Episode 15 | City Pop Goes The World01 Jun 202300:53:14

We listen to the urban sounds of city pop in this episode. This Japanese genre from the 80s has regained popularity in recent years thanks to YouTube and TikTok algorithms that have spawned the birth of new genres that heavily sample city pop songs such as vaporwave and future funk. It is also part of the trend of bringing back old genres of music as we all love that nostalgic feeling, even when it's sung in another language. Enjoy!

It's a longer episode but its a good one, especially since we are joined by Blink-182's number one fan (Drew). Although it is a beloved genre, is pop punk actually considered punk? Episode 12 | Jump Up and Listen to Calypso!10 May 202301:10:30

Welcome to a mini-history lesson about the music of Trinidad 🎶. This episode is all about calypso which has a rich history that is evident in many of the songs politically and socially aware lyrical content. It's music you can dance to.. with a message! We listen to all the greats - Calypso Rose, Mighty Sparrow, Lord Kitchener and all of the other Mighty's & Lords and of course Harry Belafonte (Rest in Peace ❤️). The history of calypso music is super interesting so I recommend listening or reading more about it even if you may not be interested in Caribbean music (although you should be cause it's great 😉).
