I join Spiritus Paranormal for a paranormal investigation, and I’m taking you along with me as not only will I tell you all about the history, the legends, and the ghost stories, but I’ll talk you through every aspect of our investigation on that summer’s night, and you’ll hear the actual audio so you can hear what happened, exactly as it happened. One of the most haunted houses in America, if not the world, this previously unassuming property was the scene of a mass murder back in November of 1974, which appears to have kickstarted some absolutely horrifying paranormal activity, including slime oozing from the walls, family members levitating in their bed, and a demonic red-eyed pig monster. After just 28 days the family fled their new home and the house on Ocean Avenue, Long Island has lived in infamy ever since.

But is this house genuinely as haunted as we would be led to believe?

Built on foundations dating back to the Roman occupation of Britain, this castle, constructed in 1258, has been the focus of studies for 30 years, due to the incredible frequency of the paranormal occurrences. Occurrences including babies crying, children singing, and shadowy figures. An experienced team of paranormal investigators came to the castle to conduct an investigation, but no sooner had their ghost hunt begun, the phantoms within the Tapestry Room, the most active room in this 800 year old fortress, sent them fleeing into the wilderness of the Lake District as they feared for their lives.

Below Edinburgh’s famous Royal Mile lies a historic close that was once a thriving community in it’s own right, open to the skies above, and named, unusually for the 17th century for a woman who was the most successful businesswoman here until her death in 1644. The building of the Royal Exchange in the 18th century spelled the end for this place, and it would be, eventually, buried beneath the city streets, lost and unused. The close became shrouded in myths and urban legends; with terrifying tales of the ghosts that remain at the close they knew so well in life.

When it was opened as a tourist attraction in 2003, it found new levels of infamy, and is now regarded as one of the most haunted places, in an incredibly haunted city.

I investigated this location in 2012 while writing my book Ghosts of Edinburgh. Find out exactly what happened on that dark October evening, as tonight. join me as we once again venture below the streets of Edinburgh.

Christmas is a wonderous time for those people who celebrate it, where families and friends get together and exchange presents, watch Christmas movies, play games, and gorge themselves silly on enormous roast dinners. The only Victorian era prison still standing in the city of Belfast in Northern Ireland, was once known as Europe’s Alcatraz. Dating from 1845, this was a place of incarceration and execution. It closed in 1996 and ever since visitors have reported all manner of paranormal occurrences such as things moving of their own accord, voices from empty cells, and ghosts have been seen and photographed.  It is considered one of the most haunted placed in this capital city, but is it worthy of such a reputation?

In a remote location, high above the North Sea, this castle has over 700 years of history, a turbulent past which has left it as a ruinous reminder of the violence and bloodshed that Northumberland has witnessed. This castle is said to be home to a number of spirits that were tied to the building in life, and most famously is the setting of a famous Northumbrian legend of a knight’s quest to save a maiden in distress.

One of London’s best-known cemeteries, in fact it’s considered one of London’s magnificent seven Victorian graveyards. Dating back to 1839, there are believed to be around 170,000 bodies buried beneath the ground here. This graveyard has earned a frightening reputation in more recent years with stories of men clad in all black conducting dark rituals here. Spooks and specters flit about quickly between the 53,000 gravestones, and red eyed demons call this place home. Then most famously of all is the vampire that preys on its victims here, in England’s capital.

A building designed to scare, disgust and terrify. Creepy, lifelike mannequins made up like torture victims, or a cannibalistic feast. Actors telling stories of the darkest periods in the history of this city, a city that we’ve visited on two previous podcast episodes. However could it actually be haunted? Best known for its link to the witch trials of 1612, which saw eight women and two men executed by hanging for witchcraft. Ever since this particular location in Lancashire has been linked to paranormal occurrences blamed for the witches who were accused and convicted of practising their dark arts right here.

Every Halloween ghost hunters flock to this location, for it has been said by many to be one of, if not the, most haunted place in the world.

In 1867, a psychiatric hospital was opened in Victoria, Australia, and for the next 126 years it would carry out horrendous medical procedures, without consent, or anesthetic.

In 1985 a tunnel was found by a Scottish international rugby player, that led to an enormous underground complex, that had once been a thriving, lawless, city beneath Edinburgh. 

This is a very paranormally active place indeed, with one malevolent phantom in particular being very unappreciative of the visitors who come here daily on tours.

I investigated this location a decade ago, and encountered this foul-mouthed, dangerous entity for myself, in what quickly escalated into the most dangerous investigation I had ever led.

Part two of a two-part special sees us return to the Wheatsheaf public house in West Boldon, Tyne and Wear made news worldwide in late 2004 when a psychic night for charity was the catalyst for a series of events so incredible, and horrifying, that the Discovery Channel turned it into an episode for their “A Haunting” series, which was watched by over 20 million people.

The pub, which was named the most haunted in the UK in the same year, following these events, held a secret that had been locked away for a century, until Suzanne walked into the pub that night, and blew the whole thing wide open, much to the displeasure of a malevolent spirit which then threatened to kill her.

You'll hear the rest of the horrifying chain of events directly from Suzanne Gill, the psychic at the centre of the events, in the first part of an interview I conducted with her all about that night at the Wheatsheaf, and the weeks and months that followed.

What's more, you'll hear two very scary EVPs which appeared on our Zoom call, just after Suzanne had been telling me how the threatening ghost of Joseph had said he was going to kill her, when the audio wasn't heard at the time, but later was heard on recording equipment. Is this something explained away as a glitch on the audio, or something far darker?

An 800-year-old former-inn regularly placed at the top of lists of the most haunted places in the world. A place so dark and dangerous that the once Bishop of Gloucester, the Rev John Yates, is said to have tried and failed to exorcise the building and was quoted in the Western Daily Press as saying it was "the evilest place I have ever had the misfortune to visit.”

A building constructed atop a 5000-year-old Pagan burial ground, and the skeletal remains of a woman and child were found beneath the floor of the inn, along with an iron dagger, leading to suspicions these unfortunate souls may have been killed as human sacrifices. The building is home to all manner of things that go bump in the night, but does it live up to its infamous reputation?

Dating back almost 2000 years, the Colosseum stands today as one of the new "Seven Wonders", and is one of the most recognisable, and most visited, landmarks on earth. 

For five centuries men, women, and animals were brutally killed in front of a crowd of up to 80,000 in gladiator battles, animal hunts, and executions. Around 400,000 humans and over a million animals were slain here, all for the entertainment of the people of Rome. 

Its undeniable that this much bloodshed has forever left its mark on the Colosseum, which is today considered the most haunted building in Rome, if not all of Italy.

The oldest building in Newcastle-upon-Tyne is the Castle Keep and Black Gate of the Castle Garth. Dating back almost 1000 years, the castle has long been considered to be the most haunted building in the city, with the best known resident being the Poppy Girl.

A tourist attraction in the heart of one of the scariest cities anywhere on earth, offering frightening fun to families who enjoy ghoulish and gory stories told by actors made up as characters from this city’s dark past. When the public have gone home, and this intentionally creepy building is left empty and silence, could there be more to it than meets the eye? 

With rumours of strange lights appearing and blinking on command, strange knocks seeming to come in answer to questions, and even the apparitions of a caretaker and a young girl, it certainly seems this may be the case.

This time we return to Derby Gaol, a site of murder, suicide, executions, disease, suffering and despair. I continue by conversation with Richard Felix, and he tells me of an unbelievable occurrence he had at Halloween in front of a group of onlookers. This remarkable display of poltergeist activity was actually filmed by CCTV as well as one of those in attendance, so you can actually see it for yourself, as you’ll hear.

A grand estate built around a house built in 1693, and destroyed by fire in 1977 is said to be the haunt of shadowy figures belonging to those who knew the building so well in life. The stable block, added in 1811, is one of the more active areas. Why this is the case we’ll likely never know.

Phantom lights float around the house, and whispering is heard deep in the woodland. Dogs howl and bark within the grounds in the dead of night, and can be heard for miles around.

Would I encounter any of these phantoms when my team and I investigated this estate back in the spring of 2012?

In the 19th Patreon bonus podcast you join me as I investigate a building dating from 1825, which is today the largest independent library outside of London. This was the first public building lit by an electric lightbulb and in 1830 a mummy from Egypt was unwrapped right here.

A popular holiday park built around a 13th century castle. This is not your typical location for a paranormal investigation, a holiday park full of luxury caravans and holiday makers spending their weekends boating on the lake, or playing on the arcades and fruit machines. What they’re all blissfully unaware of however is the darker side of this particular holiday park. The ghosts and ghouls that roam the older parts. These include the Victorian lady who roams the Rotunda, the small child seen within the summer house, and the man seen walking through the Italian gardens.

And beware as there may well be ghosts, ghouls, poltergeists, and monsters at every turn. In the 18th Patreon bonus podcast we return once more to York, and in particular to a hotel in the shadow of York Minster which was originally built between 1864 and 1865 as three separate dwellings for the Dean of York Minster, to house the Clergy.
