Hello, Friends – and welcome back!

We’re so glad to have you here with us again. In this episode, we’re exploring some of the more unique – and sometimes downright quirky – customs in Icelandic culture.

You might already know the classic fun fact: Iceland is green, and Greenland is ice. But did you know that naming your child in Iceland is an entirely different process compared to most places?

We’ll dive into that fascinating tradition, along with a few other cultural gems that might surprise you.

At Iceland’s Best Tours, we believe that understanding the heart of a culture is part of what makes travel truly meaningful. We're excited to share these insights with you – not just as your guides, but as locals who genuinely care about making your Icelandic experience unforgettable.

If you’re thinking about visiting Iceland and want to make the absolute most of your trip, we’d love to help you craft an unforgettable experience. Whether you already have something in mind or are starting from scratch, we’ll work with you to design a personalized itinerary that fits your interests, pace, and style.

At Iceland’s Best Tours, we specialize in creating unique, private experiences for individuals, couples, families, and small groups. Have a larger group? No problem – we’re fully equipped to accommodate that as well.

With over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, I bring a deep understanding of what it means to make guests feel truly welcome and well taken care of. That passion is at the heart of everything we do.

As a licensed and insured day tour provider, I offer luxury SUV tours to some of Iceland’s most iconic destinations – including the Golden Circle, the South Coast, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, and more. We focus on comfort, safety, and authentic experiences that allow you to connect with Iceland in a meaningful way.

Let us take care of the details, so you can focus on the wonder.

Hello Friends!

In this episode, I talk about being aware of your surroundings. Especially in crowded tourist areas. When my wife and I travel we try hard not to look like tourists. Sometimes you just can't help it.  You are what you are. There's no need to be afraid. Just be aware. That's your best line of defense against unscrupulous petit thieves. I'll also be talking about summer, when to visit and what to bring. I made a list of what to bring basics.

Anticipating a Volcano

jeudi 16 novembre 2023Duration 15:35

Send a text

Hello Friends!
We are currently anticipating a volcanic eruption. Well, since Friday we've been on an "anytime now" or "maybe never" status. It basically means that experts can theorize what may happen. However, you just can't know until it actually happens. I hope that makes sense. l would also like to make a correction about the lava tube or corridor that I spoke of. It is not under the Blue Lagoon but also not far away either. It looks like the people of Grindavik have a long road ahead. Let's keep them in our thoughts and prayers. If you would like to donate money to the Icelandic Red Cross or to the Icelandic Search and Rescue teams, you'll find the links below.
Thank you for listening.

Winter is Coming !

dimanche 29 octobre 2023Duration 25:19

Send a text

Hello Friends!
Winter is coming! I'm excited about it!  Summer is my favorite season in Iceland, fall is a close second. Northern lights are shining brightly like a rainbow in the night sky. Halloween (Hrekkjavaka) is coming, and it has been growing in popularity every year people started observing it here. Thanksgiving (Þakkargjörð) is also observed in Iceland.  Not for the same reasons Americans have to be thankful for, but you will see turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce available in Icelandic supermarkets the week leading up toThanksgiving and all the way through Christmas, for that matter. Also, you will see North American pumpkins (the orange ones) available for Halloween and Thanksgiving. They were non existent here until recent years. I've even seen the pumpkin pie filling in a can. If you find yourself in Iceland between now and December 25th this is what you have to look forward to. I hope to see you all here!

Stay tuned!

Icelandic Phallological Museum

Season 1 · Episode 10

samedi 14 octobre 2023Duration 06:02

Send a text

  Hello Friends!
In this latest episode of Museum Visits, I visited the Icelandic Phalloloigcal Museum.
It was founded in 1997 by Sigurdur Hjartason. His son Hjortur Gisli Sigurdsson now runs the museum. I visited this museum many years ago before it moved from Husavik way up north. It is now much bigger and better and has many new specimens. Now it's here in downtown Reykjavik situated in the midst of all types of shops and restaurants (and other museums) It only costs 2750 ISK or about $20 USD. It's well worth it. There's a gift shop for all the penis key chains and t shirts and such and a cafe that also serves BEER. It really was super interesting. I highly recommend paying them a visit.

Have a look at their website
