Emilia Nieminen, Designer of Inamorata dolls and Emilia Couture

mercredi 12 août 2020Duration 59:22

www.inthedollworld.com    Emilia shares with us a wonderful and sometimes challenging entrpreneurial journey on her road to being an amazing couture doll artist.  Her tenacity has led to creating a living for herself creating dolls which is what most creatives and artists long to do. From selling her drawings in school to get pocket change to learning the skills of sculpting from her time being an art model which gave her a very discerning eye for sculpting and creating Inamorata dolls and Emilia Couture. Her journey is a fascinating look into an amazing artist who also shares her fascinating and unique details she adds to bring her dolls to life.

She started collecting and repainting dolls in 2006 and the hobby soon gained a life of its own. In 2009 I won an international CDDC (Couture Doll Design Challenge), a contest in designing doll fashions and got my first two features in American doll magazines. It made me believe that the hobby could turn into a career.

In 2010 Emilia began developing her own doll, and slowly hand sculpting it from wax for two years. In 2012 the first Inamorata doll was unveiled at the IDEX doll convention and the doll was awarded DOLLS magazine Award of Excellence in 2013. She feels very honored and  grateful for being able to make a living doing what I love all these years.

Paulette Goodreau, Pioneer of the American BJD

mercredi 15 juillet 2020Duration 35:10

www.inthedollworld.com    A delightful interview with Paulette Goodreau.  She shares her story on how she and her sister Annette became the pioneers of the American BJD (Ball Jointed Dolls). Talks about her mom, who she used to often accompany to doll shows was the catalyst for many of her doll creations.  She also tell us the surprising and unusual company where she produced her first doll.  You won't believe what they produced there before  Paulette's dolls and how she introduced a whole new product line to that company.

In 2012, Paulette stopped manufacturing dolls full time  and became an art doll maker. Since then, Paulette has created very limited lines of anthropomorphic dolls.

Paulette's dolls were also featured in the music video for the song Tea Party. The song was performed by the Estonian singer, Kerli, and was created for Tim Burton's concept album Almost Alice. The album was based upon Burton's movie, Alice in Wonderland

Paulette's most recent doll endeavors tend to involve Connie Lowe. If you are interested buying one of Paulette's dolls, check out Connie Lowe's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/connie.lowe.7798
