Script 1

Are you a man?

Do you share your home with children, cats, dogs, guinea pigs and a partner that always cusses you for not taking your shoes off at the door?

Do you long for a little bit of quality man-time?

Then you need..... a MANSPACE!

You can rebuild a vintage motorcycle in your Manspace.

Watch the football on a 60" widescreen with your pals while drinking…

Responsibly in your Manspace...

Even install your favourite arcade games from the 80's!

Or we could just put some nice rattan furniture in there...and scented

Candles and pillows?

[Sound effect of Pac-Man running into a ghost as if to say....Game Over]

Yeah.....right! (sarcastically)

Script 2

He was right. I was not naturally bad. A coward broke my life and made me what I have become.

I had wronged him, I admit, but I was very sorry – and hated myself for my fault. I begged his pardon – begged for it on my knees! And he told me to go – threw me out into the streets!

(Beat)

Me! His wife! The mother of his child!

(Beat)

Thanks to him I have suffered a thousand deaths – and I have killed! I hate him…

Armin Hierstetter - The One with the Lemons and Melons!23 Aug 202400:33:22

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by Voxbox, Armin Hierstetter joins Sam and Mark to talk about creating a performance for fast cars (when the pictures really do the talking), cooking, and some very naughty adult things... plus Sam has a top kitchen tip for you!

Our VO question this week is all about the common mistakes people make when auditioning on Pay-2-Play sites.

Get involved! Have you got a Wildcard suggestion that we should try or an idea for the show? Send it to us via Mark or Sam's social media or email it directly to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

Take cooking. We all have to rustle up a meal. At one end of the scale, there's scrambled eggs on toast (which is a small step up from a pot noodle) and at the other end, there's that tricky Ottolenghi recipe that you might try to whip up on a free weekend. But if we really want to push the boat out, then we head to a restaurant and get the experts to cook up something special. Getting it right is important - and that gives us the chance to choose the perfect solution.

Script 2

Bilsterberg is a modern racetrack in northern Germany. Over a 4.2 km stretch with 19 challenging curves, you can improve your skills and test the potential of your car and accessories. You don't find spectator stands here, it's all about driving, not watching.

The Porsche Cayman with its 4-cylinder engine is a quite underrated car. Let's see how it performs on track.

The Manhart MH2 GRT is challenging for tyres on a racetrack - due to its relatively high weight and its enormous power.

Phil Rowe: The one with the Compelling Welsh King!06 Oct 202300:33:06

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Welsh voice actor Phil Rowe joins Sam and Mark to talk about the changing face of audio guides, powerful natural accents, and how to cope with difficult placenames in a script. Our wildcards include dialling the Welsh up to the max, and a superb vintage style never heard before!

Our VO question this week is all about what kind of mics you have, and how many!

We’d love you to suggest a wildcard style or genre for a future episode - either DM Mark or Sam on our socials or send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

“This is a truly splendid abbey, is it not? I have travelled all over the kingdom, and visited many abbeys. But rarely have I seen one as fine as this.

My ancestor, Edward III, transformed this. He made it into a beautiful resting place for his father, Edward II, who is buried here.

They began their work right here. They remodelled the South Transept first, as a kind of experiment before they tackled the rest of the East End.

All this magnificence was a grand stage for Edward II’s tomb. But I’ll tell you more about the tomb when we get there…”

Script 2

This isn't just any vodka. The Eastern Delights vodka is a symbol of Pan-Asian craftsmanship, where each ingredient is meticulously chosen from the finest offerings across the continent.

In a blend that pays homage to the East, the Eastern Delights Vodka is triple blended with distillates of exotic longan honey from Taiwan, robust barley from the towering Tibetan highlands, and an extraordinary mixture of different potatoes. To perfect the blend, it's proofed with the ultra-soft water that flows from the picturesque Sakurajima Peninsula in Kagoshima, Japan.

About our guest:

One way or another, Phil has been using his voice professionally since childhood, usually singing, until illness forced him to hang up his gigging boots in 2017.

Eager to somehow continue using his voice as an expressive tool, Phil was drawn to voiceover and grew a new career from his own studio. Since then Phil has served hundreds of happy clients all over the globe, in English and in Welsh, with voiceovers to lend their projects gravitas, depth and emotion.

While his voice has covered many aspects of the industry, Phil especially enjoys scripts that call for a little drama and allow him to explore the full range of his versatility.

Kerry Hutchinson: The one where the Tips Keep Coming!29 Sep 202300:32:51

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Kerry Hutchinson joins Sam and Mark to talk about the different styles of narration for audiobooks, how to pull back time in a script so you have more for the end, and our wildcards embrace mad professors, pirates and the late-great Joyce Grenfell!

Our VO question this week is all about what your favourite audiobook is, and why.

We’d love you to suggest a wildcard we could use in the show - either DM Mark or Sam on social media or send your suggestion to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

Triumphantly Caroline lifted her finger from the fine italic type. There was nothing to mar the success of this afternoon. Not only had she taken the car out alone for the first time, driving unerringly on the right-hand side of the road, but what she had achieved was not a simple drive but a cultural excursion. She had taken the Italian guidebook Neville was always urging on her and hesitantly, haltingly, she had managed to piece out enough of the language to choose a route that took in four well-thought-of frescoes, two universally admired campaniles, and one wooden crucifix in a village church quite a long way from the main road. It was not, after all, such a bad thing that a British Council meeting had kept Neville in Florence.

Script 2

These days, time is a precious commodity.

It’s difficult to balance work, life and play, but enjoying quality rest and relaxation is essential for our overall well-being.

We need downtime – time for ourselves – time for De-Stress.

At Mindful of West End, most De-Stress recliners come in multiple sizes for the perfect fit.

About our guest:

Drew Campbell is a multi award winning voice actor based in Carlisle, Cumbria. He's been a voiceover for just over 10 years after falling it to it. He's a singer, guitarist, and songwriter and was lucky because he already had a garden studio.

He's voiced for video games like, WarHammer 3 and Total War: Troy Mythos and the odd indie game. He was cast as 2 robot gang members in a video game called Cloudpunk, a cockney robot and an screechy American robot. A lot of players like the line “Urban Renewal Bitch”.

He was also entered Into the Eurovision Song Contest twice by a Swedish songwriter that he created some music with. The first song was called “Micro Mini Thong” but Drew can't imagine why it didn’t go anywhere!

By the early 70s, the Cyborg amp was being adopted by other music genres.

And just as progressive rock reached its peak, music got a sudden wakeup call.

Gritty guitars and the 3 minute pop song were back – this time, with attitude.

The punk revolution released a torrent of new talent. It was all about making a statement. Their sound had to be loud and for most, the established Cyborg was the amp of choice.

But Punk inspired more than the anarchists.

Wholemeal’s better all told for young people ‘cause it's bread that’s had now’t taken out”. And now, over a hundred years later, it's been proved beyond reasonable doubt. David Monteith: The one with the Blunt Old Needle!11 Aug 202300:34:13

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, David Monteith joins Sam and Mark to turn a very dry health and safety corporate script into something you'd want to learn from. We have a bodice ripping sexual encounter, a trip in The TARDIS, and a performance where you can actually feel the pain!

Our VO question this week is all about what you keep in your booth, apart from your mic obviously!

We’d love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today’s show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

Before working with hazardous materials, you must follow these safe work practices:

Store hazardous chemicals in areas that can be locked, but still have good ventilation.

Do not store hazardous chemicals in cool-drink bottles or any other unmarked container.

Ensure hazardous materials are in their original containers that clearly say what they are.

Do not pour hazardous materials down drains or dump them.

Keep ignition sources (for example, mobile phones, lighters, cigarettes, etc.) away from hazardous materials.

Report any leaks or uncontrolled hazardous materials to your supervisor immediately.

Script 2

Repression is a central element of the drama in both Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. Seduction in these novels is a subtle, socially distanced affair. There may be cads and mistresses, damaged reputations, falls from grace and dishonourable conduct, but all matters of direct sexual engagement are barely alluded to, let alone explicitly depicted. Britches remain firmly buckled; bodices remain securely bound. Happily for the novelist, the suggestion of, prelude to and promise of sex is often more sensual than the act itself.

About our guest: Actor, Director, Tutor/Coach, Podcaster, David Monteith is multi-talented! Realising he could never become the astronaut he dreamed of, he turned to acting in the hope that one day he could play a space ship captain and at least pretend he was a spaceman. Years later he has an international Shakespeare portfolio as well as a strong CV of plays, pantos, short films and commercials. He is also a director with 7 opera's under his belt, and a teacher/coach.

While struggling to reach the stars, he became the first black podcaster in the UK and co-host of the first podcast to make it to tv. Discovering Voice Over & never getting over liking attention, he has specialised in the "dramatic" genres - audiobooks, audio plays, games & mocap. In 2022 David was part of a team of narrators for The Atlas Six which won best audiobook in the fantasy genre. In 2023 was nominated for best audiobook fiction in the One Voice Awards. In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by britishvoiceover.co.uk, Julie-Ann Dean joins Sam and Mark to talk about what directors really want. When you're asked for storytelling and whimsy - are they two different things? Plus what does it mean when your only note on a read is "interesting!", and we look at audio guides in a variety of different ways.

Our VO question this week is all about how and when to tell clients that you're not prepared to work with them any more!

We’d love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today’s show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

You know the saying, ‘the more you share, the more you have?’

It’s our truth.

No great thing is created solo

The best things happen when we come together

We see beauty in our diversity

We celebrate our differences

And we’re united by everything we share

Shared purpose, vision, potential, success, reward

Shared ownership

We are the architects of our future

With the power to maximise potential

For us, our clients and our business

And here, it all starts with sharing.

Script 2

Stonehenge, a unique prehistoric temple aligned with the movements of the sun.

Built in stages between 3000 and 2200 BC- it's the only stone circle in the world to have lintels, the horizontal stones sitting on top of the uprights.

Its architecture reveals the sophisticated minds and engineering ability of those who built it: the late Neolithic people of Britain.

As we explore the monument, we will find out about Stonehenge, and also the history of the area around it.

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!” sponsored by Voxbox, Tom Hillenbrand joins Sam and Mark to talk about the cinematic feel of golden voiceover, how your face shape can change the way you sound, and Sam comes up with her most surprising fun fact yet!

Script 1

Here is our gold mining operation on Australia’s richest goldfield. Under and around this city is one of the largest gold deposits in Australia. 10 million ounces, 311 tonnes of gold. The source of the gold vein was very special. Gold fluids rose from deep in the earth’s crust towards the surface. Filling giant east west cracks in the granite. These cracks are up to 5kms long and kilometres deep. Our geological studies and drilling have defined a gold resource of 23 million tonnes of rock containing 14 grams gold per tonne.

One day, a terrible thing happened. Snow White's mother, the queen, who preferred the outdoor life to libraries, was picking flowers in the royal garden when she was bitten on her bottom by a snake - a poisonous, purple, vicious villainous viper with sharp teeth, thin lips and a particularly nasty expression on its face.

Its bite was, of course, fatal.

From then on, Snow White's life was not at all happy.

Not at all.

And that's where my story really begins.

Script 2

To many people an established brand is something that large companies have evolved over time to sell more of their products. But brands don't exist by accident, and good brands can bring back customers again and again.

Here are the six key rules of branding.

Number one, define your business.

What does it do, why does it do it, and why is it better than the competition?

The answers to these questions should become part of your brand personality.

A brand should capture your mission.

Number two, how do you impact people?

The Walt Disney Company is everywhere. And over the years they’ve crept into more and more places, thanks in large part to billions of dollars of acquisitions of already famous brands.

Some of you may be huge Disney fans and view this as a great thing. After all, more brands within the Disney family can mean more awesome theme park rides and attractions.

But there are also Disney detractors who view the Disney-fication of things as a dumbing down or as an edge-softening of a brand that previously had some grit.

And we’re going to explore both sides of those Mickey Mouse ears.

Leonie Schliesing: The one with the Laxative Easing!09 Jun 202300:31:55

In this episode of “How Do You Say That?!”, German born voice actor Leonie Schliesing joins Mark and guest-host Clare Reeves to talk about how to dial up the friendly on a dry corporate script, drinking from the fountain of youth, and making strained noises somewhat easier.

Our VO question this week is all about awards! Can winning one actually help your career in any way?

We’d love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today’s show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

Why do we age and can we pull the brake on the process? That is a question which many people would like to find the answer to.

Inside each cell, we have our chromosomes and DNA strands. The ends of our chromosomes are equipped with so-called telomeres.

As we grow older, our telomeres become increasingly short – until they are worn down to the point where a cell cannot divide without the DNA strand unravelling. This causes the cell to perish. When cells reach this stage, they are referred to senescent cells.

Script 2

GOOD MORNING WITH BRONCOLAX

Don’t let constipation ruin your day. Try Broncolax.

It supports your natural gut rhythm to relieve constipation

…making your good morning even better with Broncolax.

And try BroncoEase. A constipation relief gentle enough for long term use

Kenny Blyth: The one with the Dark Horror Story02 Jun 202300:34:19

In this episode of “How do you Say That?!”, Kenny Blyth joins Sam and Mark to talk about voicing technical scripts with vitality, the essence of true horror stories, and how to subvert expectations, and our wildcards include robotic AI voices, a magician and a rather superb horse racing commentator.

Our VO question this week is all about demo reels, and when you should get them done (or re-make them).

We’d love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today’s show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

In regulation 4, paragraph two, which covers ‘Requirements relating to building work’, paragraph two (a), after ‘schedule 1’ inserts: in brackets “in addition to the requirements of regulation 7”

In regulation five which covers ‘meaning of material change of use’ after paragraph I omit “or”; and after paragraph J insert ‘or the building is a building described in regulation 7 - 4 - a, where previously it was not”.

Script 2 (excerpt from "The Chair" by W. Terence Walsh)

As the fire begins to crack and pop and the smoke rises over the rooftops, John resumes his work with renewed vigour, the rhythmic scraping of the chisel helping to drown out the sound of the blaze.

But he cannot ignore the piercing dreadful song of the girl screaming as she is cleansed from this world. A sound so high in its pitch and so disquietingly inhuman, that it beggars belief. Perhaps she truly is an agent of the supernatural after all? The noises of the crowd turn from accusation, to celebration, to pity, to fear, before dwindling to silence.

Only the scream now, travelling through the late summer air and gently brushing up against the blade of the chisel, carving a microscopic record of Mary’s last moments into the tiny groove-like indentations in the wood.

Hello, I’m Professor Dan(ielle) Clever. I lead Energy, Air Pollution and Health Research at the University of Smartville.

Recently, I invented Pollution Vision glasses so that harmful pollution in the air can be

seen.

Together, we are presenting a series of short videos, as we go about our everyday lives,

explaining what pollution is, how it can affect our health, and what we can do to reduce the risks.

So, what is in the air we breathe?

Well, air is mainly composed of oxygen and nitrogen and water… But it also contains pollution, which is a mixture of solid particles and gases that come from vehicle emissions, factories, heating sources, smoke, dust, pollen, and mould for example.

Script 2

Once upon a time, around the turn of the new millennium...

Two Psychologists, Sally and Irene, were intrigued by this new-fangled “internet” thing, and wondered if they could take therapy online to reach more people.

They founded ‘Psychology Today’ and in 2001, launched a website.

In 2009 a Clinical Trial involving 300 patients proved that online therapy was actually more effective than face to face therapy. The results were published in The Lancet……and what happened next changed history!

Jane Hargreaves, Venture Capitalist and more recently leader of the UK Vaccine Taskforce during the COVID Pandemic, had heard about Psychology Online and could see it’s incredible potential to change the future of mental healthcare.

This session will run for about 45 minutes and there will be time at the end for questions and answers. Enter your comments in the chat area, and we'll address them at the end of the session. Our goal is to provide exactly what you need so you can confidently set up your portal.

Script 2

The Verks. As the sun begins to set over the planes of Petah Tikva, both male and female begin to make their way home from an arduous day’s labor.

The male’s true passion lies in video games, while the female enjoys collecting stickers. Despite their 9-to-5 grind, the two have managed to maintain their love of the arts and their sense of playfulness.

Both male and female have different interests and this can sometimes lead to conflict . While the male likes to spend his evenings gaming in his cave, the female desires nothing more than to spend them snuggled up together in their nest. In the end, the female, more often than not, wins. Her persuasive nature, sometimes referred to as ‘nagging’, convinces the male to concede.

Script 1

The powders were neatly enough made up, and when I opened one of the wrappers, I found the simple crystalline salt of a pure white colour. The phial, to which I next turned my attention, was filled with yellowish, translucent liquor, which was highly pungent to the sense of smell and contained phosphorus and other volatile ether. This journal, little more than an ordinary book, contains everything. It covers many years, and is filled with equations, formulas and notations of the foremost philosophers in history. Here and there a brief remark is appended to a date, usually no more than a single word: and once very early in the list and followed by several marks of exclamation, "total failure!!!”

Jonathan Tilley: The one with the Dastardly Tech Script!21 Apr 202300:33:22

In this week's "How Do You Say That?!" Jonathan Tilley, voiceover and personal brand strategist, joins Sam and Mark to talk about promoting your vo business properly, why tech script is sometimes the worst, and in the wildcards Sam channels Sweden and Jonathan becomes horrifying!

Our VO question this week is all about how important it is for voiceovers to be present and engaged on social media.

We’d love you to join in and send us your version of one of the reads in today’s show – just pop it onto an mp3 and send it to podcast@britishvoiceover.co.uk

Script 1

If it’s a mainly adult audience - or students over 18 - then you may want to be a little more suggestive with the script and jokes. There could be topical contemporary references for your audience - local characters, news headlines, politicians, celebrities and so on. Rude jokes are essential and, depending on your audience, you may choose to include risqué language (though innuendo, double entendres and the threat of a swear word are often more effective than the real thing). Of course - you need to be clear in your advertising that this isn’t for kids - for example “Sinderella” so that you don’t have complaints at the end of the evening!

Script 2

With the filter frequency, you suppress interference on counter inputs F, J and, if applicable, W. With compressed VPTs, a frequency of 129 kHz is cyclically reset by default - meaning that signal changes shorter than 4 µs are suppressed.

The VPT_Definitive_Exchanger Technology object guides you in the configuration, commissioning and diagnosis of the position reflection and measurement features for the RB position output technology module in conjunction with VPT definitive exchangers - not to mention, the SP2_RAM Technology object enables you to easily configure ram counter-control of the SP 8x73VFRQ/5J RP analog input module for operation with an exchanger module and use it as the master program.
