage and dominate, lead the orchestra, as if he were conducting. Especially true of passages with rhythmic vitality, like Shost 1. He once grabbed my Eb clarinet out of my hands, in the course a lesson on Symphonie Fantastique, and said, ‘Give that to me; I played it with Bruno Walter.’ Not sure if he spoke the semi-colon, but what has stayed with me: impeccable quarter/eighth triplet rhythm, very rapid and clean and identical trills, and absolute confidence, all on my horn.”
