Chapter four — After showing Princess Rosamond how to care for the little cottage, the Wise Woman left it in her young guest’s care — something the young Princess felt was a trick from the cunning ogress! “The king’s kitchen” — after waiting for the house to quiet down for the night, Curdie and Lina set off exploring and were surprised with the state in which they found things.

“The wine cellar” — Curdie and Lina, after a small struggle to open the door, found themselves in the cellar of the King’s palace. Now the question was, how to carry on with their mission unnoticed?

“The mattock” — while trapped in the dungeon, Curdie passed the hours with thoughts of home, when suddenly there came the loud noise of an intruder.

“Derba and Barbara” — the old lady and her granddaughter showed Curdie and Lina kindness, which was greatly contrasted by what met them in the morning.

“The dogs of Gwentystorm” — as Curdie and Lina made their way deeper into the city, they attracted the attention of a group of angry dogs, but nothing prepared them for what came after the dogs.

“The baker’s wife” — Curdie and Lina finish their last stretch of the journey before making it to the great city of Gwentystorm. Met by many unfriendly faces, they find kindness at the hand of the baker’s wife.

“More creatures” — As Curdie and Lina made their way through a thick forest, they encountered some of the most wild and uncommon creatures to be imagined.

“Lina” — the creature that lay at Curdie’s feet was none other than the ugly thing he had met with the old Princess. He remembered, however, that the true hands of this creature were those of a child, and so he let her stay as they faced the strange night ahead of them.

“The Heath” — Curdie’s journey takes him through hills, villages and deep into barren lands where he met something terrible and unexpected.

“Hands” — Curdie tells his mother and father about his mission from the old princess, but will they believe his newly gifted ability?

“Curdie’s mission” — Curdie makes his way to the dove tower to see the old Princess and hear the special task she has for him.

“What is in a name?” — Peter and Curdie were left alone in the dark cave waiting to see if the old Princess would return. But will she come back before their lamps go out?

“The emerald” — Curdie and his father follow a strange green light deeper into the mine.

“The minors” — Peter and Curdie go to work in the mines and Curdie gets put to the test!

“Curdie’s father and mother” — Curdie’s parents noticed a great change in their son when he returned home and waited with great wonder to hear what sort of encounter had brought about such a change.

“The mistress of the silver moon” — Curdie races to the castle carrying the wounded pigeon in his hands and finds his way to the tower. There he meets someone he’s not quite what to think of.

“The white pigeon” - as Curdie takes an evening stroll with his bow and arrow he happens upon a defenceless creature. It’s not until after he takes his shot that he remembers who the creature belongs to.

“The mountain” - welcome back to the mountain where Curdie and Princess Irene defeated the horrible goblins in their last adventure (see Imaginately Podcast season 3). It is here where we set the stage for what is sure to be another epic tale.

“The Last Chapter” — as the waters rushed out from the king’s house, Curdie, his family and all of the miners showed great hospitality to the king’s servant, and quickly set to work to make things right.

“The subterranean waters” — as the king and his company continued their celebration and feasting, Princess Irene, led by her grandmother’s thread, rejoined them and brought to their attention a new and thunderous sound growing from a distance.

“The king and the kiss” — after a fretful night waiting out the storm, Curdie and his mother were able to take Princess Irene home to let everyone know that she wasn’t taken by the horrible goblins.

“Mason-work” — Curdie rushed to the mine as fast as he could, eager to warn his fellow miners of the wicked backup plan that the goblins had hatched.

“Curdie’s guide” — As Curdie got ready to follow the goblins into their tunnel hoping that it would lead him to Princess Irene, he discovered a curious little thread that led him away from the tunnel.

“The goblins in the king’s house” — Curdie awakes from a dream to discover that the worst has happened! Goblins have taken the king’s house by force and no one had paid attention to the signs!

“The goblin miners” — the king’s house servants, having heard strange sounds for a few days now, chatted together about what could be the cause, when suddenly there came a great thundering rumble that shook the whole house.

“Curdie comes to grief” — unable to tell the Princess how sorry he is for how he treated her, Curdie works even harder to properly observe the goblin miners. When he discovers a change in their digging pattern, Curdie decides to change where observes from and get into some serious trouble.

“Irene behaves like a Princess” — at last discovered by her nurse Lootie and all the servants of the house, Irene tries to tell them that she was not hiding from them on purpose. Conflict arises, however, when Lootie doesn’t believe the Princess, and Irene must make a tough decision.

“Curdie and his mother” — Curdie gets home safe from his misadventure with the goblins and shares the whole, wild story with his parents. To his surprise, his mother has a strange story of her own to share, which helps Curdie think differently about the Princess. He also shares his hypothesis of what evil plans the goblins have with his parents.

“The old lady and Curdie” — Irene, determined to prove to Curdie once and for all that her great-grandmother had rescued them from the goblins, took Curdie up the many flights of stairs to meet her, only things didn’t go quite as she had hoped.

“The escape” — having followed her great-grandmother’s thread into the dark cave, Irene resolved to follow it no matter what, even when it disappeared into a large pile of stones. Little did she expect to discover a long lost friend deep in the heart of the mountain.

Chapter one — On the same day in the same country, two girls were born, one to a king, and the other to a shepherd. As different as these girls’ circumstances were, they shared one unfortunate similarity — one that seemed innocent at the start, but left unchecked, grew into a monstrous trouble indeed. “Irene’s clue” — after being woken up by a frightening noise, Princess Irene remembered her grandmother’s words and placed her ring underneath her pillow. Safely anchored there, she then felt her way along the thread, and was surprised to find it lead away from her grandmother’s stair.

“Goblin counsels” — from his prison cell within the goblin palace, Curdie overhears the royal family talk about what they should do with him.

“Curdie’s clue” — after many nights of observing goblins and getting no closer to understanding their great and wicked plan, Curdie decides it’s time to follow his string out of the caves and back to the sunlight where he can go home for some much needed rest. Little does he know that on this particular night, his string no longer leads him back the way he came.

“Springtime” — having waited out a long winter, Irene’s king-papa makes his way back to see her and hear all about her misadventures with the goblins.

“The ring” — Princess Irene is back from her misadventure and shares what details she can with a very relieved Lootie. She also finds the courage to ask Lootie where she got her grandmother’s ring.

“Woven and then spun” — Princess Irene heard the sweet voice of her grandmother and let herself into her bedroom. There she showed just how dirty and miserable she was from her encounter with the long-legged goblin cat, and there she was given the gift her great-grandmother had prepared for her.

“The night week” — Determined to not give Lootie any reason to suspect that she had plans to find her great-great-grandmother once more, Princess Irene was on her best behaviour waiting for the day she was supposed to return. At last, the night arrived, but just as Princess Irene eagerly awaited the right moment to slip away, something unexpected and frightful happened.

“The cobs’ creatures” — during the nightly watch of the grounds, the king’s men-at-arms encounter such strange and startling creatures that they begin to doubt their own senses.

“A short chapter about Curdie” — determined to discover the real plan of the goblins, Curdie and his father invite Mrs. Peterson into their investigation.

“The old lady’s bedroom” — unable to sleep one evening, Princess Irene makes her way through the house and finds the staircase to her old great grandmother. As though led by moonlight, she makes her way up the stairs to see if she truly is real, or just a dream as she’d begun to believe.

“This is very kind of you” — chapter 14 — Upon hearing that a man had come forward to sacrifice his life in the lake, the princess danced with joy. She would do her part of the bargain, grateful for someone to be doing theirs. “Look at the rain!” — chapter 15 — the transformation in the princess undid the magic of her wicked aunt and ushered in a new era for the entire kingdom.

“The princess’s king-papa” — while playing outside and enjoying the sunshine one day, Princess Irene heard the bugle horn announcing the arrival of her favourite visitor.

“The hall of the goblin palace” — Curdie bravely follows the goblin family as they make their way through the caves to their new home, hoping that he can go unnoticed and hear the great plan the Goblin King has in mind.

“The goblins” — Curdie’s decision to stay and work late in the mine proved to be worthwhile when he happened to overhear a family of goblins talking amongst themselves. The only question is, will the information he learns be enough to shed light on why they had so curiously gathered under his window the night before?
