We chat about her journey, the trials and tribulations, and how she transformed her business (and mindset) to prioritize well-being and impact. 3. Target Audience Insights: AI can review a list of podcast topics and provide insights into whether they would appeal to your target audience.

Episode 124: The Human Touch: Essential Ingredient in AI-Curated Content17 Aug 202300:29:22

Send us a text

Ever wondered about the intriguing intersection of AI and content creation? Join me and the remarkable David Forman as we explore this dynamic domain. David, a seasoned digital marketer, brings a wealth of knowledge to our discussion, sharing his experiences of how Chat GPT can amplify your efficiency and effectiveness in content creation. But remember, it’s not a magic bullet. The quality of the output is directly proportional to the input. We emphasize the need to add your own perspective and wisdom to truly unlock the potential of this tool.

Key Points:

  1. AI as a Tool in Content Creation (01:08 - 02:34)
    • David views AI, specifically ChatGPT, as a valuable tool in the content creation process. While it can't solve all problems or write every piece of content, it can be a helpful assistant, especially for solo entrepreneurs or those needing a second opinion.
  2. The Importance of Human Interaction in AI (02:47 - 03:11)
    • Kendra and David agree that AI needs human interaction to be effective. It can help increase efficiency and effectiveness to a point, but it's only as good as the input it's given.
  3. AI and SEO (06:49 - 07:37)
    • David discusses the potential impact of AI-generated content on SEO. He emphasizes that while AI can generate knowledgeable content, it may not necessarily contribute to a website's authority or trustworthiness, which are crucial for SEO.
  4. The Role of AI in Website Building and Content Creation (11:33 - 14:13)
    • David warns against over-reliance on AI for website building and content creation. While AI can provide a good start, it's important to personalize and individualize the content to truly represent the business.
  5. Leveraging AI and Overcoming Objections (17:59 - 22:23)
    • Kendra and David discuss common objections to using AI, including concerns about it not sounding like the user or not adding value. They argue that these objections often stem from a misunderstanding of AI's capabilities and purpose.
  6. The Importance of Testing and Progress Over Perfection (26:35 - 28:23)
    • David's greatest marketing lesson is the importance of testing and not waiting for perfection. He encourages listeners to put out their 'minimum viable product' and then tweak and improve it based on feedback and results.

Episode 111: Brief- Solving the issue of time in marketing04 Jul 202300:07:13

Send us a text

Welcome back to Imperfect Marketing with your host, Kendra Corman, your personal marketing coach. In today's episode, we address a common dilemma faced by many marketers - "not enough time." Kendra shares effective strategies to help you regain control over your time and become a more efficient marketer.

What to expect from this episode:

  • Prioritize: You can't do it all, and that's perfectly okay. Rank your tasks by importance and urgency, and tackle the top priorities first. Quality over quantity is the golden rule for effective marketing.
  • Automate: Leverage the power of technology to automate parts of your marketing strategy. Tools like Metricool for social media scheduling, Constant Contact and ConvertKit for email marketing, and CapShow for podcasting can help you save valuable time.
  • Delegate: If you have a team, use it. If not, consider outsourcing. Tasks that don't require your unique expertise should be delegated to free up time for high-value tasks that only you can do. Tools like Upwork can help you find freelancers to support your needs.
  • Batching: Group similar tasks together and do them all at once. Batching improves efficiency and can save you a lot of time. Kendra provides some real-world insights into her own batching strategy, including recording multiple podcast episodes in one go.
  • Setting Boundaries: Work tends to expand to fill the time available for it. Guard your time fiercely, learn to say no, and ensure you're taking regular breaks. Your well-being is important, and better care of yourself means better creativity and energy in your work.

These five strategies - prioritize, automate, delegate, batch, and set boundaries - can help you overcome the 'not enough time' hurdle that so many marketers face. Remember, it's not about doing more; it's about working smarter.

Kendra encourages you to reach out with your own marketing strategies and would appreciate your support by rating and subscribing wherever you're listening or commenting if you're watching on YouTube.

Stay tuned for more Imperfect Marketing Briefs that guide you to become a smarter, more efficient marketer. Until then, stay efficient, stay focused, and stay amazing.

Episode 101: Why should I care what my target does on weekends?30 May 202300:04:36

Send us a text

Welcome back, folks, to another episode of Imperfect Marketing! Today, we're rolling up our sleeves to answer a question that might have you scratching your head: Do you need to know what your target audience is up to on the weekends? And if so, why? Hold onto your hats as we take a deep dive into this intriguing topic.

In this episode, we'll discuss:

  • Understanding your target's weekend activities: Why should you care about your target audience's off-duty activities, especially if you're a business-to-business service provider? Simply put, it can inform where and when to advertise, helping you streamline your efforts for maximum impact. Whether they're working, seeking opportunities to grow their business, unplugging completely, or spending time at family or community events, knowing their weekend habits can be a game-changer for your marketing strategy.
  • Supporting shared interests: By understanding your audience's weekend activities, you can discover mutual interests or causes, which can lead to unique opportunities for engagement. For instance, if they are participating in community service events, you could support, host, or sponsor a similar event.
  • Building relationships: Asking about your clients' weekends isn't creepy—it's a relationship builder. It helps you learn more about them, which is key in marketing. Understanding your audience on a deeper level can lead to more effective and authentic communication.

Episode 100: Milestone Episode: Top Marketing Insights from 100 Shows of Imperfect Marketing26 May 202300:16:33

Send us a text

Welcome to the Imperfect Marketing 100th episode celebration! Today, we're highlighting key marketing lessons from previous episodes. Let's dive in!

We've all had our fair share of marketing mishaps, haven't we? Our first guest recalls a Facebook campaign that didn't go as planned, despite partnering with a colleague and investing a significant amount of money. It was a tough lesson, but it taught us the importance of starting with small projects to build trust and long-term relationships with clients. Remember, it's often easier to deepen existing client relationships than constantly chase after new ones.

The world of marketing is constantly evolving, and with each passing day, we have the opportunity to learn something new. One guest shares their golden rule: "Right now is better than perfect." It's a reminder to prioritize sharing your story, connecting with your audience, and embracing imperfection over striving for unattainable perfection. Trust me, authenticity and timely action can do wonders for your marketing efforts.

Knowing your target audience is key to your marketing success. Another guest emphasizes the importance of finding your niche and being crystal clear about who you're serving. They discovered that by focusing on a specific group—online business owners in their case—their business took off. So, take a moment to define your ideal audience and tailor your messaging to speak directly to them.

Sometimes, it's tempting to chase after the latest trends or try to emulate what successful marketers are doing. However, one guest shares a valuable lesson they learned about staying true to their brand and marketing their own way. It's essential to resist the allure of imitation and focus on showcasing your unique qualities and perspectives. Remember, the best marketing comes from being authentic and embracing who you truly are.

Setting expectations is crucial, especially when you're starting a new business or working with clients. One guest learned this lesson firsthand and discovered the power of confidently communicating timelines and deliverables. By being clear about what to expect from the beginning, you can avoid misunderstandings and build trust with your clients.

Patience and consistency—the Wonder Twins of business success—are virtues that every marketer should embrace. Building a thriving business takes time, and it's crucial to stay persistent in your efforts. One guest shares their experience, highlighting the importance of consistent production over seeking perfection. Remember, progress is better than perfection, and putting out imperfect content consistently is far more valuable than waiting for the perfect moment.

Lastly, we can't forget the essence of marketing—being imperfect. Marketing isn't a science that can be replicated perfectly. It's an art that requires creativity and the willingness to take risks. So, don't be afraid to embrace imperfection and showcase your unique self. As our host, Gary, says, "Imperfect is what marketing is all about."

Thank you for joining us on this special 100th-episode celebration of the Imperfect Marketing podcast. Your support means the world to us, and we're grateful to have you on this journey. Stay tuned for more exciting episodes as we continue to explore the dynamic world of marketing

Episode 99: Brief on How long is a downloadable good for?23 May 202300:03:25

Send us a text

Go ahead and leave your downloadables up forever.

Why not?

If you have one that is outdated because it was all about COVID talked about the pandemic and the shutdown in the landing page, it's okay. As long as nothing is misleading and someone would know exactly what they were getting if they signed up for it, it isn't hurting anything.

If someone magically found that landing page, what does it matter?

Last week in my Imperfect Marketing Brief I spoke about the importance of spring cleaning your website and keeping track of that content.

Say you have a resources page or an “everything” page where you put all your downloadables and resources to share with the world.

At some point, like now, the COVID one isn’t relevant and should be removed from the page. That doesn’t mean we need to take down the landing page. If someone goes scrolling through your Facebook or LinkedIn history they could find the landing page and now it will still come up.

There isn’t a need to take down or discontinue your downloadables if you don’t want to.

Now, if you update one, feel free to update it with new screen captures or videos or whatever has changed, but it isn’t the end of the world if someone finds that landing page and signs up for your emails.

What do you think?

Episode 97- Brief: Spring Cleaning Your Website Content16 May 202300:05:53

Send us a text

Start a once a month Website Wednesday or Maintenance Monday for yourself and schedule the 2nd Monday or Wednesday of the month as your maintenance day. I try not to do the first week of the month or the last week of the month because I feel that there is always a lot of other things that go on depending on your industry.

I usually do a Pomodoro. Work for 25 minutes and have a 5 minute break. One 30 minute meeting. It’s perfect.

Pick one day to set up your tracker…

I would add a tracker in Excel or Google Sheets and just have 3 columns:

1.       Date

2.       Page and links to check

3.       Completed? Y/N

There are a few ways you can add  your pages, but I would add your main pages from your navigation in a list. You can always do more than one page if you want, but this way you have them all on the schedule.

Think about the length of time your content is good for if you have external links because that will factor into your updating process.

Things happen all the time to your website and we just forget all the places there are links and other pages.

Schedule a pomodoro, just 30 minutes a month and go through your site to make sure you are giving everyone a quality experience on your site.

Episode 95- Brief on Google and its Review Update09 May 202300:09:24

Send us a text

Just in April, Google released a review update for products, services and things.

They also provided tips on How to write reviews so that shoppers can find those reviews in Search.

Here is the link to Google’s writeup if you want to read it yourself: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/specialty/ecommerce/write-high-quality-reviews

So… what are the best practices that Google is pushing?

1.       Evaluate from a user’s perspective

2.       Demonstrate that you are knowledgeable about what you are reviewing- show you are an expert

3.       Provide evidence such as visuals, audio, or other links of your own experience with what you are reviewing, to support your expertise and reinforce the authenticity of your review.

4.       Share quantitative measurements about how something measures up in various categories of performance.

5.       Explain what sets something apart from its competitors.

6.       Cover comparable things to consider, or explain which might be best for certain uses or circumstances.

7.       Discuss the benefits and drawbacks of something, based on your own original research.

8.       Describe how a product has evolved from previous models or releases to provide improvements, address issues, or otherwise help users in making a purchase decision.

9.       Focus on the most important decision-making factors, based on your experience or expertise (for example, a car review might determine that fuel economy and safety are key decision-making factors and rate performance in those areas).

10.   Describe key choices in how a product has been designed and their effect on the users beyond what the manufacturer says.

11.   Include links to other useful resources (your own or from other sites) to help a reader make a decision.

12.   Consider including links to multiple sellers to give the reader the option to purchase from their merchant of choice.

13.   When recommending something as the best overall or the best for a certain purpose, include why you consider it the best, with first-hand supporting evidence.

14.   Ensure there is enough useful content in your ranked lists for them to stand on their own, even if you choose to write separate in-depth single reviews.

Finally, they say to focus on the quality and originality of your reviews, not the length. It’s all about value and that should be your view on everything in the world of marketing.
