Now That's What I Call Music!26 Aug 202500:57:32

Sinéad and Mel are dusting off their discmans for this one and going back to the heady days of afternoons in HMV, CD car changers and Gonzo after school (thanks for everything, Zane Lowe). The 2000s were a wild ride of emo and RnB with a side of musical theatre, a time where burning CDs was an act of love and CD wallets were our most prized possessions (RIP Mel’s collection, lost forever).

From poring over lyrics and artwork to staring out of the rainy bus window and pretending we were in music videos, music is EVERYTHING to teenagers. We’re looking back to how music helped us understand new experiences, feel new feelings and try on new identities. And how, decades later, Sinéad’s teen music taste is still the key to her mental health. Mum, Dad – it’s not a phase!

This is If Destroyed Still True: the podcast where millennial best friends Sinéad Kennedy Sklar and Melissa Murdock rewind the mixtape of their teenage years and press play on the moments that shaped who they are today. We ask ourselves: how does this show up in our lives now? And if you could talk to your teenage self: what would you tell her

Hit follow, share your own teen chaos memories with us @IDSTpod, and get ready to laugh, cringe, and remember your fave mixtape.

She’s gonna blow!12 Aug 202500:44:49

Content note: In this episode we talk about some sensitive topics, including pregnancy and miscarriage. We refer to women, girls  and female reproductive systems a lot, as we’re talking about menstrual cycles, but we don’t believe that’s the defining characteristic of womanhood. Protect the dolls!

Sinéad and Mel are heading straight for the downstairs department: that’s right, we’re talking first periods, school sex ed, and all the weird/genius names we had for our “bits” in the early 2000s. Tampons were flying, and so were the rumours about Toxic Shock Syndrome.

From that one chaotic day the entire school learned about reproductive systems, to being handed the pill without much conversation, we’re unpacking how our understanding of our bodies was shaped early on. And how, after nearly two decades on hormonal contraception, we’re feeling a bit disconnected from our bodies.

This is If Destroyed Still True: the podcast where millennial best friends Sinéad Kennedy Sklar and Melissa Murdock rewind the mixtape of their teenage years and press play on the moments that shaped who they are today. We ask ourselves: how does this show up in our lives now? And if you could talk to your teenage self: what would you tell her?
Hit follow, share your own teen clique chaos with us @IDSTpod, and get ready to laugh, cringe, and remember exactly where you sat at lunchtime.

Well, probably not - but there are things you can do to prepare practically and emotionally. We’re joined this week by pregnancy and postpartum therapist Sophie Harris aka @looking_after_mum, to talk about managing expectations, honest conversations and feeling more confident about returning to work.

The Imposters Club - Are we booked, busy and burning out? with Dr Sam Akbar16 Aug 202201:04:08

The Imposters Club returns for our 5th season, and this time we’re talking WORK. Sinéad’s pivoting her career, Melissa’s returning from maternity leave and the whole world is talking about how we can work better.

We're in the booked and busy era, but 53% of women say their stress levels are even higher than they were a year ago. It seems that burnout is NOT a conversation to be left in 2020. It’s very real, very relevant and very much something we need to be aware of in order to manage and prevent it, rid ourselves of shame around it and work together to create a working culture that doesn’t make us ill. We’re joined this episode by Dr Sam Akbar, Clinical Psychologist and author of the frankly vital new book, Stressilient: How to Beat Stress and Build Resilience, to talk burnout, self-compassion and banning ‘good vibes only’.

The Imposters Club - How do we recover from #girlboss and hustle culture? with Seyda Karimpour03 Aug 202200:58:01

The Imposters Club returns for our 5th season, and this time we’re talking WORK. Sinéad’s pivoting her career, Melissa’s returning from maternity leave and the whole world is talking about how we can work better.

Let us take you on a little trip down memory lane. It’s 2014: we’re trying to get our foot on the professional ladder, tentatively calling ourselves feminists, and holding an Urban Outfitters mug that says ‘you have the same 24 hours as Beyoncé’. It is the era of the #girlboss. How did she shape the professional ambitions of a generation of young women? Has hustle culture burnt us out? And with time of death officially called on the Girlboss in 2020, what do we do with that vision of work now?

In this episode we’re joined by Seyda Karimpour, founder of Seasons of Work, a community platform for multi-passionates who want to push back against hustle culture and find their own rhythm in work and life.

The Imposters Club - Do we need to stop talking about Imposter Syndrome?20 Jul 202200:38:52

WE’RE BACK! The Imposters Club returns for our 5th season, and this time we’re talking WORK. Sinéad’s pivoting her career, Melissa’s returning from maternity leave and the whole world is talking about how we can work better.

In our first episode we’re going back to basics by deep-diving into what brought us here, and asking the potentially podcast-ending question: do we need to STOP talking about Imposter Syndrome? Stay tuned for why you can’t ‘fix’ it (and why it’s not your responsibility to) and how Imposter Syndrome might make you a better colleague after all. Hmm…

IT’S THE FINAL EPISODE OF THE GOOD ENOUGH GUIDE! A 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you, brought to you by The Imposters Club

In our final episode (before we head off to get married, write a PhD thesis and have a baby- not necessarily at the same time), we’re talking about what nobody seems to want to talk about: money. Sinéad and Melissa discuss how the pandemic has changed their relationships with money, why finances can make us question whether we’re good enough and how we can move forward and prioritise financial wellbeing in the new normal (we know, we know). We’re also joined by the brilliant Ellie Austin-Williams of This Girl Talks Money to chat about overcoming financial fear, having conversations about money with the people we care about and finding balance.

All drama, all the time30 Jul 202500:44:07

Sinéad and Mel are throwing it way back to school corridors and lunchtime politics: yep, we’re talking cliques, labels and identities. The theatre kids. The alternative kids. The sporty ones, the popular ones. The drama was real, and we were in it.

In this episode, we dig into the groups and labels that defined our teen years. From Sinéad getting called an “angry feminist” (a badge of honour, tbh), to Mel carving out her space as the funny, laddy one thanks to her brothers, we’re looking at how our teenage identities still shape who we are to this day.

Hit follow, share your own teen crush stories with us @IDSTpod, and get ready to laugh, cringe, and take a wander down memory lane.

tw: periods, fertility, description of miscarriage

Mel’s having a baby! In this episode she shares her story so far: the journey to getting pregnant and what it’s been like growing a new human. This topic is far from simple, and true to form we couldn’t stop talking once we’ve started, so this episode will come to you in two parts. In part one, we talk about getting to know your cycle, feeling out of depth when it comes to approaching fertility and all the imposter syndrome that comes with impending parenthood. We know this can be a sensitive subject, so if you need to skip this episode we’re sending love and will catch you another time.

The Imposters Club - The Good Enough Guide to Change15 Sep 202101:12:22

The Imposters Club is back with The Good Enough Guide, a 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you.

It’s safe to say we’ve dealt with a LOT of changes over the past 18 months. Some of them have been externally imposed, like the lockdowns and restrictions, redundancies and bereavements. Some have been changes we’ve chosen, like choosing to leave a relationship that’s not working or a career change. Whether they’re joyful choices or devastating changes, change can feel really destabilizing and scary- and that can make us question our own worth. So we chatted to certified life coach and founder of the Curiosity Club, Catri Barrett, about how to cope with change, lean into the fear and adopt a growth mindset, whatever changes you’ve experienced.

The Imposters Club - The Good Enough Guide to Grieving31 Aug 202101:03:23

The Imposters Club is back with The Good Enough Guide, a 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you.

It’s been a really tough 18 months - amidst the difficult lockdowns and anxiety, many of us have been dealing with the deaths of the people we love. The pandemic and necessary restrictions have affected how we grieve- it’s changed our mourning rituals and robbed us of the support systems we lean on. And while talking about death and grief is hard, it’s so important- so we asked Amber Jeffrey, founder of The Grief Gang podcast to chat to us about normalising grief, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable and how we can support each other.

The Imposters Club is back with The Good Enough Guide, a 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you.

Sinéad is getting married! Well, hopefully. Covid has had a lot to say about milestones like weddings, and a lot of marriage plans have been thrown into the air over the past 18 months. Added to all this uncertainty is the pervading sense of not being good enough- not being the Pinterest-perfect couple, struggling to keep every relative happy or not being enough of a grown up. We caught up with some of the lovely brides and grooms in our community who told us about their plans, how they’re feeling and the lessons they’ve learnt about getting married in a pandemic.

The Imposters Club is back with The Good Enough Guide, a 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you.

In this episode, Sinéad and Melissa talk about advocating for yourself - asking for what you want, standing up for what you need and upholding your boundaries. We started the season by focusing on what’s important to us and now we’re jumping in with both feet and asking for it. Tiwalola Ogunlesi, founder of Confident and Killing It, joins us for a chat about building the confidence to go for what we want, and why imposter syndrome is just temporary memory loss.

The Imposters Club is back with The Good Enough Guide, a 10-part post-lockdown survival guide to help you feel good enough and choose what’s good enough for you.

In this episode, Sinéad and Melissa get to grips with how our relationships with our bodies have changed throughout the pandemic. After a year stuck inside staring at our faces on Zoom, diet culture is as pervasive as ever and everyone seems panicked about the ‘lockdown glow-up’- and that’s all while we’re dealing with the physical effects of stress on our bodies. Body image researcher Dr Nadia Craddock from the Body Protest podcast pops in to talk about how the pandemic has impacted our body image, the importance of diet-free workplaces and how we can support each other in having a better relationship with our appearance.

“Saw your boob” “Wicked”16 Jul 202500:47:27

Sinéad and Melissa are kicking off with a big one: teen crushes. The drama. The delusion. The deep, deep feelings. From inventing painful love sagas in our heads, to changing life plans just to be near someone (Sinéad might have picked an A-Level for a boy), we’ve all been there.

In this episode we’re talking celebrity obsessions, soul-crushingly awkward moments, heartbreak and all the weird things we did in the name of love – including Mel’s ultimate Robbie Williams Sims fantasy.

This is If Destroyed Still True: the podcast where millennial best friends Sinéad Kennedy Sklar and Melissa Murdock rewind the mixtape of their teenage years and press play on the moments that shaped who they are today. We ask ourselves: how does this show up in our lives now? And if you could talk to your teenage self - what would you tell her?

Hit follow, share your own teen crush stories with us @IDSTpod, and get ready to laugh, cringe, and take a wander down memory lane.

Introducing: If Destroyed Still True11 Jul 202500:03:06

Welcome to If Destroyed Still True: the podcast where millennial best friends Sinéad Kennedy Sklar and Melissa Murdock rewind the mixtape of their teenage years and press play on the moments that shaped who they are today.

You might remember Sinéad and Mel from The Imposters Club. They’re back with a new show diving headfirst into the chaos, cringe, and creativity of being a teen. From tippexed band names and first crushes, to questionable outfits and emotional awakenings, IDST is a love letter to our inner teen — the one who, let’s be honest, still has the aux cord in our adult lives.

In each episode, we’ll look back at a different part of the teen experience, reflecting on those mortifying, hilarious moments and asking ourselves: how does this show up in our lives now? and if you could talk to your teenage self - what would you tell her?

If Destroyed Still True is funny, heartfelt, and totally 4 eva. New episodes coming soon — hit follow and get ready to relive the magic and madness of being a teenage girl.

The Imposters Club - Lowering expectations, summer holidays and car-crash TV25 Jul 202300:58:33

The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best friends figuring life out, one episode at a time.

This week we’re learning to lower our expectations in order to actually enjoy ourselves more. Mel’s summer holiday dreams weren’t quite the same as the reality, so we’re letting go of the Insta-perfect highlight reels and letting ourselves find joy in the bloopers. And talking of bloopers – have you been watching And Just Like That? Unattainable wealth and overwhelming cringe aside, this season has offered us some interesting meditations on grief that seem to have been lifted directly from Sinéad’s brain.

We’re taking a break so Sinéad can go on her honeymoon, so let’s catch up in the Autumn!

The Imposters Club - Backing yourself at work, unionizing Swifties and a podcasting deja-vu05 Jul 202300:54:17

The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best friends figuring life out, one episode at a time.

This week we’re doing it: we’re officially backing ourselves at work. We’re reflecting on everything we’ve learnt over the past 6 seasons - how Imposter Syndrome functions, how we can manage it and what our values are, and now we’re putting it into practice. We’re talking about figuring out what you need, making your business case (we know, we know), and managing that difficult conversation. Also, in a sentence we’d never thought we’d say: the Swifties are unionizing (please don't come for us). Where does the line between actively participating in a fandom and collective bargaining lie? And why are people applying the language of industrial action to the personal life of a 33 year-old woman?

The Imposters Club - The life-changing magic of quitting, simplifying and sizing up21 Jun 202300:50:43

The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best friends figuring life out, one episode at a time.

This week we’re talking about the most underrated life skill: knowing when to quit. Why is it that quitting is always seen as a bad thing, when it often shows that you’re self-aware enough to know when something isn’t working? We’ve been thinking about why simplifying your life feels so good, and sharing how to do that – plus, Sinéad’s got something she needs to get off her chest…

The Imposters Club - May in retrograde, intimacy and the power of Queer Eye07 Jun 202300:45:51

The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best friends figuring life out, one episode at a time.

This week we’re getting intimate. Mel’s been thinking about the intimacy of motherhood and we chat about the different types of intimacy, why it’s not just about sex, and the romantic magic of female friendship. Plus, QUEER EYE IS BACK and it’s unsurprisingly got us talking about vulnerability, masculinity and why talking about - not solving - your problems is so important.

The Imposters Club - Nursery fees, Tomlettes and beach bodies24 May 202300:46:27

The Imposters Club is back for season 6, helmed as always by Sinéad and Mel: two best mates figuring life out, one episode at a time.

Did you know pine nuts cost £6 now? We’re chatting about the outrageous cost of living – from food, to fuel, to childcare – and why struggling to make ends meet isn’t a moral failing. Is the cost of living why we’re all so invested in Succession, the prestige TV showing us just how miserable the ultra-rich really are? And finally, Summer is coming and Sinéad’s off on her honeymoon – cue that voice in our heads telling us to get ‘beach body ready’, whatever that means…
