Let's draw a firetruck with all the lights and gadgets 12 Aug 202600:13:40

Today I want to draw a firetruck. We'll draw a big one with a place for the drivers, a place for gauges, and the big long back for the hose, the extra compartments, and the ladder. Of course we'll add flashing lights on top. We'll also talk about how emergency signals like sirens and alarms can be loud--but they're there to help us.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. Why do firefighters have to learn so much to be ready to fight fires?
  2. Are you the type of artist you likes to draw very accurately, very abstractly, or both?
  3. How can you make sure your family is prepared during an emergency?

If you like this one and want to try more fire safety, try drawing a firefighter. Or maybe your artist wants to draw more trucks? How about the monster trucks jumping from a ramp.

If this episode wasn't your style, how about a fancy princess? Or a yellow submarine floating by an octopus's garden.

Let's draw a giant ice cream sundae 04 Aug 202600:12:08

Today I want to draw a big giant crazy ice cream sundae. We'll start with a fancy dish, then add classic toppings like a banana. chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and of course, your artist choice of any toppings you can think of. Drawing sprinkles reminded me of the famous pointillism artwork of Georges Seurat, so I talked a bit about his work and his artist choice to use dots. I'll show you a picture of his most famous painting on my blog.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. Ice cream is sooo good. Why can’t we eat it for breakfast and lunch and dinner?
  2. We talked about doing art with dots only- what’s your fav artist choice you’ve ever made?
  3. Who would you want to share a sundae with?

Wanna draw more fun foods? Try ants carrying snacks away from a picnic or a wacky pizza.

Not into drawing food stuff? How about a yellow submarine floating by an octopuses garden or a cowboy riding a horse.

Let's draw two crabby crabs crab-walking on the beach30 Jul 202600:13:13

Today I want to draw 2 crabby crabs crab-walking on the beach. We'll draw some ocean waves, and 2 crabs with very grumpy faces. This will be filled with a few crab facts, as well tips on how to rescue ourselves from crabby feelings. We'll talk a little bit about taking a deep breath when we feel crabby. And we'll talk about where crabs take deep breaths--under water AND on land!

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. Why do we call grumpy people crabby?
  2. What if you had claws instead of hands--how would you do things differently?
  3. When you feel crabby, what do you like to do to calm yourself down or cheer yourself up?

Today I want to draw sharks! We'll draw a Great White Shark with many sharp teeth, a Basking Shark with a giant open mouth, and a Hammer Head Shark down at the bottom of the ocean where he likes to hunt his prey. There are a lot of shark facts in this one! Most sharks are greyish blue, but an artist can make them any color they want--because there's no wrong way to do art.

  1. Why are there so many different types of sharks?

Today I want to draw a rock star rocking out with their guitar. They'll have rock star hair, of course--it's your artist choice to decide what that looks like. We'll spend some time getting the details of the guitar just right, and then we will design our own crazy rock star outfits.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. If you’re drawing along with me, you’re an artist. What other art are you curious about?
  2. Why do musicians sometimes dress to match the music they’re making?
  3. Musicians like to make up songs -- can you make up a song?

Wanna draw more humans doing cool things? Try drawing a baseball player up to bat, or a magician pulling a rabbit from a hat.

Let's draw a sandcastle with things we found at the beach21 Jul 202600:13:06

Today I want to draw a sandcastle and decorate it with pieces of nature that we found at the beach. We'll draw a sand castle with three main parts, one made from a bucket, one made from a cup, and one made from hands only. We'll add sticks, shells, seaweed, and a straw to decorate.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. When you’re low on building supplies or toys, what can you use instead?
  2. Why do we have to pick up all of our trash from the beach every time?
  3. What would it be like to live in a sand castle?

Let's draw ants carrying snacks away from a picnic16 Jul 202600:12:21

Today I want to draw ants carrying snacks away from a picnic. We'll draw 3 ants marching in a line across a picnic blanket. Each ant will have a different food on their back: a watermelon slice, a cookie, and your artist's choice.

This episode shows how practicing might help you feel more confident in your drawings, since we draw 3 ants the same way, with a head, a thorax, an abdomen and 6 legs.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. We talked about how ants have 2 stomachs - what would you do with 2 stomachs?
  2. Why do ants like picnics so much? Do they like them more than you?
  3. Why do ants march in a straight line?

Here are three ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. What makes a town a wonderful place to live?
  2. Think about where you live…where did the name of your city or town come from?
  3. If you could do one thing to make your town or city a better place- what would it be? Can you do it?

Let's draw a lemonade stand (and remember to stay cool during this heatwave!)09 Jul 202600:11:16

Today I want to draw a lemonade stand. We'll draw a big table with a banner. Our table will have a pitcher and a bowl of lemons and some extra bonus fruits. Today's episode is inspired by the ongoing heat that many of us are facing across the globe. Remember to take breaks from the sun and sip lots of water!

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. If you could add an extra special ingredient to your lemonade what would it be?
  2. What can you do to keep yourself cool during a heatwave?
  3. Why do you think lemons taste sour but lemonade tastes sweet?

Let's draw a collage of good luck charms from across the world07 Jul 202600:12:48

Today I want to draw a collage of classic good luck charms from across the world. I'll show you how to draw them and I'll tell you who feels good luck from them. We'll draw a horse shoe, a four leaf clover, a hamsa, and a waving, beckoning cat. These are all good luck symbols from Europe, the Americas, Japan, and countries across the Middle East.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. We drew a few lucky items today-- what’s lucky to you? Did we draw it?
  2. Why do different cultures have different lucky charms? Why do they have similar good luck charms?
  3. Think of a time you felt lucky… What made it feel lucky?

Let's draw fireworks over a picnic blanket02 Jul 202600:11:57

Today I want to draw fireworks over a picnic blanket to celebrate the Fourth of July. We'll draw a picnic blanket and I'll show you how to draw people from behind as they sit down and look up at the sky. We'll also draw some classic American snacks. And of course, we'll draw a sky full of colorful fireworks.

We also talk about how even though fireworks are beautiful and fun, sometimes fireworks can be startling to us, to dogs, and even to veterans--but they won't hurt us.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. We talked about hotdogs, bluejeans, and fireworks feeling like “American” things. What makes something “American?”
  2. Independence Day is about America declaring freedom. What makes a country a free country for everyone who lives there?

Let's draw a cowboy riding a horse30 Jun 202600:13:40

Today I want to draw a cowboy riding a horse. This was an artist submitted idea! Thank you so much, Emi :)

We’ll draw a horse of course, and a cowboy wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. We'll also give our cowboy a lasso so he can wrangle his cattle. In this episode we'll try a technique of noticing which parts of the picture to draw first so that your cowboy looks like he's on top of his horse.

Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. If cowboys are riding horses, why are they called cowboys?
  2. Cowboys love their horses, do you think horses love their cowboys?
  3. If you be like a cowboy or cowgirl and could ride a horse anywhere, where would you go? What if your horse was invisible?

We'll draw a yellow submarine in the ocean with windows. a periscope, and a captain. On the bottom of our under water song scene, we'll draw an octopus tending her garden.

We'll talk about how The Beatles are artists used their imaginations to come up with songs.

  2. The Beatles had some fun ideas for songs, where do you think they got their ideas?
  3. Have you ever made up a song? What would you want to sing about?

Let's draw a giraffe munching on leaves from a tree16 Jun 202600:11:34

Today I want to draw giraffes munching on leaves in a tree. Today's episode is extra special because it's the first time an artist has sent in an idea! Special thank you to artist Addy who came up with this idea.

Today's picture will have big trees with lots of leaves, a tall giraffe with spots, and a few fun giraffe facts.

Does your resident artist have an idea? Send it over to https://www.imaginationdrawalong.com/contact-us

  2. So many animals are different sizes and shapes - why are giraffes so tall?

Let's draw friendly aliens landing their spaceship 04 Jun 202600:12:18

Today I want to draw a cool spaceship landing on earth, with two friendly aliens. Since I've never personally seen a spaceship or an alien, we will be using extra imagination to add details to a giant spaceship--in today's case flying saucer style. Then we will create 2 very wacky looking creatures who are visiting earth. We will also draw signs that these aliens have visited before!

🧠 Here are 3 ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our drawing today:

  1. Our aliens learned a lot about earth. What would you want to teach an alien?
  2. Do you think humans and aliens have a lot in common or not much?

Let's draw a monarch butterfly's metamorphosis26 May 202600:11:57

Today I want to draw a monarch butterfly's metamorphosis. We'll fold our paper into four sections. In each section, we'll draw a part of the metamorphosis. This picture will have an egg laid on a milkweed plant, a caterpillar, a chrysalis, and finally a monarch butterfly. I'll let you know which colors appear in nature, but if you don't want to use those colors, that's your artist's choice.

Imagination Draw Along is an intentionally calm space for artists to develop confidence in their decisions making skills by making artistic choices. It's a safe space because there is no wrong way to do art.

Here are the three ideas your imagination can wonder about based on our picture:

  1. When larva pupates, or becomes a butterfly in the chrysalis, what do you think is happening in there?
  2. What stage of metamorphosis do you think would be the most fun: being an safe egg? being a hungry caterpillar? being a changing chrysalis? or being a flying butterfly?
  3. Larva eat milkweed leaves to grow big and strong. What foods make you feel big and strong?

Today I want to draw a chicken crossing the road. This drawing is based on one of my favorite jokes, which I can't wait to tell you!

We'll draw a chicken, a road, a chicken coop, and a basket of eggs that the farmer collected.

Here are 3 things your imagination can wonder about based on your drawing:

  1. Can you think of other reasons for the chicken to cross the road?
  2. How can you help the chicken cross the road safely?
  3. Can you think of a funny joke all by yourself?

Let's draw a before and after picture of cleaned up pollution [Happy Earth Day!]23 Apr 202600:16:13
